Saturday -- Rain, cool, and windy. Too much like winter. Not enough like summer.

So ... we went to the gym.

    45 minutes of running
11 minutes of walking on either side of the running

That was 45 minutes of running straight through with no breaks. :) One of the rare times I've done that since I was a teenager. Felt good!

My husband has suggested now that I look for a 5K run to do, and we're discussing me running outside at lunch. It would be a good way to burn a few extra calories.

I will do my Christmas cards in the next week and get them posted. Love seeing all the decorations but so glad I don't have to do it. Talking about letters, there is one letter I look forward to receiving, it is from a friend I made at University, she is considerably younger than me as I was in my 40s when I was at Uni. She writes a long chatty letter relating her adventures through the year and I love reading it. So although I haven't seen her since graduation in 1992 I feel close to her.

Advantage of being in Spain for hols is that we can enjoy English Christmas and Spanish (Jan 6) and 2 New Years (due to time difference)

Need to exercise now , will do Leslie Sansone and some KB

Love and hugs for all with problems <3<3<3

My lovely DDIL, who did the TED talk in Cyprus, has just started, with a couple of other people, a blog/Instagram/Facebook thing about how not to get stressed at Christmas, especially as a mum. Lovely. I'm going to donate more food to the food bank and do some random acts of kindness when I can. :D I feel better already

:) This is one of the reasons I am part of the line dance performance group that dances at the assisted living places and convalescent hospitals during the Christmas season. It is a giving act not unlike random acts of kindness---giving with no expectations.

Becca - Owain looks so grown up in that photo! Handsome guy in a uniform B) . Hope he gets his ankle problem solved - some of mom's TLC will help, I'm sure. Glad the vertigo has subsided and I hope those constant bathroom trips have settled down. I am excited for you and your DH being with all your sons over the holidays. <3

    Kim
    - enjoy the time with your mom! Hope her cardiologist visit goes well. All those cookies - so nice to have help and what a nice gesture to friends and neighbors.

Rye - I truly enjoyed your Christmas story. I fondly recall picking gifts from under the tree, and the thrill of finding the right gifts and watching the joy as the people I loved opened them when we still had family close by.

Barbie - I so much appreciate your thoughts on Christmas. You are right, for some folks it's just the habit and inertia that keeps it going and there really isn't much special about it anymore. So I've decided to email the Christmas/Holiday greeting this year to relatives. I can add photos, the Bucket List, etc. If I can't find an E-Card, I'll make one myself.

    Kate
    - We have friends who were our "sheep" neighbors when we lived near Seattle. We did a lot of things together - Ingrid and I went to many sheep shows and swapped animals. I always love getting her Christmas letter and seeing the photos of her kids and grandkids... all of them are quickly growing up. When do you leave for Spain?

    Michele
    - your idea of sending Christmas cards to people you receive cards from is pretty much the way I do it. We have 2 new neighbors on our little road and want to send them a card as well - we don't know their names but will keep checking the county records to see when the deeds are recorded and I'll get it from there. Older folks who don't send cards or can't afford it get them as well, because cards do mean a lot to them. Good job on the pierogi and sorry they all turned out so well, lol. Glad you did a test sample!!

Allie - I am so excited for you with the possibility of going to a new job! Crossing fingers!!

    Machka
    - my DH ate the Christmas tree is referring to the joke photo I posted a few days ago of a wrapped Little Debbie cake in the shape of a Christmas tree with green frosting. :D

    Heather
    - I am so impressed that your DH helps out so much with the food preparation and entertaining your visitors. Sure helps to have someone carry some of the load during this busy month.

    Have a good weekend!

Happy because I'm finished my decorating ... and still feeling some of the endorphins from my run earlier. That's probably why I was able to finish the decorating. I had energy! :)

Sad because of all the rain we're getting, and it is just pouring again now. It's heartbreaking. This is the last thing we need right now in the orchard. My poor husband was out there this morning trying to blow dry the cherries and said there had already been a loss. The loss is probably double now. He'll be back out there again tomorrow morning (in about 6 hours). The only thing that might help is the fact that the wind is supposed to start up sometime tonight and I think the rain is supposed to ease off in a couple hours.

We're absolutely glued to about half a dozen weather sites these days.

But as bad as it is here, Victoria (State on the mainland just north of us) is much worse. They've been really hard hit by the rain. We lived around the middle of Victoria for a number of years when I first came to Australia and our hearts are still there.

(((Felicia))) My heart goes out to you and your family. My mom passed away the day before Christmas last year. She spent her last week in the small community hospital with a terrible case of pneumonia. The nurses there could have cared less. They did not check on her and they were not turning her or administering the morphine drip that the doctor had ordered to keep her comfortable. My sister (an RN) said she could hear her moaning as soon as she opened the entry door to the hospital. She raised #$%^ with them and told them to do their job. I can understand why you are so angry and hope you will find some comfort.

I am just not in the Christmas spirit. There is so much commercialism around all the holidays now that by the time the event actually happens, I want nothing to do with it. If it weren't for my grandchildren, I would probably not participate at all and enjoy a quiet day.

But, I do love looking at all the decorations everyone is posting! What lovely trees and ornaments.

Went to lunch with friends I had not seen in a long time. Evening went to volunteer pot luck for volunteers at the Nature center nearby. Did have a bit of trouble sleeping from enjoying too many goodies.

We will have two more days in low fifties then to the ice chest we go. I found some chalk to seal up some of our old windows at Aldiis. I already notice a difference at our kitchen window (one of the worst). It is thirty and I do not feel as much draft.

I too enjoy the holiday decorations. Overall I enjoy the holidays. The one tradition of my mom's I refuse to do is baking the eight kinds of Christmas cookies. I make one kind of cherry bar and give most of that away as gifts and if I get ambitious enough I will make home made caramel again to give as gifts.

Also, looking at the power of "micro-actions" to stay with my goals, a micro-action would be packing gym clothes to bring with me to make sure I go to the gym, next action is changing into the clothes immediately after work so I drive to the gym, believe it or not, this works for me. As a teacher, I'm always looking for ways to break down complex ideas and skills into more understandable bits, so this is right up my alley, identifying the smallest action I can take that moves me in a positive "added value" direction!

:)Karen, this is a great way to think. I'm going to add it to my life tool kit of useful hints.

Hi ladies. I got back late Wednesday night and stayed home Thursday to get things done around the house, plus I had a counseling appointment. This was much easier than I had anticipated. Honestly, when I left him there, I felt great relief. I feel like we are doing something positive to resolve this situation. So now I am counting down days! I have paper to make a daisy chain for my office (I’m here now trying to catch up). I’m sleeping well and have a lot of energy. Those last several months took a huge toll on me and I didn’t really realize it. So I think things will start looking up although I know I will have harder days to come.

Rori: I am sorry for your loss! Sending you hugs. PS the Denver traffic is awful…how do you stand it?

Barbie: thank you for keeping this lively group going!

Heather: some stores here had Christmas decorations up before Halloween. It’s crazy. We usually do the outside stuff the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but I don’t think I’m really going to decorate this year. I’ll do a few outdoor things, but not all the inside stuff. I usually have a tree in every room and tons of decorations. I’m taking a rest from it this year.

Rye: I just want to steal your kitty cat! Gorgeous!

Felicia: I see that you lost your mother? I am so sorry. There is nothing else like losing your mom. I’m sending you hugs and peaceful thoughts.

Becca: your son is old enough to be in the Navy??? My gosh he looks young! My dad was an original nuclear submariner in the first “program” started by Adm. Rickover.

DJ: thanks for the good wishes. He gets 300 minutes phone time a month and I set up a local phone number in Denver to avoid the long distance charges they incur. He may also get email at some point; most of the inmates do. And of course there is the mail. I sent him a card the next day!

Katla: thank you too for the good wishes. I’d love to see a picture of the puppets!

I enjoy seeing all the Christmas decorations. I am so conflicted about the holiday. I want so badly to really enjoy it, but my mom always used gifts as weapons and I’m often depressed this time of year. So far so good, but we will see. I think giving myself a break from all the expectations will be good for me.

OK must get more work done, otherwise there is no point to being here on Saturday! Going to friends’ for dinner tonight. Take care all, meg from Sunny Omaha….oh, the building here is partly flooded. The main water line to the coffee pots busted!

Hi Sisters, my day did not go quite as planned yesterday but it was a great day. I delivered the two horses to fresh paddocks and then decided, since it was such a fine day and the float was already hooked up and loaded with gear, that I would take my main man down to the beach for a gallop. So glad I did. It was just wonderful with the breeze and the sunshine and my best mate enjoying a chance to stretch his legs. I had thought that I would go do my bee work when I returned from the beach ride, but when I pulled up I discovered a large hay truck backed up to my barn. YAYE! Just what I needed. So I ended up helping unload and stack hay and it was too late to get to the bees, so I will do that today instead.

I also managed to fast yesterday and I did my kettlebell workout in the morning. I weighed 136 lbs yesterday for my morning weigh in and today I weighed in at 131.6. A HUGE drop, and probably mostly water, but hey, I am not fussy. I will take it. That is even after having a beer with the guys after unloading the hay, and then I had a coconut, turmeric, cinnamon and cocoa Lassi as a reward for sticking to my fast all day. My goal is to never be out of the 120's and my goal weight is 125lbs so I still have a ways to go yet, but at least my pants will zip up now.

Machka, I think you are right about my body retaining water after the half-marathon, because I was actually a bit dehydrated during that run. I was a bit anxious about not wanting to run with a partly full bladder so I cut back on the liquid and I only had two or three swallows of liquid at the water stations along the way.

Karen, thanks for the link to Lisa's blog. I have added that to my favourites list to enjoy a daily read. Lovely pics of you and the cute little dog, and you and Cheri. I have decided that after I finish fasting (I will fast as long as I can hold out!) I will do keto for the rest of the summer. Last year I did keto for a while and got really lean but I also got bruises all over my body so I will monitor this time and make sure I get the right nutrients to prevent bruises.

Michelle, thanks for the "sour" advice, LOL. I know intuitively that your advice is correct, and if I can take some lemon water instead of sugar, I will re-set whatever in my body is demanding sugar. I will be trying this!

NYKaren, thanks for the great idea about micro-actions. I am going to pack my gym bag and put it in my van today as I need to get back into my routine of hitting the gym when I am in town. No excuses! Also I need to start freezing half full water bottles so I can have ice water during the summer. Anybody else have any good micro-action tips we can take to help us achieve our goals?

Katla, I want to see the puppets too. How was your ride with your friend?

Allie, adopting a little dog and giving it a wonderful life is the best Christmas gift I can think of!

Felicia and Rori, keeping you in my prayers, as well as Becca's Nuke sun, Terry, Joyce and Lenore. I miss you Lenore. Come back to us.

Lanette- loved the Bucket List you posted. Christmas means different things to different people. Loving hearing everyone's traditions, photos and thoughts.

    <3 to you all, Wendy

Meg - Sending my good wishes. Your husband is a very lucky man. I'm sure he realises that. Such a great thing that you are all having counselling etc. A not dissimilar family crisis in DH's family has not had a good resolution so far. Very sad for all concerned. :'(

Bread sauce - done! Crumble - prepared! Stuffing - prepared! Potatoes - parboiled! Pigs in blankets - prepared! Chicken - defrosting! Just a few root veggies to cut up in the morning. :D

The game stew was heavenly. :D

Going to watch the French thriller series "Witnesses" tonight. I just love hearing French spoken. Of course, it has subtitles. The series we really love is "Inspector Montalbano" which used to be on Saturday evenings. I learnt all my Italian from that. :oB) Avanti!

Looking forward to seeing my stepdaughter tomorrow.

I haven't joined a discussion before. I would be happy to lose 3lbs by the end of December. Thinking of joining gym but bit restricted due to several health problems. Does anyone think it would be worth it even if I can only learn to use a treadmill for now. I have to keep my face warm due to a nerve problem so find it hard to walk when the weather is cold.

Happy December all! Thank you Barbie for bringing us into December and showing us how to be strong and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Let's see...December goals will be a challenge for me. Let's see if I can put together a list I can follow.

    Follow my meal plan.
    Keep water intake up.
    RICE in the evenings.
baby steps into exercise when the doc gives the okay
enjoy the holiday season with senses other than my mouth.
leave room in meal plan for a small treat so that I don't feel denied.

Janet- I love cardinals! I decorate with them during the holidays. They were my mother's favorite bird. After she and my dad passed, DH, kids and I moved to Grand Haven and didn't ever see cardinals around. Then about five years later, I was feeling especially blue, early one December, and I looked outside and there were dozens of cardinals in the trees and bushes outside of our house. Your jeweled tree is gorgeous!

Wendy- Your running pictures make me want to raise my arms and yell "TOWANDA!" You look so strong and happy!
I have never heard of these books by Dr. Estes. Which one do you think I should start with?

Machka- LOVE your new profile pic! That red dress looks fantastic on you!

Rori- Thinking of you as you mourn the loss of a good friend. Grieving is how we handle our love for some one. Tears are love that we are unable to put into words. I feel that being able to allow ourselves to grieve/cry openly; allows others to feel free to do the same. Good-byes are hard. Think of it as a "see you on the other side". sending love <3

Kids arriving. I better scoot. love and hugs to all who need them. ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)

Could you explain what "RICE" is please?
