Last day of super cold. We had four days of no school. Never had that many days off. We will be in the thirties by Saturday a 70 degree swing.

Because of the cat I was up too early and feel poopy. I must be cautious and stay on guard or I’ll overeat. Just finished cup of water and cup of organic yogurt and a serving of baby carrots and more sweetened iced coffee than normal. Did get workout done. 817 calories remaining. I’ve been at 1000 calories plus exercise so about 1200 and having trouble losing. I’m 5 foot two, 123.8lbs, with small frame and it’s just too hard for me to lose weight above 900 calories. Charts say I should be 107-140. I’d like to be 115-118 but not sure that’s realistic. Thoughts?
Thanks for the e-support about the move. My husband was replaced with an alien last night as he came home from work cheerful and was talkative and friendly to the real estate agent. I asked no questions! This morning was another story.....new cat(stray)keeps waking us up at wee hours of the morning for food. Husbands had it and is threatening the animal shelter. So I ordered an automatic feeder and will set for a couple times during the night. Normally I’d throw her outside when she does that but it’s below zero so not happening. Supposedly she will get used to the feeder and learn to know when food is coming. Praying.

Yesterday I got hit with the "bug" that Jake had on Sunday. I walked the dogs for two hours in the morning, showered, rode the exercise bike for awhile and was suddenly sleepy and nauseous. I threw up my breakfast and spent the rest of the day sleeping and getting up to throw up again. I am slightly better today. Now I'm going back to bed.11

Machka - I fell behind on your hip problem, did you say you were getting an MRI - possible stress fracture? I was thrilled to learn your DH carried your heavy backpack then shopped for a walking stick for you. Has the doc given you any anti-inflammatories?
Barbie - sorry to hear about catching Jake's stomach bug! Sounds like you are getting the crud out of the way early this year, hope the rest of the year is problem free for you two. Stay warm!
Barbara AHMOD - had to smile at your comment about people being dyslexic. "This right or my other right?" I've said a thousand times!
Rori - I was amazed they let you drive home after your thumb surgery. Did they use only local anesthetic?
Lisa - wishing you luck on your upcoming surgery. Wonder what your new boss has in store? I'm sure she realizes what a peach she hired and is excited about your potential!
Kylia - I had to laugh at your Pyr not minding the cold. We had a Maremma (smaller version of Pyr) who lived with the sheep when we had the farm and she didn't mind being bedded down with them in the barn or laying beside them out in the field, all frosty. GREAT news on Aubrey!!
Michele - I've been following along on your posts, often read them at night on my tablet that I don't use for commenting. The nautical baby shower theme sounds so cute. Love hearing about your shopping trips and so jealous we don't have an Aldi's out here yet that I know of, even tho I've started seeing ads on the TV. They might be moving into the Seattle area.
Sue in WA - sorry to hear about your DH being out of sorts. (HUGS)
Carol[/b] - sorry to hear about your Pom's accident, at least it wasn't in the hallway where someone could step in it - voice of experience here . So sorry your knee is acting up.
Allie - I think you'd look great in a bob! Good luck on your bloodwork! Have things calmed down for your office manager and Mary?
Sharon - great job on your weight loss! I love hearing your stories about your Allan, grandkids, experiences driving truck. And I agree about your Teamster job giving you many benefits probably wouldn't have had otherwise.
Rita- love seeing your meals and congrats on your check-up.
Rebecca- celebrating your loss as well! How are things progressing with your upcoming grandchild? Hope all is well in that department.
Heather - happy to hear you are getting better and your DH is over it and able to help care for you.
Barbie - I glanced at the 10 day forecast, one of them showed you pretty cold and snowy early next week. Looks like we'll be down to 18 on Monday night, high on Tuesday in low to mid 30's. Snow Sunday evening. I'm going to call my cleaner and ask her if she wants to move us to another day or cut her visit short as DH will be in the house feeding the woodstove. I'm excited to see some snow even if it is slushy (until it freezes into ice .)
Beth and Karen in NY - glad everyone made it home safely in the blizzard! I remember the white-out drives all too well.
Margaret I don't remember missing much school back then in the 1950's/60's. Maybe it's because everyone drove heavy vehicles=cars made of metal? But with rear-wheel drives? We never used chains back then. Anyhow, hope you have a chance to warm up before the next one hits and hope everyone's pipes made it thru without bursting. I'll have to put a heater on in the back bathroom on the nights it goes below 20.
I'm down a couple pounds this month from doing IF- 14 to 16 hours several times a week combined with 2 or 3 500 to 700 calorie days along the lines of Mosely's 5:2 Fastdiet. It's very doable for me right now. Having a hard time getting back in action on the SWSY but manage to do my workout once a week. That rope and pulley for my bum shoulder stares at me so I finish it off with a session of pain, lol.
Heading to the doc this morning to get allergy shots plus have her take a look at a spot on my nose which is quite small but grows and continually red and kind of flakes off. I'm sure it's nothing but both my dad and my grandmother had skin cancers on their noses so if all it needs right now is a touch of dry ice, I reckon now's the time. She might just tell me to keep an eye on it and do nothing which is OK too. I have the first appointment in the morning before the really sick people arrive.
When I was in there last week, my nurse said she never gets flu shots, doesn't believe in them for HER. Since it's a private clinic, the docs don't pressure the employees. I thought that was interesting.
Also heard that one of the older private clinics in town (not affiliated with the Providence Health Care system which is huge out here and has several hospitals) hasn't paid their docs in three months, two well-loved docs there are planning to leave. Not sure if the insurance and coding regulations are now so burdensome they can't keep up, or if they have an embezzling accountant.
OK ladies, stay warm and healthy!

Yes. We have a feeder for our cat, and she does anticipate when it will come on.
Once we get near our goal weight, it can be really tough to lose. It could take a long while still. Sorry

Had a horrible coughing session after lunch and then dozed off. I woke up in a panic, dreaming I couldn't breathe. I was really rattling! I'm feeling a bit better now I've had a good cough. In my dream people were saying I sounded awful. I've got a headache, but I'm still better than yesterday.
Barbie - sorry about the bug!
Much love, Heather UK xxxxxxx5 -
Dear Lanette, thank you, I am happy for my loss as well.👍. My middle son and DID are doing well! She's expecting in May, so this next weekend they are flying down to Vacaville, California where her parents still reside. They are going to have a baby shower there. I received an invite, but with traveling and $, my son understands we can't attend. I get worried sometimes, with those two living in the heart of the measles outbreak down there! But they're both vaccinated so my son says its fine. Hopefully by May the authorities can get a handle on the Vancouver area!
Oh saw in the Seattle Times, that Oak Harbor ranks #2 as safest city in Washington! Yay! You need to look up your city for *kitten* and giggles!
Have a great day!

(((Grace))) You are a good daughter. I suspect things will work out well in the long run, but right now it is a big ball of stress. I hope you’re able to get a healthy amount of rest as you go through the steps. Fatigue and stress combined are a recipe for trouble. :flowerforyou:
Rita: Good news on your predicted longevity. You must be doing something right!
Machka: Sending good wishes for your MRI results. Whatever they show will help you to make better personal health decisions.
Kim: I like your advice about keeping passwords off of our computers. You are a wise woman.
Sue in WA: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :flowerforyou:
Machka: I know you are used to a higher level of activity, so this change of pace might make you feel cheated. Taking care of yourself now and getting a good amount of rest may turn out to be a good strategy and help you return to your active lifestyle sooner.
Barbie: I’m so sorry that you caught Jake’s bug. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Heather: Do you have a vaporizer? It is something we’ve always had around and really helps when we’re congested. Boiling water as you would for tea would also be helpful. :flowerforyou:
Sending warm thoughts for everyone in extreme freezing temperatures. We’ve been lucky so far. Our lowest predicted temperature is 24F on Monday. That makes us very lucky. Our adult children both live in cold temperatures right now. My daughter in IL stayed home from work. It was a wise choice.

Feeling Invisible - I have a terrible habit of skimming the posts because I’m interested in what’s happening but doing it at times I don’t necessarily have the time to respond. Then when I go back with time the conversation has moved so far past that topic that I feel foolish for acknowledging. This is such a busy thread with so many topics and intelligent well written posts I just love reading it all so much I feel sometimes I have nothing to add.
Michele - I am guilty of liking the diary completion that MFP pops onto our home page. I rarely look at the diary itself, I just like to acknowledge that someone was successful in keeping at or below goal. Your trip sounds like it will be fun, enjoy!
Sue - your drive with your husband reminded me of driving my Dad one day when he was sick with cancer. I was visiting and was only home for 1 week, I had taken him to his chemo driving his manual transmission half ton. I hadn’t driven a manual in 20 years, needless to say there were some rough starts. He commented a couple times, but I reminded him I hadn’t driven one for a while and he agreed. He then decided after chemo we should go pick Mom up and go to the neighbouring town to get some groceries and such. I agreed but said I would use my Sister in Law’s van instead of his truck. We go to town and I parked in the handicap stall with his placard, go into do our errands and everything is fine. I start to back out of the parking spot and he yells at me, “cut the wheel, do this, slow down”! I got my dander up a bit, pulled back into the parking spot, put it in park, turned around to look my Dad straight in the eyes and said, “Dad you taught me to drive when I was 16 years old, I am now 44 and have been doing well. I don’t do well when I’m being screamed at, so you can drive or you can let me but it can’t be both”. He agreed to be quiet. The next day he went off the road because he blacked out from a coughing fit, and never drive again. When I went home a couple months later he was laughing telling people how I didn’t like his being a passenger. Thank you for the memory, I’m sorry you had an irritable husband yesterday. Happy Birthday!!!
Barbara - that was me with the two left feet. I may try to find a line dance class. Once I find a job, to pay for it. 😂
Heather - glad to read you and hubby are both feeling better. I noticed when my Grandson first started school and brought every bug for a visit with him, hubby and I would both catch it. He must have been bringing enough bugs for our immunity to build up a bit because we have (knock on wood) been able to resist them lately.
Kylia - great news on Aubrey. I bet those were some very happy grandparents.
Lanette - my Grandmother lived to the ripe old age of 95, she never believed in flu shots either and refused to get them. She said she had a couple years and found she was just more sick those years so stopped. I don’t remember her ever getting sick either. I must have a bit of her immunity, I never even got any of the childhood diseases except measles when I was too young to remember. I never got chicken pox even when my brother and own children got them.
I finished one of my daughters presents yesterday and am heading to the craftroom to do the others today, then I have to make cards for 5 people. February is my month of birthdays. I think I will also make a valentines card to send to my Mom in the nursing home.
My best friend texted me this morning to confirm with me when I would prefer her to come for my daughters wedding. I told her selfishly I wanted some alone time with her so she should have the bulk of her days her after the wedding. She wrote back and said she had been thinking the same thing. I can’t believe it’s already time for people to think about booking flights! The next 5 months will fly.
Today marks 1 year that I have been logging consistently on MFP, I am not where I was hoping to be starting Feb 2019, but I’m closer to it than I was so I’ll take it!
Have a great day everyone.

Thanks for all the KUDOS! But I’m not done yet! Feb. docs; mamo next week, blood work for thyroid Med check, stress test, then review of all of this with my PC. Phew!!!
Hope I’m done after that!
Meanwhile I’m sitting at cardio with DH for him to be checked. We will see what that brings!
Yesterday brought Wicket (youngest shi-tzu) to doc and Chewy (12 year old) to get. Chewy for thyroid recheck: Wicket for yearly and books work b/c she is not acting normal. Found out Wicket had two infected teeth with one loose. So she had to stay all day. They ended up pulling two teeth and find out results of both dogs blood work today.
Doctors 3 days this week!!!

Bulletproof Coffee:
Ingredients
1 cup hot coffee freshley brewed
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tbsp MCT oil or coconut oil0 -
Sue, happy birthday and I'm thinking of you as you and your husband deal with his illness. It's rough.
Karen, in NY... a happy birthday to you also.
Allie and Rebecca,,,,wow on your weight loss. I'm amazed at you both and so many others who are successful with their weight programs.
Hope people dealing with illness and injury see better times....and feeling for people in the extreme weather happening is so many places.
Wishing everyone a good end to January. Hard to believe today is the last day of January. I did keep up with my exercise and food journal....both big successes for me. No weight loss but will work on that in February and I didn't gain so I'm happy.

Sharon near Seattle ... I have the greatest respect for truck drivers in the winter! Can't imagine it. During what turned out to be an official blizzard in Buffalo, they directed trucks off of the thruways onto secondary roads and sure enough ... those trucks were jack-knifed all over the place. Not sure it was such a good idea.
Come to find out that I was driving during the absolute worst part of the storm when they actually called in the plow trucks (which are huge in Buffalo) because they couldn't even see their own plows. Today is windy but the sun is shining. As we still had travel bans this morning, both my husband and I stayed home from work and decided to work at clearing snow.
Barbie, Heather and everyone else dealing with the crud ... get well soon!
Kylia ... great news that Aubrey continues to improve. It's an exciting day when the grandparents can finally hold their grandchild!
It has been a good month for me with my health goals. Will update tomorrow!

People our size can't compare to others. (Well, really. None of us should compare our progress to anyone else, irrespective of size.) We just need to do what is right for us and be happy losing what we can knowing that we have done what is safe for us. You are doing such a great job.

Grace - hope your kitty settles down! Glad your DH is coming around with the move. Great ideas about finding him something to remodel at your next place.
Regarding your weight, I can't recall if you mentioned your age or if you are thru menopause. Several of us in our mid to upper 60's and above are having problems with osteopenia & osteoporosis and have decided it's OK to be at the upper range of the suggested BMI or perhaps a few more pounds over.
Body fat produces estrogen which protects our bones. Plus gives us a reserve if we become ill and cannot eat for a few days or need to be hospitalized. Of course, there are medications which can protect bones that some of us still must take.
I'm satisfied at 160 now vs. 145, which was my goal of 30 years ago. I'm one of the lucky tall ones, was 5' 9", now shrunken to 5' 8 1/2". Seven years ago, I weighed 180 and there was a period in my life I was nearly 200, so letting go of the 145 lb goal has been quite freeing.
Bottom line, your current BMI is around 22.7, and there's nothing wrong with that. But you are the best judge if you are comfortable there or if you have some extra few pounds are in the "wrong places".
The gals here in this group got me started on weight lifting which has really helped me tone up and increase my metabolism.
Hope this helps.

Hmmm...Rita- is there a purpose for Bulletproof coffee? Looking at those ingredients, I would say it is to "clean you out". Just curious.
Barbie- Ugh! Hope you feel better soon! Glad Jake is beginning to feel better so he can help you a bit.
Kylia- Wonderful news on baby Aubrey!
Immune systems- Because I have been chasing snot monsters for the past 24 years my immune system is really strong. I hardly ever get sick and if I do, it doesn't linger. I do not get the flu shot. My house does get a thorough wipe down with disinfectant every day. Tim has a poor, and now compromised (due to meds) immune system and so he tends to get everything. We have just started him taking Sambucol to give him a boost. He takes it for three days and then stops for a while, until he feels run down again. It seems to work really well. He gets the flu shot and pneumonia shot. Many articles have been written about children's immune systems. To all of those with grandbabies: The sooner they are exposed to different environments and people, it makes their immune system stronger. Science has shown that children will be their sickest (more frequently sick) as soon as they get into daycare/classroom type settings. So if your kid is home the first four years of his life with a SAHM, those kids will be sick a lot the first couple years of school. IF you send your baby to daycare from infancy, those first couple years of his/her life will they will be sick a lot. As they get older, their bodies learn how to handle each illness better and their immune systems grow stronger. IF you have a child with asthma, allergies or auto immune diseases, they would be the exception to this rule. While they may make their immune system a little stronger; it most likely will never be a strong system and they will always need to take flu shots and other vaccines, vitamins/meds to boost it up a bit.
Last night I ended up not having any of my evening kids either! EVERYTHING closed down and my parents all stayed home with their kiddos. I did have one mom ask if I could take her kiddo tonight (not a scheduled night) and I told her I made other plans. I didn't. I just want the night to myself. Even after having yesterday (that one glorious day/night) off. I really enjoyed my time yesterday. I think because I didn't plan to have it off, I didn't make a to do list or fill my time with things that I felt I should be doing. I just cleaned, etc until lunchtime and then farted around and watched a couple of movies. I did go out and play in the snow and challenged (via video) my snow hating friend to go out and play and embrace her inner snow bunny. My hubby filmed it and thinks I am nuts. lol (I personally think that is what attracted him to me).

Tracey in Edmonton: HAPPY MFP ANNIVRSARY!
Pip: I am happy to hear that you and Kirby plan to do the viaduct run in Seattle. I hope for reasonable weather and for you two to enjoy yourselves.
Allie and Felicia: I agree absolutely with this post from Felicia, “People our size can't compare to others. (Well, really. None of us should compare our progress to anyone else, irrespective of size.) We just need to do what is right for us and be happy losing what we can knowing that we have done what is safe for us. You are both doing so well. I’m happy for your successes along with you both.
I’m home from yoga and a trip to the vet with the dog. The dog has a cyst on his backside and they’re sending goo from it off to a lab for a biopsy. I have already called the groomer and let her know our appreciation for her sharp observations. The vet didn’t seem concerned about the cyst, but she wanted a lab to confirm that there was no cancer or other problems.
Have a great day!

Lisa, spraying Lysol on hubs hit my funny bone. In the summer when it is actually hot here (think Upper 80s to low 90s, although it has gotten hotter.) Allan and I used to each have a water bottle for misting by our chairs. One time he set his on squirt. I immediately squirted him back. Unspoken rules were “No water on reading material and none in face.” And it was off and running for the rest of the hot spell. Allan was about 80 at the time, but I saw the gleefully mischievous 8-YO his mom had talked about. Never mind that I was 66 and just as bad!
Machka! I hope you stay off that hip as much as possible until they decide just what the problem is! You’re so strong-minded, and I’ll bet that’s what got you through the last of that marathon. You can put that to work now to be just as willful in doing what’s right to heal.
Barbara AHMOD, you have no idea how much I enjoy your candid and life revealing posts.
I’ve hit a plateau for the last several days, but am still down over 17# from my day of surgery weight. Hard to believe that was only 4 weeks ago.
I can’t imagine that my mushroom-like hips will ever go down, but I’m willing to wait and see. More pictures coming when I can find someone to “shoot” me and am wearing clothes.
I believe I’ve finally turned a corner with my older cat! She just adores making biscuits on my leg, my tummy, my arm, my boob! BUT she’s a real super battle fury when it comes to nail cutting. I have the correct cutter, but you need to control the cat, get the nail positioned right, hold it there and cut. Usually somewhere in the middle of these proceedings she’d shoot out of my grip like a bazooka. There is, however, a magic word! “Nummies, Goldie! Nummies!” After every nail for now. She’ll let me get one paw with treats after every toe, then it’s no deal until she gets hungry again. Best luck I’ve had with her ever. Maybe I will cease looking as if I’ve been assaulted by a cheese grater someday.
