I've made 520.1 miles this year.

Great job! 520 miles, heck that is like 1/3rd of the way to Disney world from north Texas!

@amymoreorless Skip had a gait analysis done at the physical therapist. He specializes in treating/prevent injuries in runners.

@skippygirlsmom I can’t get into see the PT until 1/9 but I will definitely ask him/her about it. Thanks!

Passed my December goal of 110 miles. Yay! I've been down about my speed (or lack thereof lately). I averaged 10.32 pace on the Christmas day 5-miler that I did. That's pretty good for me; however, I was almost the last person to finish. I know we're not supposed to compare ourselves to others but it's hard not to when everyone else is so far ahead, finished and ready to go when I arrive completely out of breath. I'm hoping that if I can drop at least 20 pounds that will help. Christmas leftovers are gone and this is Day 3 of logging my food and staying around 1200 calories. They say the first three days are the hardest!

10:32 pace would normally put you in the top 2/3rds, EASY. But when the weather is bad, or it is Christmas morning, most people stay home and only the faster runners show up. The ones that are very serious. So do not worry. You are faster than it seems by that race! Way to go!

@Teresa502 A 10:30 pace is fantastic! I get the competitive thing. I struggle with it as well. My short stubby legs/body were not built for speed. If you can maintain 10:30 for 5 miles you are doing awesome. This chart should make you feel better. The average woman runs a 5k at an 11:15 pace. You are kicking average’s *kitten* running at a longer distance!

    12/2 3.50
    12/6 2.50
    12/9 2.05
    12/10 4.00
    12/16 4.35
    12/17 3.20
    12/29 3.10

    Total 22.7/40

I am planning to get a few more miles in tomorrow and Sunday and am aiming to hit 30. I would have made it if I hadn't struggled around Christmas. Ugh. Going to have to get better since I have a few runs on the books (and more I want to add!). It was warm out today, the mid-70s. This weekend I'll go out earlier to get used to the cold for the upcoming races. I've been struggling with wanting to go out when its cold.

This is a great chart! And remember that this is filtered by people who run these distances - the average non-runner woman can't run a marathon in 4:41, most people can't run one at all.

@juliet3455 wicked course review man, thank you! Sounds chill enough to me. Will have to think more on it...

Did a bitty bit of speed work on the dreadmill today because the kids were driving Ben crazy. Enjoying him being home for a hot minute for Christmas, not loving the decreased mileage :/

Looking like a rest day. Had some coughing in the middle of the night and it's really cold outside.

Another 6.5 miles down. Ran the same route as yesterday hoping to improve my time but my pace was much slower, probably cuz I decided to run in the grass.

    Total: 157.7

Today's notes: UGH. I was supposed to run for 2:15 this morning on trail. I ended up bailing after 1:47 and 6.9 slogging miles. The trail wasn't clear or even packed in most places, so it made for harder running, which turned into trudging a lot. The wind kind of sucked too..... ugh..... I know conditions were sub-optimal but I still feel kind of like a failure. Oh well, at least I got out there.

Hope everyone has a runderful day!

I run the edge of the trail in the grass occasionally. It's good to mix up the surfaces.

I just try to keep the images of a field of flowers, and dresses.... Them a meglomaniacal monster pops up AND RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Haha. I can scare myself out of the pool cuz I see a shadow. Love irrational fears.

Slow moving this morning in the snow and slush. Very light crowd at run group this morning. Nobody wanted to run 10 miles with me, so I settled for 8 because I just didn't feel like tacking on 2 on my own. Tomorrow should be a rest day but since I took the rest of the week so easy, I will likely run. Temps are supposed to dip below zero over night, so I am hoping it warms up a bit during the day.

Still in recovery mode. I'm starting to get cabin fever. This is a good sign. Yes?

I'd say it's a good sign, but a double edged sword. You'll feel ready to run before you actually are, so just be wary of that.

Haha. I don't like running in the grass cuz I swear I always find that hidden dip in a fluffy patch and twist my ankle. Also people don't pick up after their dogs and wet poop just sinks into every crack on the bottom of my shoes...so gross. Lol

Skip and I went out for 5, but her tummy started to talk to her at 3 so we headed towards the house. She got in the door just in time.

Doesn't look good for making goal this month, but that's okay. I'm good with that.

Yeah, I try to move off the sidewalk into grass and dirt also. I was told a very very long time ago by my HS track coach that running on varied surfaces like that helps to prevent shin splints. I also read somewhere that it was good for improving your balance because it strengthens your foot.

No idea if any of that is correct, I just do it for variety mostly. But I have never gotten shin splints so there is that!

Running on the grass also forces you to pick your feet up.
