My right knee was hurting going up stairs a couple of times today.
That's not supposed to happen, I've got a HM on Sunday!
@Orphia I believe that's called Taper Twinge's we are so in tune/nervous that every little thing gets amplified. Hang in there.

@juliet3455 and @Scott6255 Thanks, I hope so! Hard to tell! It feels worse today when walking, but the race is also getting closer!

We’re closing on the house next Wednesday!!!!!!! Soon I will be a first-time homeowner with not one but FOUR bathrooms (three showers!), a walk-in closet completely dedicated to exercise gear, and still only two blocks away from dedicated trails. Unrelated to running, the house also has a four-season heated sun-porch, air conditioning, original hardwood from the early 1900s, an on-demand water heater (no more worrying about using the faucet when one of us is in the shower!), and, as previously mentioned, more than one bathroom. I’ve never lived anywhere with more than one bathroom (other than dorms) so I’m very excited about that part.

    Oh my green-faced envy!!!

Yesterday I got to run 3.7 miles. I believe it was my first run below freezing (maybe not counting a couple of runs last winter) and my first run in my new Peregrines. I’d originally left the house in my Ghosts because it looked like the snow was melted on the sidewalks, but then I turned the corner and saw the fallen leaves coated in ice and changed my mind.

Like the Ghosts, the Peregrines felt really lightweight and comfortable, just a lot grippier.

I’m considering not running with headphones when there might be ice -

I think crew or knee socks will be my best bet, but ug so spendy, and I need to watch the cash flow because…

    @MegaMooseEsq Congrats on the House.
I live wayyyyy north of everybody in this fine group and just switched over to my Peregrine 8's ( not the ice version ) for the winter. The traction on the snow/ice is fantastic so the 8-ice will be even better.
Headphones : never in winter - with the extra clothing/headgear I want to hear the world around me - ATV's racing down a trail, snowmobiles, offroad 4x4, etc. Also want to hear the sound of my foot touching down in the snow - crunchy :) No sound :|:/:o>:) = potential ice = danger

For winter crew - knee running socks consider Darn Tough or Smart Wool. I actually buy most of my winter kit at the local ski-snowboard shop since keeping people warm and comfortable s their specialty.

I have only been knocked down by ice twice, on the same run less than 1km into a 20k planned day.
About 200m apart at road/trail intersections where the vehicles had polished the road to a beautiful hard white ice. The trails were fine it was the transition from trail to crosswalk - Called it a day - walked back to the coffee shop and pre-paid for the group.

On the topic of office views - since I am in the tech department our office is located in the center of the building to protect from " exterior damage " ( ie car accidentally driving through a wall, vandalism, fire etc ) putting the building out of commission. Zero windows, Entry doors offset by 20 feet around a corner, double layer of cinder block walls - exterior ones filled with concrete - interior with sand. Should have seen the fun electricians had trying to get new conduit and cables through the walls.

Thank you - I'm very excited. Exhausted, but excited. That is a really good point about being able to hear your footsteps. I don't have to worry about motor vehicles where I run, but between focus and footsteps, I'm happy to hang up the headphones until clearer weather.

Thanks for the suggestion on Smartwool, too - REI has PHD run light elite crew (word salad!) at 50% off, so it's looks like a little more of my cash is being put into this "cheap" hobby. :) ETA: Oh fart, the Smartwool insulated skirt is 30% off. There goes my spending money for the month!

I know, right!? The basement is partially finished as a guest suite with a 3/4 bath and walk-in closet but we have plenty of other space for a guest room so we're making it into a gym, complete with "locker room". One of the things I'm going to miss about our current house is having two closets in the master bedroom, but moving all my running stuff downstairs will definitely help clear up some space.

Darn Tough and Smart Wool are both great. I have a couple pair of Darn Tough I run in durring the witner, and a big fluffy pair of Smart Wool that I wear walking around cold houses in the winter. :)

I can't even imagine running on ice without slipping. The only time I had to deal with that was when I lived in Indiana for graduate school. I was the only one who slipped. No one else in my running club did. I still remember a day where the preceding day it was in the 40's and foggy, then that night went to the 20's. The next day, the sidewalk looked clean but the slightest bit damp. Turned out there was an invisible, thin layer of ice everywhere! But no one else had trouble walking on it.

2.16 miles hills in the dark in the snow. Should have done more, but I just felt like I needed to get home and take care of some other stuff. Also, I was sweating pretty badly because it was just below freezing and a down coat was just too much.

    exercise.png

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is too warm running in down when it’s right around freezing. After yesterday I’m thinking to save the coat for when it hits 20 or so.

I'm all for pictures of wounds and surgery too - bring it on! :)

    Yes, thanks, @RunRachelleRun and @7lenny7 !

Mind you, Mum just had surgery on her prolapsed bowel yesterday. I must admit I didn't ask for pics.

I was so excited today though because this morning during my circuit training group I managed to do a pull-up for probably the first time in my entire life. It was really more of a jumping start into a pull-up but I was able to catch myself and hang and lower down slowly. I felt pretty proud of myself and my former noodle arms.

@katharmonic That's fantastic! Well done, you!

How are you feeling after your first marathon? It can take several weeks to get back up to longer distance, so don't rush things.

I did 26 km 27 days after mine, and it was pretty tough.

    November Running Totals (miles)

11/1 – 7.58 warmup, speed work, cool down
    11/2 – rest day
    11/3 – 12.08 paced run
    11/4 – 9.43 warmup, 6K XC race, cool down
    11/5 – rest day
11/6 – 10.10 commute, warmup, speed work, cool down
    11/7 – 6.30 easy
    11/8 – 7.42 warmup, tempo intervals

November running total to date – 52.91

Nominal November mileage goal: 160 miles

Real Goals: Avoid injury. Run well in the Pete Glavin XC series. Have fun at the Syracuse Half and Race with Grace 10K. Build base toward the start of Boston training.

Today's notes – I had considered skipping the second speed workout of the week; but the temperature was just a bit cooler, I needed the peer pressure from the club to get out and run, and I figured I could do a pretty easy workout this evening.

So it was an evening to wear light tights instead of shorts, and my lightest winter running hat instead of a hat with a brim. Ran my 2 mile warmup with a relatively new club member, who is still full of testosterone. He really shouldn't be running his warmup at the pace I'm comfortable with, so I dialed it back a couple times when I noticed him breathing harder than he should need to on a warmup.

The workout on the board was a 40 minute continual run: 10 easy, 10 T, 5 easy, 5 T, 10 easy. I could do that; but I had already decided to do the traditional workout for the Thursday before running a half marathon on the weekend: 20 mintues easy, 10 minutes half marathon pace, 10 minutes easy. Same duration, not as much effort; and right now I'm looking to avoid pushing myself to the limit.

I was thinking an 8 minute mile for easy and a 7 minute mile for half marathon pace, but the campus loop has some ups and downs that make running an even pace challenging. I ran easy by feel, tried to target 7:00 for HMP, and ended up putting forth T level of effort for part of that 10 minutes. Look at the results when I get done: Easy 10 at 7:50 average, 10 HMP at 6:52 average, easy 10 at 7:38 average. While I'd like to run a half marathon at an average pace of 6:52, I don't think I'm in shape to maintain that for 13 miles. Oh, well. I felt good after the workout, and didn't trash my body. I'll take what the day gives me next Sunday.

@MegaMooseEsq - having just moved what was, at the time, 300lbs of free weights... I put 5lb plates and under in boxes. Otherwise, boxes get deceptively heavy, in a hurry. I had a pile of my other plates in the moving van, and the bar went in with the disassembled cage bits. But I self moved. I have NO idea what a moving company expects. I guess I kind of assumed figuring that out was their problem, and why you pay them??!

Yeah, my husband says I should just trust the movers to figure it out, but that's not really my style - I'd much rather stress out about it until I come up with a plan! If we were paying them to pack, that would be one thing, but we're doing the packing and are just paying for the moving part. I ended up buying some heavy duty canvas bags on Amazon that are supposed to hold up to 50 pounds each and am going to see how those work.

@PastorVincent do you have good returns on Instagram ads? I'm working on a Facebook ads funnel to test next year. I've never really tried them but took a class so I feel a bit more confident in running them.

Eh, no, but I am not really good at this promotion stuff. I was surprised to see my ad on Instagram actually. I did not even know i was running one! Turns out if you run adds on FB, they also show up on Instagram. Who knew? Not me. Hence, see my first comment. ;)

Ah, yes. It's an auto check but you can un-check it in Facebook Ads Manager.

Skipped my other 2-miler tonight in order to pack. And transfer all the photos from my last weekend trip from camera to computer/lightroom. Because who else schedules a trip to Death Valley the day after a marathon?

    RE: Running on ice
Just don't mistake ice for a puddle. You step gingerly only to have your entire foot soaked in ice cold water. Speaking from experience (I may have been a tad tired - it was around mile 18 of 20 and I gave up so ended around 19 LOL)

Congratulations @ddmom0801 on the new baby!
Congratulations @MegaMooseEsq on the awesome new house!

On the working from home discussion - I worked for 10 years give or take and loved it! My DH also worked from home about the 2nd 5 years. I know it wouldn't work for everyone but it worked for us. I traveled a lot but when I was home we each had our own offices in the house so we had our separate spaces. I loved the freedom in my schedule (running when it fit in), not needing the wardrobe for going into work everyday, having access to good food and no need to eat out. I stayed at my company because I could work from home even when my job became so stressful. Like @juliet3455 retirement was the perfect answer!

I was up early and headed out to run in the 25F cold. Thought this So CA temp adjusted gal and pup were going to freeze but ended up dressed perfectly and Hobbes did well in his Ruffwear jacket. I had my long tights, a long sleeve tech shirt and a down vest with a headband to cover my ears. I was wishing initially that I had my gloves but after the 1st mile or so when I turned around facing the sun my hands were fine. I also had a timing issue in that the clock in the room was apparently not reset for the time change so I thought I needed to get back but my phone and watch let me know I had an hour still so we continued on. I was excited that my pace was actually pretty good even though there were many slowdowns for parking lot and road crossings. I did run more of this than I probably should have and my foot hurt but I decided to h$ll with it and just ran. Other than the foot it felt amazing!

I haven't posted any miles this month so far. I think this is my lowest in a long time but hopefully I will get back at it after I see the podiatrist next week. In the meantime I am going to enjoy running when I can.
