The frozen divots knocking your feet all around sounds like a worse version of the terrain which just flattened me at my half - large stony gravel over sand. It was just exhausting on my hips never landing straight and always sliding, I can't imagine doing that only for miles and miles with wet feet in slush! Also, I am a huge Kody fan!
@rusgolden Congrats on a great race!
@PastorVincent Hope your pull isn't serious, it must be so frustrating to get injured when you weren't even running!
All of this! I ran 2 miles yesterday. Almost didn't, but finally drug my butt outside after 10... which meant sunshine! Should have grabbed my sunglasses to block the reflections off the bright snow, but otherwise it was nice to be in the sun for once.6 -
First run of March done! Just a short one at the gym as my cold hasn't completely gone but it was so nice to be running again.
04Mar - 1.8 miles (treadmill)
Total so far: 1.8 miles of 40.7 -
I have unfortunately not been able to run in March at all yet! Thanks to the knee/hip pain that’s been bothering me for ages and my *kitten* health insurance, it’s gonna be a bit before I’m able to see a physical therapist. So I’m improvising by taking a week off of running and seeing if there’s any improvement. This is my fifth day without a run and I hate it I’m still feeling it so I don’t have a lot of hope that it’s gonna go away on its own. My body knows best, so I’m listening to it. I may end up postponing my half marathon for a few months down the road when I’m feeling more up to it. I’m bummed, but hey, that’s life. I’m gonna adjust my running goal based on how this week goes but I think I’m gonna lower it pretty significantly-probably by half.9

Highly recommend good polarizing sunglasses for snow running. Makes a big difference in visibility. There are many out there at many price points, just need to shop around and see what works best for you.5 -
Finally, my race report from last weekends race.
@7lenny7 I saved your race report for my Monday morning coffee read, and wow! What a race!! That snow/mud combo would totally do me in; I'm a total baby when my legs are slipping and sliding all over the place. Way to tough it out! Plus Kody sounds like the ultimate trail dog. He's gonna have his own trail community fan club soon!8 -
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
03/01/19 :::: 2.9 :::: 2.9
03/02/19 :::: 5.5 :::: 8.4
03/03/19 :::: 0.0 :::: 8.4
03/04/19 :::: 3.1 :::: 11.4
My schedule is a little off today because I have to stay late at work - and I'm not feeling adapted back to the cold and snow. So I did a morning run on the treadmill to get that out of the way before picking up my very happy to be home pup from boarding. Not really feeling this back to work thing.
I somehow repeatedly whack my hand on the treadmill almost every time and my poor pinky finger knuckle is constantly getting bruised. Another downside of treadmill running.8 -
3/1 = 10.5 miles
3/2 = 12 miles
3/3 = rest day
3/4 = rest day
I slept though my 5 phone alarms this morning. The temp dropped into the 20s last night and my bed was very warm and comfy. I might try to squeeze in a few miles tonight when i get off work? If I can find the motivation... I hate running in the evening after work.
Oh well, at least I had some fun this morning before heading to the morning grind. I got to gross my husband out by pulling off the last dying piece of the toenail I damaged running in Miami. Good times, good times. #relationshipgoals
Happy Monday everyone!
March Goal Miles 150 / Miles to Date = 22.5 miles
Upcoming Races:
3/9 = Zooma Texas Half
4/6 = Wanderlust Half
5/4 = Wisconsin Marathon (Mittens Challenge Part 1)
5/5 = Kalamazoo Marathon (Mittens Challenge Part 2)
6/15 = Fit Foodie 5k13 -
I mentioned the Wunjo pack a few times now. It is a great hydration pack, and since the most expensive model is only $60 it has a WAY GREAT price. Seen too many packs in the 100s range for price, which this Wunjo just proves silly. Anyways here is a very cheesy review of it :

3-1 Rest
3-2 10.5k easy
3-3 11k slow
3-4 10.5k recovery
March Total: 32k
March Goal: 175k
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Partly cloudy; 16 degrees F; winds light and variable. My calves and my hip flexors were grumbling again today, so I told them that if they ran today, I'd let them rest tomorrow. It was only after the run was finished I told them that tomorrow is a regularly scheduled rest day anyway. Got my 200 mile bib in the Run the Year challenge.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K
6-1 Freedom 5K
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5k11 -
I think I finally got caught up on this thread.
@quilteryoyo I'm so sorry for the loss of your uncle. Hugs!
@hoshaugh73 What a beautiful place to run!
@ContraryMaryMary Great photo! Looks like a great time was had by all!
@rusgolden Congratulations on the PR!
@7lenny7 What a fantastic race report! Kody sure looked like he was having a great time!6 -
Finally posting Sat. run 15 miles. It was extremely slow. Paved trail, partly clean, partly ice covered, partly uncleared (so 10" of snow). Some areas slick, some low areas with thin ice and water visible underneath. I went extremely slow on those areas. I did see some wildlife - geese, ducks, eagles, deer.

@7lenny7 Great race for both you and Kody! It looks totally miserable!!!
@rusgolden Congrats on the HM PR!
@Tramboman Yay 200 miles! Go team!4 -
Morning all. First of all I want to say again I appreciate how much you all listen (read?) to me rambling. I am a talker to solve problems, and typing it all out helps me a lot. I know, I repeat myself, its just so frustrating to be getting back into the swing of things, and be hit by an annoying niggle like this.
This morning I went out for a 6k run with the intention of seeing how I felt at 6k, maybe enxtending it out to 8.
Body had other ideas. I'd had a crap sleep, hubby is sick with man flu so kept waking up, and tossing and turning which woke me up. so much broken sleep. I also did a lower body strength workout yesterday, first in about 2 weeks, and I am a little sore in my hamstrings and glutes. Lower leg felt ok, still a little achey, not worse but not better. I stretched and warmed up, did my rocker squats - they do definitely make a difference. Started running. It just felt like a slog. At 3.5k, I actually stopped and walked a little, picked it up again but at 4k I just wasn't feeling it. stopped and walked home. I did 5.5k in total with walking but grrr. broke out the roller and gave the calves a good roll, there are definitely tender points on the medial leg.
My plan is to stretch and roll for the next 2 weeks, and stick to shorter distances - nothing over 8k. If it doesn't improve by the 16th, Ill go to town and get new shoes. I still kinda think its because I ramped up too fast, I did no running for 2 weeks, and only shorter distances for the month or so before that because I was getting sore knees. I got new shoes, did a couple of short runs then did that 23km run. The following week I did a few short runs then a 10k and its been sore since then, so that really suggests to much too fast, rather than shoes. Or combination of both.
@PastorVincent hows the groin?10 -
@PastorVincent hows the groin?
I feel way better this morning. Just a little stiff and sore so probably will run later but might be dreadmill due to scheduling issues. Thanks for asking.6 -

Thanks! I just wish I was rich enough to have more stuff to review Maybe next I will review the water I promoted6 -
3/2/19.....2mi run out of 30 mi. I plan to run longer miles for the next few weeks to get my mileage up. I find it helps if I can get a running program to stick to my goal, but I also have trouble staying motivated.7

might be a little irritated that the marathon does not have any information on their aid stations. what fluids? what gels? snacks?3

Today I got to run 1.86 miles - my first run in about two and a half weeks since I threw up my hands and flipped the snow a bird. It's still freaking cold (7 degrees), and windy, and there's a lot of snow still on the ground, but after a couple of sunny days there are patches of *gasp* clear pavement! /swoons
I walked most of the snow-covered patches, but between a few well-shoveled areas and the half-mile along the greenway that the bikes have melted, I probably ran more than I walked. It was great! I'm still very undecided about when I want my next half-marathon to be, but I'm on the board for March!11 -
SOOOoooOoOOOOoooo
Took time form work today to go get my picture taken for my driver's license renewal, and guess who is closed on Mondays? Ugh. Never occurred to me that might be the case so did not check. *sigh* Have to burn another day later to do it now...10 -
3/3: 3.1Km
4/3: 12.2Km
Total to go: 52.7Km9 -
It's cold here today! Knowing the temperature was forecast to plummet into the teens, I planned ahead of time so yesterday was a rest day and today is a lifting day.
Last night was the awards ceremony / afterparty for the Memphis Runner's Track Club Winter Off-Road series. One of the nice things about having the ceremony separately from the races is that I got to see what everyone looks like in non-running clothes! It was held at Crosstown Brewery and the awards were growlers and a certificate for filling them with beer, which I don't drink, but the growler makes a cool trophy.
There was a pizza truck serving the party, but pizza is problematic for my blood glucose on a non-run day, so afterwards we walked down to the Global Cafe in the Crosstown building and had a great dinner of Sudanese beef stew, grilled Syrian vegetables, and Nepalese milk tea. Hard to believe this place was a derelict shell only a few years ago!
This whole "being a healthy person" lifestyle is still a novelty to me. I'm more used to gaming and sf cons where literally everyone in the room is 300 pounds or heavier (in Memphis even the cosplayers are heavy). Being surrounded by fit hipsters feels weird! I was having a serious case of Imposter Syndrome.16 -
@rheddmobile congrats on kicking butt during the series and getting the award! Your meal sounds wonderful. I'd take that over pizza any day.3

We were busy with an Agility Trial Fri-Sun so no running at all. Managed to get in over 15k steps each day though and Hobbes did well, especially on Sunday with 2 perfect runs out of 3 and a 2nd place for one of them. This was one of the larger trials with over 100 dogs entered in many of the events so there was a lot of rushing around, then waiting. A friend who competes and is also a professional photographer took pictures of many of the runs.I am still way behind on all the posts but did read @7lenny7's race report - wow! You guys are awesome! I love Kody and can't believe he is 11! One question - do his paws and ears get cold?
@rheddmobile - that place looks awesome! An imposter you are definitely not!
@rusgolden - Congratulations on the HM PR! It is always nice to have supporters cheering you on - so motivating even when you feel you have nothing left!
@simcon1 - You have nice weather because we are getting all of your rain! You're welcome!
Speaking of rain, it poured all weekend and while today was nice it is supposed to rain tomorrow afternoon all the way through next Monday or Tuesday. Our reservoirs are full to overflowing and that doesn't take into account the snow melt which will be coming. Yards are now flooding pretty much every time it rains, the ground just can't absorb any more and hasn't had a chance to really dry our at all.
This was my first run for March today and may be my only outdoor run for a little while depending on how much rain we actually get. We already have warnings for flooding on Wednesday so I may end up at the gym instead. Today's run I increased my run interval to 3 minutes so I will do 5/3 walk/run for a few more times and then go to 4/4. My legs were tired from the weekend but managed to do all the intervals and actually went a bit further than my previous runs. For now I want to stay under 5 miles during the week and start building a little to long runs on the weekends with HM plan training starting on the 18th.
Date........Miles.......Total
03/01......0.00.......0.00 - Agility Trial
03/02......0.00.......0.00 - Agility Trial
03/03......0.00.......0.00 - Agility Trial
03/04......4.55.......4.55 + Agility Class
My completed and/or upcoming races. Let me know if you will be running them too.

05/11/19 - Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon

@7lenny7- Great race report and great photos! Looks like you had a blast. You and Kody are lucky to have each other!
@Shanaber- Hobbes I just love him!
@rheddmobile - Congrats on the age group award! Well earned!
@rusgolden - Great job on the PR!!!3 -
@rheddmobile congrats on kicking butt during the series and getting the award! Your meal sounds wonderful. I'd take that over pizza any day.
I dunno, while I am forced GF, the pizza sounds better... but would have made a similar choice.
Still, congrats again @rheddmobile ! Well done!3 -
@rheddmobile congrats on your award - that does make a cool trophy!
@shanaber - congrats to Hobbes! Those pictures are so fantastic. Love the middle one especially where he is looking right into the camera. Such a great face!4 -
5 easy miles with a coworker after work today. Pace was easy, but HR was surprisingly high (147 whereas last week it was only 135). Yesterday's workout really amped up the fatigue for today's recovery run! I've got 10 miles and a workout on the schedule for tomorrow, but may opt for easy miles tomorrow and a workout either Wed or Fri morning instead to give myself some extra recovery time.
March miles:
3/1: 10 miles
3/2: Rest day
3/3: 17 miles
3/4: 5 miles
March total: 32 miles
2019 Races
March 16: Four Courts Four Miler (Goal: Fun!)
March 24: Caesar Rodney Half Marathon (Goal: PR)
April 7: Cherry Blossom 10 Miler (Goal: Sub-75)
April 28: New Jersey Marathon (Goal: BQ)
July 6: Finger Lake Fifties 50k (Goal: Finish)
