Unable to lose weight with calorie deficit

The people that have weight problems have been taking advice from the wrong people their whole lives!! Their diets have been flawed listening to people that have read an article or went to a weight management or weight loss clinic!! And their suffering always trying to loose weight by starving themselves!! An animal in the wild doesn’t do that and doesn’t count calories and doesn’t get fat!! They eat the diet they were meant to eat!! The meat and dairy industry has convinced you that you need to consume animals! You don’t!! But go ahead and worry about your weight ! You’ll always be fighting to keep from getting fat and sick!! Vegans that
eat a whole food low fat diet ! Not a vegan who mock meats and processed oils ! Will not get fat!! I’ve never seen one!!30 -

1. Yeah, because they have to run down their food... Or run away from the guy who wants to eat them. And in what imaginary world do you live in where animals don't eat animals in the wild?
2. LOL, I bet Jane has.7 -
The people that have weight problems have been taking advice from the wrong people their whole lives!! How do you know this? You've talked with every overweight person ever?
Their diets have been flawed listening to people that have read an article or went to a weight management or weight loss clinic!! People can be overweight and eat "healthy" stuff.
And their suffering always trying to loose weight by starving themselves!! Again, you've talked with everyone who has ever tried a diet?
An animal in the wild doesn’t do that and doesn’t count calories and doesn’t get fat!! Yeah, fighting for survival will do that to ya.
They eat the diet they were meant to eat!! Which isn't vegan.
The meat and dairy industry has convinced you that you need to consume animals! Seriously?!?
You don’t!! You're right, I don't. But, mmmmm, steak!
But go ahead and worry about your weight ! I don't worry about my weight. I understand CICO and know exactly what I need to do to maintain the weight I prefer.
You’ll always be fighting to keep from getting fat and sick!! No, I won't.
Vegans that
eat a whole food low fat diet ! What?!?
Not a vegan who mock meats and processed oils ! Will not get fat!! I’ve never seen one!! You've seen every vegan ever?
You aren't convincing anyone. Science does not agree with your statements.
If you prefer a vegan lifestyle, that is fine. But it isn't for everyone, and it has nothing to do with weight loss.
Question: Do you believe calories are made-up? Just checking.

Omnivores in the sense that they have a wide variety of foods to choose from which they can sustain themselves on, sure. Omnivore in the sense that they have to eat every food they can possibly survive on, not so much.

OP I use Rudolph's sandwich bread and all the slices LOOK the same. On the package it says 110cal/40g slice. I challenge myself to find one less than 60g... more often they're 65g. That's 1.5x the calories for ONE slice. You need a food scale end of story7

OP, sorry your thread has been hijacked! You are barely overweight, so progress is going to be slow. You can set your goal to 1 lb per week if you want, but it's not realistic to think you will see that 1 lb come off on the scale every week. You have very little margin for error and losses of less than 1 lb can easily hide behind water weight fluctuations.
Get a food scale, and commit to using it for as much as you possibly can (whole foods, packaged foods, fruit, peanut butter, snacks, nibbles, condiments) for at least 4-6 weeks. You will probably probably find calories that you were missing.
And understand that you will have weeks where you don't lose anything or maybe even temporarily gain a little weight. Water weight can fluctuate several lbs from one week to the next. Just have faith in the process and patience.
I started at 5'4" 145 lbs and I simply didn't want to eat under 1500 cals so I ended up losing around 1 lb per month. I'm not saying it will go that slow for you, but you might have a month here or there where that happens and it's perfectly normal. Hang in there and good luck!9 -

I didn’t say no fat!! How much fat do you think that you need!! It’s way below what Americans eat!!! That’s why we’re the fattest unhealthist country in the world!!! And I wouldn’t take any advice from anyone that ever had a weight problem!! Why did they gain weight!! They weren’t born that way!! Their parents fed them an unhealthy diet that they continue till today!! I’ve never had a weight problem!! I don’t consume any animal products!! Haven’t since I was 20 my wife I’d also Vegan!! Even after 2 kids and 25 years later she has not ever gained more then 5 lbs except of course when she was carrying. And that was water weight!
If you haven't ever had a weight problem, than how did you lose 40 lbs since October?15 -

I am using measuring cups mostly. and fruits i enter from the database based on size medium etc
rice i measure in measuring cups and enter that. other packaged foods directly from the nutrition details on the labels, i enter that.
To add perspective, I used to do that when I first started, than I found out I was under counting my calories, what I thought were 80 calorie bananas, where actually 150.. something I thought was 200 calories of peanut butter, was actually over 300... So multiple that by all my foods, and it quickly added up.4 -
Peanut butter is probably the worst. You've got to be super diligent with measuring for 2T to be 32g. It's usually more like 40-60g which is no longer 1 serving.3

Nuts too.. what I thought was 30g of nuts, turned out to be 45 to 60g...0 -

This made me sad the first time I weighed out pb I love pb and used to smother my toast in it (I have been known to eat it straight from the jar) I've got used to 32g split between one toastie thin which are only 100cals1 -

thank you so much for the motivation.
Didnt expect my first post to cause so much activity haha.
Just to clarify i am 165lbs now. (down from 171lbs).
146 lbs was my pre-pregnancy weight which is my goal. Seems like a long way ahead.
Also calorie restriction is new to me , so im struggling with it.2 -

Excellent and very insightful question. Why would you need to lose 40 pounds if you "never had a weight problem"?
For context:

http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/comment/41402376/#Comment_41402376I’m vegan and eat mostly carbs! Just started MFP! I lost close to 40 lbs since October 1st when I went from a vegetarian diet to vegan! I eat close to 3 thousand calories a day and still lost weight by keeping my fat below 20 percent of my calories!

So your saying that I counted my calories perfectly over the past year!! My weight hadn’t fluctuated even a lb!! I only started to track my food a week ago, only tracking for my macros! I weighed 195 lbs last year January, and this January as I only weigh myself once a year at my yearly physical!! CICO is not true!! Your weight should not fluctuate if you eat Whole Foods such as grains vegetable fruits nuts and seeds! Eat fat get fat!! It’s not how much you eat , it’s what your eating that’s goi g to determine your health and weight!! Keep dieting and keep starving!! Or eat right and stay healthy and slim, your choice!! The definition of insanity is doubt the same thing all your life and expecting a different result!!
I really didn't want to continue this whole hijacking OP's thread, but this seriously must be the best post I have read here in quite a while. It's just so pure troll, it might be the etalon of trolling.
To OP: get a food scale as people have said above. There isn't such thing as "an average medium apple." There is however 100 gr of apple...5 -

Oh, okay. So you're trying to lose 20 lbs, still 1 lb per week but more likely to see it a little more consistently on the scale. I know it might seem silly, but the food scale is such a big deal. I found I was eating 200-400 cals more daily than I thought I was when I wasn't using it. Just remember weight loss isn't linear, but you'll get there4 -
OP I hate to ask this TMI but are you constipated at all? Because not going means that you’re causing some inside body damage which can lead to bad things. One thing you can do is make sure you have pre- & pro-biotics like kefir, yogurt, filmjolk, & the pre & pro-biotic drinks out there to help you go. For me, the reason my scale gets stuck is because I’m not going. Hope this helps.3

Americans eat too many calories, and we are way too sedentary.
Dietary fat is calorie dense so it may be easier to over eat. But there are fat vegans and thin vegans because....(in case you haven't guessed)......calories.
Your definition of "unhealthy" and my definition are two different things. No exclamation points in my post, yet I still managed to voice an opinion.

Last week it was Carbs.
This week it's Fat.
Did we do protein yet? or is that scheduled for next week- I don't want to miss it- for obvious reasons.
I am guessing by march I'm going to be eating rice cakes and water- since that's the closest thing to nothing I can physically eat. (I'm excluding ice because I have a teeth sensitivity- and the water covers the "ice" basis- warm water for me- please and thank you)7 -

You've never seen a fat vegan... do you somehow know the chosen diet of all of the overweight people that you see?
And as said previously - what's with all the exclamation marks?1 -
If your only eating 1300 and working out 3 - 4 times a week then....there is something wrong. Wow, 1300 seems so low to me... I’m 155 and weight train 4 - 5 times a week and eat about 1900 a day and slowly have been losing 1 lbs a week. I don’t know how you can eat so little and not feel hungry all the time....2

I guess you'll miss out on the secret diet then.

OP didn't you just say that you had a baby?? Your hormones could be causing your body to hold onto fat and the lack of sleep causes you to hold onto fat.
Also if you are working out like you say you could be building muscles which are significantly more dense than fat.
All of that could cause the scale to stay constant or go down slower than expected. Have you measured yourself? To see if your body shape is changing?6
