Thanks! I joined the team!1 -
I ran 2.3 miles this morning for Global Running Day. I shouldn't have. My knee hurts now.9

Global running day today!! I did an 8k run this morning in billowing wind that pushed me sideways a couple of times! Entertaining it was!
So are you guys doing anything to represent global running day?
PS I did not know this was a thing till everyone was going on about it but was kinda fun!
me too! just joined and pledged3 -

oooo... if I get to run today, I will join!1 -
@Teresa502 I don't know how @MobyCarp does his bananas, but I peel bananas and freeze them. If they are big I break them in half before freezing. Then take them out and allow just enough time for them to be soft enough to bite. They are so good that way and I never have to throw away bananas that have gone bad anymore.
I also have several stored bananas in my freezer, but I mostly use them for baking. Anytime one turns the corner to overripe, I pop it in the freezer still in the peel. Then I have wonderfully sweet ripe bananas for baked goods instead of the super green ones you always see in the store.0 -

I just added a half mile to my lunch run that I could pledge to MFP - since I had already pledged my 3 to my local running group1 -

Well I joined and pledged the 8k I did yesterday. Have to try remember in advance next year!
It's absolutely appalling weather today. Its torrential rain and windy beyond belief. We had tornadoes about an hr away from where I live yesterday (rare in NZ).
It's a running rest day so I slept in, but I need to do a 3k walk today for my June streak... Not sure how I'm going to get it in. Our gym doesn't have a treadmill anymore but it does have a elliptical trainer... Or I might just go out after work. Will see what happens.4 -
Thanks for the banana info @kgirlhart and @martaindale. I’ve mashed them for use later in baking but never frozen them in solid form. I usually only buy one or two at a time because I can’t stand for them to be overly ripe!
@shanaber – I made a pledge too. Thanks for setting that up!

@hist_doc - I like strength training when I have it with my trainer. Probably wouldn't do it so much on my own either. That said I have been trying to add in glute strengthening exercises into my everyday routine after I run or whenever. I put on some music and spend 20mins just getting it all done.
I didn't figure out how to track what has been run in our group on the Global Running org site but there are certificates and even bibs you can download and print if you want. I am assuming you all can see them too. If not, let me know and I will download and make them available to anyone who wants one.
I went out for my short mile or two run today with my new Topo shoes and felt so great I ended up running close to what I ran the last couple of days. Note that is 3 runs in 3 days for me! Tomorrow will be a rest day but I am so enthused that I am feeling, well not quite 100% but SO much better. I think these new Fli-Lyte 3's are going to be my new favorite shoes. They are pretty much perfect and the color makes me smile!

3.5 miles in the books today. It was 80°F, sunny, 49% humidity, slight breeze. I know it's not technically summer yet and it's only going to get worse, but I'm already sick of summer
@PastorVincent yeah yeah, I still need to get through this evening's zumba class too!

@shanaber Thanks for setting up the MFP team for Global Running Day. I joined and pledged, after I ran. Is that cheating?

Ran on the treadmill today. I tried to go faster, and thought I had, but only minimally. I ran/walked 6/1 minutes today, as opposed to my usual 4/1, and went at 5.0 mph/3.5 mph pace. So I was a little surprised that I was only 53 seconds faster than my Monday run outdoors. Guess I was running faster outside than I thought.6 -

I think it's fine mainly because I did the same thing lol.2 -
I finally sat down and did the rest of my plan for the month. With a vacation week mixed in, it's looking closer to 60 miles.
Got my run done on the treadmill again. Rain all day. It's so hard for me to keep moving on the treadmill. I've gotten used to running outside. Having a hard time making that transition.

I don't think it matters at all - you got out and moved and that is what it is all about anyway!

Tonight was the opening night for the summer marathon/half marathon training group. As it was pouring rain when I left my house I was not looking forward to it, but the minute by minute forecast was suggesting it was going to stop. And incredibly it did! By the time I got out of the car at the track it was only a light mist. Of course it was then super humid, but at least not an active thunderstorm.
We typically have had just a base run to "get to know each other" on the first night so I was expecting that, but instead it was an "easy" ladder workout. 1-2-3-3-2-1 minute intervals hard with 90-second recovery in between. Which is easier than the typical ladder for this group for sure, but not the nice little jog I was envisioning.
I was glad to be back on the softer track and it was good to see some of the team I haven't run with in a while. I don't know if I'm mentally ready for the harder workouts again, but after this past weekend's race I know I definitely need them if I want to do better in longer races.
I pledged 3 miles for the MFP group for global running day before I knew what the workout would be, so I ended up exceeding that.
Oh, edited to add - I got a decent smiling race photo!13 -

In Japan on vacation. Yesterday I went for a walk/hike/wog through the hills outside Takayama, an interesting town in mid-Japan. Took an established path that wound through temples and graveyards, eventually ending up in some castle ruins on top of a small mountain.
Reviews from tripadvisor said it would take half a day, three or four hours at least. I finished the whole route in all of 90 minutes, and that included getting lost, taking pictures, and stopping for ice coffee and a conversation with two tiny little grandmas at a convenience store.
Must say I am increasingly disgusted with the average fitness levels of people. [/rant]
Pics for anyone interested.
Then a quickish 5km this morning around Nagoya castle, for the simple reason that there are no traffic lights along the moat. But the view wasn't bad.
31 degrees and grilling sunshine. Need to get up earlier..

The last two months, I've been able to get 110 miles, so I'd like to set my first goal to 110 miles and my stretch goal at 120 miles. Marathon training is in full swing; I gotta get on the ball.

Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2019 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Run at least 4 5k races.
Get under 30:00 and a PR for 5k.
Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Scheduled rest day today.
2019 Races:
4-13 Shine the Light 5K - 31:12 chip time; First Place male 65 and older
6-30 Strides for Starfish 5K5 -
6/1 - 8.0 miles
6/2 – 2.0 miles + lower body PIYO
6/3 – 5.0 miles + yoga
6/4 – 1.2 miles TM + upper body PIYO
6/5 – 5.0 miles + yoga
6/6 – 1.1 miles TM + PIYO Sweat (20 minutes)
The PIYO workout I attempted this morning used many of the same muscles as those used in power yoga yesterday morning and I just wasn’t feeling it. I did 20 minutes of the 35 minute routine before I called it quits. Rain is in the forecast for this evening so I got my minimum mile in on the treadmill for the running streak.

@noblsheep - what a beautiful place to hike even if it was too short. I would love to have that view when I go for a run! Enjoy your vacation there!2

June goal: 90 miles
6/2: 8.51 miles
6/4: 5.52 miles
6/5: 5.26 miles
6/6: 5.51 miles
24.8/90 miles completed
Today's run was a lovely 5.51 mile run. It was so nice today. It was only 64F. It was humid, but not as bad as it has been and the cooler temperature made it much more comfortable. We got rain overnight, so there was lots of water on the roads and a few overturned trash carts, but it was already light when I ran and it was just a pretty morning. I felt really good too, like I could just run forever. I love it when I have a run like that.
2019 races:
2/2/19: Catch the Groundhog Half Marathon - PR 2:15:17
5/18/19: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon - Cancelled due to weather8
