........ It’s 15 degrees here tonight in Missouri. Looks like a week at the gym this next week as temperatures will b like this all week, so no walking this week!
Have a great Monday everyone!
There are great walking videos on YouTube which are excellent if you can't get out to the gym. I recommend Leslie Sansone as she does a variety of different levels and distances.

morning lovely ladies, ahh I am so lucky to be returning to work today to see my sleepy, grumpy students and get things going again. Despite feeling jet lagged yesterday, I got up and got laundry done, grocery shopping and the gym, I just powered through. I've made my red lentil soup, yogurt and hummus from scratch and am happy to see I didn't gain or lose a single ounce on the trip---pasta/pesto and tuscan ham, genovese salami, and oh yes, hazlenut gelato are happy memories, just for the taste of them, the experience of them, I didn't overdo. I enjoyed the food experiences (like Heather) and the proportions were spot on. On average we walked about 7 miles per day, about 14 flights per day also. Now for reentry into my working world, I can do this!
Kim and other gardeners I'm thinking about composting in my suburban back yard (new york) what do you think of commercial compost bins, such as Aerobin 4000 or a tumbling one?

See, I have been taking it slow. I didn’t ride the bike all week. The first time I all the years since I’ve been riding (over 15 years). Monday I plan to start riding again
Riding a recumbent bike at the gym is murder on my *kitten*! I don’t know how people do it, that hurts!
I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to try some recumbents outside, and yes, if you don't get them set up just right, they can be pretty awful.
Riding comfort is all about getting the right saddles.
Personally, I use a Brooks on all my outdoor bicycles, and oddly enough, a cheap saddle that came with one of my bicycles on my indoor bicycle. Normally, we'd remove that kind of saddle and toss it into a box and replace it with a decent one, but for some reason it just seems to work for indoor cycling. <<shrug>>

Machka: I am sorry that your registration system is so unpredictable. Are they having computer trouble? Personnel trouble?
I don't know what it is. It seems to me that they are very unprepared at the start of each semester in many ways. The lecture starts on Wednesday (day after tomorrow) and the unit outline isn't available yet. It's like, suddenly they wake up and realise they've got students coming and classes to organise. I've been to a lot of different universities and colleges, and this one is the worst for this.DH has been having a lot of health problems lately and will be seeing his MS doctor soon. I plan to go along. He’s been very discouraged lately because of bowel problems. He is now talking about giving up our RV trip to see the kids, and sending me by air on my own. I am hoping we get a better plan than that and pray that his doctor can help him improve his situation. We’re planning to visit our attorney and have new wills drawn up. That is the smart thing to do and should have been done ages ago. :ohwell:
Katla in misty NW Oregon
That reminds me, I need to call our attorney and get her moving on our wills!!
I hope you can come up with a good holiday plan. I'm also struggling a bit with ours. We'd like to go to Canada in the middle of our winter (Canada's summer) but it is a very long flight and I'm just not sure how my husband would handle it. I suspect we'd have to break it up into segments, but that can be a pain trying to determine where to hop to. Hobart to Sydney is obvious, but then what? In the past we've headed over to New Zealand and then to Vancouver but the NZ to Van hop is long. I don't know if Hobart to Brisbane to Tokyo to Van would be any better?? We'll have to figure something out.

Power just kicked on about 15 minutes ago; after being out for 12 hours. Waiting for the house to heat up and my nose to stop running. (thermostat read 48 when I woke up at 3am)! It's been a crazy 24 hours. Quick overview of the past 24 hours. Yesterday was my day off and I spent it at my MIL's house getting it ready to put up for sale. My room to work on was the kitchen. Gads! The woman saved EVERYTHING! She also had a TON of small appliances and gadgets. Anyway, I was there with my two brothers in law and their wives. Both couples are very well off financially and told me to take/put my name on whatever I wanted; so with their blessing, I am getting a lot of much needed furniture to replace my old stuff, linens, a few kitchen appliances, some storage units, a couple of appliances. I was/am very grateful. Now I need to look into renting a truck to haul all of it. The house is going on the market in two weeks, so they want everything out before then. I got home, after a harrowing drive on icy roads in wind gusts of 60-80 mph, at about 5pm. My husband's twin brother was here (he is the one that is a total a**). I was polite, because my mama raised me right. AFter he left, my son went out to pick up dinner as I cleaned the house to get ready for a new work week. We were just sitting down to dinner at 6pm and the power went out. *sigh I went to bed at 8:30, after doing a bit of prep work for crafts/activities by lamp light. I figured I would get a good eight hours before having to get up. Nope. The evil twin decided to send a text to the other brothers and their wives about our "situation" and my husbands health issues. (I guess my hubby was venting; not asking for help). Evil twin didn't realize that the group message he used included Tim and I; and his text contained many exaggerations and lies that my hubby never even said. He must have realized that it also went to us because he sent a private apology text for sharing and that he didn't mean to send it to us... Then the other brothers started texting with questions. IN a very short text, I simply replied: "We will NOT lose our house. I am angry. You have overstepped the boundaries. All bills are getting paid and we do NOT require your assistance." Tim was asleep when my phone was pinging like crazy with these texts. Needless to say, the adrenaline that the anger fueled me with kept me up until about eleven. I woke up at 3am, because I was so stressed in my sleep, all of my limbs were clenched, my jaw was clenched. Grrr...I really can't stand my hubby's twin. Tim heard me up and moving and making coffee (thanking GOD for a gas stove) at 3am and came into the kitchen and saw the messages on his phone. BOY, did s**t hit the fan?! He is angry, angry angry. It is going to be a long day. My kids are arriving and I have Trentin until 10:30 tonight. No sitting and watching a movie for me. My eyes would close in seconds. It is going to be a struggle to make it through book time. Maybe we will have book time at the kitchen table so I am less comfortable...
Ugh! Now I have spent all of my time venting. Sending love to you all! You ladies are my little slice of sanity on most days! Thank you for that! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)14 -
I was reminded of this quote this morning as I walked through snow for the umpteenth day while more snowflakes fell.
That reminded me ...
Back in 2012, my husband and I did a Round The World trip over about 8 months ... with our bicycles, of course.
We left Australia in late autumn/very early winter (early June) and travelled through Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan in early summer. Then we hopped across to Europe and finished the summer and went into autumn. In October, when France and the UK were at the height of autumn, we returned to Canada for a bit, more autumn, then chased autumn down to Florida and across to San Diego. Only as we came up the coast did we go into winter. We spent Christmas in Canada, then flew across to Western Australia in mid-January (summer), and by the time we got back to where we started again, it was autumn.
So ... no springs ... just a whole lot of autumn!

Today WILL be a better day for me. I'm determined to make it so. Work helps. As do all of you, who help me keep my perspective. I'm drawing a line under yesterday's self-pity party, and pitching it out the door. The image below is how I'm feeling about my own indulgence from yesterday.

NYKAREN
I have two that I bought at Aldi's a few years ago. They have tops but air holes on the sides. I do have to remember to add water occasionally. These do not turn the compost so I do have to be careful I remember to have a a good mix of green grass clippings), brown (Leaves and brown paper like paper bags) , soil from my old pots. I add some sticks too for air because mine doesn't turn. I take the finished compost from the bottom. Because it is not the big piles like the community compost it does at least six months for mine to finish composting.
Heat, waters, air, and the right mix of composting materials makes the difference how quickly things compost.
I would go on line and read reviews about each one from those who have actually used each type. Either will need to have a sunny spot in your garden so it gets the heat it needs to work better.
I like mine because it gives me a place to compost my kitchen scrapes no meat or fats. when the weather is warmer. I don't do it in the winter. Too hard to get out there and too cold to compost. This in why I like the enclosed ones. When I tried to do this with piles in our yard it would attract animals that would dig up the pile to get at the scrapes.
You will also not want it too close to your house because there is some smell to the composting too.
Hope this helps.
Kelly (((Hugs))) and prayers. Is there a place you can put your phone in your room so it is there for an emergency but the pinging can be reduced so it does not wake you up? I still try to follow the rule like with phone calling no calling or texting after 8 pm unless it is an emergency, so I do not disturb a friend or relative. Unless it is an emergency no need to send or read texts into the night like that. It is disruptive to others sleep. Those who sent you those texts might not realize that they woke you up.
Be kind to yourself today you went through major stress. Do what ever healthy activities work for you writing to us, walking, deep breathing, reduce alcohol and sugar, and stay away from evil twin if you can. He knows he upset you and may try to do it again soon. I see this in classrooms all the time when another students knows he/she can upset someone they get a twisted sense of power by goading the student. I tell the student who is upset one of two things or perhaps both do not let that student have your power or just because you see the hook you do not need to bite. Those of you who have been on here for awhile have heard me use that quote before.
I agree Twin over stepped his bounds. Difficult to have a relationship when respect and trust is lacking. For different reasons this is what happened to older brother and myself. I do send him a Christmas card but that is the extent of the contact I will have with him.
I am proud of DS he was very upset about something and rather than turn to drink he called me and we worked out different ways he could approach the problem. In his case the problem was not an immediate emergency I told him Mark Twain would put a problem aside for three days if possible and then revisit the problem. Many times the problem had resolved itself. If not he know his head was clearer and could work on the problem in a much more productive manner. Not an easy thing to do. Also fits another one of my favorite quotes between the stimulus and the action there is a space. What you do with that space can make all the difference.

My body is fighting with menopause. My body wants to lose weight but menopause won't let it lol. I started eating clean and reducing my meat consumption. But what usually works for me is low carb. I can't live on salad and beans. I recently hurt my disc in my back, but can now walk and lift arm weights. I try to eat 1200 cal a day and limit my carbs to under 100 but can't seem to lose. Any suggestions? I am 5 ft. 2 and weight 172. My first goal is not be in the obese category!3

(((Kelly))) Hugs and prayers for you and Tim.
Lisa ~ I didn't realize you had had a bad day but wishing you a great one today.
Saw the results of some of the many blood tests my dr. prescribed last week. Seems I have way too much iron in my system. Curious as to what she will tell me to do. Love my red meat and shell fish and eggs.... And, it seems that the wine I love doesn't help at all.
Beautiful sunny day yesterday and today after 7 straight days of rain. Wonderful to see the sun! Supposed to last until Wednesday.
Made a Coconut Poke cake yesterday and had one piece. Sent the rest home with DnL to enjoy. Will not make another one as every delicious bite felt like I was consuming so many fattening calories.

Machka, I love your story of traveling and finding autumn everywhere.
Lisa, A woman I much admired told me during her long battle with cancer, that she would set a timer for a certain number of minutes and at the end of the time, she'd say to herself, "OK, that's enough time for self-pity, now back to business".
Kelly, I am so sorry that you have a family member making so much emotional trouble for you and your husband.
We stayed up late to watch the Oscars last night. I had only seen one of the nominated movies but I enjoyed it all. Jake is a big movie fan and watching the Oscars is one of his favorite shows of the year.

Carol have you thought about donating blood. Years ago I say a segment on T.V. about a man with a similar problem. The answer for him was to periodically have blood drawn. It reduced his iron levels to a safe level.1

The atmospheric river is here and flood warnings effective from Saturday through Tuesday afternoon. 5+" of rain yesterday and over 1" since midnight this morning. County roadmaster offers sandbags but cautions us not to travel if at all possible.
On line shopping at Home Depot for propane range, found the one I like, good price... BUT they won't ship it either to our home or to our nearest Home Depot 30 miles away. Customer service chatgal really tried but no way. Guess price was too good to be true.
I'd love to compost our kitchen waste (egg shells, coffee grounds, the occasional off veggie) and gardenstuff. Think this might be the best odor-free option for bear country composting, but not only is it $$$ but the reviews say it takes two strong, patient, determined people to assemble.

Heather what is preventing you from using your new laptop? Brava for googling how to temporarily deactivate the panic button, and con VERY grats to your DDIL, DS and especially you and DH for the champions that you are!
Margaret "now lets work together to see how to fix it...lets focus now ... because it takes less time and energy to fix it when it done correctly the first time... measure twice cut once " Back in the day our company put us through "Quality" training. It gave us a common vocabulary so we could address inter personal and inter departmental issues to fix instead of blame. One of my favorites was the "one-ten-one hundred rule" that being, the cost to fix a mistake being one-if you find and fix it your self, 10 if it's found and fixed in house, and one hundred if the customer has to bring it to your attention. "do not let... have your power... you do not need to bite (the hook)" Will try to channel your wisdome when next I need to forsake wrath

pip so glad to hear you getting back to your naughty ol' self. You crack me up! But please, don't take such chances with your survival in future...
Lenora good to hear from you, Oww!!! Ditto what Michele said, especially about the possible overmedication. (((hugs)))
Michele When I read "...plans (PMS) sound..." I didn't immediately think People's Memorial Society
Carol $1500 to clean up after the power company cut down trees? :noway: We just had 5 dying tan oaks cut down for $650. They guys cut the trunks into stove lengths and burned the branches. We'll rake the yard (whenever it dries out enough) and gradually move the logs to the firewood area for seasoning. "Too much iron" in your system? Does anyone else in your family show it?
Okie happy smiles!
Rita not sure I'd want to be THAT close to a vulture...
KJ Oh, oh OH! What a day! No power then stupid move by DH's twin. Putting the best possible face on it... rotten he doesn't understand about venting, and instead tries to "fix" what ain't broke. Hope that was it and not just plain ol' maliciousness. Really hope your DH doesn't let his anger spill over onto you, for both your own health's sakes.
Machka your chasing autumn world tour sounds just right. Autumn weather is the best and October has always been my favorite month. Love love LOVE the happy smiles in your pics. Bravissima!
Karen in VA love you right back. Please let us know how you're doing.
Welcome Naomi, kimiray. Brava for walking and lifting arm weights! At 4'11" with 45 lbs to take off, the best advice I've received is to weigh-not-measure food (a real eye-opener) and be honest in logging.
Maybe the stove being unavailable is a good thing, just heard from the bank that our new payment will be $103 more/month than she quoted, something about ours being a manufactured home . Banker wants me to come in and discuss, but I ain't goin' nowhere in this storm.
Still hope the loan comes through. If not, we'll have to really scrape for the next five years to pay for the new roof... AND we'll have to strip off all the extras I wanted (propane stove, roof water catchment barrels, compost tumbler etc.)

Lisa in AR: I love Queen of your own life’s message.
Kimirayray: Stop by here often for friendship and support. Let MFP set your calorie goals and fill those calories with foods that your body can manage. Count every calorie. My body prefers high protein, and that means I also have relatively high fat. I feel good and am healthier than ever before in my life. Some women who’ve stopped in here have had a pattern of setting high goals, over eating one time and giving up. Everyone goes over occasionally. Don’t quit if you’ve gone over your limit on a day. Do your best to stay within your limits the next day. Here is my favorite motivational quotation:
“Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?”
― L.M. Montgomery
Barbara the Southern Oregon Coastie: Composting is not an option for us in our townhouse, but DSIL has acreage and has a system that works well for her. She stacks bales of hay to create a bin at the front end of her garden, and at the end of the gardening season she fills the hay bale bin with the stalks and vines that were the year’s plants. By spring the hay bales and the plant waste composts itself and she spreads in all over the garden and tills it in. Just an idea. :flowerforyou:

Katla - I hope the doctor can help your husband. It would be a shame for him to miss seeing the children too.
Kelly - Hugs for having to deal with Tim’s twin. Sounds like he doesn’t take after the other brothers at all.
Margaret - what great advice you give. I love reading what you write.
Carol - I have a friend that has to give blood regularly for high iron as well. I’m not sure it is donating though just having blood drawn.
Barbara - thanks for all the crossing. I am hoping you get your loan approved. We live in an OLD manufactured home and struggle trying to get anything done with it.
I just talked to my Mom in the nursing home. The nursing staff was very quick to get her, from the time I texted until I spoke to Mom was about 3 minutes. They told me to call anytime it is not a bother. I have had this option since the Fall but have been putting it off because I didn’t want to be a bother. Mom didn’t talk for long, I was interrupting her painting and colouring but it was very nice hearing her voice.

Hi all!
Boy, was I KNACKERED yesterday after the kids had gone. My whole body was stiff and aching and I missed a bit of Endeavour by falling asleep.
This morning I did most of my exercises, but made up for the bit I missed by LOTS of walking around town and back from Brighton. About 5 miles I reckon.
Last night I at last, after 10 years or so, persuaded DH to get a takeaway delivery!!! We were both sooooooooooooo tired. We ordered tandoori mixed grill, dhall makhani and cauliflower baji. Excellent. Lots of salad came with it. The joy of living in a city!
Today I met my friend for lunch. She came by train and I met her at the station. We went to the vegetarian restaurant again. Very, very good, but not cheap.
Then we walked along the seafront in brilliant sunshine. Loads of people on the beach! It was 70°F in Wales yesterday. A record.
I saw her back to the bus and then walked on via my favourite bakery. Focaccia was bought. But it is in the freezer.
So a good day with 800 calories burned.
KJ - I am in awe of how hard you work and all the stress you go through. I would be a broken woman. Detach yourself from the evil twin if you can. His opinion matters nought. And leave the phone somewhere else. Mine is always in my handbag downstairs and I never hear it. That is a bit annoying when it's important, but most people know to call me on the home phone if it's urgent. I also sleep with ear plugs. DH is my ears.
Love Heather UK xxxxxxx3 -
This morning I had a dog fight to break up. In order to make the bed in the RV, I have to be on one bed to make the other. I started making my DH's bed and found Wicket curled up under the blanket. I moved her to the other side but she didn't like that and stated back to where she was. Well Brownie decided to help me by growling and 'telling' Wicket to stay put. That turned into a fight with me in the middle. Wicket loses her control when she fights but Brownie will stop if I control her. I had Brownie in my arms but Wicket kept biting. She but my boob and my hip. Left teeth marks on my hip and my boob still hurts but no blood.
Unfortunately, I am scheduled for a mammogram and am sitting here waiting to be called in. Routine screening and hoping dog didn't do any real damage to my boob.
Update on this day later.

Kevrit! Good grief! B careful hope the mammo was ok!
KJ - ignore the husband’s family. I agree with whoever said lose the phone. I know that’s hard but can u block them for a bit if u need to keep phone close? When u can’t hear the hurtful comments, it’s wonderful!
I feel for u because that’s the kind of stress that makes me eat. So hang in there!
Terry thanks for Leslie Sansone suggestion! She is great. I can still get to the gym- just can’t b outside in these wind chill temps but a small prob to have!
Everyone have a great evening/ rest of the day!0 -
Rita, I’m so sorry about your dog bites. Good grief! Your poor boob. Bites and squeezes on the same day.
When my husband had to go to urgent care with a dog bite, they reported it to some government agency. I can’t remember who, but they called and asked him all kinds of questions. I think they made the owners quarantine the dog for a while. I remember a Dave apologizing to them saying he didn’t mean to get the dog in trouble. They were nice about it though and actually wrote us a check for his copay and drugstore bill. The point of this story is that I hope the mammogram people don’t report your dog.
Speaking of urgent care, Dave went yesterday. He’s been having dizzy spells and just an all around weird feeling in his chest. EKG and bloodwork was normal. End result is they have no idea why he’s feeling weird. He had this once before and even had a stress test. All normal. I think it’s a side effect of one of his meds, but who knows which one and he needs them all. It hasn’t stopped his obsession with walking.
I’m procrastinating my paperwork for my online class and my volunteer ministry gig. Tomorrow, I’ll get it done.2 -
Happy Let's All Eat Right Day!
"Let's All Eat Right Day celebrates Adelle Davis, an influential nutritionist of the mid-twentieth century, who decried food additives and championed whole, unprocessed foods. These ideas were often seen as eccentric at the time, but are mainstream beliefs today. It was her thought that food played a huge role in health and could prevent disease and illness and help people recover from disease and illness. Beyond this, she thought healthy eating could help heal some of society's other ills."
Beth - I'm finding that the meal subscription (Home Chef in our case, but we've tried Hello Fresh and Blue Apron as well) cuts way down on our food waste because they only send exactly what we need for each meal. However, the packaging and shipping contributes to more overall waste so I'm kind of on the fence. Think maybe we just need to pick some of our favorite recipes from Home Chef and try them again on their own, buying just one bell pepper, one sweet potato, etc. as needed. At least if we have leftover vegetables they can go into the compost pile. I'm also using a lot more frozen veggies than I used to. We're limited on freezer space though. We had a lovely big upright deep freeze but there was no place to put it when we moved into this house so we gave it away.
Sue - Rinn and Oskar are beautiful! Hope all the cats work things out among themselves soon.
Heather - Glad the half marathon went well. Sounds like your son has a lot to celebrate!
Rebecca - LOL! Loved the 1979 to 2019 comparison. I can't identify with all of those, but I can identify with enough of them!
Naomi - Great job on finding a recipe that can work for everyone!
Rita - Oh, no, I'm so sorry you got in the middle of a dog fight. That can be pretty scary. We had two who never did get along, and they were serious about doing each other harm. Safely managing them was exhausting sometimes.
I guess the new iron supplement and all the iron-rich foods are paying off, because I was able to give blood on Friday. Thank goodness! Now I just wish I knew why I still don't have any energy. I did everything I was supposed to do, including getting my steps in and spending a half-hour on the ski machine, but it felt like I was slogging through the mud every step of the way.
I was kind of under the weather yesterday so maybe that took more out of me than I thought. I felt fine, but for some reason my digestive processes were not working right.
On the up side, it was a beautiful day here today and Luna and I had nowhere I needed to be, so I enjoyed just taking my time with this afternoon's walk.

Mamo looked good. No bruises on my boob, just sore. The bruises are on my hip. I kicked the dog off the bed when she did this then caught her head between my knees while holding the chiuahua who was good bybthat time until my DH grabbed the raptor! Lol.

Someone did that here, the wind came up and it took 3 of us to close it so it wouldn't get ripped off. They were lucky in that it was a manual one that we could close. We can't help with electric ones
