@Teresa502 - Goal! WTG! That's a great pace for the 5 miler! I bet because it was Christmas day it was mostly hardcore runners that were there. If it was a normal Sat/Sun 5 mile run and there were a ton of people there, you wouldn't be at the very end. But even if you were, who cares. As they say ... you still beat everyone else on the couch!

    @penko47 - Goal! Awesome!

December goal: Keep kicking at Zumbro training
Nominal mileage goal: Let's say 120?? I really don't know. Going for like 70% trail

    12/1- 7.2
    12/2- 8.2
    12/3- 9.5
    12/4- 5.8
    12/5- REST
    12/6- 6.5
    12/7- REST
    12/8- 8.4ish
    12/9- 9.1
    12/10- 6.6
    12/11- REST
    12/12- 4.1
    12/13- 6.6
    12/14- 4.9
    12/15- SW-LJ Rest day
    12/16- 6- ugh, so slow
    12/17- 8.1
    12/18- REST
    12/19- 7
    12/20-6.7
    12/21- REST
    12/22-7.2
    12/23- 10
    12/24- 8.3
    12/25- REST
    12/26- 6.6
    12/27- 6.7
    12/28- 7.1

    Total: 150.8

Today's notes: Assignment was 5x800m intervals at 3:20 per interval. The roads were just a little slick, not icy, but compacted snow isn't exactly as nice as running on bare pavement. Anyway, enough with the excuse making. Splits on the intervals were:
    3:18
    3:19
    3:22
    3:21
    3:22

As you can see, I was slow my last 3 intervals. I'm pretty sure that with dry roads I could have gotten them in under time but that's just vanity and excuse making on my part.

Temp this morning was -20F (-28C)

    Have a runderful day all!

    2018 races
    3/28- END-SURE 50k
4/13- Zumbro Endurance Race 100 Mile
    5/19- Superior Trail 25k (Lottery)
    7/8- Afton 50k???
9/8- Superior Trail 50 mile (Lottery)
    10/xx Wild Duluth 50k? 100k?

On our last fartlek interval I totally face planted on the boardwalk in front of two ladies and a dog. The dog was very concerned about me. I have been thoroughly licked.

@rheddmobile I hope you are ok. But this sounds like something I would totally do!

:) Not used to cold weather here in Texas, have been running in the gym lately. People look at my sweat-soaked self like I'm crazy!
@cyber_running, there are a few of us here in Texas. Where ya at?? LOL. It has been cold and about to get colder. People across the street from the track where only 3 of us showed up last night were looking out their windows like we were crazy!

Just a quick catch up with everyone and I will post miles later...
@RespectTheKitty - Love the math and that it came out to Pi!
@Elise4270 - you can be proud of your miles for the year especially what with surgery and all that you have been through. It is still way more than most people do at all, ever....
@amymoreorless - Yay on being cleared to run again! Love that you actually wore running clothes to the appointment!
    @Stoshew71 - love the meme!
@rheddmobile - ouch! Hope your bruises heal quickly along with your pride! Having done it myself the dog's reaction while sweet is almost more embarrassing! I think that 20 ft you slid should count toward your overall distance covered
@penko47 - Great job hitting that goal!
@abutcher2122 - Nice pace improvement! No one cautioned you when you started that running is addictive?
@Teresa502 - 10:32 is a great pace and it will likely keep improving over time as you keep running... and you got out there and ran a race on Christmas morning - how many people do that? Awesome job!
@CiaraRebello - awesome running for 30 mins straight! You will be awesome in that 5K in May!!

I think I need to go 'enjoy the climb out of the river valley' during my long runs over the next 3 months...
@sarahthes I would suggest either Groat Rd or the Emily Murphy Park Rd Hill from Hawrelak Park, as they offer good parking at the bottom and a slope that is not monstrously steep. In fact the Running Room on 109 St commonly does their Hill Repeat Training on the Emily Murphy Park Hill.
If you can run/power walk it you are good to go for Jasper. Right now in the dark days of winter I would probably have to powerwalk the top 1/2 of it.

Heh, the Emily Murphy Park Rd Hill was actually what the 'enjoying the climb out of the river valley' quote was from - course description for the 10K I did in September. I survived it but need to get in some more hilly miles. Wish I lived closer to that part of the city as it's a bit of a trek to get to the 109St Running Room for package pickups.

Thanks for the encouragement @shanaber! Means a lot to me.

@cburke8909 I love ice skating and roller skating. They have an adult night (roller) I'd love to make. Just sure it'll be the worst thing for my hip right now. Glad you got to go and enjoyed it!!!!

As of today: 2095.39 miles for 2017
    December Goal: 236.22/200
Ok, I do have to admit that I have enjoyed most of the cold weather running days. I am really not to thrilled once the temperature drops below 25*F/-3*C (give or take). As long as I know the temperature is rising, I do pretty well, when it just sits......nope.

    32 miles.
    Bossymom15

    12/2 - 4.5 miles
12/6 - 1.3 mile - ran till it was too dark. Our roads aren't so great, don't want to fall on my face. Looking forward to Saturday. the weather should be perfect.
12/9 - the weather WAS perfect! I went out to run another 4 miles and ran 6.5. (It was downhill the last two miles, so after I got up that hill..... so 12.3Miles this week.
    12/14 1.5 miles
    12/16 4.5 miles.... 18.30 so far...

12/23 5 miles.... it was a little over 30 degrees, not much wind so a good run. But now...it's 10 degrees outside and dark when I get home, and highs in the 20's for the next week. I'd still rather run in 30 than 90 degrees though. The heat just kicks my butt.

    23.30 so far this month.
    12/28 - 1.25 miles. 24.5 miles

Don't see how to make my goal this month. Just not enough daylight to get it done. I bought some fleece tights and a 1/2 buff to try and keep running through the cold. Need to figure out a running in the dark plan, it would help in the summer here too when its 110 degrees. Gotta love the Midwest, we get the worst of both seasons. Tomorrow high is 19, only 9 degrees by Sunday. We'll see....

@garygse glad to hear the shin is feeling better and that you are getting some miles in.
    Super @penko47 @abutcher2122 @Teresa502
@rheddmobile hope the knee is okay sounds like ouch
@ClaraRebello congrats on straight 20 minutes! That’s great.
@cburke8909 I can’t remember the last time I ice skating, sounds like you had fun.
@elise4270 I agree with Shanaber, considering everything this year, you have run some awesome mileage. Your determination to run always amazes me.
@AlphaHowls I think for those who don’t normally get such cold weather it really makes it harder. Our temperature has just been bouncing around and that makes it nuts. Amazing mileage for 2017!

    Goal = 93 miles

Did my long run a day early, as we are having a brunch tomorrow. It was about 8 degrees F, but mostly not too windy so an improvement over the last couple of days. We ran on a kind of country highway that was not too trafficked, and the footing was mostly okay. Some areas felt like running through sand though, and especially the snow-covered hilly parts were a bit of a challenge. Glad to have it done - and to get home and take a warm bath.

Well over my December goal now. Will need to work on what my January goal will be.

    12/3 = 7 miles
    12/4 = 4.5 miles
    12/5 = yoga class
12/6 = 3.5 miles on the dreadmill and strength training
    12/7 = rest
    12/8 = 2.5 mile
    12/9 = rest
    12/10 = 26.7 BSC Marathon
    12/11 = rest
    12/12 = rest
    12/13 = 3 miles
    12/14 = vinyasa yoga class
    12/15 = 6 miles
    12/16 = rest
    12/17 = 10.5 miles
12/18 = 30 minutes upper body and core ST
    ......stupid old lady feet.......
12/28 = 6 miles (really slow miles- walking and jogging- slogging LOL)
12/29 = 8.5 miles followed by an ice massage thing they showed me how to do at the doctors and anti-inflammation meds.

My foot actually feels pretty good. I felt a pulling sensation the last mile so I think I will take a rest day tomorrow.

This is my second time developing peroneal tendonitis in two years. I was reading online that this is not a common injury in runners except for runners who under-pronate (run on the outside of the foot). Is there a gait test I can do for this at home? Anyone had a gait test done? and where?

December Goal = Run a freakin marathon and not die. Done! 5 hours: 0 minutes: 42 seconds

    Upcoming 2018 Races
    1/6 = River Road Run 1/2 marathon
    3/3 = Woodlands Marathon

@amymoreorless Skip had a gait analysis done at the physical therapist. He specializes in treating/prevent injuries in runners.

Happy birthday @MobyCarp ! So many December birthdays! You "celebrate" about much as I do. Tuna is my subway.

I hope you get your birthday wish, and are able to run those 2 miles soon, pain free.

ETA They say age only matters if you're wine or cheese. I use to believe that. But now that I'm encroaching upon 50, I think it's BS. Be old if you want. It's a badge of wisdom youth can't understand.

    A gray head is a crown of glory;
It is found in the way of righteousness. -- Proverbs 16:31

The glory of young men is their strength,
And the honor of old men is their gray hair. -- Proverbs 20:21

Somehow, when I'm feeling old a different quote comes to mind:

He [Elisha] went up from there to Bethel; and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him saying, "Go away, baldhead! Go away, baldhead!" -- 2 Kings 2:23

Maybe if Elisha had had gray hair he could have got some respect.

Passed my December goal of 110 miles. Yay! I've been down about my speed (or lack thereof lately). I averaged 10.32 pace on the Christmas day 5-miler that I did. That's pretty good for me; however, I was almost the last person to finish. I know we're not supposed to compare ourselves to others but it's hard not to when everyone else is so far ahead, finished and ready to go when I arrive completely out of breath. I'm hoping that if I can drop at least 20 pounds that will help. Christmas leftovers are gone and this is Day 3 of logging my food and staying around 1200 calories. They say the first three days are the hardest!

10:32 pace would normally put you in the top 2/3rds, EASY. But when the weather is bad, or it is Christmas morning, most people stay home and only the faster runners show up. The ones that are very serious. So do not worry. You are faster than it seems by that race! Way to go!
