I didn't have mobility issues. My weight didn't affect my daily life that much. Cutting my toenails would make me huff and puff, but how often does one cut their toenails?
I think it's both about degree and how kind life was to a particular person when they were obese. I was more than 150 lbs overweight, but I didn't mind it. I experienced little fat shaming and I didn't hate the way I looked. I would have rather been thinner, but it didn't bother me enough to be a problem, physically or mentally.
^This. Our experience being fat was vastly different.
Indeed!
Now, GETTING fat is super easy and sorta fun. BEING fat is no bueno.
True story. Culinary debauchery is pretty fun.

Not sure why I got "woo'd" here.
People on here don't believe in nutrition. It's all CICO.
Edit: I just got woo'd enough to bring my count up to 100. Almost all my woos are when I bring up nutrition. Ha ha ha. These people are fun.
No. "People on here" (at least some people) are intelligent enough to realize that they're two separate topics and the issues are contextual.26 -

Yes they are 2 separate issues. However, every time someone mentions that a salad is better for you than a twinkie. (Or something similar) people start arguing saying no it's all about CICO. We know to lose weight is CICO. This is myfitnesspal not myweightlosspal. It is better for your overall health to eat nutritious food. It is also a hell of a lot easier to stay within calorie range when you eat "good" food instead of "bad" food.25 -

^ Typical binary thinking. Completely ignores context and dosage.
Example #1 - ask a marathon runner at mile 21, or a Tour de France rider approaching the end of a stage, if they'd prefer a handful of Skittles or a bowl of organic kale.20 -

There are "people" who say you can lose weight while in a caloric surplus on keto/IF; there are "people" who say apple cider vinegar will melt the fat off your body; there are "people" who think eating 500 calories a day is a good idea.
People who understand the big picture understand that nutrition is important for a lot of reasons. But speaking purely in terms of weight loss, it's irrelevant. And people who understand the big picture also understand that context and dosage matter a great deal when speaking of nutrition.22 -

Good one today on Facebook, courtesy of Jordan Syatt/Syatt Fitness:
Text of the accompanying post:Please save this.
Screen shot it. Make it your background. Print it and paste it on your bathroom mirror. Whatever you do, keep this at the forefront of your mind.
Because the not-so-sexy truth about fat loss is...it’s not easy.
It’s not quick. It’s not fun or glamorous or noble.
Fat loss sucks.
Straight up, it sucks. There are ways to make it suck less and be more sustainable. You don’t need to eliminate everything in your life and you’re absolutely able to lose fat without starving yourself. And you can 100% lose fat while having fun and living life.
But the mental side of fat loss is what most people overlook.
It never goes as quickly as you want. You regularly feel like you’re messing up. You often doubt yourself and your ability to stay on track. You regularly feel like you’re missing out on social events and struggle to find the balance between strict enough to achieve your goals and flexible enough to enjoy life.
The good news is all these struggles are normal. We all go through them. And with enough time and effort and dedication and patience you can come out on the other side, fully understanding how to stay lean year-round without ever having these feelings again.
But there’s a difference.
A difference between those who succeed and those who don’t. And the difference lies in your ability to fail...get back up...and try again.
Because you will go off track. You will make mistakes. You will have days and weeks and months that don’t go your way. And that’s ok. You will come out on top. You will win. You will succeed. I promise. Just as long as you’re willing to keep getting back up and trying again and again and again. Because the only way to guarantee failure is to quit.
So don’t quit. Grit your teeth. Stand back up. And keep on fighting. You got this.30 -
Need awesome button back. ^^

Was OP malnourished eating what she liked before? Keep in mind, the advice "eat what you like" is often given in these situations because it's assumed that people are already eating a variety of foods and are not in a malnourished state.
If someone comes on sharing that they are not meeting their nutritional needs and asking for advice, they'll get advice to help them do that. I've seen in many times.
But I'm not sure why you would assume this particular poster is coming to us in a state of malnourishment and not understanding how to meet her needs. Do you think she was already trying to live on donuts?10 -

But I'm not sure why you would assume this particular poster is coming to us in a state of malnourishment and not understanding how to meet her needs. Do you think she was already trying to live on donuts?
Omg nevermind.13 -

Not sure why I got "woo'd" here.
People on here don't believe in nutrition. It's all CICO.
Edit: I just got woo'd enough to bring my count up to 100. Almost all my woos are when I bring up nutrition. Ha ha ha. These people are fun.
No. "People on here" (at least some people) are intelligent enough to realize that they're two separate topics and the issues are contextual.
It is also a hell of a lot easier to stay within calorie range when you eat "good" food instead of "bad" food.
^ Typical binary thinking. Completely ignores context and dosage.
Example #1 - ask a marathon runner at mile 21, or a Tour de France rider approaching the end of a stage, if they'd prefer a handful of Skittles or a bowl of organic kale.
Not even the point. The point was when mentioning nutrition in any of these forums people act like nutrition isn't important.
And people who understand the big picture also understand that context and dosage matter a great deal when speaking of nutrition.
Like I said earlier this is myfitnesspal not myweightlosspal. Why do people always want to act as though nutrition isn't important.
It's been pounded into people's heads that you have to eat less, and stop eating certain foods, and definitely can't eat "any" fats, since childhood. It's a lie that many never stop believing The proof of the truth is everywhere, and I'm glad I opened my eyes to it. I so hope others will. What is a month out of your life to "experiment" with. For me personally, sure, I'd rather have "fast" weightloss, but when I see what happens losing weight, and the difference between the "types" of "weight" lost, it's too frightening for me. I'm not about to lose lean, muscle mass if I can help it by fueling with healthy foods, especially our macros.
I've been enlightened especially by the em2wl group of gals and "did" prove it to myself.1 -

I've never seen a single thread that has said that. Can you link one?
For instance someone asked for meal ideas for weight loss. Not one person gave her any meals they just said eat whatever you want as long as it's within your calorie goals. That's crap advice. She asked for meal ideas. If she eats a donut for breakfast because it fits her calories then she'll be starving before lunch.

I'm sorry if this is a frustrating conversation for you, but it's also sometimes frustrating to see newer posters claim that nobody here cares about nutrition when many of us are active in various threads helping people figure out ways to meet their nutritional needs.19 -

Just the lack of discussions on healthy nutrition is the proof. I mentioned TDEE, and eating enough the other day on a thread and not one response. It could be for a lot of reasons there was no response, I realize, but could it also be no one wanted to look at that aspect of fitness?
I haven't read everything on this thread I admit, and different people have a different take on healthy nutrition. I'm just saying that I think that is more what the person you replied to is talking about, I could be wrong of course.8 -

Have you checked out the "Food and Nutrition" area? Conversations about meeting specific needs can more often be found there.7 -

I doubt it. Your thread probably got buried under a bunch of others and no one ever saw it.
I've discussed/responded to questions about TDEE and nutrition on this site a lot. My almost 18,000 posts aren't from ChitChat.10
