You rock, ladies! I didn't have any wine last night either and I'm feeling great this morning! It's sunny and gorgeous here today and I'm getting ready to go out for a very long walk with DH. We usually walk for about 2-3 hours and get about 13-15K steps in. Happy Saturday indeed!
Great job too! Really makes a difference not having a headache on Saturdays ! Enjoy the long walk in the beautiful sun!1 -
Well, the wine gods got me last night. Exercise is great, eating is ok, but drinking out of control last night. Was really good wine though!!4

I didn't drink alcohol yesterday....3 days without it for me after years drinking daily. I feel great! Exercising daily to the 30 day Shred and learning guitar is my substitute, along with tea! Have a great day today and live it to it's fullest!3 -

I have had 1 spritzer a night for the last 2 nights with dinner, it's been very nice and civilized and I don't get headaches and it cuts the calories in half. I'm very happy with this new idea! My drinking has definitely gone down this week. The tough part will be this weekend - I have a total of five (5!) holiday gatherings / events. My plan is to have max 1-2 drinks at each event, still 10 drinks over the weekend which is not great, but at least I'm limiting myself and being realistic.
Wow!! I am glad for you. It really worked for me. Hardly a struggle after a few days, and now I haven't even had a wine for 3 days...the best part is...I had zero cravings for it!! I feel so so much better now....in fact, it is my new lifestyle. I might have a drink on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve., but it will be one, or at the most two. Then, I will go back to tea and water. To break it up I will sometimes have ice water mixed with diet gingerale, or Sprite Zero in my water bottle, which I am decreasing that also... I am hoping the spritzer's work for you!! Have a great week ahead.2 -

I like your spritzer ideas. Will need to try that. I also like when you said 'it's my new lifestyle". Great way to view it. I may adopt that thinking too. Thanks for the inspiration!1 -
Im in, it's very hard for me since I am a bartender and sommelier, I have been attending wine classes and spiting all the wine like a pro but at home I have almost eliminated wine but it's hard sometimes, used to have a glass of wine after work or before going to bed almost everyday. Since I started using MFP almost 2 months ago I have only had 5oz of wine and one lite beer. Good luck all!!4

Well it has been 3 days of drinking. I was so tired and I let this stress of this car get to me. The mechanic can't figure out why this engine light keeps coming on. So many fixes and there it pops right on again. I am way overdue for inspection. I am not happy about drinking over it, but this month is still good. Most of it dry. My skin gets so dry and I look so much older after drinking, too. One day or minute at a time.3

Well, I am irritated. Drank way too much yesterday. I even went over my calorie limit. Plus the scale didn't go down this week. Overall feeling disappointed and irritated. 2nd 1/2 below.2

(2nd 1/2 was cut off)Oh well, a new week and a chance to start over. I know where I went wrong and will make the changes next time!4

All we can do is forgive ourselves and move on. I also reflect what I could do better next time. Last night, I had a whole bottle of wine throughout the party, but I also brought 2 liters of Perrier to the party with me. And filled up my glass a lot with Perrier. So, I had small success with that. When I go to parties, that's where my good sense goes down hill:)5 -
Just got back from France and took 2 days off the diet and alchohol rule. I had a really nice time - and ate a lot of fish! Wine was Chablis mainly and I factored it into my diet. Haven't dared get on the scales yet but suspect either maintenance or have put on a few 1bs. Back to behaving myself today but it was a lovely mini-break!4

no wine on the weekend!! Unheard of for me in the last 4 years....I had none the whole weekend and I have had 4 days without alcohol. My husband is drinking and it smells bad. I never noticed it when I was drinking. For some reason I thought that when you drank wine you couldn't smell the alcohol. I really don't want to smell like that. I feel so so much better....my memory is much better, which helps me learn my guitar easier.7

This is very inspiring! Thanks for sharing. I have not checked in since last Wednesday, but overall, I am pleased with how I have been doing this month. So far, I have had one night of overdoing it with a bottle of wine, but other than that, I have been able to keep things in check, even with holiday parties and other social events. We had a neighborhood party on Friday and I drank moderately, got up early Saturday morning and walked the dog before meeting my running group at 8AM for a 13 mile run, baked all day, washed all of the sheets on the guest beds, cleaned the house and decorated my tree. It was about 15 hours of non-stop productivity. Definitely could not have accomplished it all had I drank heavily the night before. This is the inspiration I have been using to remind myself why I need to stop before I reach the point of no return.
My in-laws begin arriving on Thursday of this week. I usually don't drink too heavily around them because I like to keep myself in control. I am a bit worried about what could happen after they leave on December 26th though7 -
I only had 1 beer on Sunday! Now for the easy part; the work week! 1 upside to working 2nd shift, it is easier to skip weekday drinks.5

Tough party weekend, but two days without alky now. It was a great party, great people, but I have to do better on New Years!5

So I got on the scales this morning and have put on 1lb. Whilst in France I was averaging 2000 cals a day. I usually aim for 1500-1600 to lose weight slowly. I can live with that after a fantastic weekend. If I can get back to me pre-weekend weight by this weekend I will regard that as a win... Aiming to enjoy Christmas and Boxing day but then back on the diet after that. Lots of family meetups so will need to be careful.5 -
no wine yesterday...that will be 5 days free of alcohol! I am functioning much better!8

Well done MaryBeth! I resisted alcohol last night when hubby gave me a "cook's slurp" whilst cooking up a risotto and then tried to open a bottle for the meal. It was very hard to say no (which tells me a lot about myself) but I managed it, had a really good night's sleep and feel fine today... I need to hang on to that good feeling..3

Went 4 days last week with no alcohol but did drink quite a bit this past weekend as I was out of town and with friends. I don't plan on drinking for awhile. I feel as it's stumping my weight loss more because when I drink I wanna eat anything I can get my hands on and that's no good.3
-
Three days so far without alcohol; I was so tempted last night, but I resisted. I even got out the opener, and then put it back in the drawer. Then, I felt frustrated, because I really wanted that delicious wine. What weird thoughts went through my head! Of course, the craving passed, and I didn't have any.
I know I prefer wine as a reward for a hard day's work. I need to re-frame that reward system in my mind. Tonight, I will be drinking wine with friends. Will keep it to 2-3 maximum!7 -
Wow, this thread is inspiring! I started in November having two (non-consecutive) no-alcohol days per week which has made it much easier to limit the quantity on other nights to two or less glasses of red. It has also made it easier to skip it in on at least one other night per week. My goal is to give it up completely as well.
Right now a couple-few days a week abstaining is getting much easier and after the first of the year I'll be ready for a 30 day challenge. I have a feeling that once I make it 30 days I won't even want to go back to a semi-nightly habit.
Sleep is always better, I have way more energy in the morning, I lose weight more easily, and I have a lot less puffiness in my face which makes me look more youthful. Now that I'm 50 I need all the help I can get in that department! lol. Hopefully my blood pressure will go down too.
Everyone here is so inspiring and doing such a great job! Thanks to all of you for posting your experiences!!!5 -
Another day without wine, but then there was no sunshine either.
Sure hope I am not scaring the sun away! LOL6 -
Just came back from evening with friends. Happy with myself-
After five hours out, just had two cocktails. I really did want one more but didn't. Feel pretty good!
I'm really grateful for this thread and everyone's candor.4 -

My goal is similar- eventually want to give it up totally. I like your goal of two alcohol free days per week . I also agree my face looks less puffy and I sleep much better when I don't have any alcohol. Thanks for your input:)5 -
