WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR JUNE 2018

So busy. 8 hour+ days, 6 days this week and little time for anything else.
Thanks Barbara and Evelyn, I too think Kidd Kirby is a complete doll, but I know I start from a very biased place.
Today, even Charlie Underfoot wishes I’d just slow down and play with him.
The garage is still flooding when we run the clothes washer so Sunday will be spent at the laundrymat. We don’t have a spare five to ten grand to run a new sewer connection line to it, so we are out of luck. I am very glad we have 4 sets of sheets (especially since the cats share our bed) but will curse when we have to spend the hours there necessary to get everything washed.
Scale is behaving. Exercise is minimal beyond the strength training. Might be able to get a bit of swim in on the 4th, I hope. (Of course I’ll be working on the 4th too, just not a full shift because they are closing earlier).
So I’ll wish you all the best, not sure how much I’ll be around but I do usually have a slow down in the early evening at work where I can catch up reading about y’all - but my participation will be curtailed by the demands on my time.
If I grab a good kitty pic I may try to share it with you, but prob won’t have much time for more until and unless I can adjust to this schedule.
Love, best wishes, hugs and congrats to all,
Rye
I have been doing laundry at the laundromat since October 2016. I curse going in the winter and hauling the clothes out to the car, but I've gotten so used to doing all loads at once and being done in a couple hours I don't know how I'll do when I finally get a set at home again.

Hi all. It's terribly hot and humid today so I am hiding indoors until later this evening when I go out to hear one of my favorite local bands.
Mary: sending prayers daily!
Katla: I'm not exactly sure what the Wellbutrin is supposed to do....I guess I didn't quite understand or I forgot why I'm on it. I know it's an antidepressant, but I'm doing well on the sertraline, so I guess I better call and clarify! Makes me very drowsy.
I know this is quick; take care. Meg from Omaha5 -
We had the local brill we bought from the fish market yesterday. Oh my! Heaven! And huge!
I proudly showed my son the two chorizo I'd bought and he said it wasn't the one he shared with us. He had wild boar. Oh well. I'm sure it'll be delicious anyway.
Now it's the lull. Nothing happening until we hear from the solicitors and get the paper work started. I've emailed the agents to ask for a floor plan and to set up a viewing later in the month so we can check out measurements etc and figure out where furniture is going and what to Freecycle once we've exchanged. As there is plenty of storage I won't have to rationalise all my piles of writings. I should do a bit, but not feeling panicky. Thank goodness.
There are two receptions, a lovely dining/sun room and a big utility. Storage garage. Two large bedrooms and one small upstairs and then a big ensuite loft conversion. Downstairs toilet, shower room upstairs and big bathroom in the conversion. I'm not sure I want to use the loft conversion as our master because I'm not keen on having to go up two floors. I'm up and down to the bedroom all day. The other bedrooms are big enough, but it does seem a waste of a beautiful space.
Crossing fingers like mad it all works out. I want to move 'yesterday'.
Just recently a friend of mine who is super fit and active dropped a bread knife on her foot as she was making sandwiches for a hike. She severed a ligament which then retreated up her leg. She has just today had it operated on. Crutches and a long rehab in her future. She lives in a house with no downstairs bathroom. Don't know how she is going to manage with the steep stairs. I will visit soon and take supplies over.

Skipping 200 posts and then just jumping in only makes you feel like you've been somewhere not real pleasant. Miss all y'all!
Heather - The 3rd one is always a 'bad' child (as in very adventurous). The first one 'makes the rules', the 2nd one is the 'reason for the rules', and the third one, 'just doesn't follow the rules'. I know this from experience; I am the 3rd girl in the family. My Mother used to tell her friends that she wanted 6 boys; but, stopped at 3 girls because they were twice as nice. BULL - That's not the reason she stopped, it was because her BP went sky high when she was pregnant with my middle sister. She was told NOT to get pregnant a 3rd time; it could kill her, the baby, or both … but; here I am! I had to be taken to my great-aunts' house because she could not lift anything that weighed more than 5lbs.

Thank you ladies for all of your prayers and well wishes. No change for Sarah. The infection is still preventing any surgical procedure. The next plan is to possibly send her home with an IV port so that she can be given her antibiotics at home. She will have to go to the clinic to be checked. Please continue to pray for this infection to go away! They told her it could last as long as a month. Then they would look at surgery. In the meantime they are going to start her on food to see if the blockage has diminished. They think the blockage was caused by inflammation due to the infection. She needs to be able to eat and eliminate before she can be released. I definitely am not keen on this approach. It's really hard when you just have to take a back seat to your adult child's health care.
On the homefront we have one more day to get the cabin ready for the renter. I painted it last fall so I only needed to put a little putty in the nail holes until I walked in and noticed that my husband thought he would help out by using a 6 inch putty knife to fill the holes and now I have to paint the whole thing! I'm definitely looking forward to Sunday and being able to rest.
Hugs and prayers to those that need them! Beautiful pictures of you ladies and grandchildren and fur babies. Love your house Heather! i'm hoping to be back to somewhat of a normal routine on Monday!
Have a great day everyone!

Rye, oh my, Charlie every bit as cute as Kirby! I don't envy you working all those long hours or going to the laundromat! But I know from past experience all about costly sewer connections!
Heather, the house looks very nice, keeping my fingers crossed for you! Keeping both your cancer friend and "ligament" friend in my thoughts. Grand kids are so very cute!
Janet OKC, that man is truly obnoxious! I agree with Dana, how could he possibly think you don't know what kind of surgery you had! Ugh!
Dana, that swimming "hole" looks awesome! I bet the kids had a blast!
Yikes! Too busy at work to finish all my thoughts!
Welcome to the newbies, hugs for those needing them, and congrats to those celebrating!

Yikes! DD took my truck to work today because hers is having problems and can't get fixed until July 13. She called and was stalled on the freeway coming home from work. Truck would not start and she had to call 911 because she was afraid she would get hit, no shoulder on the road to pull off on. She called AAA and they could not figure out where she was so the police called someone and she is now on her way with the truck to a repair shop. We will have to pay and then AAA should reimburse us. DH is on his way to meet her and bring her home. In two days we have gone from 3 vehicles to one. Hope that one keeps running at least until we get the others back. Otherwise we might have to start riding the horses where we need to go. LOL
Everyone take care, Sue in WA9 -

Well, the $not had hit the fan, and I am severing ties with my middle sister. There is only so much you can take, until you say enough! Waiting to speak with my eldest sister on what I've done. My middle sister stated she couldn't handle the animosity we have towards us. What? Its because we love her so, that we worry, try to stay connected, and put so much emotions in this all. Aack! Family is frustrating!

Beth, thank you. Down 33 pounds since the beginning of the year. Four more to original post bariatric surgery loss of #125. Think I'll go for 10 more pounds after that. What have I got to lose?? (Pun intended). 😇

Did deepwater class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a Biggest Loser Cardio Max DVD.
Barbie – I just like the color of this mug. The only way I can get this color is if I were to order three of them, which I don’t need three (and really don’t want, they’d never fit in my cupholder. One I can hold while we’re going to bowling). I’m hoping that by soaking it in the peppermint oil, the oils will get into the plastic and overpower the coffee. Otherwise, I just might have to get rid of it. Well, we shall see if this works
Exercised, made a donation to the Salvation Army, went to WalMart, home to put things away then to the landfill, then in the pool, to Lowes, WalMart again (a different store. They really do have different foods in each), bought gas, now home
Katie – the mug is like a hard plastic. I’m thinking that the coffee got soaked up by the plastic so by my putting peppermint oil and letting that sit there for about 2 weeks, hopefully that’ll overpower the coffee taste
Rye – Charlie Underfoot is just as cute as Kidd Kirby
Warning: a bit of a rant to follow.
I’m getting a little frustrated with Newcomers. There are parts to the website that do not work and the current webmaster has stated that he cannot fix them. Vince called a local place here and they said that PERHAPS there is a plug in now that will make that feature usable. The gal who is the president doesn’t think that it’s important enough to do. There was lengthy discussion that they wanted it before, but now that it’s broken, they don’t want to fix it) I feel that as Newcomers gets new members who have less hesitation about the website, we don’t look very good if our website doesn’t even work. I don’t know why I have to do a certain aspect. That aspect includes the interests of the members (the part of the website that doesn’t work) but I’m the only person who has access to it. Why am I keeping it? One gal said that she wants it so she can search for an interest. Well, I haven’t sent her a copy of the spreadsheet in YEARS. Vince brought up the fact of what would happen if suddenly the one person who is the webmaster for some reason can no long do that job. We’re screwed, like we were when the guy who set it up suddenly died. Again, the president doesn’t see this as important, she thinks we should look for a member who can do it. That’s OK, but I question if there is a member who has the knowledge. In going with a company who has our website on their server, if, say, there is an update that screws up our website, they can fix it. But the president is so afraid that the webmaster will be hurt, he’ll do the exact same thing he does now, the other gal and I would do the exact same thing. They just don’t see this as important.
Rebecca – We just found out that Jess was in a similar situation as you were with your electric. Jess was getting all these checks from the insurance co. for her car. What we found out today was that her payments had been applied to her old insurance, not the new insurance. So they cancelled her policy. She called them and it’s all worked out.
Oh, Jess asked if we could go up and help Colby move. I have no idea where he is moving to. I just hope that he has it sorted out what goes, what goes into storage, does he need a truck (Jess said if he does then he’d drive it), and would we bring Shadow (her cat) back with us. Then, when she comes back in the middle of August she’ll take the cat back up to Colby. To me, that’s a lot of change for the cat. It’s an older cat. First to lose Jess, then Colby, then us, then Jess, back to Colby. And where is he moving to? To some place where they have lots of cats? Shadow doesn’t get along with any other cat. When she comes down here, she stays in one of the bedrooms and bathroom (more by her own choice)
I don’t know why, but I’m so cold right now. I’m sitting here with a sweater on. Last night I was watching TV and I had a heavy blanket on. Maybe Vince has the a/c too high for me.
We got our NC Quick Pass transponders today. They’re like the EZPass which we had (we got it back when it was free in Delaware). The nice thing about this is that it accepts EZPass, SunPass (in FL), I didn’t know this but the toll roads in NC (I never knew that there were any!), the (I think it is) Peach Pass – that’s for the toll roads in Georgia (I didn’t even know that they had toll roads). It wasn’t very expensive but for the convenience of using it in FL will be worth it.
Heather – when Vince had the tibial plateau fracture, our full bath was upstairs. What he had to do to get up the stairs to take a shower or whatever was scoot up the stairs on his backside. Maybe your friend can do the same thing while holding onto her crutches. Or if she has someone, maybe they can take the crutches up the stairs for her.

Hi Gals,
Janetr – what a dumb old man!
Mary – sending thoughts to your family
Heather – so great that this could work, as I understand the “chain” you need a buyer too, is that locked in?
Hugs to all
So today was pretty amazing – I have been watering a yard for a member of my garden club while she’s been out of town, she’s in a very exclusive area of homes – and her yard is full of art work and fancy items. I am super careful watering, moving a hose around, but yesterday a hose hit a pot and over it went breaking it – it was a cute pot, but I hoped just a “regular” pot not one from an artist she was collecting - I took pictures, emailed it to her apologized and offered to pay to replace it, she’s a bit of a prima Dona, and I was not sure what to expect… She was like no problem! You don’t need to worry about it all - thank goodness!!!
The second thing that happened today was I got a call from an embroidery shop in town, a competitor, but one without a very good reputation, they do embroidery, printing (silk screening) and etching – I think they stretch themselves a bit thin – anyway, after a bit of phone message tag; I spoke to them and they wanted to stop doing any orders smaller than 10 identical items but needed someone to refer orders to, and would I like to be that person? OH MY - YES!!! This could mean with no marketing, just dropping off a few business cards a month I could end up with 8-10 more orders a month. What a change to my world/finances this could be! - the other side of it is they could be full of hot air and it could turn out to be nothing, but I’ve keeping the good thought. The cool thing is that somehow the continued updating of my facebook page got it forwarded to them and that got them to reach out to me, so my “baby” marketing attempt is making a difference!
Smiles

Janetr you are a doll! Ugh old men indeed, especially when they'll take the word of a man, but not of the woman involved herself. Pfui!
Michele What is a bubba mug? I'd scrub it out with Bon Ami, if none available, try baking soda and white vinegar?
Dana great pics of kids. Swimming pool/hole looks so inviting!
Rye Charlie Underfoot is darling! Your new schedule sounds awfully demanding, hope it's short term?
Rita love the Wicket pic!
Mary so hard to respect Sarah's privacy when you must be crazy worried. Moved her and her caregiving team up the list. Scary they think she'll heal from infection better at home than in hospital.
Heather the house looks and sounds lovely, especially being able to see the sea from the front gate. Will you be able to make a little seating area from which to enjoy the view?
Sue in WA Yikes! Your DD was smart to call 911, stalled truck could have started a truly horrible chain smashup. Glad she's home safe!
Beth "dysFUNctional" LOL!
Kim Fingers X'd that you get all the new orders you want.
Laundromats... when we moved into our first house and got a washer/drier, I raised my fist to the sky and swore that as God was my witness I'd never go to the laundromat again. . . and have only broken my oath once for a huge comforter that I could NOT cram into my machine. Rye and Tracey you have my deepest sympathy.
On his morning bike ride, Joe met and actually chatted with another guy. He, too, was biking on Dr.'s orders. The guy said the rest of the path was even steeper but that Joe would be able to work up to it. Joe was encouraged and smiling when he related this story to me. I'm ecstatic! Such a huge step for totally a-social self-contained Joe.
Sleep sweet, lovelies!

I just got off the phone with my eldest sis. I wanted to know that I had her ok with putting WE in many of the comments I said to my middle sister. She said no worries, we were on the same page on the frustrations we've felt. My husband said I was making more of an issue than need be. All I know is I was the one that got the phone call from eldest sis, venting to me about never being able to connect with our middle sis. It has been a year since they've spoken. I wanted to talk serious with my middle sister about that. But my middle sister texted me saying she'll talk to my eldest sis when she is ready. My middle sister said we have animosity towards her, and it overwhelms her. Animosity? I am fighting to keep us communicating, I don't have hatred towards her! Anyways, I told her that I was done, done with the heartache, done with waiting for her to be ready to be a sister. Its tough when you aren't even on someone's radar priority wise.
So I have my eldest sister, that I call whenever.👍 And of course I have you all!💗
Love,

Arrgh... insomnia... unusual of late, which has been lovely, but got a phone call earlier in the evening from my sis that she and my two favorite nieces will be over to visit on Sunday, and was going over what I need to have ready in case they can stay the night. If she can't get someone to stay with my nephew (who is Downs, and mildly autistic, and hates long car trips), they'll turn around and go back that evening. It's about a five-hour drive from her home near Lawton, Oklahoma, to here, and they plan to be here around 9 a.m. It will be the first visitors we've had here. Was tossing and turning over that, and just decided to get up.
Did, in the end have a quite productive day, after being determined to be lazy (it's possible I'm not capable of it). Got a painting color blocked, the beginning step of fulfilling a special request from my daughter for a painting with a pair of rainboots with flowers in them. We'll see how it turns out. Also had a lovely, long conversation with my best friend in Montana as well this morning. We both use bluetooth headsets for our cellphones, so I was able to get a seam picked out of my quilt that I wasn't happy with while I was talking to her, and she was working on something as well.
Then at about 11 a.m., once the sun was up and dried all the dew, I mowed the lawn, all the front and half the back, took nearly an hour. At 97 degrees outside, I was basically a puddle by then. The knees held up pretty well, though. And, once I cooled down and showered, finished getting 180 sponsorship request letters stuffed for our October Chuckwagon event with letter, materials, return envelope and card. Corey helped me seal and stamp them after dinner, so that's done and dusted. Will pop them in the mail on Sunday.
On the subject of laundromats. After the fourth time the same creepy guy followed me around the laundromat for an hour or so, we bought a washer and dryer for the warehouse in Texas. Don't mind the laundromat, it's thinking time, and gets all the laundry done at once. But I draw the line at being scared while I'm there.
Thanks to everyone who checks out the blog--it's fun for me, helps keep the planning organized, and will be great "before" pictures to match up with the "afters," I'm hoping. We got the survey for the land this week, and it's almost overwhelming to think about owning more than 11 acres. Can't wait to see what else we'll find--so far, we've found an old boat, and a trailer for it, a chicken house, a dog run, sheds, a motor scooter and a treadmill. Who knows what else is buried out there in the woods? Well, hopefully nothing and nobody "buried," but you know what I mean.
OK, going to go find a soothing book to read, I've got quite a few of the Mitford series waiting for me.
Mary - thinking of you and your daughter. Won't tell you my own experience with a twisted gut, you've enough to worry about, and mine was unusual, a complication from the gastric bypass. Just hope all turns out well.
Love y'all!

Yes ... this!
And bleach can work as well. We use bleach (a splash of bleach + hot water) in our bicycle waterbottles. Let it soak overnight, empty out half, give it a good shake, empty out out most, then dishwasher.

My husband is home!
101 days after the accident he has finally returned home.
He will have full-time 5-day-a-week home care + Community Rehab for a while (weeks? months?) but gradually the home care will be reduced as he is able to be more independent.
The Community Rehab will likely be 5 days a week too, but just for short periods of time like perhaps an hour or two at most. They will pick him up and drop him off as well. The short time at Community Rehab is because of the fatigue I think I've mentioned earlier. CR will include physio, occupational therapy, and speech therapy (for his aphasia).
• He will need to go for further testing soon because of headache/balance issues.
• He'll have follow-up optical testing because of the double vision ... but he just got new glasses which have helped make things clearer at least.
• He may need orthotics for his left foot because of some muscle/ligament issues there.
• And he'll need treatment for just a little while longer for the DVT he developed in his left arm.
They have said that his memory might improve a little bit more rapidly at home, for a while, because he can see more things which might trigger memories.
He still has a way to go, but I'm hoping all of this will be positive for both of us! Perhaps a bit more of a "normal" routine. For me, for example, it means I can come home at the usual time I used to come home after work, rather than late in the evening. For my husband, things should be quieter and more comfortable.
In case I didn't mention the fatigue factor before ...
It's not: "if I got a solid 8 hours of sleep for a week, I'd feel less fatigued" (although sleep certainly helps!)
It is more like: "I waited till the last weekend before Christmas to do all my Christmas shopping, and decided to hit the biggest, most packed, shopping centre in town for an all-day shopping marathon ... flocks of screaming children, rude annoying people, loud music, bright colours, walking up and down and up and down, trying to decide, stores that don't have what I want, and someone just ran into me with their shopping cart." ... that sort of fatigue. Pounding headache, meltdown fatigue.
But for him, it doesn't take much to reach that point. So he keeps activities short and takes lots of breaks. Visitors are limited to short visits. Choices are limited. And we avoid things like crowded cafes, crowded buses, and other noisy places.

Machka - So glad things are moving forward. I hope you will make some free time for yourself.
My friend with the ligament has found out she has to stay in hospital for two weeks!!!! She's not allowed to put any weight on it. She has no one living with her at home. No downstairs toilet. Eeeeeekkk! I will go and visit her as soon as I can.
This morning I woke up very early and went into the spare room to read a book about running. Decided reading about it wasn't cutting it, so at 6 a m I decided to go out for a run. Wonderful! Listening to my podcasts. "God Only Knows" and "Mozart's Requiem". The early light, the cool air. I only saw the milk man in his cart and one other elderly woman out walking, who said, "Best time of day for it". We currently have a heatwave, so the cool air is a treat.
Came back at 7.15 to find DH picking blackcurrants and gooseberries in the front garden. He decided we have too many blackcurrants to freeze them all, because of the move, so we are going to make jam today or tomorrow with 3 lbs of them.
Had breakfast. Then I rowed for half an hour and did my yoga/pilates/weights session. Will have to do the recumbent bike after lunch for bonus calories. I have a Scandi noir I want to catch up on.
I also put some brown rice in the IP. Going to have the rice, garbanzos and chorizo for lunch with salad bits.
Sending love to all daughters and sons and sisters and brothers. May they all heal and prosper.
