Good morning, lovlies!
Lanette The first muffin in a cup recipes I saw used the microwave. Finally found this, how much ground flaxseed/coconut flour do you use? https://elanaspantry.com/ratio-rally-quick-breads-almond-flour-muffins/
Machka spiders in bed? Eeeeuuuuuwww! Yes, time to put out the preventative scents. DoTerra's TerraShield (Ylang Ylang Flower, Nootka Wood, Cedarwood, Catnip, Lemon Eucalyptus, Litsea, Arborvitae, Vanilla Bean) on our sheets seems to help. Have no idea what Nootka or Litsea are ;} but maybe you have some cedar and eucalyptus essential oil handy?
Dang, there goes that timer!
Time to prep for T'ai Chi, catch you later.

Betsy - I have limited myself in this volume to the first 9 years of my life. I plan two more volumes, 9 - 20 and 20 - present, though the third will be very difficult as everyone (almost) is still alive and kicking and I don't want to shock the children! My first marriage was very odd and "curdled" and I have stayed friendly with their father. I might have to fictionalise it all and leave everyone guessing as to what is true and what is fiction!
My weigh in this morning was a bit disappointing - only a few ounces down, but it's early days. I really don't want to cut down on food, so have opted for extra exercise, but I may have to.
The planning application for two houses near us has just arrived from the council. It was this projected build that prompted us to consider moving again. DH is right now writing his objections to the planning application and sending them to the council.. It makes us feel better to write a coherent objection. His letter is very good.

Barbara - the original muffin in a cup recipe I used (alas, microwave!) used 100% ground flaxseed meal. I sub about half almond flour and it works fine. Coconut flour needs a lot more liquid so when I add up to 1/3 of that, I add water or just expect a much drier product. The oven-baked muffin you show sounds great and more muffin-like. I'm going to try it with the almond/flaxseed meal combo. Thank you for sharing!!

On spiders. I’m not terribly afraid of them but don’t want the in my house. I posted this pic before, but wanted to do it again with all the spider talk. This was just strutting down the street in front of our camper.

Hi Everyone,
I decided to join in on this thread. I am 50, married with 2 teens of my own and a 3rd not my own living with me. I work full time as well as own a Karate school. I have been around MFP for quite a while now, and usually stay away from general postings because - well you've read them! LOL I am really praying for a real life accountability partner, but so far no luck from that corner, so next best thing is a nice group of ladies.
Anyhow:
December goal was to increase activity and not gain weight. I did not gain weight but did not increase my activity all that much. Not gaining was HUGE accomplishment for me as ever holiday season I usually gorge and gain 5 lbs. This time I ate some of everything that I wanted but I was careful not to overstuff and eat when I was not at all hungry.
January goals:
Lose 4-5 lbs with tracking and exercise (45 lbs total to lose want to lost 0.5-1lb a week eating like a normal person, just cutting out some of the extras and working on my fitness goals).
Go to my Black Belt readiness boot camp training 2 days a week. (Testing for my black belt on Feb 24, 2018) I own a karate school with my husband so training and giving up teaching 2 nights a week is a tight squeeze. So far so good though, trained on W and Th this week.

Hello everyone! I am back from Texas! Yesterday was a Loooong day of travel. DD dropped me off at the airport on her way into work in the morning. My flight wasn't until 2:15; but I had a couple of protein bars and some coffee and a really good book. "You Are A Badass". It is a self help book, about taking control and getting yourself in a better place. Whether it is financially, mentally, physically, etc. I never thought I was a person who needed some one to "tell" me how to get into a better place, but reading this, I realized I get stuck at the part where I have a goal, I make a plan, then I put things off because I am afraid of offending or hurting some one's feelings. I am afraid of dropping one ball. A good book is like a mirror in front of your face. So...my day of travel and airport time, was NOT wasted.
Heather- Sending love and hugs! So proud of you for putting your early life in writing and I find the picture, both lovely and heartbreaking. Sending all kinds of strength to your friend who has decided for a third round of chemo.
Spiders-Most local spiders in Michigan are pretty harmless. I have a rule. If they are outside- they are safe because they have stayed in their home. If they are inside- they are in MY home so all bets are off. If the weather is nice, I will attempt to move them outside. If, however, they drop down to visit while I am having coffee or cooking (they like to drop down out of my light fixtures), they have pretty much signed their own death warrant. While I am not afraid of spiders, I don't like being surprised by them. I tend to react violently when anything or anyone surprises me. (I got my hubby with a nice right hook when he jumped out from behind a door when our power went out a couple years ago).
Interesting thing about black widow spider young- they are white! We do have Northern Black Widows in Michigan. Not as venomous as a Black Widow; but still requires a hospital visit and a shot of antivenin.
Terry -Love your glasses! I wish I could have lasik surgery, but my optometrist has said that it couldn't help me.
Sharon- Sending love and hugs your way!
Karen VA- Did I mention how much I love seeing how Olivia is growing?! So adorable! I also think you need to compose a song about bombogenesis! Sounds like a word that could catch on; you know, like bootylicious?
Hmmmm...more I wanted to reply to, but it has all turned to vapor in my brain. That's what happens when I get 36 hours behind and then find over 150 posts to catch up on. Not to mention, after vacation laundry, house cleaning, and other chores dancing around in my brain... I better get busy.

Rye.... Like your idea of having a variety of soup available for quick healthy lo cal meals. I will have to try to get organized and have some available. On fast days I drink lots of water and tea and usually have oodles of roasted vegetables, especially cauliflower, peppers, celeric root and broccoli. Breakfast is usually steel cut oats with almond milk because it sticks with me all day. Soup would be a nice addition to my fast days.
Heather....smart to plan three parts... and somehow that seems more doable. I think for me it would be enjoyable but probably painful to process through a memoir. The most difficult times are many years past and so it might be good (and safe) to face them in a safe writing environment, for my own growth.
Kelly, welcome and good for you not to gain weight through the holidays. Wish I could claim the same. :-)

Hi ladies,
Got the foot of snow they said, but luckily it was powdery so easy to shovel. But very cold and thought my cheeks would freeze off before I dug a path for the dog to do his thing, make a path to the car and brush off the car. Husband is still sick and offered to do it for me ( he is such a sweetie) but no way I was going to have him do it when he is still sick. Went 30-40 all the way to work as the roads were slippery and there was black ice. Don’t thing I’ll make it back up the driveway tonight until it’s plowed. Going to try and just barrel through it and make it up. If I get stuck, our plow guy with pull me out when he comes to clear the driveway. Ah winter, isn’t it fun…
Katla, Sounds like a wonderful trip your son has planned for you. Don’t worry about the “glitch” happens to me all the time. That’s why I have a spreadsheet with all my codes. I have so many at work and personal that it’s crazy to think we can remember them all.
Grandma, welcome. We are great listeners. Sounds like you have some health issues you are dealing with. It must be hard being on disability and not being able to work. I stop in here every morning to start my day off in a positive way. Stop by anytime and post when you feel you want to.
Wendy, you goals for the year sound very realistic and attainable. Go for it. Good to hear that your phone is being replaced. Phones are like a 3rd hand.
Pam, Glad you came back. I like purple and black together. I really should put more purple in my closet.
Sharon, yes we are your cheerleaders. Can’t you hear our pomp oms? Glad you are taking care of yourself and having a manicure. My DD and I do pedicures once a year and my toes feel so good afterwards. Sending healing thoughts June’s way.
Machka, I hope you got all the spiders. Can you send some of that warm weather this way. lol
Lisa, I’d stay away from a house that flooded before. Do you really want to deal with that if it happens after you buy the house? I’d be scared every time it rained.
Lanette, all your food sounds good but right now I’m thinking warm food. I do use the microwave at work and have the individual Campbell’s tomato soup. I also have a veg burger on flat bread roll.
Heather, tears are good. Never hold them back. Some things are worth crying over many time. ((HUGS)) My mother told us (and my dad) about her uncle when she was in her 70s. We were shocked that she kept it to herself all those years. I think she felt better once she got it out.
Carol, good luck at the drs.
Allie, of course I don’t think worse of you. I think it is wonderful that you have taken him into your home. I’m sure he is to as he is spoiled rotten I’m sure. Lol
Karen, I love having days to myself. Enjoy your time. I think everyone needs them.
Okie, congrats on the weight lose!
Lenora, I can tell by your posts that you are feeling better. Sounds like you are really making headway cleaning and organizing. Good for you!
Brabie, whenever I try to declutter I always ask myself 3 questions; Have I used this in the past year, would I pack this up if I was moving and do I want my DD to have to deal with this after I’m gone? Once I ask those questions it becomes clear what I should get rid of it.
Michele, doing the Snoopy dance for you being off the “overweight” category!
MonsDumpling, welcome. Glad you are back. Tell us a little about yourself and what you want to be called. We are a great source of support and information.
Rye, yes you deserve an award. What a way to start your day. At least you can joke about it.
Heather, glad you friend did grill the dr. She needs all the info in order to make this important decision for herself. And the WhatsApp group must put you mind at ease. Must be hard having seen two sides to your father. I’m sure the predator side overshadows the “wonderful” father side. I don’t think he is a wonderful father just because he had times when he acted that way. He was always a predator.
(((wizzywig)))
Loumoon5, Yes, shivering counts ad exercise as far as I’m concerned. Although MFP doesn’t count it.
Kelley in Michigan, welcome and congrats on the not gaining weight over the holidays.
KJ, gald you are safe and sound back in Texas.
We had no heat here at work until now. I’m always warm so for me to be cold it must be really cold. My boss told me it was fine if I decided to go home early. I work from 8-4:30 so will probably take off about 2.
Got the jump rings I needed to make the bracelet my cousin ordered for his wife for Christmas. Started it last night (help keep my away from food). Should be able to finish it and send it out next week.
Well, back to work. Got to finish up some things before I leave. Everyone in the cold and storm, stay safe.

LOL it is actually self-defense. There are so many vegetables that I just do not find palatable. Some like peppers are so bitter they taste frankly poisonous to me. And cauliflower, boy I’ve tried like that, just taste like dirt to my taste buds.
So if I’m going to get my veggies it is most likely going to be in soup format. There are some like broccoli that I enjoy or at least don’t make me gag. But except for starchy vegetables, the best way to eat vegetables in my opinion is in a delicious soup.5 -
Terry One of the many odd things about me – I love to shovel snow! I have been known to shovel my neighbors walks just for the fun of it.
When we lived in Chicago our landlord live downstairs from us and was in his late 70s. So I took over snow shoveling and my husband took over yard maintenance. Partially to help him out but also because we both genuinely enjoy those things.
OK I’m off to work. See y’all probably tomorrow3 -
Joyce: DH has blood pressure issues, too. He took his BP frequently during the day until he finally got his medications balanced. This was a long process. He has a BP cuff and reader that he ordered from ihealth. He used the information along with his doctor's guidance to adjust medicine doses. I hope that you'll be able to stay in close contact with your doctor until your issues are all sorted out. Good luck.
Allie: Keep photos and other records of things that need fixing. They might help when you are actually negotiating to buy your place.
Becca: I'm sipping mint tea, too. Mine is Celestial Seasonings. I like the tea and the cute packaging.
I had a memory glitch today and couldn't remember my fitness center locker combination. I looked at it on the list and went in an opened it right up, but now I'm fussing about whether I'll remember next time. We'll see how things go tomorrow.
We are planning a trip to see our kids and grandkids. It involves a stop in illinois and another in Virginia. Our son is acting as our travel agent. He has all the flights set up, and all we need to do is pay for them. It is nice to be molly coddled now and then.

Toasting to our friendship with a large mug of Super Mint Stash tea! With the combination thing, just make it easy on yourself and write it on the back of one of their business cards and keep it in your wallet. Sometimes worrying about things that might happen can be stress enough, where your brain does that.
Excited for you, on your upcoming trio to see your kids and grandkids!

First thing I did when I got home was to vacuum the whole area. I sucked up 2 or 3 more spiders I hadn't relocated last night. They looked like teenagers. I also got 2 or 3 more babies. Hopefully that's all of them. There was A LOT of cobweb and that's all gone now.
M in Oz
I admit to being kind to spiders, always taking the relocation option when possible. But I hope to never become so familiar with them that I can identify them as babies, teenagers and adults!
That is something I find amazing.
I am kind of guessing based on size. The newborns are tiny dots you'd hardly even recognise as anything alive. They're easy to overlook. Then they get slightly bigger and you can identify the little legs and see them crawling up and down the wall, but you'd probably still think "what on earth is that?" ... I'm guessing that's the toddler phase. The little ones in my bedroom were slightly larger than that when I first noticed them, and identifiable as a "tiny spider" ... probably at the age they're about ready to start school.
Then they seem to grow remarkably quickly! The "teenagers" were about 1/3 the size of the mom. Dad is likely smaller, but mom was huge ... one of the biggest pholcus phalangioides I've seen. Her body was a decent size but from the tip of one leg to the tip of the next on the other side was getting on for 4 inches. Dad may have been the carcass on the floor which I vacuumed up. I'm not sure if mom eats dad or not.
Some people want to get rid of all the spiders, but a lot of people (like me) like to keep these around because they help to keep other pests down. So we've got a pholcus phalangioides in each room and I really don't mind them ... I just don't want an entire family in my bedroom where I'm sleeping, and specifically ... not on the bed!!
M in Oz
Oh see I know those spiders!! The body isn't really intimidating. We used to have a bit of a ecosystem going at our home in Vacaville CA. We had the gecko lizards that lived in the wall of our garage, and sunroom. The boys sleeping room had one spider in the upper corner of their closet, and one spider below their sink by a corner baseboard. His name was Bob. I kept track of every bug, sometimes their webs would get big enough where I yelled *Really??? " and would knock them down to a more manageable size. The pest control companies would knock on my door asking if they needed our service and I would tell them Mother Nature's got it covered! If I sprayed, I would've pissed off one layer or another! My son found a baby gecko lizard in their shower which he gently removed.

Allie, my parents pre-planned and it was the best gift ever for me! I am an only child and it would have been overwhelming. Mom went first, so I did have Dad there for help, although he was a bit of a wreck, but he was there. When Dad went, I already sort of knew the drill, so it was a bit easier. DH and I pre-planned and pre-paid everything so our kids don't have to deal with it either. As someone once said to me "It's the last gift we give to our kids". So true.2
-
Machka, I had to google the spider name and when I saw it, I went "okay, maybe in some rooms, but definitely NOT the bedroom!!"
Heather, Hugs! I don't know your story, but kind of figured out the basics.

Played mahjongg, didn't maj but that's OK. They usually go out to lunch afterwards and I really wasn't keen on going to lunch so I was glad that I had a good excuse -- Vince needed me to help take down some of the ornaments off the trees. Came home and took some of the ornaments off the tree.
Welcome everyone new!
M - boy, there's a lot of foods that doesn't sit well with you. What about those jello cups? They have the vanilla pudding in the individual servings.
loumoon - I certainly count shivering as burning calories keeping my body warm. It's probably not a lot of calories, but every little bit helps
Barbara - I say you should add time to that timer!!!
All these pictures and talk of spiders reminds me of Halloween....lol
KJ - welcome back! Congrats on not gaining. That's so hard to do.
Talk about a mystery. This year I put some strung popcorn that we didn't use downstairs. I went to look for it this morning and the bag was completely empty, but the 2 safety pins that I used were attached to the bag. Vince didn't take it out. There wasn't a hole in the bag so a mouse didn't get in (besides, even the string was gone). I don't know what happened to it.
With this talk about soup, I'm thinking that I might make some today if I have the ingredients in the house.
Terry - spreadsheet, that reminds me that I want to make a spreadsheet of the DVD's that I have
Allie - I'd never think worse of you. You have such a big heart, it's great that you're sharing it. I know you miss the dogs so now you have one of your own to love. He's so lucky
Terry - can you bring a blanket with you to work?
Rye - when you took over the shoveling/yard work, were you compensated?
Michele in NC
who is off to make that spreadsheet

Hi Gals,
Heather - When you know the story, the picture is telling - I am in awe of you tackling this with only a few tears! You have come so far and done so much, the growth from that little girl to the amazing strong happy woman we know is breathtaking.
So I thought I’d share a bit about my holiday, as I had not been on line much during the season… I did have a fun one although super different and really did not seem much like Christmas, the family I gather with did not do any of the things I associate with Christmas at that home, no gifts, no group game, no Christmas movie, not even a single traditional food (for this group) at dinner….So while it was nice, everyone got along and smiled, it might have well been just any other gathering. Has me thinking about the importance (maybe over importance) of tradition to me. I have not really drilled down on this but it keeps crossing my mind. I like a few others of us walk the dog every morning, and I find I do my best thinking then while listening to the birds wake up and sing in the day.
New Years was Christmas with my mom. She spends 12/25 with my brother, I choose not to spend much time with him, especially the emotionally charged time of a holiday. So New Years was on the quiet side, but we did stay up to wish 2018 in.
I heard a pod cast from a food program about resolutions, and they twisted it to which food would you eat MORE of in 2018 and why. This appealed to me, and listening to the things they came up with was interesting. I almost never make resolutions, but I found myself thinking about this and came up with one of my own, So in 2018 my goal is to eat more from the grocery store, and the garden – similar to other goals of mine, but with a more positive twist… so less low end restaurant junk, and make the occasional restaurant meal more special.
Smiles
Kim from N. California

Kim I like your goal of eating more from garden and home cooked food, rather than mass produced or restaurant choices. I too am adding greens, and working with my pantry and freezer. One week so far, and I've greatly reduced grocery spending, restaurant spending is 0 so far.
NYKAREN5 -
Hi Kim, nice to hear from you! Strange how other people's habits and rituals never quite fit with ours. I remember my son being horrified when his girlfriend's parents didn't pull the crackers until the end of the Christmas dinner. It was compulsory for our family to pull them at the beginning and wear the silly paper hats throughout the meal. I've tried having food other than tutkey/goose and all the trimmings at Christmas, but it never quite works. You just have to go with the flow.
We are going to have our usual Burn's Night on the 25th Jan. Actually it's my favourite entertaining occasion of the year, because all you have to do is warm up a bought haggis and make some mashed potatoes and mashed rutabaga - (tatties and neeps) I have taken to making a whisky sauce as well. We do all the ritual of "piping in the haggis" with some bagpipe music and reciting the "Ode to the Haggis" and plunging the dagger into it. We all wear stupid tartan hats (Wee Jimmy hats with ginger hair)and have a tartan runner on the table etc. None of us are Scottish! My brother and his wife are coming and DH's cricket friend and his wife. It is traditional to toast the haggis with whisky, of which we have a choice of eight, but my brother and his wife are on a Dry January!!! Oh well, we will still have a great time. I hope we will play my new 5 Second Rule game.
The day after I am up to London for the SingalongaSoundofMusic. So I mustn't have too much whisky!
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx7 -
Rita, YIKES!! Would not like that spider anywhere near me!
Heather, hugs, just because....
Louise, sure hope the repairman gets to and gets the heat going! Shivering should count as exercise! Also, your employer should not be forcing you to work if the temp goes down to a certain point. Cold toes are NOT fun, I always seem to take a really long time to warm up if my feet get cold....
Machka, have you tried lactaid treated milk? I have some lactose intolerance and can't use regular milk much at all, but I found, and use, the lactaid treated stuff quite successfully. That won't help with gallbladder issues or nut allergies, but it might help you have cereal again.
Rye, I agree with Terry, you definitely deserve an award for the day starting out the way it did! And I'm with you on the veggies in soup. I do like a lot of veggies, love cauliflower for instance, but don't like a lot of them raw, so putting them in soup is such a good idea. I have vegetable soup a minestrone in the freezer, in 3 serving containers, so it's enough for one week of work (I only work 3 days a week). I sometimes will take some out, take leftovers to work a few days and have soup at home, it's just so nice to have something quick and easy, that is warm too!
Allie, why would we think less of you for getting a puppy???? I think you deserve someone sweet to come home to and you've given Alfie the most precious gift - a "people" of his very own who will care for and love him!
Today has been a good day, so far. Had leftover chicken and veggies with quinoa for lunch and have some grapes and more veggies for snacks if I get hungry later. I had a bit of a graze last night, but with no chocolate in the house (YAY) I had to settle for some "fruit" snacks gummy things. I do like them and they are fairly lo-cal, so don't really feel guilty, but I do need to brush my teeth right after dinner tonight! Went to the gym before work this a.m., was slow getting out the door, so only had time for 30 min on the elliptical trainer, but I figure that's better than nothing! That's it for me for now, hope everyone has a great day!

My friends, I haven't made time to read but am thinking of you. With temps in the 30’s and less, we are keeping the big kids inside. This means I've been sleeping on the couch to be down stairs with them. We keep a heater in the garage for them but it is just too cold,. I hope you are all staying warm and safe. Just know I'm thinking of you.

Becca - several years ago, my neighbor's husband died of Alzheimers, at home. When he passed, a hospice nurse came (or maybe she was already there) and called the "body snatchers" who came up from Portland within about 8 hours and picked him up. His cremains were sent back to my neighbor in a month or two as I recall. We are considering doing the same.

My grandmother (on my Mom's side) and my Uncle's wife (on my Dad's side) both donated their bodies to science. In both cases their cremains were returned about 12 months later. The only down side (for me) was in my grandmother's case, we had to go through the memorial service when she died and then a year later rip the band-aid off our grief when we had a graveside service to inter her cremains next to my grandfather. I didn't live close by so I didn't attend my Uncle's wife's graveside.

Kelly Ha! Bombogenesis song lyrics...my brain is going to work overtime on that one. Could be to the tune of Frère Jacques or perhaps to Plop Plop Fizz Fizz...NYKaren, any ideas on bombogenesis tunes? (Would be really funny if it was to a classical tune.)
Heather Hauntingly beautiful photo. It deeply saddens me that an otherwise wonderful man betrayed your trust & robbed you of your innocence. So murky, those waters.
On a lighter note, Burn's Night sounds positively horrid, LOL! Haggis. yucky yucky

Another frigid evening here. I think it is 17 and feels like 5. Well at least we are above 0 and I am inside a nice warm house with my pick f 2 cats to be on my lap. Sometimes they both try to be on my lap at the same time but it doesn't work out.
Blood pressure is still to high. Bedtime really raises it, not sure why. I am to call the office Mnday and give an update. The blood pressure cuff I bought has an app that you sync your cuff to your phone! So now. Don't have to write down all these readings when I see him on the 10th. I just give him my phone!!!!!!! I just wish there was a place I could make notes such as what medicine I took. I think I am going to run out of the medicine he ordered while. Was in the hosptial for me to take 4 times a day for reading greater than 150. My husband is gon to flip.
I can't imagine having that many allergies or tolerances to food. My body loves food, any kind of food.

I use eucalyptus in there regularly for dust mites, so I was a bit surprised to read that it was supposed to ward off spiders. It is almost as though they like it. But then again, maybe Australian spiders are used to eucalyptus.
