Penny – could I ask you to please post the link again for the advent star? For some reason, I seemed to have missed it. Thanks
No time to chat today. Must get ready to fly down to the mainland. It'll take me longer than usual to get to where I can catch the bus to the airport, partly because the hotel I usually catch it at is closed for renovation, partly because even more snow has fallen. Hooray! We usually only get two or three major snowfalls per winter. This is one of them.

My sister-in-law posted this and I thought it was good ...
Nov 1 - smell. My roses.
Nov 2 - technology. Social media and staying connected with family and friends.
Nov 3 - colour. Blue. The blue of the mouth of the river/bay/start of the ocean out my window. The blue of the sky. My new blue sleeping top that was nice and comfy last night.
Nov 4 - food ... cheese. I ate a lot of grilled cheese sandwiches when my husband was in hospital. They were my comfort food. Also cheese has calcium which I think I need. Unfortunately, cheese does tend to be a bit high in calories so I shouldn't eat too much of it. But anything cheese-y is comforting.
Nov 5 - sound. I like listening to the waves and the birds, but I think the sound I'm most grateful for today is my husband's voice. Just the fact that we can talk to each other again.
Nov 6 - "What in nature are you grateful for?" ... That's hard to narrow down to one thing. Oxford dictionary describes nature as "the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth". I am grateful for all of it. I find that getting out into any sort of nature helps to relieve stress.
Nov 7 - "What memory are you grateful for?" ... Another one with so many choices!!! Recently, I've been grateful for two memories. 1) June 2017 ... my husband and I had a wonderful visit to Canada and did several things to make great memories ... hiking, cycling, visiting my family. I clung onto those memories during the months he was in hospital. 2) When I was 9 years old, my family moved away from where my grandmother lived. One of of the last days there, my grandmother took me to her window and showed me a full moon outside. She told me that on every full moon, we could both look at it and know that even though we were far apart, we were both looking at the same moon. That's a memory which has stuck with me all these years, and every time I see a full moon, I think of my grandmother. She's 97 years old ... but not doing so well ... so I've been thinking of her a lot. And I've also been very glad that my husband and I were able to see her when we visited Canada in June 2017.
Nov 8 - "What book are you most grateful for?" That's easy ... The Bible.
I've enjoyed reading all your memories.
Love the discussion about books!
Nov 9 - "What place are you most grateful for?" This is not an easy one for me because I don't have the sense of "home" that many people have. I've moved too much for that.
So ... I've had to give this one some thought. What place?
Well ...
I'm grateful for our current house. It's comfortable enough. It's not very big so it's fairly easy to manage. And it has a great garden which my husband has been able to work in since returning home from his accident. It is also close to a couple beaches, which is nice.
Nov 10 - Taste! Hmmm ... salt. In the "Do you crave sweet or salty" discussion, I fall on the "salty" side.
As it happens, I have a diminished sense of taste and smell for whatever reason, so I divide foods into the basic tastes: sweet, salty, sour or bitter, and from there it's harder to distinguish precise flavours. Although, I do seem to have some odd tastes like, for example, meat and tomato taste metallic to me, and I don't like that. If I salt them well, the metallic taste goes away and they taste salty, which is OK.
Then, one of the side effects of my husband's accident is that he has lost most of his sense of taste and smell. He has regained a little bit, and they say it should return very gradually. But he'll comment that dinner has no flavour, and I'll think, "It just tastes salty to me. Is there supposed to be more flavour than that?"
Nov 11 - What holiday are you grateful for? Christmas!!!
I've always loved Christmas. I even picked up 3 Christmas CDs yesterday. I like having a decent amount of time off ... not just one day ... so I can get things done. I like all the decorations. I like the music. I like the services and celebrations.
Nov 12 - Texture. Smooth. Very, very smooth. Clothing with no texture. Textured clothing is unwearable. Smooth clothing is good.
Nov 13 - Abilities. Right now, it would have to be organisation. While I feel like I'm in the midst of a chaotic whirlwind (and have been for the past 8 months) and I don't feel very organised, surprisingly enough, stuff is getting done.
Maybe I should include things like endurance and tenacity ... "skills" I've honed from my long distance cycling carrying over to "real life".
Nov 14 - Sight. What sight am I grateful for? The ever-changing view out the window of our house looking over the bay and the surrounding hills. Right now it's all grey and misty but it still looks good.
Nov 15 - Season. The season I am most grateful for is summer. I love summer. I'd love it if the year were divided so that there was 1 month of winter, 1 month of spring, 2 months of autumn, and 8 months of real summer weather. We're coming into summer here and I appreciate each and every summer-like day.
Nov 16 - What about your body are you grateful for?
Sometimes I think ... "less and less" these days because I'm literally falling apart.
But ... I'm grateful for my legs which are one of my main methods of transportation.
Nov 17 - What knowledge are you grateful for? -- The tacit knowledge of cycling. Being able to ride a bicycle. It has taken me all over the world. It's how my husband and I met. It is stress relief. And it is part of my husband's healing process.
https://www.brainline.org/blog/getting-back-bike/what-brain-derived-neurotrophic-factor-and-why-you-should-care
Nov 18 - What piece of art are you grateful for?
That's a difficult one. I've taken an Art History course, and enjoyed it very much. And I like going to galleries. But I haven't really felt a connection to any particular pieces.
However, the one that is probably my favourite piece is:
Umberto Boccioni, Dynamism of a Cyclist, 1913
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamism_of_a_Cyclist
Nov 19 - What touch are you grateful for?
My husband's hugs!! This was something I missed so much when he was in hospital!!
Nov 20 - Who in your life are you grateful for?
The obvious choice would be my husband, and I am grateful to have him in my life still. However, I have been very grateful for my parents who have been so supportive through the challenges this year.
Nov 21 - What song are you most grateful for?
My taste in music changes with my moods but I've been listening to this one a lot this year ...
Jesus Loves Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osWLvRlniNo
Nov 22 - What story are you most grateful for?
The Christmas Story.
I have some of it memorised, and have done since I was about 6 years old. But I can hear it over and over.
Nov 23 - Tradition.
I had to think about this a bit because I don't think of myself as a person with many traditions, partly because I don't have children to pass them on to. But I do have a few around Christmas which I've inherited from my parents:
Decorations on or very close to December 1.
Open Presents on Christmas Eve.
Read the Christmas Story, mentioned above.
Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day.
Listening to Handel's Messiah.
Watching Scrooge with Alistair Sims.
I'm grateful for all of my Christmas traditions ... they make December a special month.
Nov 24 - What challenge am I grateful for?
Ha! I've had a lot of challenges to choose from so I had to think about this one today.
I decided on this ...
The challenge I am grateful for is my education. I'm a perpetual student. I've attended courses of some sort just about every year since I was about 5 years old. I'm grateful that I've been able to do that. It has been challenging ... sometimes more than other times. And although I've not actually gone directly into the fields in which I've been educated, it has all contributed to get me where I am now.
And it keeps me thinking and learning.
Nov 25 - What moment this week are you grateful for?
Finishing my 10K run. I slogged my way up the hill, and as I came down the other side toward the finish line, my husband was there waiting for me with a big smile.
Nov 26 - What form of expression are you most grateful for?
I wasn't sure exactly what this means, but I think we can make it mean whatever we want. So the form of expression I'm most grateful for is the written word. That includes books to read, posts I type, emails, letters, and everything.
Nov 27 - What small thing that you use daily are you grateful for?
I use a lot of small things daily, and I'm thankful for them all. It's hard to decide! Toothbrush, lipgloss, undies, water glass, phone ...
I think I'll go with glasses. Without them, I couldn't see! I could still read a book, but I couldn't work on my computer, see to walk around, drive ...
Yes, I'm very thankful for my glasses.
Nov 28 - What small thing that happened today are you grateful for?
Well ... the fact that the brain cyst they discovered in my head is benign is pretty good!!
Machka in Oz
Nov 29 - What friend/family member are you grateful for today?
My grandmother. My grandmother has always loved me and I her ... even when we've been on the other side of the world. At 97, she's not doing so well and I've been thinking about her a lot lately. She's been a fixture in my life all these years, and I'm grateful for that.
Machka in Oz5 -
Regarding wool:
When I was younger, I used to be able to wear any sort of wool ... then gradually, I couldn't.
But I could wear merino wool! I have a beautiful black merino pullover which I've had for years and which still looks great. I've even debated about getting some merino wool dresses ... but didn't because of the cost.
And then in 2016, I got the measles ... and around about that time my hot flashes really "warmed up" ... and I could no longer wear merino.
M in Oz4 -
I wandered around several shops and looked at Christmas stuff - decorations and things - but didn't buy anything. Just not in the mood.
Last year, I bought some new decorations and made a couple wreaths ... but I don't think I'll be doing that this year.
M in Oz4 -
Morning, afternoon, and evening, all,
Actually got on my phone last night to let y'all know it was a great experience yesterday, even for this introvert. But pressed the "Done" button instead of "Post" button again, and lost my post, so gave up. Got lots of hugs, and watched as their team interacted, participated where I could, and enjoyed the vast majority of it. Only got a little nerved up when I was introduced, and that was short and sweet, just said thank you for the welcome, was so glad to be part of working for girls in Arkansas, and that I felt like I was in the right place. Got an ovation for my arrival, and although I know a couple internal people applied for the job, it seemed heartfelt and welcoming all the way around. I'd recommend starting at the holidays with any job - people are all full of Christmas cheer! I did not wear pajamas, but many didn't, so wasn't too out of place. As a team, there was very little of the gathering in little groups and talking about the others... some, but not lots. It's a good sign, lots of flow around the room, few cliques.
Rori - I remember when you lost your friend, as well. I always think of tears as our tribute to those lost, a tiny sacrifice of part of ourselves to honor their passing and remember their presence in our lives. Then I had to look up trigger thumb, only to realize I have that issue in the middle fingers on each hand, just never knew what to call it. One thing that's always helped when it's at its worst is taking Icy Hot or Flexall, one of the muscle creams that light up all the nerves, massaging it into the area, and when the tingling sensation is at its height, stretching the finger to it's utmost, and then bending it a lot. Smells to high heaven, but takes away the "catch and pop" painful sensation for quite some time. Works for me, anyway.
For those who commented on Corey building the desks for me, I have to admit it's lovely having a man who's handy around the house. He's a mechanic at work, and getting him to fix anything mechanical is a whole 'nother story... Oddly enough, though, I'm the one who's been teaching our son how to use a power saw, etc.
And, for #29, friend or family member you're grateful for: It's been amazing, having our son John here... and he's done SO much work on clearing the land around the house. It's been tremendously good for his anxiety, as he just goes out and hacks down another tree if he starts feeling anxious or worried. He's nearly got the land all clear for his dad's planned orchard in the spring, and I couldn't be more pleased.
Also pleased, as he's making plans and following through for his future. He just paid up front for his housing for college--he'll be headed to Oregon in March, starting with two years at the Southwestern Oregon Community College to get his Associates, and then transferring up to Oregon State afterward to go through their fermentation sciences program. His GI Bill should pay for his tuition, books and housing (which includes a meal plan) at college, so he's really thinking this one out, not depending on anyone else to make anything happen for him. Just happy that he's got a future, after dealing with the issues long distance just a year ago while he was in Denver and feeling suicidal.
Got to go make a sandwich for the hubby for lunch, and get my own kiester in gear to get a few more things nailed down for my current job and dealt with. Next week Wednesday is my exit interview. Working on how to diplomatically introduce a few things that could have been different, while understanding that it is most likely going to fall on deaf ears. Apparently, the statistics show that 75% of people who leave their positions voluntarily do so because of their boss. It's a truism that people don't quit jobs, they quit bosses. I hate being a statistic!
Love y'all,

morning ladies~ I am up and dressed, taking all 3 dogs to the groomers this morning and then will go feed DFIL.. I am trying not to stress out about my dads house but things could have been done alot differently .. the homeowner buying is locked into a rate until november 30th and the vacant home insurance was through the end of the month as we thought it would be done by now but noooooo, I had to sign papers to release the lien and that took time and now for the bank to release the money will take at least 7 business days.. so I hope the buyer doesn't throw up her hands and say forget it , then it will go into forclosure and I will lose all the money that I have paid out.. which believe me is sorely needed... Oh well I will put it in Gods hands2

#28 Small Thing Yesterday was a long day. Homeschooling grandson while Dad was home - always a bit stressful, and no "heads up" warning from Mom...then went directly to work for a 3-10 shift which turned into a 3-11:30 shift. Tried not to scare the cleaning crew as I left. They get into their routine & forget that someone like me is still there. I hate to startle them. So last night as I was leaving, I made a little noise to let them know I was there, and as I headed for the exit, Henry (who owns the cleaning service & sometimes has to work in the trenches), called my name with a delighted voice & a big smile on his face...and he gave me a warm hug...and I left for home still tired but with a full heart. Not such a small thing, really.

Good morning all! Happy Thursday! Gratitude #29 What family member/friend am I grateful for today?- I am grateful for my husband. He is the yin to my yang and as frustrating as that is sometimes, he keeps my life in balance.
Welcome new girls! Love and hugs to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)4 -
29 Family member/friend ... my husband is always at the top of my list ... but today I'm especially grateful for my Mom. She's 87 years old in debilitating pain with osteoporosis. Has very limited mobility. Both she and my Dad (soon to be 90) live about 4 hours from me (which annoys me to no end). Because phone conversations with deaf and hard of hearing people is near impossible, I gave my mom an iPad so she could FaceTime and "text." She claimed she wouldn't know what to do with it, but just the opposite is true. Although she hasn't figured out the FaceTime feature yet, she sends me frequent and hilarious texts with multiple emojis! I'm so very thankful to still have my mother in my life and love the fact that she's embracing what she considers ridiculous technology!

I'm the housekeeper for my church (large campus). To tease me, the Pastor has been known to go around and reach high, swiping his finger across door frames looking for dust. I sent him this yesterday.

Yes Lanette it is the same author.
I thought his comment about fruit juice interesting too. He considers it a high sugar processed food. He believes eating the whole fruit is the better way to go! I believe both my sons are addicted to sugar. They were raised in the 80's and 90's when our food pyramid was high in refined carbs and the low fat diet craze.

Wow I'm totally impressed that your nom has taken so enthusiastically to her tablet. I now have only three older sisters living and NOT ONE of them will touch anything electronic and I miss them and the closeness we used to share.
I think I will post your dust meme all around my home. !!!

Barbara, the Southern Oregon Coastie AHMOD.the seven unexpected guests were Jack's three kids, two spouses and two of the grandkids, all family. No stressing here . I LOVE big noisy family holidays. Being the youngest of six girls, big loud family is the definition of holidays for me

Good day.
Met my Portsmouth friend at the station. We rejected the first restaurant because of the loud music and strange seating and went to the one I had been to on my birthday last year. No music.
I had 6 oysters and a vegan dahl thing. Both delicious. My friend had squid and plaice.
We wandered about, trying on clothes and I eventually bought a long, furry, grey cardigan. Very warm and not wool.
I came back on the bus and dropped into the Asian shop and bought a big bag of frozen Tilapia. Cheap!!!! He gave me a discount because he said he was trying to encourage English people.
Now home and going to just heat up a chilli for dinner. With broccoli. Knackered!!!
DH seems to be thinking that we should cancel the spring cruise. He will be missing a lot of cricket!!!!!! Plus another cricket date is moving to the Isle of Wight!!!!!!! He is not happy. You have to get a boat to the island and it's not cheap. Grrrrrrr!
We will ponder a bit longer.

Another day of no energy... blah. At least I got the dishes done this morning. I might dredge up the energy to get the laundry started... maybe. I'm running out of things to wear. ^_^ One good thing about being disabled is that I can run around in my nightclothes if I want to and no one can tell me otherwise. Ha!

#29 - Friend/Family member. My husband is always at the top of my list but Friend that I am most grateful for is my Best Friend Cheryle. We have been friends since the first day of school in Grade 2. We just recently celebrated 43 years of friendship. We have only lived in the same province for about 8 months since we were 18, but have still managed to stay in touch. She never judges, has the ability to just listen and is always there. I love her to pieces.
Struggling with this last couple weeks of my job. We have had no business for months and months and they want to keep accepting clients and are shocked when we have no staff to work. I have not even been able to get anyone to apply for jobs. We are paying less than most of the other companies and can't offer full time employment.

afternoon ladies~
busy busy...well went and picked up the dogs, they all look handsome... then brought Alfie back and went back down to my DFIL as he was getting his custom wheelchair of course they ran an hour late, but finally arrived.. they need a hoyer lift to take him in and out, so they put him in the new chair, wow its like a cadillac.. fits like a glove, but the foot rests weren't correct they need to get foot rest extensions and pads to go on them.. so here is hoping that process doesn't take as long as the chair did, they ordered it in July...but at least it is on site and they will get that taken care of...
I called the attorneys office and told them to step it up this is beyond rediculous. we need to get this house closed on3 -
Just spent three hours in the dental chair. I go to a dentisti who can do a crown in one visit. Advantage is it is done. Down side it was three hours in the chair.4

I quit drinking fruit juice in my early 20s when I realised it was just calories. I try not to drink any of my calories because eating them in food is more filling and satisfying.4 -
Margaret - Bravo for getting that dental work done! :flowerforyou: I dread having a crown and I've been putting it off. Next week I have my first check up in 16 months. Never been that long before, but the move got the schedules delayed. We have now found an NHS dentist, which means it's cheaper. They are like gold dust. I know I urgently need a clean, but will have to pay the going rate for that.
Trying to arrange to go up to London to see my cancer friend. She said she wants to see me. Hopefully next week. Sometimes she cancels at the last minute if she isn't up to it. She feels she has to be on good form. Of course, I just want to see her.
Beginning to feel a bit overwhelmed at the thought of all the people I've got to feed/entertain/host in the next few weeks.
DON’T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. I am not a restaurant. Repeat. I am not a restaurant.
Might start some lists tomorrow. That usually helps. Also want to arrange for my elder son to visit his brother's family while he is down here.
Will do my roots tomorrow.
