Did a run 2 days ago and forgot to post here. It was really cold, but I managed it. My food hasn't been great this weekend, and Canadian Thanksgiving isn't going to help. We're combining that and my father's birthday party so I'm going to be putting almost all of my calories into dinner. I hope everyone has a lovely Canadian Thanksgiving if you celebrate it, and good luck to anyone running the Chicago Marathon!

@Avidkeo
Strength training is great, which is why some people do that and nothing else.
Hence, you'll get a full range of replies ranging from "do all the lifting!" to me where I get my strength from handstands and arm balances.
Don't feel like you're not doing enough if you're running. You might only need upper body, IMHO. Runners get so much guilt inflicted on them by the gym crowd.

I got to be 1 in 10,000 people or something. More test fun, no alcohol for the next month or two, and a low-fat menu (maybe I'll be forced to get my weight moving downward again). I've been feeling sick, but woke up slightly more energetic and my wound is healing nicely (and getting super itchy). I decided to attempt a run. A minute in, I realized it would be a walk/run. Did 2.5-3 min runs with 1 min walk breaks. I hope this bad day was not due to losing fitness so quickly but just because I'm not 100%.
@RunRachelleRun You were cut open. That takes a lot of energy to recover from. Never mind that you were asleep when that happened. That doesn't cancel out the wound.
Plus you have the added healing required for your poor liver.
Hang out in the self-care thread and savour this time needed to look after yourself. Hugs.4 -
2 runs today. Ran out of time on the first, so did a 2nd run later:
12.89 for first run, 6.71 in evening
ETA: Ticker must not be updated. It says 17 miles here now, but should be 37. Maybe it will update in time.8 -
@ddmom0801 - I thought of you when I read this story in Runner's World 😊
https://www.runnersworld.co.za/motivation/can-smiling-make-you-a-better-runner/
My husband thinks running is stupid and will often comment that "you never see anyone smiling while they're running, they always look miserable." Well. sometimes I do smile just to prove him wrong lol. Not that he can actually see me or anything.
I'm pretty sure the R in RBF stands for "running".5 -
October 2018
Goal 1: Melbourne Marathon Sunday October 14
Goal 2: Draw every day for Inktober 2018
Goal 3: Handstand practice every day
Goal 4: 2 new blog posts
All going well!
Runs:
Oct 02 – 07.0 km
Oct 03 – 07.1 km fartleks
Oct 05 – 16.0 km fast finish
Really pushed hard on my last run, on Friday. Saturday afternoon I was really, really, tired and very, very hungry. So I ate what I felt like and that made me feel better. I managed to then do a blog post (about finding your own reasons to run), so yay!
Now for a restful week before Melbourne Marathon.9 -
@RespectTheKitty You are really thriving lately!
@shanaber I think friend has Morton's neuroma. KT tape would do *kitten* all. Go see a doctor. Hugs. Hopefully Dr Google is just doing the usual paranoia job on his reader and it could just be a niggle that will get better of its own accord.
@Scott6255 Yay, you're back in black!!
Probably more of you I should touch base with, but no time. Hugs, MFPMRCers!

We did a mile. A run walk mile
Foster dog needs work on the leash. I was supposed to do more but i need to do 16 tomorrow and my legs have been niggling me all week.
See what tomorrow brings and the next week brings.
Since i don't have a vest yet, I'll be doing loops. Hopefully, speed demon for the first part and get a fresh dog for the second.10 -

Oct 6: Left Bank Festival 5k
Looks like we made the right decision to stick to the 5k rather than the 10K since it was 94 F at gun time, humid, and no shade, also WE WON STUFF Y'ALL! My husband won his AG and I won female masters. That's the first time winning anything for both of us.
So this was a smallish race, about a hundred people, and the timing although professionally done was gun time, not chip time, which is something I haven't encountered before. But I HAVE raced horses and I know a few tricks about the mental game behind racing. My husband and I had walked part of the course enough to see that the first half mile was mostly shaded, a paved road passing under railroad bridges and trees dripping with kudzu, and then the rest of the course was unrelenting sun passing through pancake flat fields on a rough gravel road. Out and back, and then up a steep corkscrew to the finish. So I figured I didn't have to run all that fast, I just had to convince the rest of the ladies in my AG that I was working harder than they wanted to work. And that's what we did. We lined up right in front like people who are fast, and we took off at a sub 9 minute pace which we completely can't maintain for a whole 5k, and apart from the handful of people faster than that who pulled ahead, everyone else tried to keep up with us then gave up. Then we slowed down to an 11 minute mile when we hit the brain baking fields, and sauntered on. I figured nobody was gonna feel like running hard enough to try to pass us in those fields, and I was right. No one did pass us, except for a couple of long legged young men who should have been in front of us in the first place. Then coming back we hit the shade again and picked back up to a 9 minute pace for the finish. One teenage girl in a track team outfit passed us on the corkscrew when she decided to wake up (when she got going she was much faster than we were, I'm guessing she had some reason for running easy) and that was it. 31:27, average pace 10:08 - which is not fast for us but is faster than I expected given the heat and gravel footing - 17th and 18th overall, 7th female overall, masters winner. Of the six women faster, five were teenagers, and the overall female winner was a 46 year old woman from out of state who was running 8 minute miles, so, out of my league.
Then we went down the hill to the catfish festival and ATE ALL THE CATFISH. Seriously, how do you log "judging a catfish cooking contest"? There was also free beer, and live music.
After the awards we walked across the Mississippi River from Arkansas to Memphis and back, which is about a mile at this part of the river. The festival was held on the Arkansas side, and one of the cool things is how they have fixed up the old 1916 Harahan railway bridge to be a foot bridge, while preserving the two train bridges and some of the old rotten woodwork and metalwork so you can see them. We saw a barge pass under us, and watched a riverboat go by with a tour guide blaring. Watched the sun set from the bridge.Unfortunately we don't have a great camera phone and my husband always puts his finger over the lens when he tries to use it in bright daylight. But we got a couple of pictures anyway.21 -

Also quoting this! Well done guys!!
I thought I had posted this morning but apparently not lol.
I did a total body strength workout today, 10 mins each for upper, lower and abs. @orphia thanks for that, I actually needed to hear that because I do feel guilt when Im not doing "the minimum amount" blah blah blah haha. I will try to get in what I can, because I believe its worth it, but if I really just can't then I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
No run today, rest day.6 -

@rheddmobile so awesome you both won awards! Congrats.
I on the other hand would not win any navigation award. Drove down to Houston to visit my daughter. She live directly across from a huge trail system that goes all over the city. Only planned 3 miles for rehab, but when I finished, I had no idea where I was. Had to pull out the phone and discovered I was 2 miles from the apartment. Ran back because I knew if I just walked back I wouldn't make it in time for church. Went slow and in the grass so probably ok.10 -
C25K W1D3 done. I don't recommend running post beer night. Pre beer night, maybe, but not after. Ouch.
I missed the first walking cue so ran straight through that and just kept going for the second run. I paid better attention and didn't miss another cue. I'm ready for week 2!12 -
10/1 - 3
10/2 - 4
10/3 - rest
10/4 - 4
10/5 - 4
10/6 - xc meet ran 5 miles around course I’m not counting

Cotton is ready to pick.

Arrived home from vacation last night. My knee finally feels great, and we had a day without torrential downpour (pretty much the entire vacation), so I went out for a run.
I have decided to have a break from the long runs of marathon training, so I think my focus through the end of the year will be to focus on improving my 5K and 10K times and paying more attention to my heart rate zones, as well as being more consistent with strength training. I know I originally said my goal was 40 miles, but I am going to cut back to 30 so that I can be more focused on how I am running.
10/7: 2 miles
Total: 2/30 miles13 -
10/1 = 3 miles
10/2 = vacation
10/3 = 5 miles hiking on vacation
10/4 = vacation
10/5 = 3 miles
10/6 = 10 miles
10/7 = 11 miles
October goal miles = 120 / 32 miles-to-date
Upcoming Races:
10/27 = Hill Country Halloween Half Marathon
11/22 = Georgetown Turkey Trot
1/26/19 = Miami Tropical 5K
1/27/19 = Miami Marathon
3/10/19 = ZOOMA half (potentially)7 -
Nice slow 10.5k today. Up to 37.5k for the month.6
-
I keep wanting to be like "it wasn't a PR" but I realized that trail and road are different so yup PR. 😂
Was glutened last night so poor puppy doesn't get his walk/park time and I don't get my run.
I'm on the couch, in a ball trying to drink some coffee. Woke up at 3 am to a storm and burning stomach. Slight migraine residue. Doesn't seem like it will be a full blown migraine. No desire to eat. Fun times.10
