I'm rather disappointed in myself that I fell short of the 50 mile goal I had set for myself last month.
So here's to June and making (and MEETING) the same goal.

Also, a secondary goal, I would like to complete at least one run that is 10 miles. Currently my longest run to date is 6.2 miles.

What does your training look like? 10 miles could be in reach, or way out of reach pending where you are. If you can just bearly finish the 6.2 even with several rest days before it, then 10 miles is probably not doable this month. If you can finish the 6.2 as part of a training pattern, without rest days preceding it, then you could probably do 10 this month.

The important thing is not to push too far, too fast too soon. Take your time to build a base and you will be much happier down the road.

To be honest I've only been really running for about a year. And I have no idea what I'm doing, the logistics of it, about conditioning. I just put shoes on, step outside and run.
So you think maybe I should aim for less?
I usually only have time to run 2-4 miles. I work 12 hour shifts with a one hour drive back and forth. So I'm only home for 8 hours and still need to sleep sometime in between there, plus I'm a student. On days I don't work I can do 5 or 6, because there's no time crunch.

So, I suggest you look at a 10miler or 15k training plan. One like this:

    https://www.halhigdon.com/training-programs/15k-10-mile-training/novice-15k-10-mile/
(it is free, just scroll past the ads. All of the information is on that page and free. The actual plan it at the very bottom, but the notes above it are important too)

That one is for 10 weeks, but you might be able to start a few weeks into it.

Again, the MOST IMPORTANT THING is not to go too hard or too fast. All inexperienced runners do it. That is how you get hurt and burned out. It is better to take 2 months to get to 10 miles and get there healthy than to pound hard and get there in a few weeks but hating running and hurt the day after.

    Thank you so much!!

No run yet, lifting today. Was supposed to be lifting yesterday, rest today, but my ankle was touchy after racing so I took my rest day yesterday. Ankle is much better today, still not perfect, so concentrating on lifts which don’t bother it such as Romanian deadlifts.

@Elise4270 I like a big navel orange before running. Oranges are normally too many quick carbs for me to have a whole one, so running lets me enjoy them. In the summer frozen orange slices are heaven! During long runs, I’m a fan of ginger flavored Clif Bloks. Afterwards I like to pig out on all the carbs - which is still not that many, maybe half a serving of pasta, a half serving of fries, or a slice of pizza - but without running I can’t eat these things at all without a glucose spike. My favorite thing is sweet potato fries dipped in bbq sauce.

I don’t run and cook. If I run, I want to sit down and have someone else serve me food.

going for 40. and to make it a habit. maybe i'll put the runs on my calendar like an appointment

I do this. It keeps me accountable. There's something about it being written out on the calendar that makes is seem like I have no option but to do it!

I haven't posted here in awhile...perhaps a year. I just finished what was perhaps the worst year of my professional career and I now have the summer to recuperate. I run half marathons regularly but just completed my first marathon this past November. Unfortunately I suffered from a pretty bad IT band injury during the tail end of my training (just prior to taper week) that became progressively worse on race day, so much so that the hurt leg was like running on a stiff, straight leg (the pain ran from my knee up to my hip and was some of the worst I've felt in my life). My other leg, breathing, and mental composure were completely fine, which made for a very frustrating experience. My body on the one side just would not cooperate. I eventually fully recovered and am now looking to try again this fall. I'm sharing this experience because if anyone has any advice on how to avoid this from reoccurring, I am open to hearing your stories and words of wisdom!

Visit a hip specialist maybe get an MRI to rule out physical abnormalities/causes. I've recently had femoral anteversion (right) corrected, before that IT band lengthening and GT bursectomy (right) and sciatic nerve decompression (left). I still need the right labrum repaired & rehaping. Unfortunately it does happen that sometimes we need a medical option. I've just gotten to where if it's something I can't solve, I find a professional.

It sounds, to me, that this injury isn't just a case of overtraining. I'd definitely rule out the possiblity and a good Ortho can probably point you in the right direction even if its something that PT can address, especially if you find one thats a runner or cyclists, they are super helpful. Some are just dumb dums and say "don't exercise". That's not a fix in my book.

Good luck! Glad to see you back!

We have our first open home today. Had 3 groups through. One sounds primi3, another wants the house but has to sell hers first and the other we don't know much about. So will see. The agent sounded confident (don't they always).

It is interesting hearing about you selling. Here in the USA it is a different process. At least in all the areas where I have bought/sold homes. For the most part, the homeowner has little to nothing to do other than keep the house clean. For "open homes" (we call them open houses here) the owners are gone the entire time. They do not normally meet prospective buyers. The agents do pretty much everything.

@Lazy_Bones_85 Great race results! Good luck with going back to work tomorrow.

@ContraryMaryMary Too bad about the route change and NO marshall to make sure everyone went the correct way. That is so frustrating. I agree, you should count that as a PB. It would be nice if the race organizers would put a disclaimer on their website, explaining the confusion and results. Did the racers who cut it short get to count it as finishing? If so, I'm sure a lot of them will have a PB online.

@Avidkeo Hope one of the families comes through. Selling/buying a home is very stressful.

@Lazy_Bones_85 great race! You can be proud of yourself for giving it everything you had.

@ContraryMaryMary awesome 10K time! Heck yeah you count that as a PB! You ran the distance. Sucks the race was so poorly organized, but that shouldn't penalize you.

@eleanorhawkins well done on your race as well. Too bad about all the kids and walkers blocking your way. Seems there's always those in every race.

Oh we weren't here, we cleaned and then were kicked out of the house for an hr. This was just the report from the agent lol though we met the one who has to sell first because she arrived 15 mins early and we hadn't left yet haha

Today is my birthday. I usually don't work on my birthday, but I had to juggle days......

    Happy Birthday!

And, while I have not personally gone through it, a good I have been told that a counseling program can work wonders. As a pastor, I refer my people to them when it goes beyond what I can do.
