Got my race packet and bought two long sleeved running shirts for ten bucks. And I got the LAST PACKAGE OF LETTUCE in Cordova! Seriously, there was one giant package of baby spinach and a small box of arugula and that was it. Everything else has been removed from the shelves or was sold out.

In other news, I noticed while I was out that my chest felt tight and had a noticeable catch in it. Worried that I was coming down with something. Got home, suddenly chest feels fine. Looked up the news, and oh... it's the smoke from California.

Look at that pathway, it goes right through Memphis!

I have mild asthma which is fine as long as I avoid allergens and sleep with an air filter running. It's been so long since I had an issue that I had forgotten what it felt like. Outside the horizon is visibly hazy. If it's bad enough here for me to feel it within an hour in a car, not exercising, I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like for the poor people nearer to the fires, much less those in the fire zone. It's just terrifying to think what it must be like to have asthma in California right now.
@rheddmobile - Congrats on actually getting some lettuce!
The smoke drift is pretty incredible. I know we get a lot here (So CA) and that @RunsOnEspresso does too but never thought about where it went beyond AZ. My husband has really bad allergies and asthma and has been wheezing and coughing for weeks between the dust from the winds and the smoke. His meds help some but there really isn't much we can do besides running the electronic air cleaner and keeping the house closed up which he hates!

We haven't had an noticeable air quality issues lately. At least not that I've noticed. I don't recall it going much past us in years past but I am often wrong on this stuff 😂

Slow 5k this evening on the treadmill in preparation for tomorrow’s 5k race. It turns out it’s going to be approximately 15 degrees F at the starting line tomorrow with some wind. I’ve never ran outside in weather below 30 degrees so I’m pretty nervous. When it’s that cold out, what do you guys do for clothing/layering?
    11/2: 4.1 miles
    11/3: 3.3 miles
    11/5: 2.4 miles
    11/7: 5.1 miles
    11/10: 6.5 miles!!!
    11/14: 3.5 miles
    11/16: 3.3 miles
    11/17: 5.2 miles
    11/21: 3.1 miles
    Cumulative for November: 36.5/50 miles
Upcoming race: Thursday 11/22 Feaster Five Thanksgiving Road Race: 5 miles(now a 5k due to weather)

Quality wicking layer close to the body and breathable layer on top. On my hands I wear glomitts ( a glove/mitten hybrid) and I wear a wool watch cap on my head. I have a beard to keep my face and neck warm.
Remember you have trained for a longer distance, so you can dress a little heavier with no real impact on speed.
My personal preference is to be a little warmer than I need to be; if you get chilled you could pick up a cold, the flu, or a cold weather injury like frostbite.
No matter what, run and have fun!!!

I'm running a Hot Chocolate 15k in February. At the finish you get cup of melted gourmet (at least they claim) chocolate and marshmallows to dunk in it.

I love runs with rewards :p

I'm training to do the Hot Chocolate 15K December in Tampa. It's the day after my 50th birthday so i figure it's my gift to myself!

Let me know how it is :)

I’m feeling cautiously comfortable with 10ks now and have 2 months to extend to 15.

I can’t wait to see your jacket!!!!!

@AlphaHowls -do you work at the Elephant sanctuary??? We follow the elecams from time to time!

No, my elephants are ears (plants). They are very heavy and I just call them my elephants. I do A LOT of yard work around my home.

Lol - there is an elephant sanctuary not too far from you. I was actually really jealous for a minute!!!!

4 miles treadmill tonight. Not going to reach goal this month, but that's alright. I've switched to losing body fat, and that means slowing down and cutting back on mileage for a bit.

I had to go look at the jacket and it is really nice! Love that it is a full zip and the merlot color is pretty. I have 2 of the previous 'jackets' but they are pullovers and one is more of a sweatshirt. I like them but the full zip jacket looks much nicer.

I was wishy washy all day about going for a run or not. I walked the dog this afternoon and decided that was enough of the cold. I wanted to go to yoga at the gym though, so compromised with a treadmill run before that.

Sort of dreading the turkey trot tomorrow. Supposed to be the "coldest thanksgiving ever" here as it is across much of the northeast. The one I'm doing has 4k and 8k options, and I'm guessing the 4k is going to be plenty. It's also cross-country so I'm hoping the trail will not be too awful.

I've just sampled the pecan pie truffles that I made to bring to my friend's house tomorrow and I feel like I've opened the floodgates of my Thanksgiving binge a bit too early.

Have a good Thanksgiving tomorrow everyone! Stay warm, pace yourselves, and enjoy!

Yep, I'm not looking forward to that one little bit. I'm supposed to be doing the parkrun Turkey Trot, but am very tempted to stay in bed instead.

Well, my wife just signed us up for the "Danish Dash 5K" - It is a student project at my son's high school. I am sure ti will be very well organized and all that.

I guess if it is all fat out of shape parents running it I have a chance to win? LOL

But will there be danish at the end?

YEs, but I will not be able to have it... the whole gluten thing. :(

Nearly forgot, I have the perfect picture for you.

5k this morning, wanted more but ran out of time. Garmin gave me a "cold weather" badge for running in freezing temperatures. It also told me that I could get a hot weather badge for running in temps over 100F (38C). Really Garmin? Do you pay for heatstroke treatment too?

Hmmm, my post disappeared. Was it the negative comment of using a certain app we're all on and how because of that I know that the giant delicious thing they're handing out at the finish line isn't offset by the run... or because of the unhealthy eating practice I admitted to (also related to said giant finish line scrumption)? :D

Good luck @bubblegum2fitness. You will do great, and it will be over before you know it.

@girlinahat I wish it had been about the book’s characters or content. That may have been interesting! It was because three of the girls didn’t read the book, and the girl who picked it got upset and offended and overreacted but verbally attacked only one of the girls, who had just joined. She was feisty, and there were a lot of choice words exchanged. It almost got physical. It was a most unusual book club, like nothing I had ever seen and not at all nerdy and bookish as you might expect (and how it usually is).

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

I was going to go for a run today, but we're traveling this morning. So... I'm going to go tomorrow! That'll get me my third run this week. Trying to check in more at the end of this month.
