Remember when that was a thing?

What do you look back on and think "Wow, I haven't thought about THAT in a while. At one time that's all anyone was talking about!"?

I was just talking about AIM recently, I remember how important it seemed to pick out the perfect screen name and clever away message. Remember needing an away message?

Remember payphones? I saw one the other day and wondered if it works

There are several along the trip back to my hometown outside gas stations. I’ve asked my boys (aged 5, 8, 9, and 13) what they thought they were, and only the oldest came close to guessing :D .

I'm curious about some of their guesses...?

I may be dating myself here but remember when clipping a roach clip with a feather dangling off of it into your hair was a thing?

Oh yes. Did that in elementary school and didn't know what roach clips were until college.

    What? This is over?? Shattered..

note to self: next time you clip a feather in your hair and twirl around in a shawl with Stevie Nicks, close the blinds.

Transporter pads, bus stops, mail boxes, Superman’s changeroom, homeless shelters... the list went on for so many miles that I regretted asking.

I saw some payphones recently in the Cairo Airport. They looked so lonely.

Those shoes with the rollers — “Heelies” — have made a comeback by me...very popular with the 8-12-year-old set.

I also wore feathered roach clips in my hair. Kind of amazing my 4th grade teachers didn’t have a problem with it,

Remember when Palm Pilots seemed like the height of technology?

When my youngest son asked me for a cell phone I offered him my circa 2001 Motorola flip phone. He was unimpressed.

Pagers. I remember my mum got 1 when they first came out and wore it on her belt. Man I thought she was the coolest person alive, receiving pages and all. That was some star trek *kitten* back in those days.

I still have one for work

    You're so hip

I choreographed an entire lip synch routine to “Gypsy” featuring many of these elements when I was about 11. Long diaphanous skirt a must!

Always keeping a quarter when you left the house in case you had car trouble. And a road atlas.
    Parachute pants. Ugh.
Frosted lipstick. When everyone looked like they had frostbite.
Dial-up internet. It was amazing. You could start dialing, go make dinner, clean up the kitchen, take your shower, come back to your computer and you were finally connected to the whole world.

Good grief I'm old. I guess the next thing I should list is indoor plumbing... :D

Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman. That was a thing. And Sully? Was that his name? I had one of those roach clip feathers (had no idea what it was) that I clipped at the back like his because I thought that was the coolest idea/look.
