Welcome KarenW, Viv and Donna and any other lurkers who are quietly a part of this online community.
It is the last day of 2017 here. I am excited about this new year coming. I do love a fresh start and a chance to choose different delights out of life's grab bag. Things are changing so much for us with today being our last day of owning a business that we have been involved in for the past 28 years. It is a risk to give up security and step into the unknown but it is also a chance at being part of something BIG. We are just waiting right now for approval on our new factory and export business for Manuka Honey. My favourite part of all this is the chance to learn new things and the synergy of working together to create something new. Another new thing I am doing this year is I have joined the Tramping Club and I plan to go on group hikes and camping trips this coming year with the view towards saving up for a ticket to walk the Camino Santiago in Spain.
Sharon, one more thing I want to say to you. I gathered you feel "ashamed" of yourself for invading Larry's privacy and reading his texts. That reveals to me that you have got too much of a conscience that takes the blame for everything. How I see it is 1. When you are married, you have a right to see each other's phones, know each others passwords. There should be no secrets! 2. God will reveal things that you need to know. He has revealed information on Larry's phone to you. Now you can make decisions based upon that new knowledge. My prayers are with you for strength and wisdom. Wendy8 -
Karen - just jump right in, the water's fine! Losing 15 pounds is nothing to sneeze at. You kept it off, that's a good thing
Viv - welcome back, you were missed
Rita - thanks for popping in. Love hearing from you
Barbara - check out this link: https://www.amazon.com/Bosu-3-D-System-Balance-Trainer/dp/B00IL2TR80/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1514656028&sr=8-2&keywords=bosu+bar The bosu goes in the middle
Well, made my apple pie. Now we'll see how it turns out. I increased the sugar in the pie, but I also increased the corn starch so we shall see how it turns out. Good, I hope.

Heather: I am glad you're happy with Amazon. We are not. They've decided to take over their own delivery services and haven't brought a package to our door since. We've found them at several different neighbor's houses and have contacted Amazon three times about the matter. We are getting very frustrated with them. :grumble:  :grumble: On a more personal note, I'm glad you heard from your cancer friend. :flowerforyou:
Peach: I have never really understood the weight watcher system. I know I can eat all the celery I want because it takes more calories to digest than it contains. Other than that, I need to check the food so I can have the right balance of calories in, calories out.
Wendy: Thanks for the link to Live Young Forever. I have fond memories of my mom exercising with Jack LaLanne's TV show in the 1950's. :flowerforyou:
Sharon in Lethbridge: I agree with you about kale & raw cabbage. While I occasionally have a bit of coleslaw in the summer time, it doesn't ever sit well with me. DH likes kale, but I don't. I do like brussels sprouts and broccoli, but they are it for me in the whole cabbage family. Everyone is different.
On a more serious topic, I have no advice regarding your relationship with DH. I hope you will find somebody to help you through this tough patch.
Patceoh: I've been spending almost no time on facebook lately. It has devolved into quite a mess as near as I can tell. It was a good asset fro a long time, but not so much anymore. :grumble:
Lin: Thanks for the advice regarding our dog. He is still doing okay and has actually improved dramatically. The injury was a ruptured disc. We've been doing well at helping him with meds and don't have surgery in mind. He is going up and down stairs, and moving with confidence. We take him up & down the stairs on a leash so he doesn't go too fast, and we're still using a baby gate to keep him downstairs during the day.
Barbie: I look forward to your happiness commandments.
Heathe: I am the one at our house who is inclined to have the TV on for hours at a time, & it would drive DH nuts to put up with it. We have headphones that I wear while watching things he doesn't particularly like. It is a win-win situation. I am glad to know that your cancer friend called you. That must relieve a lot of worry. Yay!
Michele: I also have an apple corer/slicer. It is a very handy tool! :flowerforyou:
Donna & Karen UK: Welcome! Karen, we already have other Karens, so I'll include your location to keep myself from getting mixed up.
Margaret: I love this, and agree. "For me my goal is when I encounter someone who is being negative is to not let them throw me off balance. I have made this comment before. Some people gain a false sense of power when they know they get you upset. As I say to students do not let them have your power. The interesting thing about people like this either they will go away on their own because they know they cannot get to you or they want you in their lives because they do find it refreshing to find someone who can stand up to them. I call it a false sense because they are not gaining power from their own inner work, but by manipulating others."
Viv in York UK: It is great to see you post again. Welcome back!!!
Our dog is doing better. He had a sipped disc and also has acid reflux/diahrea from some of the meds. He's being tapered off of the slipped disc medicine, but I think he'll have to have the acid reflux meds long term. He's a good old dog, and we want him to be comfortable and happy as long as possible.

I'm about to watch "Goodbye Mr Chips" on tv. It's a made for tv British remake of the original, starring Martin Clunes(Doc Martin). I love old films and my list of favourite actors is endless. My friends used to laugh in the old days when I was late joining them at the disco because I was watching a Tony Curtis/Rock Hudson /Gregory Peck film on TV!! Happy days!!4

Has anyone heard from Mary or Re/Bre?1

Sharon, if Larry had nothing to hide, he wouldn't be upset about you looking at his cell phone. And you have nothing to feel ashamed about, he's the one who appears to be cheating so he's the one who should be ashamed! You are not going to be able to change him, he would have to want to change and that doesn't seem likely to happen. I'm sure it's a scary thing, thinking of divorce and living alone, but you need to be the most important person in your life right now. Take the steps you need to in order to take care of YOU! And even though none of us is physically there for you, you know we are all with you in spirit!
Katla, happy to hear that your dog is getting better!
Heather, happy that you heard from your friend, hope that you can get a number of someone who is in her life that you could call.
Allie, your brother is not being fair at all! Is his head up his @$$, does he not see how much you are doing for your dad? Good grief! I wish I were there to give you a big hug, this will have to do! {{{HUG}}}
As for t.v., radio and other noisemakers in the house... Hubby is the one who gets up in the morning and turns on the t.v., I prefer to read the paper in the morning and it's easier to do without the noise of the t.v. or whatever, but after 36 years of this, I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me. It helps that I'm usually up for a few hours before he gets up, so I can read the paper and putter in quiet. I'm usually at the gym when he gets up and by the time that I get home, I'm ready for some noise in my day! He also turns it on when he gets up and it stays on til he goes to bed, unless we go out somewhere. No point in leaving it on for the cat, she's deaf! lol She's an old thing who probably won't be with us much longer, I will miss her. Mind you, I didn't think she would survive last winter, so maybe I shouldn't bury her just yet.....
Christmas is still up at our place, will probably take it down NY day. I was going to leave it up for another week, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stand it for that much longer! I do like it, but I kind of want my regular house back.
I do want to know more about the tradition that someone's step mom had about placing a coin outside on the windowsill. Does the denomination count? How long does one leave the coin there? Should it be on a particular windowsill? Or one facing a certain direction?
The pork thing sounds interesting, my mom would make a ham for NY day, but I don't recall anything being said about pigs moving forward while foraging. Mom would make ethnic (Russian) food quite often for NY day as well. I did like that! I don't make too much of it, hubby doesn't like most of it and I have found that I'm not quite as fond of it as I used to be. And a lot of it is kind of high in calories and fat, and I really don't need extra calories or fat! I do, however, make borsch on a regular (sort of! lol) basis, and hubby does like that. It contains butter and whipping cream, but the rest is all veggies, so it's really a fairly healthy soup. Wouldn't work for the cabbage haters out there, but I'm not one of those. Not a fan of kale tho, or a lot of salad stuff that seems to be in the salad mixes that one finds in the stores. Don't like bitter tasting food, and there always seems to be something in there like that.
Well, that's a long enough post for now! I know I've missed commenting on lots of peoples activities, the letter to Santa about the pets was adorable, loved that Joaquin gave a big sloppy kiss to his gramma, so many happy moments! And as I'm typing this, more people are posting! I'll never get caught up! lol Hope everyone has a great day!

Margaret - I truly appreciated your reflective post this morning - Rumi is one of my favorite authors. Thank you for posting it!
Karen in S Wales - I Love Martin Clunes - hope they play the Goodbye Mr. Chips remake over here. Will put it on my list - thank you!! And welcome!!
Heather - so glad you heard from your cancer friend. Would you mind sharing her first name some time so I can kind of visualize her better? If you'd prefer not to, no problem. I know you posted the friend group photo a while back.
Wendy, I am thrilled about your new Manuka Honey venture. I know it will be a success!! Hope you can sell it over here in the States. I have been using real maple syrup when I need a sweetener for baking but like a little honey with AC Vinegar. I have a couple jars of local honey on the shelf I'll dip into more when the syrup runs out.
Sharon - there is lots of good advice and food for thought for you here! I think once the holidays are over and things settle down in your life a bit, your decisions will become clearer. I always tend to push that stuff down if I have more pressing issues to deal with, but it doesn't want to stay down forever. I wish you peace. You deserve it.
Kelly - glad you made it to Texas and are having a blast with Joaquin!! Hope you can meet up with some of the fabulous MFP gals.
Barbie - Thank you for posting your happiness commandments! I need to work on my own
I've been working on my 2017 review and 2018 guidelines, will post them tomorrow.
My next soup will be French lentil - I found a package of them in the freezer and there are lots of recipes for soup. I'll add a little Kale especially for Sharon and Katla, lol. Don't worry, it will be well-hidden!
I got an email from my Vegan/Celiac friend Marie, she wants me to come over and talk vegan cooking with her in the next few weeks. I can't wait! DH and I went to their home last year for a supper of fabulous soup and a wonderfully creamy chocolate soufflé. Her DH, John, was a real meat and potatoes guy and she has converted him - not by nagging or preaching him, but by making the tastiest food imaginable.
I'm going to see if I can get my DH to have at least 2 spoons of lentil soup, lol.
Oh, I just placed a seed order with Baker Creek - little lettuces, kale, and lots of different flowers - marigolds, bachelor buttons. I will try to force some of the veggies on heat mats.
Have a great Saturday!

I do tend to start my runs fast, and I wonder why I'm gasping for air and why this run feels so difficult, then I have to tell myself to slow down a bit. I won't be the fastest person across the line ... I'm just hoping I'm not last.
Machka in Oz
The goal is to finish the first time. The second race your goal is to beat your time/pace. I only race against myself, never the crowd. But I understand the desire to not be the last one across the finish line. lol Usually that's not a problem. In the marathon I did a run/walk and that really helps me keep the energy levels up. Run 5 minutes, walk 1 (or 2 depending upon my mood). The walk is a fast walk but it helps keep the heart rate within boundaries that I've set.
You're going to do fine. And yes, the Hoka's are like running on pillows compared to others I've had. My knees don't hurt at all when I run in them.

Michele, a stability bar? Could you post pic?
Michele and pip, Michelle's right, uploaded the video to YouTube first, then pasted the link it provided. THINK the tall thing was the North Pole, but maybe not since there's a magician nearby. Will try to stop by the park before they take it down and get a better pic.
pip but your piece of cake 1/2 mi is followed by a full work day, then another 1/2 mi, no? No wonder you could run a marathon!
Rye sleep superpower, awesome!
Becca, Procraftinating? Now THAT's a craft I could do!
Janetr not in your neck of the woods, but Azalea Park in Brookings OR. I too love to drive past people's light displays but this was a walk through, all put up by volunteers, costs sponsored by local biz, admission a whopping $2, kids free.
Evvie, Margaret so creative and skilled!
7 pages behind, but practicing for a new habit, stop and DO something after every page.
Hugs to all,

Thanks, it’s all just part of my work week, just habit, you’ll get to the place where it will b “just habit” for u to, just keep at it1 -
Allie, dear, you have so much on your plate right now. Hang in there!
Heather - Glad you heard from your friend at last. I can imagine her apparent urge for privacy may be hard on you, but your ability to acquiesce and respect her wishes is admirable.
Incidentally, I came across your DDIL yesterday while reading the Guardian - an article about how to make your New Years' resolutions stick. Wise words! Later in the same article, who should crop up but Barbie's guru Gretchen Rubin. Quotes from two people I'd heard of and who weren't politicians! For once in my life I felt I was à jour with modern culture!
About the Twelve Days of Christmas: Scandinavian tradition stipulates that Christmas Day is the first day of Christmas. This numbering is completely incorporated into the languages. In Norwegian, they even go so far as to call Christmas Day "first Christmas day". Both Swedes and Norwegians call Boxing Day "the second day of Christmas" and Epiphany is "the thirteenth day of Christmas". Twelfth night (as in Shakespeare's play) is the eve of Epiphany, which is a public holiday in Sweden (but not Norway). That means the 5th is a big day for parties. All Swedish schools and many offices are closed from Dec 23 to Jan 6. Life doesn't get back on track until January 7th.
Since you're supposed to celebrate throughout "Christmas", most people don't take their decorations down until after January 6th (but on the other hand, most don't put them up until well into December, many as late as Christmas Eve). But in Sweden, everyone agrees that you simply MUST pack up the decorations by January 20th, when Knut (Canute) has his name-day. There's even a rhyme for it: Tjugondag Knut, då dansas julen ut! (Twentieth day Canute, then we dance Christmas out!)
Tomorrow I'll be putting away the Christmas candle
but the window star and the glass vase with the string of white lights will stay UP and ON until daylight comes back in late February. Up here in the winter dark of the Arctic, we NEED those extra points of light.

I never considered the 12 days of Christmas to be ethnic, more a Christian based. The church calendar follows that, 12 days and then Epiphany. Interesting that the countries have it as part of their culture and traditions and even declare holidays for it all. Nice.
My husband had to go to Stavanger, Norway for a business trip in January a few years back. I asked him what Norway was like and he said, "I have no idea. It is dark when I get up and dark when I go to the office, and dark when I come out. It's even dark at lunch time. I don't think they have a sun here." lol He was supposed to go farther north up to Trondheim but that part of the trip was canceled. The Norwegians told him that he hadn't really seen dark until he went farther north.

On my 1st marathon (have done 3) I only had one goal and one alone. I wanted 2c if I could I could run the whole way, no walking, all run. I didn’t care about pace or who was passing me or if I was passing people. I did it and I was happy. Ended up doing in 4-1/2 hour, little over 10min mi. I remember at the 1/2 way mark we were at a 9min mi pace, so I knew we had to slow down to get thru the other 1/2. Oh, and I don’t run in tennis shoes,2 -

Hee-hee! Today was clear and the moon is almost full, so after lunch, my husband and I went out to catch some of that great moonlight! He took some pictures, but I don't have them on my computer. Instead, here are two pictures from earlier this week. The first shows the church, and the mountainside east of the valley where our town hunkers out of the wind.
Here's the other side of the valley. The mountain in the background rises about 1650 ft above the town. The lights halfway up the mountainside are at the abandoned coal mine where Santa Claus lives.
Both pictures were taken at about 2 p.m. So yep, it's dark here.

My hubby was the most stuck in the mud roast or sausages, paired with roast potatoes or mashed potatoes, man when I met him. He complained about EVERYTHING I made. It was not a meal unless it had meat and potatoes. Did I mention he is Irish? LOL. Over 30 years I have converted him to colorful salads and fruit smoothies, spicy Mexican food, chili, avacadoes/gaucamole, eggplant lasagne and other healthy choices. He cooks on the weekends and he still makes his roasts or does fatty chops on the barbecue, but at least he also heaps up a big salad to go with it, as he pointed out to me last night! He does cook for me any special requests I have. He makes beautiful curried eggs and I love his cauliflower cheese.
I am just out now to take some queens out and check on last week's grafts and put some more cells in... Wendy

Welcome to the new women and those returning after being away for awhile!
Terry How about "The Missing Link"?
Heather So great you heard from your cancer friend. A relief.
We just got back from a lovely fondue lunch with my partner's son & daughter-in-law. Chicken, shrimp, & roasted veggies (red bell pepper, cauliflower, broccoli, onion, zucchini, and yellow summer squash). No dessert. It was scrumptious!

Yaye, got some bonus queens! I think my queen rearing hives are starting to get into the mood... Will need to get really good at this because we will need hundreds of queens in the next couple of years to get our hive numbers up...I need to do more research and study. I've had two hard years in a row after a really easy year where they were coming out my ears... So many factors affect bees...but I need to learn how to mitigate negative factors and encourage positive factors. Lots to learn. I'm buzzing! LOL8

Yesterday,a neighbor stopped in to see our new heat/AC regulator.Anyway,he mentioned DH said I had some type of
On line infection. He looked & said it almost surely came from FB.He works as a specialist with such stuff.
DD talked me into signing up for FB,but never thought to use it.Was just “there” in list of apps.
Run Malwarebytes on your phone and computer. That should take care of any "viruses".
Also don't click on clickbait, ads, links in emails, etc.
