Yesterday and today I have begun my day with this morning meditation. I feel so energized, calm and ready to face whatever comes in the day https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYP_W49o1vQ2

Thursday was such a beautiful fall day, and I was working from home so I took full advantage of the day. I got a ton of housework done while waiting for emails to come in. At lunch, I did a run/walk from my C25K program. Then I worked a bit more, then decided to take another walk in the afternoon. I had almost 17,000 steps for the day! What a great day, and so good for my mental health.
Yesterday I went back to the office, which my anxiety usually hates. And I was pretty anxious all day, and in the afternoon my IBS flared up. Ugh. I stuck out the rest of the afternoon and then went straight home and lay down. I wound up falling asleep and didn't really get up until morning.
Today I have an appointment with my psychiatrist and after that I'm going to hang out with my son. I only see him on weekends, and I cherish everyoment I can spend with him.5 -
I made a list of all the little things that I want to get done around the house and just in life for the weekend. Nothing overly demanding just the nagging little things. Once I make a list, I enjoy checking things off. Last night self care: went to bed earlier because my body and mind were fatigued. Slept for eight hours and woke up before dawn and watched the sun come up.5

Yesterday I took a bath which I've been trying to do for a while but kept putting off. I also decided to start doing the #PFSixWordChallenge as part of my bike journal. I started a health collection so that I can track water and sleep in a more visually pleasing way. I am trying to find a way to track my workouts in a way that feels visually appealing. Today I have a baby shower to go to with my partner. I will be in the car for 2-2.5 hours each way so I am going to look into practicing lettering and how to improve my drawing skills. I also want to get back into writing for myself so I may look at some kind of themed writing prompt. I'm hoping for something similar to the 6 word challenge but longer so that I'm writing each day.3

I am learning to prioritize my energy and put it towards the 20% of things that are going to bring the greatest rewards.
Sometimes you just have to say no.7 -
BBQ with my b.f. and his family. Then went to an art museum and a book sale; as a special treat just for me.4

@dejavuohlala @Orphia itβs called Grid Diary. I use my bullet journal for book notes and memorable quotes. Iβm loving the app for quick daily reflection and on-the-go thoughts!
Friday I did a 16 km run and pushed hard the last 5 km, and did lots of chores and packing for next weekend at Melbourne Marathon.
I went to bed at 7, and woke wide awake on Saturday at 2:30 am. Did lots of drawing and Inktober, studied Greek, caught up with friends' runs, walked parkrun, did chores and tasks, then after lunch I was really, really tired, and starving, so I let myself eat what I felt like, and felt much better. Then I did a new blog post, yay!
At night I set up Grid Diary and filled it in. That took a while, but now it's set up, it should be quicker each day.
I've also just paid for ToDoist Premium so I can see all my completed tasks and set reminders and attach files and lots more.

I know it's Oct 6, but I just joined back on MyFitnesspal, and just came across this thread. I have spent this whole year on a very unexpected journey through DNA testing and genealogy that led me to finding out that who I thought was my father is not, that my full brother is half, finding who my paternal grandparents are and then getting DNA confirmation of who my real father is and that I have 8 siblings as opposed to 3. It's not only been difficult with all of this, but with my old family and my new. It has been very challenging to take care of myself through all of this, even with new medical diagnosis and doctor orders, I just hadn't been able to focus on much of anything besides all of this DNA stuff. It's been almost 2 weeks since getting my final answers, and meeting the first of my real fathers family, and I am just SO ready to get on with the rest of my life. I have made a good start this week with meeting with some people on my care team who will be part of my getting back on track.
I would love to have some added pals, and follow along here and share what steps I take to better care for myself, while listening and learning about new ideas from you all!

Welcome, @Becky_Franke !
What a saga!! That would be stressful, certainly!
However, at the end of the day, blood doesn't necessarily make family. And lifestyle can repress certain 'bad' genes and express 'good' genes.
You are what you make yourself.
Be kind to yourself. Don't punish yourself on a diet of salads and green smoothies. Let yourself eat things you like - just eat less of them. A good diet is one you'll stick to as long as it takes.
I scoff at new year's resolutions. I lost 80 lbs and reached goal in 12 months and I joined on April 11 2015. If I was superstitious, I'd say joining now is a good sign, so yay for you!!
My top recommendation for people beginning on My Fitness Pal is to read the "Most Helpful Posts" Announcements. These are in every Community forum, stuck to the top of the forum page. The ones I'd start with are the ones in the Getting Started forum and the General Health, Fitness and Diet forum.
If you read these posts and educate yourself about how to use MFP to sustainably and happily lose weight, you'll learn from the successful people instead of crash dieting based on Instagram and Facebook advertisers selling fad products and bingeing it all back when the fad invariably fails.
So glad you found the forum and this thread! Curiosity will help you succeed.4 -

Wow what a roller coaster ride! I can understand how taxing paternity issues can be. Good on you for reaching out and making your self care a priority. Iβve sent a friends request. Happy to support and encourage!2 -
Yesterday I made it along to my local parkrun after avoiding it for the last 2 months. I got hugs from the volunteers and told them about the problems I've been having with stress and anxiety. They were really kind and supportive. Got a rubbish time for my 5k, but the whole point was just to go along so it was a great success, especially as I didn't feel any indecision or anxiety about going.
This morning I drew a picture for a friend's birthday. Since it was for someone else, it may not count as self-care, but I often want to do nice things for others and then don't do them because I don't think I'm good enough. So the fact that I did do it was very good for me Hope everyone is having a great weekend!6 -
Went jogging for 1.5 miles and another 2 miles walking. Felt so good. Got out all my stressful emotions and came back home energetic.4

Hello I went on a trip at the end of September so I am just joining the October thread now and so I am posting for the days I was gone:
I am just back from taking 9 days of self cares in a row. My son sent us on a Caribbean cruise.
9/28 reading on the plane
9/29 nice morning with my husband before getting the shuttle to the terminal and time relaxing waiting for our room to be open texting our son, night swim with my husband.
9/30 & 10/1 walks on decks, swims in the pool, listening to string trios
10/2 & 3 swims at beautiful beaches, time at a bar over looking the Caribbean with WiFi letting our son and daughter know we were have fun and good weather despite Tropical Storm Kirk
10/4 margarita and guacamole relaxing before getting back on ship and a nice swim after touring
10/5 having a small afternoon tea together
10/6 a day with my son and daughter in law
A lot of these were with my husband but relationship care can be important to self care when it does both at the same time. When raising our kids we only took trips to see family, last year my family reunion to Hawaii got cut short when my Mom fell and broke her hip and I was elected to be the one to get her settled in a skilled care center before joining the trip half way through. My husband couldn't go at all since he had a huge deadline at work so this was a wonderful break for us.7 -

10/2 - paint nails
10/3 - wax upper lip
10/6 - weighed myself - Onederland!
10/7 - new gym outfit and color hair

Tonight I asked my husband to make dinner. He did a lovely, delicious job and I was able to work on deviating my water bottle whole he cooked. I put new stickers that I got today on it.2

My self care today was making a stop at the beach while I was running errands. I could only stay for 10 minutes but it was nice to get some fresh air and take a break from the usual routine.4

Today, rather than following my fiance and doing whatever he wanted, I said yes to myself and stayed on the computer playing games while he watched a film. Just did an evening gratitude mediation to relax before bed - although the cats are getting hungry so I got headbutted in the face several times while trying to meditate! I feel relaxed, and it's good to know those little balls of fluff love me too!4

Today I went to lunch with a friend and I enjoyed myself. I parked far enough away that I would get a 15 minutes walk beforehand. On the way back, I went past where I parked to a shopping district in the area and picked up some coffee and tea from a shop I really like. The coffee is a holiday flavor that I usually only get once in awhile from around now, maybe a little later, through Christmas time. I also picked up a new tea to try. Ended up getting about 45 minutes of walking in.
I also started working on hand lettering today. About to go to Target for some things and I might see if they have stencils to use in my bullet journal as well as some inexpensive watercolors and brushes.6 -
I ticked off some items from my to do list early so the rest of the week will not be hectic. Procrastination and I need to break up.3

I'm adjusting to a couple of new medications right now so it's all about the self-care. Keeping a close eye on how I react to the meds, as I have a really bad track record with side effects. So far, nothing major, but it's been my experience that I have to give it at least a week before I can decide if it's going to work or not.
Today, I woke up early as I usually do on Tuesday. I have to send out the company newsletter before everyone gets in to work, which means I'm up and at my computer by 6:30 am. Usually, I go back to bed for a while after I send everything out, but today I didn't feel like going back to bed so I took a long shower, blow-dried my hair, put in all my earrings (7 of them), and even put on a little bit of makeup. I never have time to do any of these things in the morning usually because I sleep so late.
It felt nice having a bunch of time to actually get ready in the morning. Perhaps I'll make a habit out of it.7 -
Some days I come in here, Zen out from all the lovely ideas, like them to bits, and that adds an item to my daily list of nice things I've been doing thanks to so many lovely MFP people.7

I had a good chat at lunch4

Today I started working on my shopping matter list. This should make my life easier when it's done. I also went running with my husband. I planned an overnight camping trip for myself. I'm going to work on conquering my fear of being alone in the woods at night. I also joined a 7 day mini fitness challenge as well as talked to a personal trainer.4

Not sure if it counts as self-care, but a little achivement from yesterday: I tagged a friend who I haven't seen for ages in a vegan recipe post I thought she'd like on Facebook. After months of avoiding people and hoping that no one would notice I exist, I finally want to reach out and connect with people. My friend was really excited about the recipe too. Also had some fun and chat with friends in the evening.
This morning I chose to get up early (even though it's my work from home day) and go to the gym. We have to take one of the cats to the vets today for an xray as he's lost a tooth, so I'm going to do a positivity meditation so that I'm calm and relaxed for that. My fiance seems quite worried about the kitty, so I'll do my best to be a calm, supportive and positive presence.2
