@noblsheep I'm jealous of your vacation. Partly because it looks so beautiful, and party because my son is living in Japan and I really want to go visit him.8

@Shanaber @Elise4270 Thank you for the well wishes for my kitty!
Took my kitty in for a teeth cleaning yesterday and decided to play golf with the other half to pass the time- the vet is about 30 minutes away in traffic and the golf course is just 2 miles down the road. So I dropped her off at 8:30 and then played 18. I'm not a good golfer- I only play maybe 5-10 times a year, but it was a good day despite shooting 116. It was humid but cloudy so it never got oppressively hot. Finished up and then went to lunch as my kitty was still in recovery. Picked her up at 4:00 and came home, got her settled- she was still quite "drunk" acting and her back legs didn't want to go where her front legs were going. Since my other half was home, I decided it was OK to head out for a 3.5M run. Wednesdays are usually rest days, but I took Sunday as a rest day since I raced on Saturday and felt good enough to run but I kept it short since I'll run M-F this week and 5 days in a row usually takes it toll on me.
Today is supposed to be a pace run but I don't really see me being able to get my speed up today since I'm a little sore from golf yesterday and I want to be able to complete a 85 minute long run tomorrow so I'm just going to get in 4.5 miles at a moderate pace instead of really pushing myself.
Hope everyone is having a great week!12 -
6.25 miles this morning. Felt easier today, despite being :30/mi faster. HR was virtually the same as Monday. Maybe the extra rest day helped.

Summer has definitely arrived here. I spent at least 5 minutes this morning trying to scrub the grubby line off the middle of my thighs before it dawned on me that oh, I'm getting a tan line from my running shorts. D'oh.
In other running related news, I got overexcited and went 11km on my long run on Tuesday instead of the 10km I was planning, and instead of taking the river trail I made up a route along the seafront promenade and then back round the back of town so it was all pavement and included some hills towards the end. Knees felt really heavy afterwards and yesterday, and although they loosened up nicely after a couple of gentle miles this morning they started out as stiff as hell. Luckily I was due to see the evil twin physio this morning anyway for a massage. She got a kind of twinkle in her eye when I mentioned the knee/heaviness thing and oh boy did she go to town on them. One leg was the bottom of my quad (usual suspect) but the other she spent about 20 minutes really digging into the outside of my knee area and has left it very red and swollen (but admittedly feeling better than it did).
I'm praying this is just my legs getting used to it again as I increase the mileage. I'm praying that 5 miles isn't really as far as my legs will ever let me run without kicking up a fuss. I guess only time will tell.
Anyway, no more long runs until my 10km race on the evening of Saturday 15th, will make myself stick to 3 miles at a time max.
After that I'll see how the legs are feeling and either go back to the 15km plan I was doing or stick to my current mileage for a while before I start the HM plan in August.
June goal: 75km. Run so far: 19.46km9 -
01/06 3.13 miles

@Avidkeo - My steak went down the swanny, Monday and Tuesday and even still we had a storm with lots of heavy rain and wind so didn't get out. Yesterday my husband took me for an unexpected dinner and & cos I'd messed up my streak I had no motivation to get a mile in afterwards. But reading ur post this morning I thought hell or high water I'm getting out there this evening, so what if I missed a few day, there's plenty more left in the month!

Went down the swanny?? Lol love it.
Good on you for keeping motivation, just gotta get back to it! Yesterday I split my 3k into two walks, a 1.7k walk at around 3pm,then straight after dinner, while there was still a bit of light I went and did 1.3.
@eleanorhawkins yay on the run! 11 miles is amazing! Sux about the knee, hopefully it's just temporary. How are the shoes? Not sue a new pair are you? I've done 500k in mine. They are still holding up ok but I know I'll need another pair in the next month or so. Waiting on them to wing over from the states!
Over night the wind was awful. It woke me up a couple of times sounding like it was going to lift the house up! At 520 when my alarm I was tempted to stay in bed but I wanted to come here and tell you all a how bad *kitten* I am going out, doing 5k while dodging mini tornadoes. Not to be. I hit a calm in the storm. It rained about 1 minute at the beginning ofy run, then stopped. Slight breeze from time to time, until I got home when it kicked off with heavy rain and wind again.
So I'm kinda bad *kitten* for getting out I guess bahaha.
And I had an amusing thought on my run that @PastorVincent could help with. I want a "get up and embrace the suck" alarm. Fancy doing some voice recording bahaha. Hmmm that does mean waking up to your voice every morning though...4 -

@Avidkeo ha! kilometres, not miles. Shoes, I have wondered about shoes but it shouldn't be... I have 2 pairs I rotate, they've both been in use since September so quite a few months but I've only run around 750km so less than 400km on each pair. I was intending to get new ones in the July sales, but guess it might be time to start looking for a new pair and seeing if that makes a difference.0 -

Seems very reasonable. Which race?
It's the Mountain Madness 50k, but I am NOT looking at the 50k distance! Lol. There's 25k and 7 mile options as well and I'm looking at the 7 mile one - I'm trying to do more trail running but I've only ever done 2 trail races - a 4 miler and a 5k.

So, I just had a "well DUH" facepalm moment, lol. All day I've been thinking that I'll be doing my run today. I was annoyed b/c I couldn't do it on my lunch break since I had an appt to get to, and it's a high of 86°F & sunny today, blech. It finally only just dawned on me that my company has a half day tomorrow, tomorrow was going to be a rest day, it will only be a high of 80° & cloudy, and I can get my run done in the early afternoon instead of starting it after 6pm.
#winning
Now I'm really excited to get home from work tonight and straight into pj's! I do think I'm going to walk a lap or two around my building right now though, just to get a little movement in.6 -

Oops, well even 11km is AWESOME!!! and the shoes might be a red herring. I just automatically jump to shoes because for me, sore knees is my queue for a new pair. My current pair are holding up really well atm! last one only lasted 500k before I HAD to get a new pair.2 -

Sounds like a great group of people based on what you posted so far. By September you can easily be ready for a 7-mile race if you are already reaching in the 4-mile range. I mean you could probably reach the 25km distance by September if you decided you really wanted to.1 -

You will just have to see how it goes, listen to your body and all that but I would encourage you to keep at it. It will take time to rebuild milage. Little by little, easy does it and all that.2 -

Oh yeah, I'm not too worried about the distance in general. But, it will be in the midst of my marathon training for Marine Corps Marathon at the end of October and I don't want to do anything too technical or risky since I keep injuring myself during marathon training, lol.
Although.....if this race is around the same time this year as it was last year I might actually consider the 25k distance, since according to my marathon plan I'll have an 18 mile long run on 9/22 and 14 miles on 9/29. Hmmm......things to ponder!
I do need to do some research on good trails near me to use for regular training runs. Fun stuff!3 -

Trails are soooooo much nicer to run on. I wish I had some closer to me.1 -
@mbaker566 well done on your fastest mile! You and the dog both look pretty satisfied with it!
@noblsheep that looks beautiful. Have a great vacation.
@Lazy_Bones_85 glad your kitty made it through the dental cleaning. Hope she recovered well.
@KatieJane83 those trail race FAQs are so funny - I'm imagining they all end in "in addition, you will be banned from all future NJ Trail Series races". I agree with you that the distance of the 25k at that time in marathon training would be good - but I'd be with you in worrying about how technical it would be and risking injury. Tripping over roots, etc. is my big fear. Sounds like fun though.
@avidkeo - "I just automatically jump to shoes because for me, sore knees is my queue for a new pair." Smacking my head a little here - I think I need new shoes too.

I'm not advocating for or against leaving a kiddo... But something like this if you were to say run laps close to home might be "not really left alone"
Just in case i messed up the hyperlink
Eh I'll have to come back from the iPad and embed that long *kitten* link. -ETA ✅4 -
@katharmonic Thank you. She got lots of extra snuggles and she's eating me out of house and home which the vet tech said is normal after anesthesia. I hope you enjoyed your beer!
@ContraryMaryMary I hope your child feels better soon!
I went out much later this afternoon than planned for my run which turned into a medium effort run instead of the pace run it was scheduled to be. Spent all day snuggling with my cat since she had her surgery yesterday and I didn't have anything else to do. I really wish I could be a stay-at-home cat Mom full time.6 -

LOL that's annoying and yeah I know you wouldn't do it.0 -
5k running in a nice gentle rain. All alone at the park, Memphis people are not hardcore enough to run in the rain. I guess this was one of those days that other people are always talking about when they say they like running in the rain. Perfectly pleasant temperature, millions of frogs and bugs, everything smelled nice.
Went for shawarma afterwards. My Syrian friend gave me Eid cookies! They are mostly pistachios and only 7g carbs apiece, yay!8 -

Oh sure, until you’re a teenager and it becomes, “where do you think you’re going?” Haha!
5 is young, but I only half suggested it because different areas/cultures may have different rules. And maybe it’s okay in @ContraryMaryMary ‘s world. In our parts I think 10 is the norm, but that isn’t that all 10 yo’s can be left alone. My oldest boy was a heathen. I couldn’t leave him alone at 13... 14. Then he got mad that he was punished for joyriding with older boys when they decided to shoot people with a BB gun. I came down too hard, daddy saved him.2 -
Found a solution. I took the poorly child with me to Pilates, where she sat quietly playing on the iPad while I did my thing. At the end of class I made a comment about wanting to run and my friend (helpfully also a runner) said, drop her round to mine while you run. Fab.
However, the minute after I texted telling her I’d be at hers in 15, there was a huge clap of thunder and a mini tornado came roaring through complete with gale force winds, torrential rain and hail.
Fortunately, being a tornado, it was all over pretty quickly and by the time I dropped the munchkin off and started running the weather was quite pleasant and soon the sun was out and it was still and tranquil. Amazing.
There were a few puddles and a bit of debris to dodge - nothing major - but being rubbish day a fair few bins had blown over spilling their contents. Otherwise no sign of the wild weather.
Home dry and refreshed, and now the wind is back and there are threatening clouds lurking. Seems my timing was perfect.10 -
Right, lets get back to it!
Thanks to work and life I kind of stopped my usual gym/running routine during April/May (and consequently stopped following these forum posts), which in a way helped because I really did NOT have the energy to carry on as usual but at the same time I reallllly noticed the affect on my mental health.
So my aim this month is to just get back in to my routine and back in to running. No distance goals, just get back to where I was in mid-April when it all went wonky.
Hope everyone is ok/uninjured/recovered/still enjoying running!

Madness. Not that bad here... yet.
The NZ law states you can leave a child for “a reasonable amount of time”. All very vague. Me, I will leave her to drop the other at school (about 10 minutes total), but with the TV or iPad which pretty much guarantees she won’t move. Her older sister (7) I left alone while I went for a 20 minute run a few weeks back but she’s so good there’s nothing to worry about. She spent the whole time doing homework (the nerd).7 -

Yeah, it all depends on the kid really. Some kids are fine for hours, others you fear to turn your back on to grab something from the counter.0 -

Not where I grew up. I literally rode my bike for miles, taking over an hour each way to a friend's house before I was old enough to drive. At 10 I was babysitting my newly born sister. *shrugs* different times I guess.
