Anyone else out there doing intermittent fasting? I’ve been having great success over the past few weeks and would love to share tips and insights. Feel free to add me.

I have been doing IF for a couple of weeks so far, still learning and am beginner's with keto as well. I was surprised of how somewhat satiated I am and not starving during the fasting periods. I think I'm undereating though, as it can be a challenge to not go over the 5-10% carb limit.7

i am in love with it. I have been going for 20:4, and so my cheat days, which are often, are 16:8. I went on a trip to Miami on the second week of doing this and I just had coffee/teas for breakfast, i bought a pastry that I shared with a friend one morning, but otherwise my lunches were all half sized portions, and then i did the same at dinner, and boom....losing awesome weight. I overcomplicate calorie counting after doing it for so many years. Giving myself a window to eat in....way easier.14

In jan I lost 4.5 lbs - which was decent. But want a better loss per month as I want 30lbs off (did want it for the end of March but that won’t happen) x2

With just 30lbs to lose you should certainly not losing faster as you'd lose a lot of muscles along with fat. Muscles are good! They keep you strong, prevent you from looking skinny fat, work against osteoporosis and lots of other things. Oh, and your heart is a muscle too. Plus if you lose too fast you will probably lose hair, look pale and unhealthy. Is it really worth this?14 -

I fast from 7pm-noon and have done this for 6 months now. It seems to really help in shedding weight. It takes some getting used to but once you are in the routine...easy peasy.15

Strength training will not offset muscle used as an energy source once your body has metabolized all the fat it can for a day.
Unless you are in an imminent risk of death there are zero good reasons to hurry through the weight loss process.13 -
As everyone says, it’s all about calories in and out. But it does help me to stay more disciplined about eating and is another barrier to preventing me from over eating.24

Do you all take days off from Intermittent fasting or do you stay on it everyday? I've been doing for acouple day? But just wondering if it's more affective for weight loss to change it up?2

IF itself doesn't do anything for weight loss, it's just timing. The only thing that leads to weight loss is a calorie deficit. Some people find IF makes it easier to stay in a deficit, but that's a personal preference.
If 1600 calories is a deficit for you, it makes no difference to weight loss if you eat those calories across 1 hour, 6 hours or 16 hours.21 -
I would love some info on 16:8 IF. I just started lifting heavy, about 20-30 lbs of fat to lose and I've been at a plateau for 6 months.1

This is my concern, I've been doing IF for about the last month, about a 14:10 ratio. I work in a hospital 12 hr shifts, so if I work out before work, I'm working out at 5 am, stopped eating at 7 pm the night before, but then don't eat breakfast until about 9 am or so. What is my body using to fuel that workout? Am I losing ground instead of gaining ground?0 -
Your workout performance and strength progression, as measured by loads lifted, will be an indicator. I've done fine training fasted but it did a little getting used to. Get your calories in, one way or the other, each day.1

IF and Keto have zero benefit physically. They're mental placebos.
Anybody who tells you IF is the way to lose those last stubborn pounds etc is not looking out for you.18 -

What's important is your overall calories for the day and for the week. You don't have to eat food right before your body needs to use it - it is constantly digesting food, transporting fuel around to your cells, burning fat, etc. The danger would be under-fueling over a longer period of time. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how long, but we're not talking about less than 24 hrs. Just monitor your energy level and performance. Some people do fine working out on an empty stomach, others find their workouts suffer without eating a little something.10 -
I have lost weight doing IF. I do not count calories but try and eat in moderation. For me the eating window is what keeps me in control. I finish dinner by 5:15 to 5:30 and do often do not until 11:30 the next day. Sometimes I will eat earlier say at 9:30 am. just depending on what my schedule is like.
SInce August I have kind of been hit and miss with it so the weight loss has slowed down. I have about 8 lbs left to go. I seem to do good during the week doing IF and then blow it on weekends...I think because the weather is pretty bad right now so my weekends are not filled with hiking, etc. as they were when the weather was better and it is so cold here that it just makes me want to hibernate and eat!!
I figure though worst case if I do it four or five days per week and then loosen on the weekends even if I don't lose weight I will maintain and that is a good thing. Before IF I would come out of winter with at least an extra 10lbs on me:(

Just started IF yesterday. One thing I have to have coffee with sugar free powder. I want to try to start drinking it just black but it so hard. Any suggestion to help me get to that point?

I put monk fruit in mine, it has less of an aftertaste than Stevia (if that's ok for your fast).3 -

Yes I have been doing IF . This is the app I use , it's awesome. It records your weight, measurement and the times u fast. It compares the fasting times with the weight loss. It's interesting to find weight loss is greater with the longer fast.
I am very interested hearing how others have gone fasting. I have found it very beneficial. I have posted in another recent IF forum. Hair and skin is alot healthier. Mental awareness has improved. I don't get as much digestive problems. I have had alot of food intolerance.
I wish u all the best trying it out. Ones that haven't, I highly recommend to give it a whirl I don't think anyone has died from it..lol8 -

My recommendation would be to find a local coffee bean roaster and sample the different beans that they have to find one that you like. Always buy whole beans, get a bean grinder and grind no more than a couple of days worth of beans at a time - the fresher the grind, the better tasting the coffee.5 -

It's a personal thing as the post above mine says. I currently drink an Italian Roast and I grind my own beans when making a cup at home. I only drink one cup a day and it's strong. When buying on the go, I drink Cafe Americano.

Yes I have been doing it for months now and I am doing a pretty extreme fasting period because I am ramping up for my wedding in May. I eat my first meal at 3 PM and stop eating between 6 PM and 7 PM. Sometimes I eat around 2 PM if the craving gets too intense. It's really helped me tremendously, my cravings have diminished, my appetite is way more in control and my night time eating isnt an issue anymore which is huge for me. I'm down a total of 42 pounds since December.14
