Do you drink diet soda?

Yes.
Because I like it and it tastes good.1 -
I don't but that's because I don't like carbonated drinks anymore. As a teenager, switching to diet soda from regular had me lose 20 pounds, so I think diet soda is a great option for people who want the taste without the calories.4
-
No, I don't drink soda in general. I don't like the bubbles in it :') And if there is no, then it's too sweet for me.
I drink water, coffee, tea.0 -
I used to as well. A few years ago Pepsi One was all the rage for me. It was sweetened with Sucralose and was only one calorie. I was drinking a couple of cans a day. Eventually I stopped because there is a great deal of controversy regarding artificial sweeteners and I just didn't want to take any chances.
Here is a great article that explains it all. Now I just have a can of regular soda maybe once every 2 weeks to satisfy a craving. I no longer consume soda on a regular or semi regular basis.19 -
Yes. I drink about two 12 packs of Coke Zero per week (I like Vanilla and Orange Vanilla as well). I think switching to diet soda, which I was afraid of before I met some really reasonable people on this board, is one of the main contributing reasons for my weight loss and continuing to keep it off. I think in the long run, if I had to give up soda, it would be unsustainable. Maybe for a few months, I could go without, but I'd probably cave. And drinking non-diet soda is a great way to pack on liquid calories.4

The artificial sweeteners in it is not a nutrient that your body knows how to metabolize - it confuses the body. Besides the fact that there are chemicals in them that are toxic. I've heard medical professionals refer to soda as poison.

Not very often. If I do, it's caffiene free, sugar free, and salt free. I prefer flavored water, Crystal Light has a great variety of flavors. Diet soda makes me want to snack - alot.

For me one reason I don't drink more diet soda than I do is because I find that I will not want water if I drink diet soda with lunch and dinner, for example. It's more that (concern that I won't drink enough water) than any fear about the sweeteners etc. For years before I started using My Fitness Pal, I would only drink coffee with breakfast, a can of diet soda at lunch & dinner...that is it, no water ever. So I wanna avoid that but I find even now, years into my drinking-tons-of-water habits, if I have that can of diet soda with my meal, water sounds meh and I'm not thirsty for it.
Like another poster, I lost an "effortless" 20-25 lb in my early twenties just switching from Dr. Pepper to Diet Pepsi, no other dietary changes.0 -
I don't drink diet soda. I will treat myself to a regular fountain soda, every once and awhile. Water and tea for me, on the regular.1

When your body doesn't know how to metabolize something, it excretes it without using any. In other words, that's not a bug; it's a feature. There are chemicals in everything. It's the dose that makes them toxic/poison.23 -

I don't know why people lump all sweeteners together as some sort of bogeyman but there are many different kinds and your body can break them down just fine.
Here's how it works with aspartame: https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/1308408/why-aspartame-isnt-scary/p115 -
Why or why not?
Aspartame is a known migraine trigger for some people and it seems to make some people hungrier. Since I don't fit into either of those categories and I like the taste of diet dr pepper, I have one most afternoons to curb my cravings at work and get me over the 3pm hump.8 -
I do not. I have a medical condition that is food sensitive and artificial sweeteners are a trigger for me (I have tested this personally and they are a known possible issues for my specific issues).
I drink mostly water, tea (iced and hot), and Bubly sparkling water.3 -
I've never been much of a soda drinker, but having said that when I did drink one is was always diet. I drank diet sodas from high school well into middle-adulthood. At my peak soda drinking phase I went through 1-2 cases a month. About 5 years ago, I switched from diet to regular. No regrets. I don't remember the last time I had one--more than 3 months ago. I made the switch because I drink them so infrequently that I figured the better taste of regular sodas was worth the calories. I drink mostly water, coffee, and alcohol a few nights a week.0

Your body does not have the ability to get "confused". Everything you ingest is processed and excreted. Period. Your liver and kidneys excrete stuff your body doesn't use or that are "toxins". I'd also say that the medical professionals were just giving you their opinion. They are not the most knowledgeable about nutrition, so I would take what they say about it with a grain of salt.16 -
I’ve never liked the taste of diet soda and it upset my stomach. I substituted sparkling water in place soda.0

I like diet soda, but I think it leaves me with dry mouth and I prefer sucralose as a sweetener. I'm often making iced tea or lemonade with sucralose instead, but when I'm out I drink diet all the time.0
-
I love my Diet Coke. I also drink unsweetened tea and water. I don’t like to drink anything sweet which is why I can’t stand regular pop or pop that’s sweetened with Stevia or sucrolose, just too sweet tasting. It’s also my caffeine fix as I don’t drink coffee.0
-
I drink plenty of water but you can pry my Diet Pepsi from my cold, dead hands 🤣 I’ve never had any problems with my weight loss drinking it.3
-
I prefer a good, strong cup of espresso with some sweetener sometimes during the day for my "pick me up".1

Diet sodas taste like sadness.12

I read a summary of a study once that said that even sparkling water increased appetite in some people as well as diet soda. Apparently, it isn't the diet soda, it's the carbonation. This doesn't seem to apply to everyone. Wish I had a link, it was interesting.0

This convo happened in my mind because I have too much time to think and was thinking about this thread.5 -

Not worth the risks to drink it on a regular basis.27 -

Did you even read this article before
I quote straight from the article.
"A study such as this one can only hint at an association between diet soda and cardiovascular risk. It can’t pinpoint a cause and effect."
It also talked about an association with diet soda between larger waists and higher blood glucose levels. Do you think that also might be affect of the diet soda or other unhealthy habits? We all know that people are larger because they consume more calories....16 -
Yes. Mostly coke zero1

I highly recommend y’all give Zevia a try.
All flavors are zero calorie, some have caffeine if you want that. And none have artificial colors.
I discovered it when I was looking for a non calorie grape soda.
The only downside, it’s pretty expensive compared to regular pop. But when on sale, 67 cents per can.0
