    I went out for 5k this morning. Left leg was aching a bit before I went out but eased around 3k. I did the squat rockers @rheddmobile suggested and no pain since getting back - though only been an hr. I'm worried it's my shoes - the ache got worse when I out my shoes on this morning but then I've been bare feet all weekend hanging out St home. but then it's not my usual pain. It "feels" like it's in the ankle but when I massage it's definitely along the tibia with no pain on the tendon in the ankle and foot, suggesting referred pain. So I think I've just ramped up too fast, I had that 23k run/walk without training 2 weeks ago and then I've kicked into running 5 days regularly and minimum of 5k, where the few weeks prior I was doing 3-4 km with the occasional 5k.

    Am I over thinking this? I really don't want it to be shoes because that means I have no choice but to make a 2hr drive to town. And these are brand new. I honestly think its overdoing it and I'll just run gentle 5ks for the next few weeks and stretch/massage to help it settle...

    You might hate this, but I remember my coach telling me that over 80 percent of the time, shin splints are caused by shoes...

    @ContraryMaryMary woo hoo looks like you had a blast! I love Rotorua. I need to find ways of travelling more to do more events, we are just so far away from everything sigh

    We took the entire family (and another whole family) and Friday off to make a whole, long weekend of it. Such a blast - luging, sky swing, Rainbow Springs, hot pools, the whole Rotorua thing. Was awesome.

    Way to go, @7lenny7 and Kody! Sorry you got stranded, but I'm glad you were able to avoid actually being on the roads during the storm. My grandparents-in-law live in KC but we've never visited in the winter, although we have been stuck between the cities and Sioux Falls visiting family more than once. One time we had the dogs with us and had a really tough time finding a place that would take them and wasn't full.

    The only way to know for sure would be to run in different, known good, shoes. If the problem goes away/improves then it was the shoes. If not, then it might be something else.

    I knew you'd say that. sigh. Its been several hours, and the pain is greatly reduced after the stretching that I did, no where near what it was this morning. so convincing me its not the shoes, but ramping up too fast, and stretching is the way to go.

    PS, oww to groin pains. amazing how we can run forever but something as stupid as standing out of a chair can throw us completely.

    @rusgolden this may work. If not maybe @garygse still has the design.. i have it at home.
    I just realized this is SISU. Not embrace the suck haha, silly me. 😕 Maybe Gary will design an ETS shirt? Ah well.

    nope wont work...

    Thank you @Elise4270 --- Zazzle says it is a private design (maybe that is why you said it won't work...). All good... My DW probably doesn't think I need another running shirt right now anyway. Lol.

    @quilteryoyo So sorry about your uncle-hugs to you and your family (and get well, too!)
    Thank you.
    @rheddmobile Thank you. It looks like that was some flood. Glad they have a detour already set. Also looks like a really nice area to run.
    @martaindale Thank you. Sorry that your daughter had a disappointing competition. Being last can be a little disheartening.
    @7lenny7 I agree that running in the snow is definitely a lot harder than on clear ground. Unfortunately, miles is miles. Effort on the other hand.... Love the pictures of your dog in the snow. Looks like he/she really enjoys it. Just read your race report. Wow, that looks really cold and intense. You and Kody did great!
    @rusgolden Congratulation on the PR!

    @7lenny7 fantastic race report. That looks miserable and I'm so impressed with you and Kody for completing it and apparently having some fun too! You guys are tough!

    @rusgolden congrats on your half marathon PR! Awesome job!

    Long travel day for me so no chance to run. I am not happy to be back in the snow but ready to get in my own bed.

    Seriously! And Kody is ELEVEN? Dang. For a dog his size that is pretty darn up there. Impressive both of you!

    @7lenny7 I can't decide if your race is more awesome or more horrifying! The frozen divots knocking your feet all around sounds like a worse version of the terrain which just flattened me at my half - large stony gravel over sand. It was just exhausting on my hips never landing straight and always sliding, I can't imagine doing that only for miles and miles with wet feet in slush! Also, I am a huge Kody fan!

    @rusgolden Congrats on a great race!

    @PastorVincent Hope your pull isn't serious, it must be so frustrating to get injured when you weren't even running!

    @rusgolden congrats on an awesome race and a PR to boot! Nice shirt, too.
    @PastorVincent I sure hope you get that pain sorted out ASAP. Take the time you need to let it heal properly.
    @MegaMooseEsq We used to live in KC a long time ago and 3 or 4 times we'd get stuck in Iowa on the way up or way back when visiting our families in Minnesota for Thanksgiving. We always though traveling for Thanksgiving would be safer but it never seemed to work out that way.
    @ContraryMaryMary great group photo!
    @juliet3455 the river routes I normally see run right along the river and are in the flood plain so are very flat. I didn't think about other areas having different characteristics.
    @hoshaugh73 that trail looks beautiful! I hear it calling my name. After yesterday's tough snow run, that dry dirt looks pretty good right now.
    @workaholic_nurse I'm glad you enjoyed the trails!
    @Avidkeo I have no help or advice for you but I hope you get those shin splints sorted out soon.

    @7lenny7 It's a gorgeous trail! Best part is, it's less than a mile away from my house!

    Congrats on your run and thanks for sharing your race report. My dog and I are just starting to do longer runs together, 9 miles is the furthest she's gone so far, but it's good to see she can probably build up to 20 miles!
