Sunshine! Today the sun was shining. Honestly, I think this was the first time in at least two weeks that I saw the sun. Still at my parents place. My father suggested driving to the neighboring village for a change and walking in the dunes there, so the entire family piled into the car. It was crazy windy at the coach, and we saw a spectacular number of kite surfers. We got "enough fresh air to last for the rest of the year" (quote from my sister ^^), and then I changed into my running gear that I had stored in the car to run home, while everyone else drove home via a fish sandwich place. Even if 85% of the way home the wind was in my face, I'm happy to take 8km of sunny run along the coast over fish sandwiches any day

I started out with 8-10 miles on my mind. Figured I'd do 8 and call it a day. I got to 8 and decided why not reach 2 hours? I got to 2 hours and did my strides and ended at 9.7 and figured I should just round up to 10. And with 4 on the schedule for tomorrow, I will break 60 for the month.
I just looked at stava and I was .6 miles from my weekly goal. Looks like I'll end at 625 for the year, 25 short of my goal.12 -

Beautiful. I was just saying today how nice it would be to have just one sunny day. Maybe one is on its way

@Elise4270 No I won't be running today, but I will run once more on New Year's Eve. Today, after finishing off the laundry and making a loaf of banana nut and chocolate chip bread, I'm just going to sit on my petit derrière and play video games.

What video games? We have a ps4 that i bought before my son went to the army as a way to keep him out of trouble. It did not help. But I have it and am tempted to fire it up. Any game suggestions? I’m bad at all games.... and have simulation sickness, but have heard that I can take a Dramamine for that.
I also have overripe bananas, if I drop mine by will you make me some nana bread too?

@Elise4270 It's the Steam sale, so I bought Hitman 2...I like it because there's quite a few different ways to approach the same objective. I did also just finish The Room 3 (if you like puzzle games)...I played The Room and The Room 2 on my Android phone, so this was the first time I played this game on the PC, and I enjoyed it. We also have a PS4, but it's in constant use by one of my three boys playing anything from Fortnite to Gang Beasts to God of War.
I love my bread maker; the banana nut chocolate chip loaf is super easy...just chuck everything in the pan, press a button, and walk away. Come back 1½ hours later to a home full of the aroma of freshly baked bread and a moist hot loaf with gooey chocolate bits inside.

I did also just finish The Room 3 (if you like puzzle games)...I played The Room and The Room 2 on my Android phone, so this was the first time I played this game on the PC, and I enjoyed it. We also have a PS4, but it's in constant use by one of my three boys playing anything from Fortnite to Gang Beasts to God of War.

A great day at the gym today. I went back to Anytime Fitness where they have elliptical machines which are more comfortable for me than the ones at LA Fitness.
I started with 45 minutes on the elliptical, took a very short break and then spent 30 minutes on my new favorite cardio machine, the Octane LateralX. It combines the motion of elliptical machines with the side to side motion of skating. You can adjust the lateral distance and on the highest setting it's a great glute medius workout. I love this machine for that reason. I'm getting my cardio and getting a great glute med workout, which will help prevent more ITB issues.
After that I found a machine which works the hip adductors and abductors. Again, muscles I really need to pay attention to for those long trail runs.
Now it's time for a beer and football!

Maybe skip the games and go to the gun range? I find live fire much more satisfying than video games.
Which makes me think... I wonder if there is a running biathlon like the skiing biathlon? I'd be right at home with that sport.5 -

Last time i shot i developed tendonitis in my wrist and i already have an appointment with the ear specialist in January. Dh just bought his first gun, he received a pardon. I don't even know what kind it is. I have some reservations about guns. Honestly, itd be too easy to use one... And ya just shoot targets. Theres no gore. I like the biathlon! I'd be down for that!
Dh went for a run. Sure if i said lets go shoot hed go in a sec. So, maybe another time.
Maybe i should take up hunting. Although, i seriously wonder about my mental health, eager to shoot something. I'm kinda odd, what if I'm off? Biathlon though! Awesome!

Need do more hills. Been running flat parks too much lately and it showed. Only 1000 or so feet of elevation, felt like 1500. Trouble is if I do not run at work, it gets too dark/cold by the time I get home and my Raynaud's has been much worse lately. 40 degrees today and I had my heated gloves on. Chest area dripping with sweat but needed heated gloves. Grrr. So I run at work, 13 miles, like 100 feet total elevation. Might as well be running downhill. Ah well! The sun has turned around so that will change!

Sounds like a great afternoon. What Video Games do you play? My friend just got me interested in Minecraft. I know I am a bit late to the party, but I am enjoying it so far.
Just saw your next post about Steam. I too play a lot of games on Steam, and have started The Room but got side tracked with other games.

Hmm. I replied but I see no reply. I did put it in the oven. The ip needs a pot in a pot thing. I gave up on the game. It’s hard. I get dizzy. What ever happened to asteroids? Or donkey Kong? Or rampage! I liked eating little people. I did like qbert too. I should be more productive and less wobbly.

I have a big BOX of overripe bananas waiting for me to make banana bread. I'm estimating it will be about 20 loaves to freeze. It ends up as an addition to a hot meal that gets served on the street to homeless/needy folks.I also have overripe bananas, if I drop mine by will you make me some nana bread too? 8 -

Nominal December mileage goal: 160 miles
Real Goals: Recover from the strained hamstring. Work back to running faster only as the hamstring allows. Run Freezeroo #1 as allowed by my physical condition on race day, with a blind eye toward age group standings. Have a solid base of 40 miles per week by the end of December to start Boston training.
Today's notes – Last running day of the year. Got up to see a coating of snow on my driveway. Cleared that, and by the time I got out to run the roads looked clear enough to wear road shoes instead of trail shoes. Set out in the heat of the day (34° F = +1° C), a standard 7.2 mile route with some hills. Ran mostly by feel; the first 4 miles came out as easy, the next 3 around marathon pace. After the watch ticked 7 miles, I tried to kick it up to threshold level of effort; I actually achieved something approximating half marathon pace for that distance. Still, it felt good.
Annual notes – Folks here got me to look back at records. @garygse ran almost 2 years' worth of my mileage in 2018, and @AlphaHowls ran between 2.5 and 3 years worth of my mileage in 2018. I can't run that far in a year without hurting myself. I just turned 63 last week, so I'll take a tip from @Tramboman and plead that I'm running old. To be fair to @polskagirl01 my version of running old does involve passing a bunch of younger runners; whether they look bad is up to them.
I'd already known 2018 came in as lower mileage than 2016 or 2017. This was due primarily to being more cautious in recovery from injury. The last year I got through without injury was 2015; I ran four half marathons and my first full marathon that year, as well as breaking below 20 minutes for a 5K the first time. After the breakout year I had in 2015, I probably thought too highly of my own capabilities in 2016 and 2017. In 2018, I was trying to learn to back off so as to remain uninjured. I was partially successful, and I made progress on the front of admitting I was injured early enough to minimize down time.
Looking forward, the top goal for 2019 is to remain uninjured. If I achieve that, I should run the year in miles without focusing on that as a goal. Running the year in miles is a likely byproduct of achieving the real goal, not a goal in itself.
Looking backward, I would have to say that although I became a runner in 2011, I didn't become a distance runner until 2014. That was the year I got into a training program, learned to slow down on the easy runs, and actually made it to my first half marathon. Before getting training, I injured myself every time I tried to stretch to the half marathon distance. Now I know why; in real time, I didn't understand what was going on.

I was really lazy and enjoyed sleeping in, and then took the dog for a long walk this morning. I didn't feel like going back out for a run but eventually dragged myself to the gym so I could do some of the stretches for my tendonitis using the bosu ball and then ran on the treadmill. I also tried a couple of pull-ups while I was there. Closer to being able to actually pull myself up there rather than jump and hang!
And now I want banana bread 5
