@7lenny7 Fantastic race report, but dang that race looked brutal; serious respect and congrats to both you and Kody for that one!

I was scheduled for 3-5 miles today. I walked/sogged through 4 miles. I wanted 5 but I was starting to cough at 4 so I called it.
Shared this on my personal FB earlier and thought I'd drop it here for discussion.
TL/DR: Female cyclist stopped during a race because she got too close to the men's group.

might be a little irritated that the marathon does not have any information on their aid stations. what fluids? what gels? snacks?
@mbaker566 Can you email the race director? Maybe you can post your questions on their race Facebook page. I am sure other people have the same questions.0 -
Three more miles for tonight.
16 total for the month.
64 miles left to 80 for March.9 -
I just found out today I'm 3cm (1 and bit inches) taller than I thought! feels very satisfying typing that into things and seeing my BMI drop a little. I'm now that much closer to being a normal BMI (yes I know a crappy metric but its what I'm using atm). Oh and when your 5'3" that extra inch makes a difference!!!11

I saw that! I can understand wanting some distance between the two races for safety reasons, but it really stinks that they just stopped her and let everyone else catch up. I would be pretty annoyed if I was way out in front during a race and then the race officials made me lose my lead.4 -

Did 6miles on the dreadmill as a test run to see how my injury was. Feel fine so should be able to return to running. No idea what happened. Very odd.14

Hi everyone, I am all bran new and shiny to this running business. I have always wanted to run but never pushed myself hard enough to really give it a go.
I have a 3 year old and a 3 month old that I stay home with and really want to do this for me, not to mention to be able to set a good example for the kids. Today I started week 1 of C25k, my goal for this month is to continue to push myself through the c25k program. I am doing it every other day and also doing a 30 day planking challenge.
Everyone around me is pretty sedentary and I am hoping sharing this experience with other newbies and long time runners will help to motivate me. My long term goal is to be able to run in some 5ks in the area.
Thanks for reading my novel introduction and thank you in advance for the support. 😊16 -

Welcome. It’s great to have you here. As a mother of youngsters I know the ups and downs of fitting running into the schedule, but it’s so worth it. Running keeps me sane!8 -

I third this! Mine just hit the terrible teens and oh boy do I need my runs to keep me sane!
Having completed c25k again at the weekend, this morning marked the start of a new training cycle. I'm taking this post-injury comeback very very slowly so chose Hal Higdon's novice 8km plan as the next thing to follow. This week includes three 2 mile runs, which makes it a cutback week compared to last week. I also recently played about with a pace calculator on Runners World's website and discovered that even though I feel like a snail I've been running my easy runs (in other words all of them except races) too fast, so the focus is firmly on slowing down. Also, last autumn during HM training I ran almost entirely flat routes, which is something I feel I need to change this time round. So rather than my usual short flat out and back route this morning, I chose a circular one the second half of which includes a lot of hills. The pace thingy gave me 7'55" per kilometre as my easy pace, and my times were 8'08", 7'54" and 7'51" so I'd say that was progress but while the hills kept me slow it made for a far from easy workout. Hmm.
Itching to increase the distance, I'm not very good at this waiting and taking it gradually thing. I wake up in the middle of the night and think about my next run, then (if it's a running day) and tired during my run cause I was awake fantasising about it half the night!
March goal: 40km Done: 7.2km.11 -
So you can tell it is almost spring here. I dropped my coffee when getting in the truck this morning and it froze within seconds making a patch of ice I almost slipped on. Yep. Definitely spring time.13
-
@jenerferzzz Welcome. I cannot comment on any link between running and sanity.
3-1 Rest
3-2 10.5k easy
3-3 11k slow
3-4 10.5k recovery
3-5 Rest
March Total: 32k
March Goal: 175k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Scheduled rest day today. I have no idea why my legs feel ready to run on rest days and ready to rest on run days.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K
6-1 Freedom 5K
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5k6 -

I know absolutely NOTHING about cycling, but this would really annoy me! Plus, I'm not sure why is would be a problem if she were in the mix of men at the finish line. What am I missing? Why are there separate races for men and women in the first place? Is it just to keep the numbers and congestion down? Could they not just stagger starts based on projected speeds of the racers, like they do in marathons? So many questions? (Definitely obvious I know nothing about cycling, huh?)

Same thoughts. I am slower than most female runners even, but nobody cares who is in front of whom, right?!2 -
i ran out of time last night to do my long run. i wanted to get more miles but my slow pace didn't allow for it. overall, feeling strong. i might have gotten the full 13 if i had not procrastinated. and then forgotten my water in the car and had to run back for that. the ice has been horrible. my normal commute would have taken over an hour instead of 25 min. so round in circles i go. looks like the spring might be making an appearance this weekend11

Drafting off of the men maybe? I'd think they'd just tell her not to, though, rather than interfere with the whole women's race. There would've been confusion with the cars closing the men's race and/or at the front of the women's race... I don't know either. Maybe in the moment they didn't have time to think it through properly. From what I understand, going out early like that probably meant she wasn't going to win, but we'll never know that for sure since they stopped her like that.1 -
3/5 - 14.6 km run while questioning if I even want to continue with marathon training
Seriously. I'm healthy physically and emotionally. Nothing hurts. I like running. But even my "medium runs" feel long at this point and I just don't know if I actually WANT to do all this work. But I keep telling myself to "try this week's long run and see how it goes". I'm not signed up yet.
It was also beautiful outside. What's my problem?

Ready for outside running. Not a treadmill fan.
3/1 - 4.5 miles
3/3 - 3 miles

Thank you @workaholic_nurse @MegaMooseEsq @Scott6255 @MobyCarp @Avidkeo @Tramboman @quilteryoyo @PastorVincent @rheddmobile @hoshaugh73 @zeesparrow @kristinegift @kgirlhart @martaindale @lporter @garygse and @shanaber for your comments! I seem to struggle with keeping the report to a reasonable length for these longer races and I failed miserably.
With renewed purpose for getting ready for the Tillamook Burn in April I had a 6 mile run planned for last night and I was intent on getting out as soon as I could, but I ended up talking myself out of it.
I had a rough weekend of running in the snow and could use a recovery day. My plan had 4 days in a row which I'm not used to yet. I had 49 miles planned this week which nearly double what I've been doing for the last three weeks and 17 miles more than any week so far this year. I decided the smart thing to do is to take a rest day and instead made some Mongolian beef for supper, except I used some venison. Yum!
I do need to bear down though, and get more time on my feet. I had a 19 day stretch in February where I only ran 4 times. That's not going to get me across the finish line. I also need to get back on track with stair climbing. When work got crazy I quit taking stair climbing breaks.
I've got 8 weeks before my next race and in that time I want to get in four 20+ mile runs and have at least one hard run per week focused on hills since that race has 8700 feet of vertical gain and loss.10 -
I ran on actual, dry asphalt and concrete this morning AND it was 10-15 degrees (F) warmer than it has been! It was still below freezing, and much of the run was still on packed snow and ice.
Three miles done, a little faster than I should have but ... there was bare ground!!12 -
Maybe @ddmom0811 can provide some insight on the cycling article since she is a cyclist as well as a runner. I just know I would be pretty upset, in any competition, to be told I needed to hold back on my race and lose my lead so as not to interfere with the men's race....5

I got back from my conference in Minneapolis Sat night really late and my car was dead at the airport on floor 10 of parking garage. I had no idea that Prius's have a little battery as well as the big one. It was too late to deal with it that night, so that kind of ruined Sunday for me - so I had two rest days in a row. Yeah, not happy about that, but oh well, it's all good.
I loved downtown Minneapolis! Although I only ventured 4 blocks away. It snowed and was beautiful.
Happy Mardi Gras! Two pieces of King cake (so far) and no baby for me!
3/1 - 4 miles + strength training legs
3/2 - rest day/travel day
3/3 - rest day / life
3/4 - 4.5 miles + transform app - arms
3/5 - 5 miles + tbd
Tot: 13.5/7012 -
Got out last night for 2.4 miles. Had to dig my actual cold weather gear back out because it was 34 F after being in the 70's just a couple days ago! Craziness. I did not see many people out except for a few that were walking their dogs. There are usually several people out running in the evening but it was just so cold.
I did get to try out a pair of gloves I got on clearance at the end of season, and didn't care for them. They seemed to fit well when I tried them on, but while running they sort of slid down my fingers and it was too hard to actually use the fingertips. I let my husband try them on and they seem tighter on him. So, he got a new pair of gloves. At least they were cheap.
3/2: 6.5 miles
3/4: 2.4 miles
March total: 8.9 miles
March goal: 35 miles
