Dang a 4,200KM ultra... even as a relay that is a LONG run.0 -
So far:
1/12 - 5.5
2/12 /- Rest
3/12 - 4.1 (1 mile warmup & 5k temp)
Total - 9.6/90 Miles
I found todays run really hard mentally. I have struggled a lot in teh past mentally with running, thinking I cant do it, which then of course leads to me not being able to do it! The plan today was a tempo 5k at about 8:35 minute miles. I did a 10K at 8:26 minute miles recently so clearly I can do it but even on the way to my run I was having negative thoughts about it and so it translated into the worst run I have had in a long time....need to get these demons out of my head8 -

I already posted this to the Facebook group, but look what I get to run in today! I'm definitely running in my Goretex trail shoes! (The new ones.)
Gonna try to push distance a bit.

Hoping today is start of my holiday streak. Started with a short double - run to work via a shop and back home after work. Nothing much to report on either run.
03-Dec: 4.5k + 3.3k (Commute to/from work)
Total: 7.8km (Target: 225km)

I attempted to do a short easy run this morning but ended up walking some of it. I started wheezing halfway through. At least I got outside and moved. It felt good not to be laying around feeling like death.
December goal miles = 150 / 3 miles to date

Apparently I was too tired this morning after my flight to Germany to do math.
12.2: 4.5 @ 9:10/M (4.5) Easy Run

Was supposed to do some speed work but I’m getting a lot of discomfort on my right hip bone that extends up my side, especially when I lean or twist left. I can’t massage it our stretch it out so I ran an easy run today. Could a tight IT band give me pain above my hip bone? I feel it’s inflamed and it feels like little knots around my hip bone. Weight doesn’t bother it but it stiffens up even after a few minutes of sitting.

Could be IT band. But I'd focus on the TFL and medial glute. Maybe even massage out/stretch the psoas too.2 -

Q1: Who inspires me as a runner? -- So many of you on here... some of the ultra runners @JessicaMcB @MNLittleFinn @7lenny7 - you all show me what our bodies are capable of... @MobyCarp - the old guy that could beat me in a 5k when I had a 4k headstart, you show me what my aging body is capable of in the future if I take care of myself... but those are just a few examples of so many!
Q2: What will be my 2019 accomplishments? -- Whew... that I survived my aggressive (for me) running schedule and completed 4+ Half Marathon's and another Full Marathon.
Q3: Run the Year? -- Do not think I could hit the 2019 mileage myself (2018 currently about 1400) and would require about 39 miles/week avg. I wouldn't mind being part of a group though...

Did a couple of miles as a warm up for Zumba class. Made the mistake of eating chic-fil-a right before I headed to the gym 😂
12/1: 3.1 miles

Maybe we can post our roughly estimated yearly 2019 mileage and team up based on those estimates?
I estimate 1,500 miles in 2019 (barring serious injuries-god forbid).3 -
5 mile recovery run, but it didn't feel like a recovery. Felt stiff and awkward. Probably the cold. Not a big fan of cold (yes, I consider anything below 50F as cold)

Pretty much the same age as me, and started running at the same age as me as well. And that's where the similarities end. I can only dream of those race times. I hope she continues to smash those records.4 -
Well, I am on the board. We got 7 inches of snow this week, but I got out of work in almost daylight still. I dug out the yaktraxs. And tried out some new flashy lighty stuff (still a work in progress), because my town doesn’t believe in sidewalks. And got a mile in.
Will definitely have to get used to the yaktrax as don’t think this snow is melting anytime soon. And really? Why no sidewalks?12 -
RTY - I could not commit to 2019 miles as a noobie... that is about 40 miles a week. I felt comfortable with 20. Luckily - my partner in crime agreed to team up.
I do like that RTY will let you track solo and as a team.

I have one more question....
With the cold dry air my face is so dry. I need to use lotion. Which seems to cause a small amount of pimples. I've used Vaseline but it too seem to cause some blemishes. Any go to products, a face friendly favorite?
I missed this question. I also have super sensitive skin. Clinique is great but expensive. The Benefit brand also works for me - but is expensive.
Cheap things that work: Oil of Olay lotion - the old fashion kind without sunscreens or fancy anti-aging (aka - rash inducing) agents. The St. Ives Oatmeal based soap products also work well. Carmex for a really chapped lips or nose.2 -

Air quality has been funky lately, and it doesn't look like it's getting any better for December. Plus *kitten* has hit the fan at work - people have been quitting left and right, and we are a small department so that's a lot of slack to pull. But meh, excuses. Going for 60km this month, with hopefully more lifting.

Monthly question 2: 2019 goals
Run more consistently. Averaging out at 25km a week would be nice. Oh and I'd really like to do a 50k trail race.
That must be going around. I swear we're on the verge of mutiny. I bought headphones for work so i don't have to listen to it all day long.
Good luck in 2019 for a 50k. I think the one in Hawaii is still open for registration, if you wanna/need to get away and join us!
End of year blues I guess. Can't pull a 50k out of my hat just yet, but hmmm, you've got me thinking!

Everyone get registered and think on those awesome team names... So far i got: red, blue, green....Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff... and the golden snitch! Catch me! Hahaha!
ETA duh me. There's no real hurry to sign up. I'm sure you can join well in to the year, like march. So if December's "running/entertainment" fund is spend/earmarked, join when possible. I haven't been running, hence my running fund is nearing a Merrill Lynch contribution and I forget yall gots other stuffs and are not eagerly awaiting a running registration. Haha!

5 miles today... it's gotten cold again. Seems so anticlimactic after the huge crowds at St Jude's. Back to everyday life!
Still writing my race report. I went to bed the night of the race thinking I was 3rd in AG, woke up and found I was 2nd, since the Grandmaster was from our age group. Supposedly I get an object of some sort in the mail, which they engrave. Talked to an AG winner from last year who said he got an acrylic plaque.
My husband and I sprang for the official photos. There are some nice ones of him, no nice ones of me running (I run like an idjit) but they did get this one of me in the rain at the finish line getting my medal.

I put Burt's bees on my nose and the corners of my mouth when it's below freezing.2 -

I'm 50, I've got five years to catch up to her!
Question #2:
Next year's main goal is to become competent at 10k. My 10k right now is very slow compared to the local women in my AG who race 10k's. I know I have a faster 10k in me, I'm just used to running 10k as my longer easy run. To get faster I need to add in some longer runs. My 5 mile time has already improved a lot since I trained for my half.
I'd like to continue to improve my 5k time as well - I think the theoretical max speed for me is about a 25 minute 5k unless I have some breakthrough which allows me to change my running style completely. So I want to see how close to that I can get. And I want to do a cross country race. All of this is contingent on staying uninjured and protecting my knee.

First outdoors run since forever. It was a bit euphoric to be running outside again, for a while.. then the wind picked up and it was a struggle to run in a straight line. Interesting to say the least.So far i got: red, blue, green....Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff... and the golden snitch! Catch me! Hahaha!
