A sync that works correctly with Apple Watch... I’m a former Premium member that is now using another paid app for my logging, for this reason. I still like MFP for the forums but the lack of functionality was killer,

It should all be free - all the time.

I'd pay for a database in which the only whole foods entries were those MFP pulled from the USDA database, didn't have liquid measurements like ml for solid foods, and all the decimal errors were fixed (1 g entries show values for 100 g).

It would need to be a complete database as well. For example, the MFP-created entry "Egg, whole, raw, fresh" has been missing for a few years. I still have it in my Recent, but need to use a user-created entry in the Recipe Builder.

    that.

cause that garlic entry gets me every single time! :/

If something's free, we are usually the actual product. Interestingly, upgrading free services generally doesn't seem to roll back any of the value we 'get to' provide in return.

Pretty much always, with the exception being government and non-profit provided services, and, to some degree, free apps offered to assist you in spending money for a service (say, apps that let you locate a brick-and-mortar store in a given chain and place an in-app order) or to use an online service that you pay for (e.g., Spotify or Netflix on your phone). Any of those probably still use the data gathered for maximizing their revenues, just as a brick-and-mortar store uses general sales info and info linked to reward cards to maximize revenues.

I love MFP, but use another app to log. I would switch back if the diary entries were accurate and I could track ALL nutrients (important if you’re vegan).

I wish I could use another app for logging, but I only do it in short bursts and keep coming back here. I like that this one has both a desktop and a smartphone app, that I can easily copy meals from yesterday or use saved meals, and that there are times when the messed up database comes in handy when I'm trying to log some weird foreign brands or local foods. I basically go back and forth using an app, getting tired of some aspect of it, switching to another, and so on.

It's 100% free to accept that typos and misunderstandings about spelling will happen online, especially when you're gathering people from a variety of countries and backgrounds.

I work with and forum with a lot of ESL people and IME it is native English speakers who make these types of mistakes.

I notice a lot of UK people say loose weight, which I find quite odd.

It is very common here. Not sure why.

I pay for the premium because I felt the site is valuable enough to me to support it, but for that price I sure would like them to fix my account so it would start posting my weight losses again. Just stopped a year and a half ago and can't get anyone to respond to me on fixing it.
And the clean up of the food database would be amazing.

I find this odd... premium users are supposed to get "Priority Customer Support". I only had to contact them once a couple years ago and got a reply within a few hours so was pleased with it. Did you contact them using the web form (see here)?

Concerning your issue. I think you are referring to the updates that get posted into the news feed. If so, on their website go to My Home > Settings > Automatic News Feed Update Settings (under Privacy Settings) and make sure "I have lost weight" is checked.

To the OP, I concur with many of the previous posters, wish there was a way for them to clean up the database!

This^^ all day long. Some way to differentiate. Even if it is a different color text that would work: or a second list completely. That doesn't seem to be that hard of a fix. No idea why it has to be difficult. When Mike owned the site, there was an asterisk that was in front of all the user-entered ones and the admin-entered ones didn't have the asterisk. (Or was it the other way 'round?)

I almost posted that about the asterisk recently but couldn't recall which was which either.

Far better system than the checks.

I was more or less just kidding around and would never correct a post, but based on my 20 years of reading finance (and more recently weight loss) boards, the lose/loose error has to be the most common of all.

I was shocked when I first realized how common it is, which occurred on a sports forum in Usenet back in the '90s. I don't think it's a typo, I think people really believe that's the correct spelling. Some guy who used to post here corrected me for using "lose."

I would never correct someone either, since it's against the rules (personally if I were repeatedly misspelling a common word in a non typo kind of way I would rather be corrected since if I saw such a mistake off-line it would turn me off hiring someone and generally lead to a bad impression). But oh well. I'm reasonably high tolerance with typos and I write fast and make plenty of them on MFP (including embarrassing ones like mistyping their for there even though of course I know the difference), but that particular one just bothers me a lot, probably because I have a negative association with idiot fans of opposing teams writing "oh yeah, Michigan is going to loose!" (Note, not idiots because they write "loose," but because of their particular team choice, and of course I am kidding.)

Agree with this, I would want to be corrected (nicely). When I have reviewed resumes in the past I usually "trashed" those with spelling errors immediately. There are usually a ton of resumes, so it was an easy way to thin the pile (and remove those who don't seem to be detail-oriented). However, I understand why its a rule, so I yell "it's 'lose'!" in my head o:)

    edit: fixed quote

I think it's partially an accent issue, bit like could of/could've. When I speak, I'm sure there's a difference between lose and loose (and also been and being, which is another one that makes me humph!) but that's not universal.

Hahah I swear I see people getting this wrong all over social media and other platforms... to the point that it's a pleasant surprise when I do actually see it spelled correctly. I guess it's the same as the misused apostrophe problem... just have to accept that people don't get it.

Do you think that people don't get it (know the difference) or that they just don't care enough to proofread/correct mistakes? Could also be a swipe/autocorrect thing, too.

The worst part is when I start second guessing myself about such commonly mistaken grammar things...like judgement/judgment. I don't have to judge any more. They're both right! Same with the Oxford comma - it's a free-for-all now!!

Canada geese, though. That one kills me. It isn't Canadian geese.

..and now we've successfully highjacked this thread into a grammar-nazi thread. *lesigh*

Yes, IMO Cron is much better for the logging experience especially for people who are doing most of their own cooking (MFP's crowd-sourced database is probably more convenient for people who are doing a lot of pre-prepared foods or eating out frequently).

I would like to be able to edit an existing food entry via the app. You can do this on the web if the existing entry is incorrect, but not on the app. So when I search for something and can’t find a correct entry, I then have to create yet another entry for the same exact food because the 147 existing entries are net carbs or missing half the nutrients or the manufacturer changed the info 3 years ago or typos or whatever.

I don’t know if I would pay the premium price that though.

I report the food and then click the box "save the new info to my foods" and I'm able to enter the new info without having to make an entry.

Does a food get yanked for review after being reported a certain number of times? I've never bothered, but if it actually works...

Yep via app... I hardly use the website
