My experience as well.0 -
Run/walked 4 something miles today, about 2 miles running, ankle is grumpy with me, icing it. I can amble along at about 11 minute mile pace, anything faster or oddly enough slower hurts.
Beautiful soft warm rain, saw an indigo bunting. There was also a shrew in the middle of the path, I tried to shoo him away so he wouldn’t get flattened by a bicycle and he came after me! They aren’t all that fast and he was easy to avoid but now I’m wondering if there was something wrong with him.4 -
My experience as well.
How do you get it to stay on so well? Mine always starts to peel within 24 hrs.1 -
@Elise4270 and @Tramboman Thanks!0

My experience as well.
That is what my wife did when she used it too.1 -
Today’s run was fueled by lunch pizza, which also meant pizza kept trying to be resurrected, which wasn’t real awesome. But still, I did a similar treadmill run to last weeks struggle fest... only I maintained speed, and actually had longer run intervals.... and somehow it was not a strugglefest. Like, I was tempted to keep going, but I still wanted to bench tonight, and I want to do 8 miles this weekend, outside, when it’s back to “spring” (I think we are on take 7, hopefully we get the shot right this time.) not on the darn treadmill. I really didn’t think PT lady did all that much last week, but it’s actually kind of incredible how much less cranky the ankle is, and how much of an impact that has on my attitude, and the outcome of the run. So, I’m kind of looking forward to tomorrow’s appointment, even if she did threaten me with needles.
4.7 tonight = 21/50
Also, please don’t tell me I am the only one who thinks “Mrs. Vincent” should come join our tribe?8 -
Went out yesterday to do 2 miles, but the heat was too much and decided it was a good idea to stop at 1.35 miles. Going to go out really early for my next run on Saturday.

Working through recovery following my HM on Sunday.. I was planning on running yesterday, but I’ve been flaking on my May “Bike Everywhere” work team because of the HM, so I wanted to get in some biking miles too. Our captain, who is one of my favorite people in our larger organization, had a stroke the evening before the challenge started, so it’s a little more emotional than it otherwise would be to be a part of (he is recovering, but all is still unclear). In any case, I wanted to get those bike trips in and so just got to a recovery run today—easy three miles and it felt great. More biking and easy running tomorrow, then biking only on Saturday, then a super easy untimed 5K Color Run with my kids on Sunday—their request. Then we’ll see about some hills next week.

Still haven't run. And eaten my weight in chocolate.
So long run required tomorrow. HM distance is probably required but have to settle for 10k I think.
I need another outlet for this pent up nervous energy than food. Running used to be enough but my days are a bit dull now im offloading all my projects.11 -

Kristi aka Mrs. PastorVincent does not really do internet forums like this. She does drop in the FB group that is attached to this group occasionally though. Everyone over there loves her of course cause, well, cause she is great.

So, I'm getting a late start on here for the May challenge, and I got a late start for running in May, due to a very busy start of the month! I'm going to do my best to go back and catch up on the thread, but I figured if I kept waiting to post here until I was caught up it might be June already, lol.
Thanks to my job in media and being the Account Director for the Louisville division of one of our clients I ended up getting a free trip to the Kentucky Derby, along with my Louisville media buyer, for 3 nights! I'm not some big horse racing fan or anything, but it's such an iconic event, and every part of the trip was paid for, including airfare, hotel, massage at the spa, and the $8k box we had at the Derby So, my running got off to a late start, unfortunately.
I'm not exactly sure what to make my goal this month. Last month it was 50 and I was 3 miles short. I'd like to increase, but I also didn't get any miles in until the 7th. So, I think I will aim for 55 as a minimum, and hope to build more than that.
I hope everyone has had happy running so far, and that those with injuries are swiftly on their way to being mended!

Mine would peel a little around the edges, but I'd try to ignore it until it got too annoying.
My hairy legs might have helped adhesion as well.3 -
I have a question for those of you who use KT tape. Do you just put it on right before a run and then remove it afterward? Or do you leave it on for a while and is it hard to take off?
i leave it on till it comes off.rheddmobile wrote: »

exfoliate. (this was the key for me)
make sure it's clean of lotions and oils
rubbing alcohol
high quality tape. some tapes stick better than others.

Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Cloudy and cool this morning, with a little drizzle to keep me comfortable. Back was a little tight after yesterday's golf, but loosened up after 2k. Upped the pace from slow to easy with no apparent ill effects. Think I'll try a longer run tomorrow.

Very late to this month's challenge but i have been getting out there. 4 miles today and that's the last run before my half marathon on Sunday, few niggles in my knee but not bad. Can't believe it's come round so fast! The weather has been pretty bad here, on Wednesday it was pouring all day and 8 degrees. If it's like that on Sunday I don't think I'll be running as I am not good with cold. Forecast isn't looking too bad but it is going to be a cold morning so I need to find a few layers i don't mind losing. Any last minute tips for a novice half marathoner welcome. I am not going be fast, I am aiming for 3 hours, but I want to finish.8

Goal is 55 miles this month.
5/1....3.12 miles (Monon trail)
5/3.....3.09 miles (Monon trail)
5/4....13.1 miles (Indianapolis Mini-Marathon (half marathon))
5/9....6.63 miles (Monon trail)......very slow miles at 14 minute miles except for the last 2 which were more up-tempo due to having to go to the bathroom.
Total.....25.94 miles
Goal......55 miles
Still some soreness after running a half marathon. The weather was warm and humid. Finally a cool breeze after running 2 miles. My legs felt heavy--- like logs. I will be focused on running with more consistency and greater distances at a more controlled pace.

2019 Mini-marathon race report.
The Mini-marathon is a huge event in Indy, which signals the start of almost a whole month of festivities that terminates with the Indy 500 at Speedway. It is becoming a larger and larger event. I noted when I was at the Expo a banner with all of the runners, whose names were in teeny-tiny print, and I couldn't find my name, despite being at the end of the alphabet.
There was no line to meet Frank Shorter, which was surprising to me. He won the 1972 Olympics marathon and I believe was close to winning in 1976. I was a kid when these Olympics were being run...but I loved hearing about how much work was involved and how much sacrifice these athletes endure to have their one big moment on the world stage. It was exciting to meet him and he autographed my racing bib.
The day of the race was rainy. I knew that it was going to be raining at the start of the race but thought that I would have an hour of dry weather. Alas, it was not to be. In the past, I would never run in the rain, but this year, I have a different mindset and have decided that the weather was not going to interfere with my running plans.
My goal was to finish under 2:57 which was the time I finished at the Carmel half-marathon in March, which was also run in the rain.
At the start, I was in the middle of a wall of people. My goal at the start was to not get stepped on nor to step on anyone else. I wanted to run each mile under 13 minutes and believed that I could finish strongly at the end, despite the crowd of people participating.
At the first mile, I clocked it at 12 minutes. 12 minutes? I hadn't run that fast in a long time. So I decided to try to keep my pace at 12 minutes or at least under 13 minutes.
It was still very crowded, and the rain was not hard, but steady. I decided not to drink anything until mile 8 because I had trained without eating or drinking water and knew that I really didn't need anything. I had a hearty meal of peanut butter on toast and a yogurt. My mp3 player had plenty of battery life. Shortly after mile 2, the song, "Cry me a river" played.....I had to laugh.
My pace was pretty steady...12:14 miles, 12:30 etc. I was running toward the Indy 500 speedway track, which is 2.5 miles in circumference and the most boring part of the race. After mile 6, there is an area called the Gold Mile, which is dedicated to our fallen veterans. Posted were pictures of there faces and ages.....so young I thought to die....many in their 20's and 30's....men and women....very sobering. I was close to tears. It was still raining...so no one would notice.
The track is flat but graded and my pace was pretty steady as I left Speedway. I was still running 12:14, 12:20 miles until mile 9. My strategy was to sprint every 0.1 mile until 5 long breaths passed and then slow to up tempo. By mile 9, fatigue was setting in and I ran that mile in 14 minutes. I was soaked to the bone, not able to avoid stepping in huge puddles and noted that my clothes added extra weight. After mile 9 was completed, I was determined to pick up the pace. I was still surrounded by a lot of people, who were at this point, walking most of the time. When I saw a window of opening, I sprinted to it. After mile 10, I started accepting the cups of water and one sports gel that was being passed to the runners. I was able to run a little faster but not the 12 minute miles that I had run at the beginning.
I was so excited to see the checked flag which meant only 0.1 mile to run. I finished in 2:47:48, which was nearly 10 minutes faster than the race I ran in Carmel one month ago. It was a much tougher race due to the crowd (more than 17, 000 in the half marathon), and the steady unrelenting rain.19 -
@katharmonic - I definitely know where you are coming from. You have been pushing hard. Be kind to yourself and take the break you deserve. Everyone needs a little break every so often for mind, body and soul. I usually take it easy for about a month after my spring and fall marathons. I have not run at all this week due to being very busy at work and preparing for vacation. Normally I would squeeze it in, but I just don't feel the need. I am going to Napa for vacation next week. I plan to run, but only for the scenery and enjoyment of running in a new place. When I return from vacation, I will ease back into running as well as rekindle my love of (ok, tolerance for) strength training. Training for Chicago marathon will begin at the end of June.
@ereck44 -Congrats on a great race and shattering your goal!7 -

This is a big thing that novice racers get wrong to their peril. After a race, you need a cool down period. If you stop and sit you are likely to pass out. Drink good liquids, eat something when your stomach is ready, walk a while. Stretching like @eleanorhawkins will help prevent DOMS too. The important thing it to focus on coming down for a slow gentle landing after the race, and not crashing hard.5 -
Well done @ereck44!0

Kudos @ereck44 ! Great race!
