Yesterday,a neighbor stopped in to see our new heat/AC regulator.Anyway,he mentioned DH said I had some type of
On line infection. He looked & said it almost surely came from FB.He works as a specialist with such stuff.
DD talked me into signing up for FB,but never thought to use it.Was just “there” in list of apps.
Run Malwarebytes on your phone and computer. That should take care of any "viruses".
Also don't click on clickbait, ads, links in emails, etc.

Thank you. I appreciate your help. Also discarding .......seldom used sites.
“Saving” files etc has been cut way back.Just trying to keep junk away.
Have stopped clicking on strange sites altogether.
Will see how it goes.

Pat - make sure you aren't in "administrator" mode, only "user". That way, executable files won't automatically be downloaded. My DH is administrator on all the PC's, and I am set up as user -- I'm the one who uses them 99% of the time. We've caught unwanted programs trying to be downloaded because I'm prompted for the admin password.
Still, nasty Trojans and Ransomware try to sneak through.
I have clicked on a few links on FB which did launched bogus warnings from Microsoft that my computer had been compromised, call a certain 800 number, etc. I immediately open Task Manager and delete the process from there.
And, I don't surf the web much anymore.
Good luck!

I’ve chosen my word for 2018: Purpose
I shared my 2018 mind map with y’all a couple of weeks ago. Well, today I did the vision board. These are in the front of my bullet journal/calendar so that I can refer to them often. I’m seriously working on this. I pray that I can stay focused. I’ve ordered the purpose driven life to read. I’m going to participate in a book study with it.

I wanted to tell you all some of our traditions. We leave all decorations up until the 6th of January. After reading Penny’s post I think I know where the tradition came from. My maternal grandfather was German so that may be where it started. On New Years Day we have black-eyed peas, cabbage and corn bread. (I grew up in the south, can you tell)
Welcome to the newbies. I loved Doc Martin and wish there were more episodes.
We are joining the Y in January so I have been going over the list of classes. I think I will do yoga and water aerobics. Golf will start again as soon as it is warmer.
Rita and Viv good to see you posting.

I do tend to start my runs fast, and I wonder why I'm gasping for air and why this run feels so difficult, then I have to tell myself to slow down a bit. I won't be the fastest person across the line ... I'm just hoping I'm not last.
Machka in Oz
The goal is to finish the first time. The second race your goal is to beat your time/pace. I only race against myself, never the crowd. But I understand the desire to not be the last one across the finish line. lol Usually that's not a problem. In the marathon I did a run/walk and that really helps me keep the energy levels up. Run 5 minutes, walk 1 (or 2 depending upon my mood). The walk is a fast walk but it helps keep the heart rate within boundaries that I've set.
You're going to do fine. And yes, the Hoka's are like running on pillows compared to others I've had. My knees don't hurt at all when I run in them.

Thanks!! Yes ... first, I do want to finish within the time limit. For the 10K, that's 2 hours so it shouldn't be a problem. I've done 10K walks in 2 hours ... but this is a bit different with so many other people there, and I would like to run as much of it as I can.
My husband has been a bit concerned. I think this running thing has taken him by surprise! He keeps suggesting I do the 5K and work on doing it really fast, but that doesn't interest me. I know I can run 5K, I've done it a few times now, and have done 6K and 7K ... so I'd rather do the 10K even if I have to walk parts of it. For me, the 10K is a bit more of a challenge.

About the Twelve Days of Christmas: Scandinavian tradition stipulates that Christmas Day is the first day of Christmas. This numbering is completely incorporated into the languages. In Norwegian, they even go so far as to call Christmas Day "first Christmas day". Both Swedes and Norwegians call Boxing Day "the second day of Christmas" and Epiphany is "the thirteenth day of Christmas". Twelfth night (as in Shakespeare's play) is the eve of Epiphany, which is a public holiday in Sweden (but not Norway). That means the 5th is a big day for parties. All Swedish schools and many offices are closed from Dec 23 to Jan 6. Life doesn't get back on track until January 7th.
Since you're supposed to celebrate throughout "Christmas", most people don't take their decorations down until after January 6th (but on the other hand, most don't put them up until well into December, many as late as Christmas Eve). But in Sweden, everyone agrees that you simply MUST pack up the decorations by January 20th, when Knut (Canute) has his name-day. There's even a rhyme for it: Tjugondag Knut, då dansas julen ut! (Twentieth day Canute, then we dance Christmas out!)
Tomorrow I'll be putting away the Christmas candle
but the window star and the glass vase with the string of white lights will stay UP and ON until daylight comes back in late February. Up here in the winter dark of the Arctic, we NEED those extra points of light.

That's interesting! My father's father's (my grandfather) side of the family is from an Eastern Orthodox part of the world, while my mother spent quite a few years growing up in a Norwegian community (in Canada), and even though she is not Norwegian, she and her parents adopted some of the traditions. If I'm not mistaken, opening presents on Christmas Eve is a Norwegian tradition.
So both sides of my family have adopted the tradition of continuing to celebrate Christmas into January.

Wendy, thanks for the Jack LaLanne post. Watched his TV program when a kid and remember he urged all to get active and substitute fruit for sugar. Believe he was nearly vegan, only eating some egg whites with his fruits and veggies. He closed every show singing "May the good Lord bless and keep you..." A warm memory.
My German/Austrian Mama's New Year's traditional food was pickled herring for good luck. Sounds Scandinavian doesn't it?. I would never eat it. Bony fish, sour cream, onions... YUCK!
Joe took the dogs and me to Arch Rock Viewpoint. The views were marvelous... until I spotted pretty red berries... on brown sticks... near shiny green-turning-red leaves of three... LEAVE IT I shrieked at the dogs. Wiped them down with a dry towel in hopes the oil won't transfer to us. The poison oak and the stunningly stinky toilets mean we won't be back. The inside of my mouth itched all the way home.

Hi all...
My dad died Wednesday morning, and I've been in Houston since the 15th. I'll get back to normal habits eventually.
Hope you are all well and staying warm.

My husband is Scandinavian. Our last name is very Norwegian. We opened family gifts on Christmas Eve until the kids grew up and moved out. Now we wait until we can be together. Sometimes it is still Christmas Eve, but this year it was Christmas Day.

Oye, ladies!
Home now, after waking up at 3am, leaving at 4 am from middle son and DILs apartment to head to PDX. Youngest nuke son had a 6:30am flight tko Atlanta, then on to Charleston. It was nice having him home from 16th to 26th, then stayed at middle son's from 26th to today. They have two dogs, that jumped all over, on the couch, on you, licking your ears, up your nose! Husband, younger son and I have never grown up with dogs so it was quite an experience! They also do not have cable, or a radio. Husband and I are used to being informed with local news, local paper and the like. We both adapted and adjusted. Love our son and DIL, but she is not a cook, nor a helper. I was making scrambled eggs and using some ham I found, served on paper plates.... * long sigh*.
Miss my eldest son, can't call him or write him. Until he writes first with his on base Addy.
Christmas stuff down, looking at my minimalist looking home and breathing long and deep!
Love you guys, hoping nothing but the best for each and every one of you! Type to you next year!

Karen, I like “missing link”. I’ll have to consider that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Heather, I’m sure it puts your mind to rest having heard from your friend. I hope she gives you her friends number.
Welcome newbies. Hope you continue to join us.
Wendy, I’m sure your new business adventure will work out great. You are such a hard worker.
Spent the whole morning cleaning my side of the basement. It was a lot of work and I probably didn’t do my wrist any good but I’m so glad I did. I now have all my craft items organized so I know where everything is and can get to it. It has been driving me crazy every time I was looking for something.
I’m giving myself one more day then I’m getting back on track with my eating. I’ve put back on about 5lbs and that is not the direction I want to go.
One more day and it’s a new year. I wonder what 2018 will bring. Well time to read. Whoever was talking about putting the coin on the window sill for financial prosperity I’d love to hear more. We could use a little of that next year.
Well time to get my book.

Machka, so with you and Heather about the 12 days of Christmas. If I had a tree I'd keep it up til Epiphany Jan 6 at least. My god-daughter-of-the-heart is moving her family away from the pagan additions to Christmas and toward simpler more biblical/old testament living. I don't grasp all the details but it sounds somewhat like Messianic Judaism. Chanukah, no tree or Yule celebration or even St. Nick. She did send a card that had the star and talked about the Light of the World so... will try to time mailing the fudge and cookies for the kids to arrive on Epiphany. It won't be gold, frankincense and myrrh but I'm hoping she can accept.
Terry -15? ditto your hope it warms up at least a little for your NYE tradition
Okie 60 lbs? Well done!

Rita and Viv: Great to see you again!
Sharon: I agree with the others who want only the best for you...and given what you've learned, it's not staying married to DH. (((Hugs))) and ***STRENGTH***
KJ and DFW Gals: Have a fun get-together. Wish I could be there
Barbie: Love your list of commandments. Got me thinking
Love hearing all the NYE customs. Having lived in Hawaii for over 20 years, the island traditions are the ones I miss most. You make or buy a table decoration made of bamboo, pine branches and tangerines, symbols for longevity and prosperity. You absolutely must eat a few bites of ahi (yellow fin tuna) sashimi for good luck, then go outside and spend hours in the street shooting off firecrackers and fireworks with neighbors. It sounds like the marines have landed. The next morning you see the red paper in the gutters and smell gunpowder in the air. This practice is totally illegal, dangerous and hazardous to those with asthma and respiratory challenges. Much as the authorities have tried to restrain the neighborhood fireworks, it continues to this day.
I grew up in Southern California where thanks to the time difference we could watch the ball drop on the east coast, then keep partying. I had a couple years where friends and I slept in Pasadena in order to have good spots for the Rose Parade. NYD is all about the Tournament of Rose Parade!!!! I still get excited watching it on TV.
I've also lived in New York and done the Times Square thing in person...insane!! Since moving to Colorado, I've mellowed and adopted a much more serene routine. DH and I will have a good steak, salad, wine (for him), kombucha (for me) and assorted desserts leftover from Christmas. Early to bed and early AM exercises in the condo gym. I hate the beginning of the New Year because it's the only time of the year I have to share the quiet and privacy of the gym with all the well-intentioned new converts. About 2 weeks into January, I'll probably be back to exercising by myself.
Today I took down the holiday decorations and got all stored in the garage. Tomorrow will give the house a good cleaning and might even tackle some filing in my home office. Yesterday, I got my DH some new trousers and shirts for our cruise. I am beyond excited for this new experience.
As I reflect on the highlights of 2017 for me, the support, wisdom, humor, comfort, stories and photos from all you incredible women is right up near the top of the list. Thank you for always being here. You inspire me with your courage, creativity, generosity and loving ways. Here's to an absolutely fabulous 2018 to all of you.
Stay well friends. We CAN DO THIS.

This is good ...
"Are you someone who makes the same New Year’s resolution over and over again? It's time to stop that madness. Read on to discover six types of resolutions that are destined for failure. Learn what they are so that you can make smarter resolutions, ones you can actually keep. It’s going to be a great year!" ...
https://www.verywell.com/new-years-resolutions-destined-to-fail-4120755
Personally, I don't do resolutions. I set goals, and I use the SMART criteria ...
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Timely
Now it doesn't always work. I don't reach every goal. I do like to put in one or two which might be a bit of a stretch. But I also include many which I know should be attainable.
These were my goals for 2017 (that's my blog here on MFP):
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Machka9/view/goals-for-2017-907626
Top of the list: Cycle more than 2016.
It is specific in the sense that I know how much I cycled in 2016, so I had a number to beat.
It is measureable for the same reason.
It is attainable. If I cycled a certain amount in 2016, I should be able to cycle more than that, even if it is just 1 km.
It is relevant ... I love cycling!
And it is timely because not only do I love cycling, but I also want to stay in shape as I get older.
BTW - I did attain that one.
I'll have a look through my 2017 goals later today and see how I did. Right now, I'm off for another bicycle ride.

Kelly re: Cilantro, I'd as soon eat Irish Spring but my relationship was with a cement smoother not a wooden spoon. Tell us about your pretzels? Joaquin and Chappie are soo lucky in you!

DrKatiebug "Old Christmas"=Epiphany? What tradition was your Grandma's? Alas, I'm with Machka and Evvie about organizing my office/craft space. Too many boxes to go through. Too much stuff. Too overwhelming.

Popping on quick before I head to bed. You ladies were busy today! I love it!
Barbie: Love your happiness commandments! Thank you for sharing. I copied them (hope you don't mind) and I'm going to tweak them for my life.
Penny: I LOVE those pictures you posted! I wondered what the lights were half way up the mountain...how exciting to learn it's Santa's house!
DrKatieBug: I just ordered a bullet journal and have been looking at them on Pinterest. I plan to start working on mine tomorrow. Thank you so much for sharing what you have. I found it really interesting. I love to journal. I like to write. So, I think this will be a good thing for me to do to keep track of everything. I'm a "list" person. I'll be interested in hearing how you use it and how you like it. I don't have a clue where to even start!!!
Yvonne: I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. HUGS to you and yours.
I was wondering....does Mary from Minnesota still post on here? Last I heard, she was moving to Arizona I think? Just wondered how she is doing.
I can't remember who mentioned my husband and I getting married on New Year's Eve for the tax break, but I laughed because I do think that is one of the reasons my husband pushed me into that date! LOL! It's not the whole reason, but knowing him it had something to do with it.
