Karen NY ... Enjoy your mini-vacation at home! By the way, 8" of snow is a lot by any standard! We had a good laugh when we saw this ...
Airline Baggage ... my son checks everything in ... playstation consoles, computers, electronic equipment ... with very little sound packaging in my opinion and definitely not my recommendation. So far he's been lucky. We only fly Southwest ... don't know if that makes a difference.
Weather ... very cold this weekend. Negative temps with even more negative windchill. Not sure I can differentiate between 5 below and 25 below ... it's just cold!
Heather ... hugs ...
Allie ... thinking of you and your Dad. The landlord sounds disagreeable ... I would definitely watch things closely if you decide to buy in the Spring!
Doing lots of laundry today as my younger son is getting ready to fly back to school tomorrow morning. He changed his flight to an early morning run so he would be back in his dorm in time to watch the Buffalo Bills play their wildcard game tomorrow. Football fans are a different bunch! He'll be getting up at and leaving the house by 5:00am ... with his Dad ... I'm not getting up then!
I'm a little sad today. I do this every time my son gets ready to leave for school ... a little mini-grieving ...

I am at an all day sit down meeting so I had to get up super early to walk the dogs and be ready to leave at 7 AM. I drove home at lunchtime to walk the dogs and eat my lunch. I don't do well sitting still so today has been a challenge.

Temp 5, "realfeel": -16; 18" snow on the ground. It's January. Only 2 more months of this to go...
I'm trying to keep up on this page, it goes fast.... Oh, yeah, I managed to keep to my goals today, mostly :-)

Okie, looks like I lost my message. Doing a happy dance for your smaller size pants!
Guess who shoveled today.

Allie, when my dad passed away we got a LARGE dumpster so that we could go through the shop. The house wasn't bad, mom wouldn't let him bring a bunch of crap in and would always tell him to take stuff out to the shop if he wanted to keep it. We filled that dumpster. Yes, there was some stuff from our house too, but mostly just his shop. Old extension cords, old nails, just old junk! We found a few treasures too, but mostly just lots of junk that he'd bought at other people's yard sales and thought he could sell at his own yard sale for more. Yeah, didn't happen and eventually people stopped coming to his yard sales because it was the same old junk and he wanted too much money for it. I all but gave away a LOT of stuff when we held a yard sale in the fall, but I was just so glad to see it go, the money was just gravy! lol It is definitely a process. When I finally attacked the house, it actually took me about 6 months to sell, donate and generally get rid of everything. I sometimes look at our stuff and wonder "if I were to die tomorrow, what would the kids think of some of this stuff". Oh well, hopefully I'll be around long enough to make some sense of it myself! I keep trying!4

Machka, sure hope the fire doesn't affect you and that it gets put out quickly!M in Oz: We were plagued with fires last summer. The smoky air is horrid & I have great sympathy for your current situation. It may put a crimp in your training routine and biking for a while. Take good care of your lungs! :flowerforyou:
Fortunately none of the fires (there were 3 or 4 in our area) were very big and they all got put out quite quickly. The police and fire service did something a bit different ... they targeted all the firebugs in the area, so they had crews on hand where known firebugs live.

Oooh my kitchen smells wonderful!
Toasted coconut flakes
Toasted oatmeal w/ a drizzle of syrup
Toasted walnuts and peanuts with a bit of butter, brown sugar and tossed with cinnamon sugar
Mixed it all with some dark chocolate chips, after it all cooled!
I have labeled it Trail Mix of the Gods!
It should last a long time, put a saltine cracker in the container so it stays dry.
I have a little container I will use as my portion control.
Fun stuff!
I ate a sliced tomato on whole wheat bread. Fast is over.... Lost 2.2 lbs this past week. Thinking fasting once or twice a week might be a good thing.

Out of step with the prevailing sentiment here as usual. I rebel against ‘positive’ resolutions. Add x food, eat more veggies, etc. These become chores in my mind and then I tend only resent them.
If I can frame things as goals, then I am more likely to wholeheartedly give it my best. Especially goals with flexibility or wiggle room. My calorie goals, for instance are now weekly goals - enabling me to be more flexible. I like games, and my Apple Watch makes getting my movement and exercise each day into a game (oops, have to go walk now if I want to close that ring today...). But paradoxically I hated the MFP challenge I joined - it felt too much like chore and too little like goal.
Probably ought to get my head shrunk, I sound a bit crazy and conflicted- lol
Rye
I'm goal oriented too ... with some flexibility.
I cannot commit to something that requires I do or don't do something specific every day. Last year I even tried again with a silly little daily "resolution" where I decided I would wear a necklace 5 days a week going to work. I have a lot of necklaces but I so rarely wear them because I just can't be bothered. I thought it might be nice to wear them all over the course of a year. That lasted until about the third week of January!!
Mind you, in those three weeks, I bought several pairs of earrings because one thing I discovered is that I don't have a lot of matching between necklaces and earrings.
So I train for events and have annual goals instead. I just work away at them, and usually along about the end of March I check where I'm at ... and again in June, and toward the end of September. The check ins can spur me along a bit if I'm lagging behind in my goals.

Sending warm breezes to the frosty east. We are in the 60's today!!!! No snow expected until Wednesday.
Busy day of errands, prelim packing and cooking. Trying to use up all the fresh items in the fridge. Just blended and refrigerated two protein drinks made with spinach, banana, ginger and pineapple. Think I will take inspiration from Wendy, Rye and Becca and make the next two days liquid fasts. I'd like to shrink my appetite and tummy before stepping onto a cruise ship to the Mexican Riviera. I've been reading all the restaurant menus online, which alternately makes me hungry, excited and confused. We haven't selected any shore excursions yet, but DH really wants to try parasailing. My choice = a combo salsa making/salsa dancing class!!!! Not a chance I'll get DH to do this, but we'll see. So many fun options. I feel like a kid again knowing we're heading to an amusement park in a few days. I really want to do it all. And, I'm prepared to have an adult beverage or two. We are, afterall celebrating my birthday and our 30th wedding anniversary. As for attire, I've decided on one long black sheath style dress, with a variety of belts and scarves. And pearls. I seldom wear my fine jewelry, and the 30th anniversary is Pearl, so I'll be keeping that as a theme. I have a collection of Tahitian black pearls from my years of working in a shop in Hawaii. Does anyone have ideas for how to glam up a Fitbit Charge?
A couple months ago Mary in Arizona mentioned that the way to flatten one's stomach is with push ups. So, I've been doing them 3x/week since and am seeing definition...yay!
Lanette and Kim: How I envy your gardening skills and plots of land.
Katla: I've flown a gazillion flights and never lost a bag. However, I think Priority Mail is a fantastic service, and I wouldn't hesitate to go that route.
Beth: Go Bills. It's amazing how an entire community comes together when their team is doing well in the NFL playoffs.
Cathy, Sue and KJ: Sooooo happy you got to meet up. This group has such amazing connection, perhaps due to our maturity and mutual interest in living healthy, loving lives. Meeting many of you in person has been one of the supreme pleasures of my journey to goal weight and fitness. Unfortunately, my business travel budget was slashed, so I'm not out and about as much as I used to be. But, any Colorado residents or visitors who want to meet, message me, please!
Stay well. Stay warm. Stay the remarkable, wonderful people that you are. We can do this.

I think omits have had to read 5 pages! Note to self, don't wait so long again.
I'm with you all about resolutions that involve not allowing myself something. Moderating Joyce, moderation.
Katla, could it be that your daughter wants to take her things in a suitcase so she can be there to see her open it. If it is mailed, you can't control when it gets there.
I'm really enjoying watching the figure skating. I can't be.ieve it is less than a month when the Olympics start!!!!!! I find myself getting involved in sports I never even paid any attention to. DirectV has the Olympic Channel and I enjoy its offerings. I can't wait to see what kind of coverage it has for the Olympics.
My numb fingers and side of my face is driving me bananas. I am all wrapped up in a double layer fleece ball get and I can't get warmed up at all. I want my body back. And my blood pressure still isn't under control, it is the highest at bedtime. Makes Charlie very nervous to know I am going to bed with it so high. I will run out of my as needed pill tomorrow.
Love you bunches, stay warm and safe. Joyce, Indiana4 -
M in Oz - those cherries made my mouth water, then there was the cherry crisp. Boy do I want some cherries.
KJ - I though about you when it was in the 60s the day after you left. Oh well, I’m sure you enjoyed your time in TX anyway. Probably when you come back in the fall it will be in the 90s.
Terry - take care of yourself. Shoveling can be good exercise but it can hurt stuff also.
Yvonne - wanted to tell you how sorry I am about the passing of your DAD. Hopefully next time KJ comes you can meet her as she is amazing.
Cathy - I really. Enjoyed getting to know you better and it was kind of funny when that man got out of the car. I just kept on driving.
Katla- thought of you this morning as I attended Yoga for the first time at the Y. It was harder than I remember but I think I am just not use to using those muscles. Really enjoyed it.
Rori- so exciting to hear about your upcoming cruise. We love to cruise but we always try to go to the gym or walk on deck.
Since I didn’t take notes I’m having problems remembrances what is going on. Hope the NE folks are staying warm.
Better get my food logged.

Did Jillian Michael's Shred it With Weights. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Pilates Intermediate DVD.
Heather - you may not have lost weight, but according to the Wii I gained despite watching what I eat and exercising. However, on the positive side, I'm down a pound from last week. I usually weigh in on Sat. morning and use that number to judge if I'm going up too much or not.
barbie - now this is interesting. I was raised by my grandparents who raised their family during the depression. They saved EVERYTHING. I remember that my grandmother used to save pieces of alunimum foil to reuse. Now Vince parents weren't raised that way. Yet, he's the one who saves EVERYTHING "just in case I ever need it" and I'm the one who is most likely to throw something away. Like we had some old lights for Christmas. I asked Vince multiple times what we used them for. He said, "we'll just throw them away". Do you think he did? No, it was me who had to finally say "why don't we just throw them in the garbage?". Yet, when I do get rid of something, in no time at all he finds something else to go in that space.
Penny - your friend's son sounds so cute. Out of the mouths of babes, as they say. I'm sorry your husband hit that signpost, but it was a blessing in disguise because it showed the guests just how helpful everyone is up there.
I'm trying to go thru my cookbooks and put into the computer the one or two that I might be looking at in a certain cookbook then donating it. More room for more books....lol
M - oh, I just want to reach into the computer and have some of those cherries, they look sooooo good. Thank goodness the cherries look so good, that trifle isn't calling my name
Vince is working on taking the ornaments off the main tree. He's so OCD, every one needs to come off in a certain order, he has to wrap it up specially. So I just let him do it if that's what makes him happy. I have a feeling that because he has to do it to the other 4 trees, he'll want help. But I'll just wait until he asks for it.
I don't know what it is, but my lower back was REALLY hurting today. Don't know what I did, I don't think I did anything differently. I took 2 Tylenol and just reclined in the chair. I'm trying to go thru some cookbooks and if I only want one or two recipes from the cookbook, I'm putting them into the computer. Then I can donate the cookbook. So while I was reclining in the chair, I went thru a couple of cookbooks. It's so sad...so many things I thought sounded so good, but I had to keep saying "Vince won't eat that"
Okie - doing a happy dance for you. Two pant sizes, that's fantastic
Evelyn - doesn't it feel good to be satisfied with a smaller amount of something? (those cookies) You sound so much like Vince & me. We've been married 39 years. I wouldn't look to replace him, either. I think in a sense I'd welcome the chance to do different things. Mind you, it's not that I'm unhappy at all being married. He has many great qualities. But he's not someone who likes to travel, he's a homebody. And I'm just the opposite. I'd love to go lots of different places
Terry - nice eyes

Not conflicted or crazy to me, but am also out of step, and happy to be so for now. Have finally reached detente with my body, and haven't gained an ounce or lost one in more than three months. Am happy with that right this minute, though wake up from dreams on occasion of losing 40 pounds in 40 days... but right now, am so godawfully tired of beating up my poor, battered body and my even more battered soul on the subject, that I'm pleased to just take a breath. Don't talk about it a lot here, because I'm not here for the weight loss anymore, or the maintenance, I'm here because I love you people. There's a full spectrum here.

It is a chocolate cherry trifle ... sort of black forest cake-ish. I have to do something with the cherries! I eat them raw and I make cherry crumbles with them, but thought I'd try something different. Hence the pair of trifles.

Hi Gals,
Lanette – row cover – that’s probably my issue!
Well a short term big change is coming my way, I have a friend who is in college getting her masters, I meet her last year working at the camp that I work as the gardener at, we enjoy each others company. Well she’s been living with a cousin, and that situation needed to change, without a lot of notice. So in a week or so she’ll be moving into my guest room. It will probably be for just 2-3 months. Levi and I will love the company but I do work some crazy hours sometimes; although a college student keeps crazy hours too… so it will all work out. The good thing is she is a vegan, who eats very healthy so that should help me stay on the straight and narrow.
My god-daughter flew back to school in Boston today from Christmas break in CA - The flight left CA at 6:30am (local time) and after a 3 + hour unscheduled layover in Chicago (the plane had mechanical problems) she got to Boston after a 12 hour day.. She was exhausted! She likes flying but hates layovers and worries about being stuck.
One of my Christmas presents was money enough to buy waterproof work boots, I ordered them and they’ll be here on Friday. I am really excited. As someone (Barbie??) said there is just bad clothing not bad weather, but sometimes the clothing is expensive. So for the last few years I have lined my shoes with plastic bags, which sorta works… but water proof work boots will be true joy.

Alas, I let the Virgo Moon pass without any decluttering or organizing. Instead, when Joe invited me to walk on the
beach then ride bikes nearby I said YES! More important to me to be receptive when Joe suggests activities. He was surprised I wasn't "too busy". A little wakeup call... ;}
Barbie I'm really enjoying listening to "Better Next Year" while driving. Have put a hold on "Happiness Project". After I read it, and go through the exercises mindfully, will want to revisit Better Next Year. So much of what she says about good habit success depends on self knowledge, I look forward to clarifying that ;}
Lou love your approach to NY resolution.
Penny 500 g of raw veggies whole not juiced? smh
Machka I'm with you about Penny's life . . . and the month without sun. I don't think I'd be merely weeping, think I'd be catatonic. The cherries look beautiful! A long time 'til cherry season here... ;{ Strong winds and fire near you? Oh no! The Chetco Bar Fire here that started in July put our "soon to be" neighborhood under "go now" evacuation. We had to put off our move for a week and when we got here the heat and smoke were terrible. Fire wasn't out completely until the mid-October rains. Sure hope the fire doesn't come near you and that it's quickly extinguished.
Lanette you inspire me but I won't let myself look at seed catalogs, til I've walked 20 mins for 6 out of 7 days. Motivation! Do any of your seed catalogs carry parseley root?
Karen in UK Is your line dance social evening a weekly event? Any special faves? Here the Tues pm class starts next week after a holiday break, the Thur pm class continued throughout. I'm struggling to learn "clap happy" but enjoy "chain smokin', whiskey drinkin' summbeyatch"
Okie two sizes over the holidays! VERY well done!
Lenora hope the sheet folding works out. Here's a YouTube demo but my arms are too short to do it his way so I need the chair :} https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QXrZtXfo58
Rye you don't sound crazy, just a natural born rebel.
Still 2 pages to go but way past my 20 mins.

Ending this day feeling good about what I ate today and didn’t go over my calories. Down a little bit more so happy with that. Stayed off my feet today and ankle feels pretty good tonight. DH drove to the mailbox but my jump rings weren’t there. Could be they were delivered afterwards so I’ll drive down tomorrow. Itching to get started on my bracelet.
Love all the ideas being posted lately. One I’ll share is that I will sometimes write something on the bottom of my shoe if I want to remember it. Of course it doesn’t last too long but has helped on occasion.

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies...
You go away for a few days and come back to 15 pages. *sighs* I did, however, have a few hours, today... so I have actually caught up with all of you. I didn't take notes, mind you - but I do have a general sense of how everybody is.
I was VERY happy to discover that half of my weight gain in the last couple of months was simple body chemistry. It would seem that I was blessed in December with not one, but TWO monthly cycles. So, not only was my hankering after every bad thing partly due to hormonal influences, but the resulting "gain" was half puff.
Now that the dust has settled, my damage from two months of bad behavior was only ten pounds - and thank God for THAT.
I have managed to behave, so far this year - although I am still eating into my exercise calories, every day, at least I am not eating ALL of them, or over into my deficit, so Yay, Me. Since I don't even count my Strength Training as calories burned, I am fine, I think. And I can always tighten it up a little more as I get used to eating a bit less. I really was eating like a crazy person in December... Now I have to relearn a lot of stuff... but, at least I don't have to start over on exercise.
I had my first session with my Personal Trainer, last night... She did Lower Body, first, since I told her that is my priority. Girlfriend made my thighs BURN - which is greatness. It wasn't pain, just that hot muscle feeling that you get when you have really worked them out. Today, I can feel everything below the waist. Not pain, mind you, just that feeling of your muscles saying "Hey, I'm here..." Can't wait to see what she comes up with for arms/upper body on Wednesday.
I have a whole month to soak up whatever she can teach me, so I am excited.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
SueB, Cathy an KJ = I am so sorry I couldn't come on Wednesday - unfortunately, that's one of the two busiest days of my week. There is no way I could have made it across the metroplex and still gotten to work.
Sharon - Hugs, Sugar. Be strong and follow your head, as much as your heart. Sometimes the best thing isn't the easiest thing.
Allie - I am so sorry about your Dad. Hugs! I think you have one lucky pup... I know you will take the best possible care of him.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Regarding Lunches - about half the time, I eat leftovers from the prior night's dinner - or from prior meals that I put in the freezer. The rest of the time, if I have a few minutes, I throw some cheese and salami in a zip lock bag... if I am in a hurry, I grab 3 or 4 cartons of non-fat Greek yogurt. Lunch at work is easy food control... If I don't take it with me, I don't eat it. I try to keep lunch around 500 calories or less - so I can have a nice supper when I get home.
For those that are particular about the Microwave, you can do one of those small crockpots, or make your own "boil in bag" meals by putting food in a zip-lock back and dropping it in boiling water to heat it up. Just be sure that you vac all the air out of the bag and leave a little room for expansion as the food heats up.
Well, that's all the news that's fit to print.
Hugs and Love,
Re in thankfully warmer, now, TX6 -
I find I don't have much to say tonight , I'm sure that won't last.
Stay safe, stay warm.
