WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR FEBRUARY 2019

Had a sad email from my beloved cancer friend today. It was a round robin to all her friends. Said that the oncology dept have told her that she is now too frail to resume chemo, as she was hoping, and only has "a few short months". Of course I have known this for ages and I am amazed at how long she has kept going , but she is taking a while to truly get her head around it. She is still hoping for 'a long many months'.
The hospice she has been attending for therapy, and hopes to go to for her last weeks, has stepped up to the mark and is talking to her grown up sons and also helping them with how to explain it to her 6 year old grandson.
She may have some radiotherapy on the brain tumour which is affecting her sight and they may be able to drain her lung.
I have replied to her email, telling her I am here any time she wants to call, even in the dead of night, and can come up any time. I have written out a cheerful card showing Brighton beach huts because she wants her son to drive her down here. I hope she will make it, but I doubt it. The hospice have offered to have her in for a few days R&R. They can only take you for the last two weeks otherwise.
Otherwise my cough is v annoying, but otherwise I am improving. It seems to go in phases. Tonight I am coughing a lot.
Lots of love, Heather UK xxxxxxx10 -

First time posting from my phone.
Barbiecat, that field makes me want to hammer a horse through it.
Suew, we'r seen to both be house people. I don't have goats though.
Two days without as boot and although I'm getting in almost 5000 steps I can't say I'm actually walking. Just throwing the surgical foot out there and stepping with my good foot. The heel of my four hits bad and the is no way I can roll forward on the ball of my foot. That hurts even more. I start PT tomorrow. I hope it helps. I'm putting apicture off my daughter's new puppy. I don't think the best was very responsible. She had 5 off the seven puppies gone by just over 4 weeks. That's ridiculous. This was the last of the itter and she was less than 6 weeks old.2 -

Graceandmiracles wrote: »Back at it today. I’m thinking I may have to drop my calories by 100 a day to lose. It seems I have tried many times to lose at 1200 calories but because I go over a day or two a week I struggle to drop weight. I’m wondering if I drop to 900 plus 200 for exercise and factor in the cheat days I might be more consistent long term? Anyhow I’m giggling at the snow you all are getting in the south. I’m in VT 😁.
1200 is the recommended minimum.
Just curious ... why do you need what you call "cheat days". And what are they?
I was curious about the same thing. The cheat days seem like the best place to start.
And I agree about the 1200 calorie minimum, even though it means a slower weight loss. That's not many calories.

Heather, I am so sorry to hear about your friend's time frame. It never seems to matter how prepared we are for the end, or how much warning we've had, it always seems to be a bit of a shock. HUGS0

Aww Heather so hard to see someone you care for deeply go through this transition...
I am at work and one of the computers went down so ..bless Dr P s heart he has had me working in the back.and Mary accuses me of not working because I am not up there with her to pick up her slack...
Found out that our office manager who we all deeply cared for was a shiester..lying about things and dragging us into it...
Just heartbreaking..but the Dr has been very good to us..and is very understanding on how we feel and how hurt we are..3 -
Heather, I am so sorry about your friend and about your sadness. You have been a good friend to her.0

Machka: Thanks for the good wishes for our dog. On the plus side, his backside is no longer swollen and he is eating and drinking as he should. He’s also cheerful. I think those are good signs. His appointment with the vet is not until February 14th.
Lisa: I’m glad that you are doing so well and delighted that you are home. I hope it just keeps on getting better and better. :flowerforyou:
(((Heather))): So sorry to hear about the news for your cancer friend. You have been a very good friend to her. She has managed to hold on for a long time. I wish her well, and also her family and good friends like you. I hope your cough is soon a thing of the past.
Cheryl: Lovely photo of you on your horse.
Grace and Miracles: I hope you will stay connected with this group of supportive women. Each and every one is a blessing. Regarding cheat days for any of us: Who are we cheating? If we cheat, we’re cheating ourselves. It works best to record every bite and swallow so that if we go over we understand why we aren’t losing weight, and we don’t end up starving ourselves and losing our health. (((HUGS)))
I am having a low energy day. I have a meeting this evening that I will attend, but I’d rather not. I think I’ll take a nap and hope it gives me an energy boost.

Hey girls! Just a quick hello. I was logging into MFP early this morning (about 6:30am) and our power went out! It has been out all day due to the ice storm that went through. It finally kicked back on at 4:30 this afternoon. So glad as it was getting chilly in the house. I have Jonah here, tonight so I did a quick skim over posts and will make this a short one. Hugs to Heather, Allie, Kylia (in regards to your aunt), and every one else who needs or wants one. Love the pups, and so sad about the kitties. Congrats on car (Rori) and Kylia's baby Audrey finally going home! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)3

Barbie at! That baby looks like she isn't too happy about being there, lol! She's so cute!
Oh, Rori! I hope they total it. I hate when it's close to that line. I got one back once that was terrible. Good luck with it! Hope your new one is terrific.
Lisa in AR, the brain fog is real. I am a month out but still get fatigued easier. Sounds like you made great progress already. That first trip down the long hall can be scary stuff.
Kylia, what joyful news about Aubrey! I will think of her often, and send out thoughts/prayers that she continues to thrive!
GraceandMiracles, keep your protein high and your fats lower. It helps your body burn fat instead of the stuff your liver gives out. And keep the water going in. Are you keeping salt (sodium) down?
Heather, it's such grace to know the real situation! When my mother was dying in the 60s, the doctors all said not to tell her, so no one did! We never had that good talk, that closure. I was only 18, and my brother 14. Keep your friend close in your heart whether she can visit or not. I'm sorry you're losing her.
I've just been diagnosed with shingles. Since I'm quite contagious and could give babies or unvaccinated folks chicken pox, I need to stay home. There's another snowstorm coming Friday and Saturday. I guess I'm marooned!
Sharon Near Seattle on a figurative desert island. Thank goodness for audio books.4 -
I thought I posted from my phone earlier. I guess not. I was just complaining that although my boot is off I can't actually walk. PT tomorrow. Hope it gets better.
Barbie - if I lived near that field I'm be cantering on it.
SueW - you need to share pictures of your horses so I'm no alone
My daughter got a Rottsky puppy last week. The breeder was not very responsible. 5 out of 7 of the litter was gone before they were 5 weeks old. This little girl was 6 weeks and 3 days when my daughter got her. I'm in love.

Heather, thinking of you and so sorry your friend is so ill.
Sharon, shingles. Just so sorry you have to go through shingles. Hope it will be a mild case.
Barbi, love the field, what a great place to walk the dogs.
Wonderful that Aubrey is coming home. So much happening on our site. I read everyday and follow all the news but must get better at responding. Stay safe everyone in this odd Pacific NW weather. Looks like more snow is coming Friday and the weekend. Wishing everyone well,

The roads in my neighborhood finally dried up enough so I could take Sasha on a walk somewhere other than in the big field. She much prefers the roads. Also my friend and I can finally get to and from each other's houses so we'll be able to walk together tomorrow. The dogs have missed her and so have I. Then the snow will return on Friday and the story will start again.3

Heather: May your friend have her remaining days filled with peace and love and no pain. (((Hugs))) to you for being such an amazing friend.
Lisa: Feeling relief for you. Now onto the healing and therapy. Take care.
[/b]Kylia[/b]: Prayers continuing for Aubrey and going up for your Aunt.
PNW gals: I'm enjoying your take on snowy weather. Every winter my goal is to try to get through the season without falling on ice. Secret is to take small steps and keep your feet under your your hips.
Highlight of my day was taking DH to dentist during a heavy snowstorm. It was his first ride in the new car...what a christening. We just loved the seat warmers. Still waiting on word about the old car. (sigh)
Stay well. We got this, ladies.

So the news is ... my bones are not broken!
My tendons, in the area, are however rather messed up, and I've got a little tear in the hip joint cartilage. A hip labral tear, I think.
So I have an appointment with my PT on Wednesday to start looking at treatment options.

Kayla: Great news about the little one. Sorry to hear about your aunt. It's such a worry when families are spread far and wide.
Machka: Glad to know the MRI is over. Now to wait for the results.
Allie: That's a lot of stress. Hope Mary hold herself in check.
Barrie: What a great place to exercise your dog. She's beautiful.
Carol: i ❤️ pickles. Must try that next time I feel the snackies biting.
Lisa: Good to know you are up and about after op.
RoR I: Enjoy the 'new' car. I'm enjoying my 'new' iPhone, courtesy of my DYD, who updates her's often!
Hanging in here. Taking a few minutes before we go dancing to read and comment on a few. Sorry if I miss you out.

I actually don't mind MRIs at all. I've heard some people don't, but I sleep through them. It's a rare chance for "nap time" in the middle of the day.
That was my 3rd MRI in 2 months.

HeatherUK- Hugs to you. Losing a friend is hard. I hope she spends her days peacefully.
Machka- Great news that now broken though sometimes that is easier to fix.....please continue to take care of that!
LisaAR- Welcome home! You know what to do. You will be up and about in no time at all.
Sharon- Shingles? OH NO! Please take care.
Grace- I rarely eat less than 1200 a day. When I do, it means I am either sick or so busy that I don't think about eating. I don't have "cheat" days. There are days when I will max out my calories, life happens, events happen, but this is a learning curve on life's journey. Oh do I plateau! Sometimes just a week, other times for a month or more. Sometimes I lose and gain the same darn 2 pounds over and over! Some of the ladies are intermittent fasting. My blood sugar prevents that for me. I need to eat, so just have to make the best choice I can when confronted with choices. I have been on this journey for a while. It is learning your body, your mind, and what works for you. I plan on living with mindful eating, so dieting is not in my vocabulary. Even my snacking is generally mindful. I read this a couple of years ago, so will share again. Your body is like your car. Neither run on empty! You must fuel both with quality fuel or they don't run well. If you overfill your car, it spills over. So does your body. So too low of calories, could stall you out. We have been brain washed into thinking starving is better. Well, it doesn't work that way. Just some food for thought. As we get closer to our weight goals it gets slower to lose as the body is fighting to keep what it has. Try not to get too discouraged. Come here and visit us. Hugs! PS: my favorite snack these days is quality dark chocolate. Good for me and enough sweet for the sweet tooth.
First car trip. She is happy to be home!
So my Aunt was intubated again yesterday due to severe swelling in her throat. ENT was suppose to evaluate her last night. They are talking ventilator. My brother went to see her yesterday. The nurses tried to rouse her from her sedation, my brother told them no. He said she knows we are here. Don't make her uncomfortable on our account. While he did give the nurses both mine and our sister's names, I see no reason to make calls since he is keeping us updated. I figure the nurses in critical care have enough to do without answering the phones, when someone is willing to keep us posted. Thank you for the continued thoughts and prayers.
Dentist this morning for cleaning and crown prep. Ugh! This will be my first experience with this dentist for anything other than cleaning. Then off to work. More rain today. Roads are flooded everywhere. Fog again today.
Hugs to those in need or want!
Healing thoughts and prayers to those injured or ill!
Happy thoughts for everyone!
Safety nets for those dealing with snow and ice!
Wise choices today!
