Thanks @Elise4270 I wondered that too. But in case I did upset or offend someone I didn't mean to.
I'm with Elise on this one - probably a miss-click, and either way, it was a totally inoffensive post. The only thing I can possibly think of is that someone might have interpreted your comment about choosing not to eat before running as encouraging unhealthy eating behaviors, but that's a pretty absurd reading given how common fasted cardio and intermittent fasting is in these parts. Personally, I rarely eat before running - I like to keep the time between rolling out of bed and hitting the pavement as brief as possible, and I've certainly never noticed any negative effects of it.2 -

I agree. I never eat before a run anymore, and it is very common in the running community to run fasted. Although, if i run/bike in the afternoon, i will have obviously eaten sometime prior to the activity.2 -

Well, now I am offended that I missed the post!7 -

Scrolling through the week's posts - seeing lots of comments about being a slow runner - which I have mastered.
I run into people who say "hey I saw you walking your dog the other day" - and I respond "I was RUNNING my dog" - so HA that's how slow I am - my running looks like walking! And I'm perfectly OK with that. Well, who am I kidding, I would love to be a little faster. And a little thinner. And a little better looking. And a little richer.15 -

Today's run was super hot, but I loved it anyway because I had a chance to run with my uncle! I haven't seen him in a couple of years at least, not since before I started running, and I was so happy he was able to make the drive to join us for part of our family lake vacation weekend. He did a marathon this fall at age 65 or so after 20 years since his last marathon (he had done 10 of them over 10 years back in the 90s). He is training for another sprint tri right now, but has his eyes on longer ones after he retires in the fall. It was so great to have a chance to share a run with him and hear about his running, and get encouragement and tips. We did have to stop and walk the last 1/2 mile (well, I had to, and he humored me) because it was so incredibly hot, but I would have only run 3 at the most on my own so I was happy with that. That was just a really special experience for me. I hope someday we'll be able to run a race together!14 -

I wanna take a second cuz my earlier post was reported as abuse... I am confused as to why it was reported and it was not my intent to upset anyone - especially as I was speaking about myself in the post. I'd just like to clarify that.
I saw that. You did nothing wrong. The mods do look at it and you shouldn't worry about it. I wonder if it was done inadvertently scrolling on mobile.
I also saw the flag and thought it must have been hit accidentally. Absolutely nothing offending in the post.2 -

Thank you all! I'm glad yous didn't find it offending.
I was getting into a bad habit of coming home from work and eating and then running because it's so flipping hot when I get home. And then I'd feel like garbage while I ran. Eating after instead of before has definitely helped.6 -

Wineglass Marathon 9/30
I completed my 14 miles! My average pace ended up being about 1:30 slower per mile than what I’m ideally planning for the marathon (I didn’t want it to go past 2:00 slower), so I feel pretty good about how it went overall.11 -
Hi- starting mid month.
Goal is 30 miles by the 30th.4 -
Had an amazing long run yesterday even though I got out the door late. We are having a few days of cooler 'June Gloom' weather and what was Hurricane Ben is kicking up some winds to go with it. Running into the wind was tough but the air felt great and running with the wind didn't like there was any wind at al!
I wasn't sure I would be able to get in the entire 9+1+1 the plan called for after running 7 on Friday but came very close. My legs were pretty much toasted by the time I got home though. I also had an issue with my sock pulling on my 2nd toe and it is pretty sore still even though I did stop and try to fix it. Hoping I don't lose the nail
Now to catch up on everyone's activities.
Discovered this plaque, while looking for a trash bin, that I had never noticed before.
This is the Santa Ana riverbed that I run along (usually on the other side). Not a lot of water right now but where there was there were tons of ducks, ducklings and other shore birds that Hobbes the Vizsla wanted to checkout. I run the dirt on the left and the paved bike trail is further to the left. Not nearly as pretty as where many of you run but it is close by.

It was only 76 but felt much hotter and there was no lovely cloud coverage like yesterday so it was the glowing ball of doom all the time. I tried a new route that took me east first so I could get the running into the glowing ball of doom done first. It wasn't bad but I realized how little sidewalk there is. I had to switch sides of streets or just run in the dirt. Which is actually very difficult. And disgusting.
I ran through a little park and found a drinking fountain. I rinsed my face off. It felt good.
I almost gave up just after mile 8. I had to stop and sit in the shade. I ran out of energy around mile 6 or 7 and had mostly been walking. I decided it was less than 2 miles and kept going. I think it was mostly walking.7 -

June running total to date – 26.15
Nominal June mileage goal: 160 miles
Real goals: Stay healthy. Survive 4 races scheduled in June, 2 of them outside my comfort zone. Start training toward Wineglass.
Today's notes – The ankle felt reasonable most of yesterday, and totally normal this morning. So I got myself off to run the Medved 5K to Cure ALS, with temperature forecast in the 70s at gun time.
Got there in plenty of time. Dithered about whether to do a warmup and how much. Normally, I like to run a course preview as a warmup for a 5K; but I didn't know how much distance my left Achilles would tolerate. I didn't like the idea of lining up to start a race cold. So I compromised. There is an intersection before a mile that the course approaches from the north, then turns left to head east. Later, the course approaches that same intersection from the south and turns left to head west. For my warmup, I ran the first part of the course to that intersection, then turned right to head west and ran the end of the course. That came out to 1.59 miles, and everything felt good.
Next point was whether I was going to pace a 7:00 mile for the guy from the running store. Another good runner in my age group commented that since I showed up, he couldn't win; I told him I was contemplating pacing a 7 minute mile and he could beat that. He said, "How about pacing a 6:40 for me?" He wanted to break 21 minutes, which he had never done in a 5K even though it should be within his ability.
So I lined up. The guy from the running store is tall, so I could spot him. He lined up further back than he should for a 7 minute mile. I lined up next to the other fast guy in my age group. He wasn't wearing a watch, and said he'd want to stay just ahead of me if I was running a 7 minute mile. Told him I'd go out too fast then moderate to something sustainable. Went out, and didn't see him again till after the finish line.
Passed the mile mark as the announcer said "6:08." I'm running well, and the ankle feels normal. The second mile is normally slower, since I was running sub-6 going out and can't sustain that for a 5K. About a mile and a half, a lady from my club caught up to me. Told her to go for it, but she couldn't pull ahead. Coached her to run tangents on Plymouth Ave, and she did better than the pack ahead of us but not as well as she should.
We arrived at the turn into the parking lot together. Told her, 800 meters left. Turn it on. You're better than me. And I turned it on. Didn't see her again, but when we got into the stadium I called out to hug the inside of the warning track till you get to third base. Came down the third base line, and I saw 17:XX on the clock.
Say what? I'm running well, but beating 18 is freaking unbelievable. Turned out I crossed at 18:04. The lady who was near me finished in 18:06. If she had run better tangents on Plymouth Ave she could have shaved 2 or 3 seconds off her time, easy. (She ended up as 3rd overall female.)
Had a blissful few minutes wondering how the heck I ran that fast of a 5K, before another runner told me the course was short. Look at Garmin. 2.93 miles. Yep, short course. We didn't actually run through that intersection a second time; we turned early, and the total race was about two tenths of a mile short. A fair competition with other runners today, but not comparable to other 5K races.
If I assume an extra 0.2 miles at my average race pace, that would be a 19:19 5K. If I assume the extra 0.2 miles at a slow 7 minute pace, that would be a 19:28 5K. It wouldn't be a PR in either case, but I ran pretty well today.
I finished 31st of 402 overall, 1st of 18 in the M 60-64 age group. (Earlier it showed me 30th of 398 overall. I understand late finishers, but how does the software not pick up someone finishing faster than me until late?) Got a $20 gift certificate for Medved (local running store) for winning the age group. That's better than a cheap generic medal that would typically be given out for winning a 5K age group.
The best news is, my ankle did not complain about racing. The Achilles was silent during my soleus stretch. There was a some slight muttering from the left ankle in a different area after I cooled down, so I iced it; and I'll see how things feel tomorrow. In any event, tomorrow is a scheduled rest day and a PT visit.
I am optimistic that I have the Achilles problem beat. Now I just have to make sure I don't bring it back.

Finally a chance to peek into this thread! Only by braving the moskitos outside the campside reception building (where the wifi is ). I don't have much running to report - week one of my vacation is over, and I only went for two runs together with my sister, both quite short (it's really hot, and we were always exhausted from general vacation activities in the evening). So running-wise I'll be completely out of shape when I come home.
But we did some hiking and sightseeing, which still amounted to more than 20,000 steps per day on average. And today we went canoeing, which I hadn't done in ages. 24km - my arms and shoulders are going to be super sore tomorrow!!

@bride001 That's awesome that the warm-up suggested by the PT helped, I hope your foot will be fine from now on!
@zdyb23456 Kudos on your great 14 mile run
@JulieS3103 Yes, trails are fun! Some nice trails are responsible for a couple of scrapes and cuts on my legs every summer, but I still keep coming back to them ;-p
@shanaber Glad that you are feeling better! Wow, you have trails with nice bathrooms? Sounds like any runners dream come true
@PastorVincent good luck with the house-hunting!
@sarahthes Sorry you are sick. Get well soon!
@taylorlegal welcome to the challenge
@skippygirlsmom Great race, congratulations!
@rheddmobile Happy birthday!
@hanlonsk Great pictures! It's so hard to capture wild animals, usually I don't manage to snap a photo ((I've seen a fox a couple of times, and a large group of boar once, but no way to prove it ^^))
@biketheworld lol, me too! only if I could make any wish, maybe I'd want to be a *lot* faster
@shanaber I'm a bit jealous of your cooler weather. I love the cloudy sky in the picture, I want some of those clouds too!3 -

Goal = 110 miles
Got out as early as I could for another steamy run on trails by the lake house. It was not as bad as yesterday but close, with temps in the 80s and high humidity at 7 am. I managed 3.3 miles but walked a tiny bit at the turnaround and up one final hill. No stamina left after spending basically all day in the heat yesterday.
After my run, I had to make good on my promise to take my great niece to try stand up paddle-boarding. Really I was the one who wanted to do it, but had invited her and she all keyed up about it. She's 10 and pretty athletic, and she had no problem standing up on the board immediately. And surprisingly neither did I. We watched a YouTube video before we left to get the technique - LOL, seemed to work! I really liked it, she did not love it (the paddling was too challenging and she gave up easily). I may have to get myself a board!

Had a busy day yesterday and was up until 4am. I did sleep in, but still exhausted. Also, it is hot outside. Those 2 factors made it a tough run and there was a lot of walking. The schedule shows 12 miles, but I only got 8.93 before I decided I had enough.
Despite the very slow average pace (due to a lot of walking), Garmin still estimated Aerobic Training Effect at 3.0 (improving). Maybe the heat increased my HR.3 -
Okay, just when I thought I had seen everything.... A sky diving ultra trail run?!? That race is WAY to hardcore for me!2

I got up at 6:30 with the best of intentions to run before it got too hot and muggy. But instead of putting on my shoes, I put on some coffee, and then next thing you know, I've had 2 cups of coffee and I'm enjoying sitting on the deck with the kiddos and it's 10:30!
So I did a 2 miler in the heat and humidity and mostly didn't die.

Went to the greenway with Skip this morning, she had 8 on her agenda I figured I’d do 3 after yesterday, I felt great and did a down a back for a total of 4 and then walked almost 2 more while I waited on her.
@cburke8909 that is the sweetest thing, thank you very much.
Happy Father’s Day to you too!
Thanks @Scott6255 Skip said thank you too!
Thanks @bride001 I just realized my picture said first trail run, we actually run trails quite a bit, it was actually my first trail race.
@5BeautifulDays thanks, it was a nice one. I love the medal, it’s made out of wood. You get one for each race and if you do them all you get a plaque at the end to hang them on. I hope you are okay?
Do we still have “Embrace the suck” shirts sitting somewhere that I can order one? Skip mentioned wanting one yesterday?
Dang I just noticed how big my pictures were ha ha sorry!
@PastorVincent hope it works out with the house
@rheddmobile Happy Birthday
@weat0043 you’d have to be pretty over the top to offend this bunch! No worries
@Elise4270 great job!
@biketheworld hysterical about running the dog!
@ContraryMaryMary that is definitely some mud
@marisap2010 great job the long run – nice job to everyone getting those long runs done in the heat
@MobyCarp glad the Achilles is feeling normal
@keeprunningfatboy I’m looking at your list 13.1 one day and Olympic Tri the next, what the heck awesome!

There is a series of trail runs around here called the Backyard Burn that I think does something like that with the medals. If I can get my mileage up, I want to do the fall series. They do 5 races and you can choose 5 mile or 10 mile options (although I think they're a little loose with the mileage...the 5 miler is basically a 10K).
Also, I'm fine! I just had one of those pesky womanly procedures that wound up hurting more and making me more exhausted than I had planned for. I ran the day after and was fine, but then the next several days were just blah for running.
