Linen Closet: I do not have one. Everything gets crammed into a chest of drawers.
Ironing: What's that? When I was growing up we usually had help with ironing for our house of 7 people. She even ironed my dad's shorts and my mom's slips.
Lisa and Janet: I am just fighting NOT to gain any more weight. At 167 lbs and being 5' 2" I am probably considered obese. But, at age 69, I really only care when I think about putting on a bathing suit.
Plenty of sunshine here but still in the 20's and low 30's. The Pomeranian loves it! Begs to go out on the porch and has to be made to come back in.3 -
Thanks for all the love thrown my way, y'all. No intentions of going anywhere, though there are times I despair when I read the successes, and I ache for that again--then I realize I am successful, just not at the same things. No excuses, just choices that I'm making right now.
Do love y'all,
Lisa in NC8 -
I'm collecting some running songs for a play list on my phone. Does anyone have any good suggestions? Songs with a good, regular, upbeat beat. I've found three so far, but would love to get at least 30 minutes worth.
I'm so annoyed about them changing the app. :grumble:

Hi all, we are having a heat wave today as it is 7 degrees! Have had the wood stove going so I’m nice and toasty. Thanks for your kind words and concern.
To all the newbies, welcome! This is a great bunch of caring women with lots of information and ideas about losing weight as well as life in general.
Lisa, glad to hear you aren’t going anywhere.
Buddled up and drove down to the mailbox first thing this morning and my jump rings had arrived!! Yippee. So I’m sure you all know what I’ve been doing. I finished the bracelet and had enough rings to make matching earrings.
Hope everyone is doing well. Even though I may not had a message just for you today you are in my thoughts.

Well, it is 71 degrees Fahrenheit here in Columbus New Mexico. Coming from New England I never thought I’d see that temp on January 7! My heart and warmth goes out to all you suffering the frigid cold!
I remember when my mom went to work, I was the oldest of four so housework was mine. Starting dinner and ironing too. Sheets, pillow cases, my dad’s boxers, hankies, and most everything else. Dusting weekly, “passing the dry mop” daily, etc... now I am terrible. Never iron, dust only sometimes, vacuum or sweep only when the floor really needs it. Not good at all, but.... DH tries to help but misses all the edges, then complains the whole time of having to do everything. Lol. I go behind him and get the corners and edges. This was true when we owned a house and now in the RV! When I was working full time and DH was Home, I expected him to clean, but all he did was cook and make more of a mess for me to clean. So I say keep it livable and don’t stress a little dust, dirt, or wrinkles!

Regarding decluttering ... twice in my life (2004 & 2009) I did a major declutter/purge. They were that traumatic I have no desire to do another one any time soon.
Regarding sheets ... my mother taught me how to fold them neatly. I keep the extra bedding in a blanket box in the dressing room. We use it to sit on to put on shoes or pop the laundry basket there when we're putting away clothes. Towels go in a large unit in the bathroom.1 -

Rita, you are my twin! My house is livable. Anyone who comes to see me in my home knows what to expect. The most sweeping that is done is around the litter box and that is only because I don't like walking on dirty kitty litter and trading it all over the house.
Lanette, I'm not sure who you mean when you say my two girls. Is that my two daughters or my two grand daughters? I don't mind talking about either one of the sets. Christina is still very busy in her job. She has to routinely drive from her home outside of Lexington my and going to West Virginia for her job. It drives her Dad crazy. He is of the old school that women don't drive on the hissy by themslves like that. She has a good knack for finding good cars for a cheap price. She loves looking for cars in the $500 to $1000 range. She usually is driving her bosses car which is either a new hybrid Camry or his old BMW but he needs the beemer back so they went car shopping. A couple of years ago they found an old Crown VIc and it was her main car. Now that is the car that Trinity drives when she is doing her practice driving on her permit. So Mom bought an older model minivan, can't remember what model it is. But when they came for Chritsmas her Dad approved it. And that is a big thing. He really loved that she drove a Crown Vic. Being a Police car, he thinks she is driving the safest car. So now he knows TRinity is safe. Oh, she did drive the 3 hour drive here for Christmas and then drove home and stopped off in LOuisville for my SIL side of the family Christmas. Ellie had the part of Naughty Santa in Yes Virginis there is a Santa Claus Jr. in their winter play. She is cocky enough that she said she knew she wouldn't even need to do an audition fr it since she was the Genie in Alladin last year. She also made the archery club this year. They loved Christmas this year because there was a new baby. Both of them volunteer in their church's children's area in the baby nursery. I think Ellie's age of 11 is the minimum age to volunteer. You can volunteer in the older kids area but to work with the babies and change diapers and feed them you have to be 11. I have no idea how they made that age requirement. But both girls love singing and lead the worship in the kids area which is called Kids Quest.
Michelle still hasn't gotten any better physically after having her gall b,adder out. Still the abdominal pain, night sweats, hot flashes. She had a Cat scan of her abdomen but she hasn't told me what the results are. I guess I need to text her! Since it is 41 degrees today I am sure she will be spending time out at the dog park. The dogs don't mind being out there that much in this frigid weather but their owners aren't to keen on it. I just wish she had a bigger yard so they could get their energy out and be more behaved inside the house.
Christina got me a cat condo for Chritsmas and I haven't gotten either cat to use it at all. If I tempt them with a cat treat I can get hem to get it on one of the levels but that is the only way. There has been one cat treat on the top level for 3 days now and they don't realize it. I can tell they have smelled it but don't know how to get to it.
Well I'm watching the ice dance competition now. Everyone is saying Minor got robbed by not being on the Olympic men's team but he failed on his only quad attempt where Nathan Chen did 5 of them. I'm sure the winner in the Olympics will have several Quads in their program. I did enjoy his skate though. I remember him from several years ago and didn't even know he was back on the dancing scene. So far USA has a good figure skating team to represent us.
Well Michelle is going to be over here around 5 and I am still in my Jammies so I better get up and change. We are supposed to have freezing rain tonight.

I have a playlist that I call beat jogging. I run to the pace of the music. doesn't matter if the words are depressing, it's the beat of the music that I have to keep. I have used It on all my runs and marathons. when I got faster then I would add music with a faster beat cuz the original music is too slow, but it's good for long runs anyway.
the problem with me, even if I LOVE the song, I won't use it if it's not to my pace of running. so for me it's all about the beat, not who is singing. so I find people who I like with songs that have the beat I need4 -
Welcome to the new youngesters. I KNOW I am the oldest person on this thread but hey I’m proud to be as active as I am at this age. We just joined our Y which is only a couple of years old and so far everything has been great. Did a “gentle” yoga class Saturday and made me wonder what the hard classes are like. LOL
Mary_ miss seeing you and hope all is well in AZ. I know the changes in your employmentment status has taken time to get organized but I miss you.
Lin - miss seeing your “see you lighter” posts.
Feeling a little stuffy today with sore throat. Wondering if this is a result of the heat being out and getting chilled. When reading posts I noticed women wanting motivation and results and it made me think of what my pastor said this morning. The output you get is in direction portion to the input you give. So buckle up and get serious. I know I need to. I’m already two weeks behind as I wanted to get everything straightened out the week before New Years. Tomorrow is another day.

Heather, Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne - loved running to that one. Also Back in Black and Thunderstruck by AC/DC, Pink has a few good ones also, I just can't think of any of the names right now! I agree with Pip, I like the beat of the song for running, the words etc aren't as important, in my opinion. Good luck!
Joyce, I'm concerned about your blood pressure readings, especially if they are high when you are at rest. It could be that you are not on the right meds. I really hope you can talk to your gp about this soon.
Sue, your pastor is absolutely right! We do get out what we put in! I'm working on it.... lol
That's it for me for now. Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

OK the sheets on my bed are pretty much our only set. I do have some smaller sizes, that I just hang from hangers. The same with my pillow cases hang from hangers, that I just hang in the spare room closet. That goes for all table runners, and beach towels. Pretty much all we have in our nuke sons old rooms closet is husbands military uniform, the stuff I already said, and the Christmas items. Oh and the tree is in there too!

January 2018 Accountability
Saturday - Jan 6th
✔1. Carbs 75g max with no more than 25g per meal.[44g]
✔2. Fiber 30g. [34g]
✔3. Track in MFP. Complete the entry daily.
✔4. Vegetables - eat a big veggie salad at least once a day.
5. Exercise - log 30 Fitbit minutes
✔6. No eating after 9pm. To prevent late night snacking & get a good 12 hour overnight fast.
✔7. In bed by midnight.
8. Declutter - daily mission.
✔9. Dress to shoes daily.
Another good day.
• Exercise. As my diet changes and i adjust to less sugar, fewer carbs - my energy levels should increase. Getting dressed to shoes daily helps. I’ll get back to the walk at Home videos.
• Declutter. I haven’t done my declutter missions. This past week was Zone 1 - Front entrance, porch, downstairs living room. The only thing we did there was set up a new dvd rack. Dan has 295 DVDs and 20 VHS tapes. I’ve counted them. Next - I need to see if any can be recycled. We also have about 100 DVDs at the lake house. He likes his movies and rewatches many of them. This week is Zone 2: Kitchen. I’ve got a plan...

Barbara - That is pretty much how I fold my sheets. This guy was definitely folding a full-sized fitted sheet; no way it was any bigger. The chair worked for me. Then laying it on our king-sized bed to do the folding in 3rds. I will have to figure out which ones are king and queen and keep 2 of each (plus the flannel set). One 'on' and one 'off'. I think I counted at least 9 sets; and so many extra pillowcases it doesn't make sense where I got them. I am pretty sure some of them were wedding presents ... 45+ years ago.
Mimi sent her sheets to be washed and pressed; but, if I had 100% cotton, I would probably do the same thing. What I have found to be a bit strange is the higher the thread count, the more wrinkled they seem to get if not folded up right as you pull them from a hot dryer. His balling up the sheet at the beginning of the video is about the way Louis feels when I ask that he help me. He is getting better. For a while I was putting just one set of sheets in the dryer and by the time I got them out, all the sheets were inside the fitted one and 'if' I had had room, I would have just stored them that way. But, it took longer to dry them unless I go in and check them and untangle them to finish drying.
First full day with Louis being gone. Jennifer is supposed to have gotten me a new fireplace lighter. I tried to burn trash yesterday since it was so nice yesterday when I got up. Only about 2 handfuls of trash just would not burn; then I got some 'fat-lighter' and even it would not stay lit. I just raked it all up in the middle of the burn pile and will not worry about it. I think some of it was damp because the bottom of the trashcan was damp. I don't know where the hose when unless it is plugged into the side spigot to run the hose while it was below freezing. I need to wash it out before it gets too full of trash.
The hiding place for the Hobby Lobby craft stuff was hysterical. I am planning on getting Louis to buy me some banker's boxes and repack my Christmas decorations and mark them so I don't put them back into another box that is marked to hold something else.
I have not kept up with my food, just enough (breakfast and snacks) to keep my 'days running' going. I am trying to take Margaret's advice about turning off my electronics by 8:00pm and going to bed by 10:00. Last night I stayed up until the news came on at 11:00pm and I slept until 8:15 this morning. Got up and let Cracker out and went back to bed and slept until 9:30am. I have 'yawned' all day long. But, not sleepy enough to go to bed. Did take a few 'naps' today.
Other than that ... haven't been doing much today.

HarvestSue2 wrote: »Thanks, Barbie, for leading out this thread for more “mature” adults! I do need to connect more on MFP with older women who refuse to atrophy. After six months on MFP and logging every day plus increasing exercise from hardly any to 5,000+ steps a day, I am .8 lb. away from goal! It really helped to log everything. That’s after ten years of procrastination. So grateful to God for that breakthrough. The hardest part still lies in front of me and I can feel the resistance. I need to increase the steps more and add weights, etc. I need to restore muscle after sitting so much at a computer for years.
My goal is to be physically fit and responsibly active by my 70th birthday in June.
January:
Start slow but start on workout tapes
Increase steps to average 6,000/day.

Welcome, Sue, I carry a pedometer and many others have a FitBit or something similar to inspire us to walk more. Also many of us have read and used the suggestions in "Strong Women Stay Young". I hope you'll keep coming back.

Barbara, I recommend that you read or listen to "10% Happier" and "Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics" by Dan Harris and look for his meditation app "10% Happier". I meditate without an app or a guided meditation but that doesn't work for everyone.

lpaul - welcome! Congrats on losing 35 pounds. Now get to that pool or else pip will get her boot out....lol!!!!
Regarding the folding sheets...my granndmother showed me that when taking the pillowcases off the pillows to wash, turn them inside out. After drying, put your arms into the pillowcase, grab the far corners of the pillows and turn the pillowcase right-side out onto the pillow. Vince never heard of this until I showed him.
Helped Vince take the ornaments off one of the trees (the Star Trek tree), then we took in the inflatables. Even tho it is cold out, it's only rained once since we put them out. It's supposed to rain tomorrow. Before they can be put away, we need to inflate them to dry them out. So now we won't have to have them inflated as long. The ground is so hard that Vince went to pull one of the stakes out of the ground and it broke. So we're just leaving the stakes in the ground. I don't think our ground was ever this frozen.
Went to WalMart, Vince needed milk so I went there since I needed a few other things, too. Renewed our membership at Sam's. Not that we use it a whole lot, but we do buy most of our gas there since we get the 5 cent discount. Out of curiosity, I checked out the price of the milk there. It was almost 30 cents higher than at WalMart next door. Don't really understand it since they are the same company. You would think they'd be buying in bulk and have the same prices. Honestly, I don't think the prices at Sam's are that good. However, if you need something in bulk, you can get it there. Also, their meats are much better than the meats at WalMart.
Becca - did you at one time live in China? CRS right now
pip - WTG on that streak! Have you ever gone to the walk.jog.fm site? As I recall, they listed their songs in BPM. I'm glad that I don't have to worry about a beat for running since I don't do running....lol
joyce - I'm worried about you, too
Terry - great that you got your rings. Now you can really work on them.
Lenora - I thought him balling up the sheet in the beginning of the video was priceless.

I hunk all of you for your concern for me. Tomorrow morning I will call my GP and give him the update he asked for. I will a,so let him know that if he wants me to continue on the Clonodine for my as needed medicine that it needs a refill. My last reading was 140/75 so it isn't terrible all the time. I just wish I had set the date/time on my B/P machine when I bought it. That way I could accurately tell him exact dates and times. But it didn't. Also, it keeps 60 readings in memory, no, is ent exceeded that but I wish it kept more. The online app it syncs with only keeps about 20. So I have to erase the early ones which are also the higher ones in order to get the ones I am taking now. I wish I could just take my phone and show him all of them. But I can't. Boo hoo.
Sue, as the oldest member here, how old are you?
