Women seem to have better resilience (Sisu, perhaps) and are better represented in endurance events.
I don't think it's depressing though. It just explains a lot.
It might be depressing for men to think that they're not actually that fast compared to the general population, they're just born with an advantage over half of them.4 -
Soooo totally not running related... well maybe it is, because if I don’t come up with an alternate plan, my father has suggested trying to kill me by running a 5k in New Orleans in mid August (red dress race)
but I have a forced 10 day vacation coming in August due to current travel for work location + sturgis = no hotel.... and I actually have finally gotten to a point where I can afford an adventure.
The problem is, it has been too long since I have had an adventure, I have too many ideas, and too many options with any one location. And being overwhelmed has me thinking “fine I will just stay home and do nothing!”
So, since many of you 1. Live in what this Wyoming girl considers an exotic location, and 2. Many of you seem to go on running and non running related adventures
What is an adventure you have been on lately? did you love it? Would you do it again/recommend it? What did it cost?0 -
@hanlonsk My last big adventure vacation was a year ago when I did the Glacier Half Marathon and then backpacked in Glacier National Park. But for a Wyoming-ite, that may not be as exotic or exciting.0

Eh, just remember generalizations are worthless when you try to apply them to specific people. My marathon PR is around 3:50... but there are many women that crush that. The only person I compare myself to is the me that ran that distance and/or course previously. Everyone else I will cheer no matter where they are in the pack.5 -

Only 14% of the USA ran (or jogged) in 2016 ( I do not have world wide numbers). That means EVERYONE AMERICAN IN THIS THREAD is a top tier finisher compared to the rest of the USA. I am sure the same is true in other countries.
Y'all are killin it!

So with the rain I didn't get to run outside but I made up for it with an hour on the elliptical. I ran 5.2 miles. I also had a strength training session at the gym so that helped.
@PastorVincent thanks for the motivation. Running is not my thing...yet but I'm getting there. Definitely doing better then the guy on the couch.
Total miles 23.59/40

4 miles in today. 2.2 were week 5 day 1 of C25K. 33.4 miles to go.3

@hanlonsk - the best adventure I have been on in while was going to Costa Rica with my daughter. We had a blast, ran in the jungle, saw wild toucans and all kinds of other wild life (butterflies, frogs, monkeys, etc.) as well as running and hiking around on the beach and lazing in the pool at the hotel. It wasn't horrendously expensive once you got there and I had lots of airline miles to use up. Oh and also the food is amazing!
@ladysnickerdoo - the operative word in your reply to @PastorVincent is 'yet'!
Don't think I will make my goal this month but I am planning to get out and run tomorrow. May have to leave Hobbes the Vizsla home though after our raisin scare today but I will see if he is still doing ok in the morning.1 -
14 km Judah Hill Climb 258m elevation. It was a struggle but I survived. One of those days where everything seemed off. One shoe to tight, other one loose. Picked up a Giant Boulder in the shoe, actually a grain of sand but felt bigger. Had to drop into a walk a few times as the fuel tank seemed empty. Which in hindsight was to be expected as I have received some of the wonderful International Telemarketing calls, at 0500 for 2 days in a row. The standard Income Tax scam claiming I owe tax and the IRS would have the FBI come to arrest me.
I bamboozled them by saying I was packed and ready for vacation in jail.
IRS/FBI I'm Canadian wrong references.

@skippygirlsmom I am the mental health unit manager at the prison. Unfortunately, community mental health programs have changed and decreased a lot over the years, so a lot of people with pretty severe mental health diagnoses end up off meds, committing crimes, and coming to prison.
As far as running speed, I am fairly slow too. My times have improved over the years, and I have won a couple of AG awards, but I don’t ever anticipate winning a race, and that’s ok. I compete with myself. My goal right now is to complete a marathon, even if I am in the back.
With regard to weight, I have struggled my whole life. I would like to ideally lose about 15 more pounds, but it has been hard, and I struggle with focusing on weight vs. focusing on marathon training. I am reading a book on marathon nutrition by Matt Fitzgerald right now and trying to figure out how to be my best me.5 -
@hanlonsk We did the slot canyons in northern AZ plus Zion Bryce Arches and Canyonlands. Not sure August is the best time for that...0
-
Rest day, one last long run tomorrow and half-marathon in 8 days.7

What do you guys do to help bounce back from a bad workout/run?
I think about whether or not it's an indicator that I could be developing an injury or that I may be overtraining. Sometimes neither is the case, it can just be a bad day, other conditions, not enough sleep or too much stress. I have a new Garmin 35 that I have been using since the beginning of the year that has a V02 max measure.(I do not put too much stock in the measure itself as I doubt it is accurate.) I use the measure as a comparison of how I am doing from one day/week/month to the next. For some reason this number drop off a little in April with little explanation but then it returned to previous levels in May. I think it was a slowdown on my body due to pushing hard for a PR 10k. I achieved the record but my body needed to recover. I am interested to see if this will also happen after my half this month.2 -

Hubby and I did a hiking holiday in Utah last September. We visited Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef. Totally and utterly fantastic. Watching a thunderstorm over Bryce Canyon was an amazing experience.

@BruinsGal_91 We didn't have time for Capital Reef but it's on our list for next time. And I want to do Bryce in winter. We missed snow there by a week. Everywhere you look in that area is just amazing.

10x hill repeats this morning. By the 8th set, my legs were dead. And pouring sweat. Today was 88 degrees when I left the house. A monsoon is supposedly brewing. There was cloud coverage this morning and the high this weekend is expected to be under 100! My goal might be tough with my two days this week that I didn't plan well. Oh well, *kitten* happens.5 -

Almost skipped my run this morning. Glad I didn't because it wound up feeling a lot better than previous runs. I started out at a slower pace than usual and just kept it nice and easy, ever so gradually increasing the pace. Managed to crank out 4 miles that way.
I've done yoga twice this week, which is twice more than last week. Maybe I can sneak in a quick session over the weekend.
Edit: I already have 10k steps at 9:00 AM!! Woohoo!!14 -

Like @ladysnickerdoo, got my run in before it turns into a furnace out there. There was a pretty nice breeze so not too bad but the humidity was for real. Headed out to the lake for the weekend later today so hope we will be able to keep cool enough. I have made a big batch of strawberry vodka slushies to help with that effort.

Hmm. I already do this every day on the treadmill in my house. Does that count? Not sure if I could do it out in public though. My body image is awful, especially since gaining weight.2 -

Hmmm....I usually have Sundays as my rest days. That's a work day for me, but, ya know, I just may have to crank out a mile & break out of my comfort zone in support! Run - outside - WITHOUT a shirt?! Yipes!
Almost put off todays run, but thought the better of it. Run time: 0810, 79 degrees, 90% humidity, 76 DP, and this bright chick decides "well, you are out already, might add another 5 mins on. Sure. Why not? Get to the end, and then have to get up to 2 miles since I was so close...Remind me again why we do this?
6/4 - 1.64 miles
6/6 - 1.55 miles
6/9 - 1.67 miles
