for me, Anxiety is rough as i was able to turn it off and enjoy life. Then it resurfaced ten fold and it was hard to remove again. Trust me, its not simple to turn on and off.
my original question was only out of curiosity.
CBT can be really good for anxiety2 -

I cited the most common expressions I here from such people. I cited that because it comes so often in combination with some food intolerance that I have began to not believe there is anxiety at all. There is of course some percentage with real medical mental problems but they dont ask their gastroenterologist what food should they stop eating. They go to a psychiatric clinic or to a psychologist. It is ridiculous for me to say gluten free cured a mental state. The most logical explanation would be the person never had that mental issue, they just felt better about tjeirselves starting a more disciplined way of life like .... gluten free. Anyways...

OP went to a doctor about anxiety so it’s not just a case of normal anxious feelings. I have anxiety and it wreaks havoc on my life. It wakes me up in the night with panicky thoughts, causes cognitive issues, puts me in a cycle that is very difficult to get out of.
OP, I’d ask your doctor to clarify about the dairy warning. I’ve never heard of it. Therapy is very helpful and you may need medication. I had a terrible time about a year ago. Therapy and the right meds help. CBT can be good, too. Good luck!8 -
Warning: My opinion is based on things I've learned in holistic nutrition school, so take my advice with a grain of salt.
Dairy is said to be "bad" for you because cows naturally release a lot of hormones in their milk during pregnancy. These hormones (estrogen and progesterone) eventually end up in a person's bloodstream when they consume it. Since our environment is already loaded with tons of xenoestrogens, we actually want to avoid more going into our body to lower the risk of hormone imbalances and eventual problems down the road. Another important thing to note is the fact that most dairy has synthetic hormones added to it ON TOP of the naturally occuring hormones, which isn't that great for endocrine and reproductive health. If you still want a little dairy in your life, raw is the best if it's available in your city. Organic sheeps or goats milk isn't harmful on occasion either.34 -

The lactose/dairy correlation aside, there's some real ignorance towards anxiety, what it is and how to deal with people who have it. You people need to do some research and be a little more empathetic to those who suffer from it. Nobody wants to have anxiety and it's not "life is hard, just deal with it".22

I just dropped out of school because I was having anxiety attacks at the thought of studying. That's not just normal anxiety. And I'm not going to blame it on certain foods...I've dealt with anxiety and depression for seventeen years. That's just my brain.8 -
I'm lactose intolerant so I don't consume dairy anymore. I don't know about it specifically being related to anxiety, but Ido believe in mind body connection. One's diet can be related to mental health and vice versa.0

Everybody has anxiety. Not everyone has an anxiety disorder, which is totally different and completely okay (good, even!) to get professional help to deal with. Expecting people to just "accept" anxiety can result in real harm. Please consider not giving people advice when you don't know what you're talking about.
Anxiety disorders aren't about not being strong enough. Just be quiet on this topic.18 -
This does not support the dairy is bad for anxiety thought, and in fact suggests that fermented dairy may be good for it, but it is about the connection of diet and anxiety. I found it rather interesting.

Yup. I go through periods of feeling okayish but I have dysthymia, too. So, I constantly have to fight the negative feedback loop. Years ago, I had an anxiety crisis. It came on without warning. I found it difficult to leave my apartment. I felt embarrassed and, yes, weak. So hid it from my boyfriend. But, I was not in control of how I was feeling. I avoided people I knew, would break into a cold sweat. It was hell. I did eventually tell my partner and he encouraged me to see a therapist. It helped. I find that therapy & meditation help me. Also, writing down thoughts to get them out of my head does, too. I’m not a big dairy consumer andI buy organic when I do consume it. Genetics plays a role with certain mental disorders. My father has depression and anxiety.3 -

Dairy is associated w/increased risk for protate, ovarian and breast cancer.
Consumption of high kevels of saturated fat from dairy is associated w/increased risk of heart or vascular disease.

Although I agree with what you say about gluten hysteria, and the evidence that dairy contributes to anxiety is slim at best, the highlighted phrases above are way off base. There are plenty of physical bases for anxiety, including ingestion of alcohol, marijuana, caffeine, and other stimulants, and a:

It's not "mental weakness" that causes someone to have symptoms of anxiety and depression. Telling someone who has anxiety to "just calm down" is not going to make a difference, and neither telling someone who's depressed to "just cheer up". And mishandling your interactions with someone who's depressed can lead to dire consequences.14 -
Just finding it horribly ignorant that people are talking about anxiety disorder as an illness like it's the same thing as "I have anxiety over a test/job interview/upcoming project at work/etc." Please stop.15

PCRM is an animal rights organization posing as physicians researching vegan diets. I'm all for animal rights and nothing wrong with being a vegan but their "research" reflects their organization's bias and their name (Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine) reflects their shaky relationship with facts. Having a physician with books to sell as your spokesperson does not make you a "physicians committee".

That first study doesn't appear to have anything to do with the connection between consuming dairy products and subsequent anxiety disorders. The second link results in a "page not found" error.5 -

The first one does show that estrogen can be absorbed from the milk but does not show long term issues with that (it suggests that there may be problems but does not specifically link problems to the consumption of milk) and the second is hidden behind a paywall (although the abstract does say that their HYPOTHESIS is that consuming milk causes problems). Again, neither of these shows a link to anxiety disorders.8 -

The first was a link to a study done on a whopping 18 people, and it showed that directly after consuming cows milk there was evidence of estrogen in the urine. And four out of the five women ovulated during the test and around the same time. Doesn't say they weren't going to ovulate anyway. Doesn't show any long term conclusions. Doesn't even mention anxiety.
The second I'm not able to see except for the hypothesis, which is that modern dairy products may be responsible for male reproductive disorders.
