@megblair1 & @auntiebk ...
The Data Analytics course I'm taking next week is the third one is a set of four to acquire my Graduate Diploma. When I get my Graduate Diploma, I will be half way to a Masters in Information and Communication Technology.
Although we don't specifically choose a specialty in this Masters, I do have a choice of subjects I take, and so I'm making my specialty to be all things 'database'. My first two courses were Knowledge Management and Database Management. This is Data Analytics, and the fourth will be eLogistics - basically getting data to those who need it to make decisions.
My work and educational background is quite varied, but I keep ending up in this area ... data ... and so I finally figured, "why fight it" and decided to get my Masters in this area!wildhorsewendy wrote: »Machka, how fascinating. There certainly is an overload of data available, but making sense of all the information...especially when it seems conflicting, that's the hard part. You will be learning some valuable skills!
Yes ... my director, manager, and a more senior colleague are all quite pleased I'm taking this course. They don't mind my other courses, which are all related, but this is one of the ones specifically related to what I do at work, and they'd like to get me into doing a whole lot more!! It's the main reason why my employer is willing to let me take these courses during work time.

I taught this class a few years ago when "big data" term was just starting to be a thing. Will you be using SQL or some other data management software?
RV Rita in Columbus NM
Evidently I'll be using R. That was a new one to me, so I've had to look it up!
There will, no doubt, be some SQL involved. The Data Management course I took last semester was all PL/SQL and SQL with Oracle. At work we use SQL Server so it's slightly different and a co-worker has started to teach me all about our systems and the queries we use here.

Have all my husbands tea by the side counter, (where they used to be awhile ago), next to the oven. Also have mine out in tins. Trying to make life easier, but I tend to go all out! At least I don't have a cleaning bug, but it should hit me any day now! At least I don't rearrange the furniture! Dear husband hated when I did that!

So ... what were you doing at 1:30 am?
Me ... I was relocating 5 spiders from on my bed and around my night stand.
Mom spider must have had babies the other day. The night before last I noticed a lot of web between the night stand and the wall and all the way up the wall, with 2 or 3 babies amongst it and thought I might have to get in there with a vacuum cleaner. Last night, they were decent-sized spiders.
I don't mind spiders but I prefer not to have them wandering around my head when I'm sleeping.4 -
Just checking in. Caught up reading but too tired to respond. Been to Y three days in a row and am enjoying it so far.

RATS! Just lost post. Oh well, I was saying that I have a 'terminal case of arachnophobia and I would be 'dead' if I saw spiders in my bedroom. Of course, I have had a bite of two that were spider bites and knew it as soon as I was bitten. Very painful. Mama spider(s) with babies ... I don't think so.
Well, during the purge of my bathroom some of the stuff I wanted to save were thrown out (either by me, more likely than not; or by my sister). Oh well, don't need it now, can't afford to buy it to replace it either.
Working on the 2nd bedroom ... closet down, spring and summer tops moved to it and DYS's baseball collection put in the locker and a storage box. I am amazed that he saved them over a 6 or 7 year span and has as many as he does ... over 7800 and that does not include 6 or 7 box sets. Louis promised that we'd store them here until they have a house and somewhere to put them. Sister had said, they needed to be mailed to him. That would cost a small fortune and I could not insure something that is irreplaceable. So I am with Louis ... they stay. But, rearranging the closet has certainly made a big difference.
I feel for y'all going through the mega-snowstorm. I could not do that. Seeing all the people shoving snow and thinking, 'oh why ... it is only going to freeze when the back winds hit it. Of course, 60" of snow would have sent me screaming to move to FL. Now I know why there are so many 'snowbirds'. I'd move even if I had to have a string strung up so I could walk on the boardwalk. It is very cold down here in SW GA ... 20's ... it has been miserable.
Allie - Are you saying that Tom expects you to pay for something at his place [or is it something at your new place]? I would not agree to that under any set of circumstances. Has he lost his mind?
Cracker has been in-and-out several times all day. When she comes in, she runs straight to her bed to warm up. Tux has been sitting at the door and tries to come in the second the door is opened. He stays under the house near a heat vent.
Well, it is now time for me to turn off my laptop and get calm before bedtime.

Not all divorces go as planned ... DDnL#1 had a friend whose husband divorced her (thought she was having an affair ... which might have been true, don't know); but, he makes about $75K and she hasn't made more than $25K in the jobs she is qualified for. He got custody of their child and she was 'ordered' to pay $250 in child support. So it doesn't really matter about the difference in pay ... she was ordered to pay about 17% of her gross income (actually less) according the the scale used by the court to determine the amount, based on several factors. Child wanted to stay with his Dad because he can buy him anything his little heart desires. Last Christmas (not this past one) he spent about $2500 on Christmas for him and $0 on her son from a previous marriage. I'm sorry; but, when you marry someone and they have children, I think you should not discriminate. This kid is a spoiled rotten little brat.1

It happens ... but usually in places like the bathroom or laundry room. All of a sudden a wall will be covered with little black baby spiders. Then a bunch disappear (I think they eat each other) and then a few go marching off to other parts of the house.
If it looks like a white tail might have procreated, I'll spray them all with RAID and clean it up, but these ones weren't particularly dangerous.
Nevertheless, I will be doing some vacuuming in that corner tonight. I just vacuumed there about 2 or 3 weeks ago and it was all clear, but these are very prolific web builders and the whole area is just thick with what I suppose was the mating and nesting webs.
And for some weird reason the area near where I sleep seems to attract the spiders. About 2 or 3 months ago, I was getting ready for bed, and happened to glance at my tissue box. Something looked odd about the tissue sticking out the box. I took a closer look ... and there was a huntsman! I capture and relocated it right quick! Can you imagine if I'd grabbed a tissue in the middle of the night and if the huntsman were to walk up my arm or drop onto my face!! Don't mind spiders ... but don't like them on me!
Then about a month later, I woke up with what sort of looked like two or three bites on one leg. Almost like mosquito bites, but mosquitoes weren't around yet. The next night I flipped back the bed clothes, and spotted a dead spider which I brushed out of the bed. It was actually a couple days later that I put two and two together ... the sores on my leg + the spider in my bed. It took a long time for those sores/bites to heal.
Maybe I need to look at putting out bars of soap or peppermint oil or something around the bedroom.

Did a body pump DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do Bob Harper's Inside Out DVD
Terry - I don't even want to THINK about the piles when the plows come by! Yikes is right!!
M - good luck in your course. I'm sure we won't be seeing much of you during that time. But that's OK, we'll know that you are fine. Good luck on your run, too. I know this sounds hokey, but what about a PJ&J sandwich. That doesn't involve refrigeration. Can you get those packages of tuna or sardines? I'm thinking of things that I keep at the condo since our refrigeration is very limited. The small packages of cereal. Then can you get the small cartons of milk? They don't require refrigeration. You can take cereal, the milk, and a piece of fruit with you. I keep jerky available. OK -- another thing that sounds really dumb, what about those individual servings of baby food (I usually get the carrots and the dish of green beans -- foods babies can pick up)? Will they work? I know there are baby food meals (Gerber graduates here) but I don't know if they require a microwave or not. I would think so.
Wendy - I wouldn't think that Terry would have many icy roads. I remember when we lived in the Poconos. It sometimes would really snow but many times it was so cold that the snow never melted.
Right after the holiday the Wii put me in the overweight category. Not bad, but still.... I've been losing some the past few days, now I'm only 2oz away from the nomal weight. I'm getting there.
Penny - Jess went to visit with someone she met online. He lived in TN. Thank goodness she didn't tell me because I would have been a wreck. However, now 10 years later they're still good friends
Sharon - When I read about Larry's turn around, I'm wondering if he couldn't have some sort of personality disorder
Volunteered at the Green Room today. When I went to turn on my tablet to read a book, it was at 0% charge. Yesterday, I left it in the car (in the cold) so that ran the battery down. Oh well....
Score! The ginger cookies are out of the house, I gave the corn muffins to Lynette, so that's something else out of the house.
Lisa - that was one of the funniest things we learned about NC. When we first moved here, it snowed, the grass was still sticking up from the snow. Well, being from PA Vince just brushed his car off to go to his MD appt. As he was driving there, he realized that he was the only one on the road. When he got to the doctor's office, there was no one there. Fortunately, his MD was there so he was able to have his appt. It's something how just the word "snow" shuts things down. The people around here don't know how to drive in the snow, so it's probably a blessing that they aren't on the road
Have a question: on the bottom of the post is "like" "inspiring" "insiteful" etc. How can you find out the names of the people who "liked" your post?
Terry - great readers!
Welcome everyone new!
Wendy - thanks for reminding me that I forgot to put cinnamon in my breakfast for tomorrow. Gonna go do that right now.

Joyce: DH has blood pressure issues, too. He took his BP frequently during the day until he finally got his medications balanced. This was a long process. He has a BP cuff and reader that he ordered from ihealth. He used the information along with his doctor's guidance to adjust medicine doses. I hope that you'll be able to stay in close contact with your doctor until your issues are all sorted out. Good luck.
Allie: Keep photos and other records of things that need fixing. They might help when you are actually negotiating to buy your place.
Becca: I'm sipping mint tea, too. Mine is Celestial Seasonings. I like the tea and the cute packaging.
I had a memory glitch today and couldn't remember my fitness center locker combination. I looked at it on the list and went in an opened it right up, but now I'm fussing about whether I'll remember next time. We'll see how things go tomorrow.
We are planning a trip to see our kids and grandkids. It involves a stop in illinois and another in Virginia. Our son is acting as our travel agent. He has all the flights set up, and all we need to do is pay for them. It is nice to be molly coddled now and then.

Machka I would not be able to do what you do with spiders, I am a confirmed arachnophobe! If they are outside, I'm okay with live and let live (wasn't always!!) but if they make it into the house.... they will get vacuumed up or whacked with a shoe or slipper or something. DH thought we had a black widow living in the garage, I looked at it too, it was upside down so we could see it's belly. Weren't entirely sure but a few days later he said he had given it a shot of raid. I was okay with that, although it turns out, upon closer examination, it may not have been a black widow. Oh well, it was technically inside......
Allie, good luck with the condo. Your landlord sounds like a bit of a jacka$$. Isn't it his responsibility for things to be up to code in a rental unit?
Need to get up and get the dishwasher emptied, get the kitchen tidied and mix some cookie dough. I am having friends over Monday afternoon and since I work all weekend and have an exercise class Monday morning, I thought I would mix them today and then bake them when I get home from the class. Can't get much fresher than that! They are a refrigerator cookie, so putting the dough in the fridge for a few days is perfect!

Thanks for the nice comments about my readers.
Machka, nope no fan of spiders!
When I got divorced the child support was based on salary as well as the amount of time the child spent with the parent. When DD wanted to change to 50/50 the court drastically cut back my child support because my ex had to then provide her with a room like I did. Ended up getting $15/week. Then right before Christmas he took me back to court because he didn’t want to pay that. I won of course. Judge said if he was that hard up for money he could get a part time job for the holidays. He had just bought a $30,000 car and taken DD to Disney world . He was also living with his girlfriend who was pretty much paying for everything. Told him the best thing he ever did for me was to leave me.
Welcome to you newbies.
1ft of snow so far and still snowing. Wonder if I’ll get be going to work tomorrow. DH feeling better. Hope I don’t catch the flu from him. And we both had our flu shots this year . Guess he caught the type that wasn’t in the shot.
Well ready to grab my book. Get to start a new one tonight. I love that.

Welcome, you've come to the right place. I start my day with writing in a gratitude journal to get my mind going in a positive way. I eat the same breakfast every day so I don't waste energy making decisions. Then I meditate. My inspiration for meditation was a book by Dan Harris called "10% Happier". About the only thing you can do wrong here is to make partisan religious or political comments. Otherwise we talk about almost everything else.

I've got John West tuna and crackers, and also the crackers and cheese packets. I picked up a box of 5 granola protein bars ... I've used those ones before (couple years ago) while cycling and didn't mind them. They are 200 calories each, so they'd better be filling! If I like them, I'll get another box. I'll also bring a banana each day and maybe some other fruit.
I know I can buy toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches there, which I might do on one or two days. But I'd rather not do that too often. And I might just make and bring my own cheese and tomato sandwich.
I have access to boiling water ... so I could also bring noodle soup, but that's pretty high in calories too. But of course I'll bring my tea.

Regarding spiders ... I'm fine with them everywhere but on me. I've mentioned my hair before ... I have this thing about spiders and flying insects getting stuck in it.
And while I can capture and relocate a spider, large flying insects have me hiding under the table!!

Hi Gals,
Well I finally logged in from my lap top where reading and responding is easier than on my phone, and 313 posts and 2 .5 hours later, I realized I have read this more like a novel and taken almost no notes… I’m thinking of you all, cheering and hugs are flying around the world from GodMomKim in CA… all take care!
I’ll write more tomorrow, I really need to sleep! I just was amazed at a few of you with very limited sleep time; I’m an 8 hour gal! I can do 7, but 8 means I am a organized, nice person… I do not like myself on less than 7 hours.
Karen in San Jose, CA – welcome, I’m just up the road
Lanette – The Good Earth ---- wow I had not thought of that in years! I need to re-read it.
Wendy – are you comfortable microwaving water? (I know some folks who are not) but if you are maybe you could find some items that you could just add hot water too that would work for lunch…

Kim, no I don't own a microwave at home and I don't use the one at work. Microwaved water kills plants so it can't be good for the human body. Women are made up 55% of water! And I am sure the waves that leak from them are really bad for you. Allie, don't use yours with cracks in it! That's even worse.
But I can use the electric kettle at work to boil water, so I can take soup or noodles, though I try to avoid noodles. I do LIKE noodles especially with cheese on them, but they make me heavy. I also love crackers but also think they are fattening. Mainly because I can't just eat a few... I will probably just take mixed nuts, sunflower seeds and fruit. If I get organized I will boil some eggs and bake some potatoes to take and mix into a green salad. That is my ideal lunch: salad with egg and potato. If I am cold I like Soup and Toast. I love toasted sandwhiches but I think bread is fattening so I try to resist. When I eat bread or rice or pasta, I think my body must hang on to water and my weight just goes up on the scales. My food diary and daily weighing has proved this to be true for me. I know nuts and seeds can be fattening but I can't actually eat lots and lots as my full button gets switched on after a bit.
This year my goal is to hit my preferred weight and maintain it, rather than yo yo all year long, as has been my pattern! The amount of exercise I do makes little difference to me. I know it's my diet I must address and change habits. So changing my eating out lunch pattern is one place to start. What changes are you'all thinking of making this year?

Apparently that's not true ... as long as you let the water cool before you pour it on the plants.
But a cracked or broken microwave is dangerous.

Machka, no matter what statement anyone makes, it will be immediately contradicted. Fasting is good for you. Fasting is bad for you. Meat is good for you. Meat is bad for you. DATA is overwhelming. LOL. We all must make decisions about what we believe to be true, and what makes logical sense to our own self. Nuking the enzymes, cells and molecules of my food and water in a microwave doesn't make it past my Truth Sensor as being okay. But everyone will believe what they choose to and that is okay with me too. LOL
I am HAPPY right now as my insurance has just confirmed they will replace my stolen phone. YAYE!

Back again, went shopping after work, had a look at a couple of clothes shops, nothing appealed, then went into Lincraft and they had a sheer stretch fabric I liked the colours of, and a black and purple woven sheer I also liked at fairly steep discounts, so I got both, will make one of those floaty overlay over tighter lining tops and im thinking the purple and black will look good as an overlay over a black skirt

Terry, Allie, Becca and all the rest - Thanks you for your support.
We have no joint Credit Cards. This is as much my decision as his.
I will figure this out. I have all you ladies cheering me on to peace and happiness.
Michele - Do I think there are Mental Health Problems. Oh yes, I do .
What's the chances? His Dad was addicted to prescription drugs. Able to get away with it for years before everything was connected by computers. 6 towns, 6 doctors.
Son diagnosed as manic/depressive. Granddaughter has borderline personality disorder.
Rye- Never thought of adding the cinnamon to the grounds.
My morning coffee has cinnamon, vanilla and milk. I am thinking of adding a little turmeric.
My brother reminded me of someone that used to come visit when Larry was drinking. He even told us his name - Jack. The times that Jack appeared, the voice was different even the facial actions were different. He was not nice and once told us that he had a secret that was seven years old. My brother said it was one of the weirdest things he had ever experienced.
I am trying to find the positive in each day. Today it would be chatting with Larry's cousin June on line. She has an aggressive form of mylemo. It has been a long year and a half for her. First they gave her chemo to get her blood in the acceptable range. They harvested stem cells from her. A process that almost killed her and had her in the hospital for 12 days. They then did chemo which again landed her in hospital for 10 days then they gave her back her stem cells. She had to have some booster chemo? Now she is feeling better but catching things easily. They have put her on maintenance for now. She will receive a chemo injection every 2 weeks for the next 2 years. This should extend her life but really they don't know or what quality her life will be. She is grateful that she was able to have this Christmas with her 3 kids. She is such a brave woman. I love June.
I went for a manicure today. This is one of those luxuries that I am not sure I will be able to maintain.
Early morning again tomorrow. Around 1 my niece is going to come and we are going to tackle Project Kitchen Organization. Wish us luck. I am going to tackle one room at a time. We can skip the living room except for the cabinet where my CDS?DVDS are stored.
The water was running in the street in places. We should stay warm for about another week. Thinking of all of you who are experiencing the snow and cold.

First thing I did when I got home was to vacuum the whole area. I sucked up 2 or 3 more spiders I hadn't relocated last night. They looked like teenagers. I also got 2 or 3 more babies. Hopefully that's all of them. There was A LOT of cobweb and that's all gone now.

I admit to being kind to spiders, always taking the relocation option when possible. But I hope to never become so familiar with them that I can identify them as babies, teenagers and adults!
That is something I find amazing.3 -
Morning, all...
Do love working for a company where I work 4 days on/3 days off. Every 3-day weekend feels like, well, a 3-day weekend! LOL... We had planned to take the little one with us and go walk through a house we found south of us... but also just found out it's been flooded before, which I find a little unnerving. It's a great price, but now, of course, we know why. Still thinking about it.
Won't go anyway, as both kids are now going to be home. School's canceled once again this morning, don't even know why. The base is on a late opening though, so our daughter will take care of the kids' breakfast, etc., and my hubby can sleep in. I did already, didn't get up until 5:15!
Got some writing to do... and once the hubby gets up, will find a video on Amazon Prime and work out. My monitor is only ten feet away from the bed, and while he can sleep through me typing, pretty sure he can't sleep through an exercise video!
Love y'all,

One of my favorite work lunches or snacks would be a piece of fruit (apple, orange, or container of blueberries) and a low-carb muffin made with almond flour/ground flax seeds/dab of coconut flour, egg and baking powder. It's only a little over 200 calories and would stick with me! Sometimes I'd add a spoon of yogurt to thin it out and add a few drops of honey or maple syrup for sweetener unless I want a savory one, in which case I might stir in a tsp of grated parmesan. There are recipes on the internet for "muffin in a cup" - pretty much the same thing.
Also, cold bean & rice or quinoa salads.
And, a "yogurt parfait" - layer into a small container 1/3 c or so of applesauce, then 1/2 oz or so of chopped walnuts, then 1/3 to 1/2 c plain yogurt (I used full fat organic) then top it off with a handful of small berries, cherries, etc. I use frozen fruit when not in season. I didn't mind the yogurt being unsweetened when stirred with the berries and applesauce (also unsweetened since I made it myself from our own apples), but plenty of natural sweetness).
I still make these foods a lot and keep them in the fridge.
