We’ve had storms and rain roll through the past couple of days but the reward today was worth it. At 5 this morning the temperature was 55F (13C) with a dew point of 55F and it was awesome! The humidity was still high (97%) but with the temp so low it wasn’t nearly as oppressive as it has been the past few weeks.
Good luck this weekend @ContraryMaryMary and @Tramboman!
Congratulations @Avidkeo!

What a beautiful day for a run! The dew point was 57°! The temp was 63°F, feels like 63°F. Humidity was 81% but it didn't feel bad at all. I ran 6.25 miles which gets me almost to my goal for July. I should hit my goal tomorrow. I saw several people at the park this morning. Tomorrow should be another nice day. I am going to enjoy it while I can, because I know it will be hot again before fall gets here. I just really love having time in the morning to run 6 miles before work.
@Avidkeo Congratulations on the new house!

Our weather report was almost the same except you're a few degrees warmer than me - still glorious for this time of year!4 -
@Avidkeo Congratulations on the house!
I’m on “vacation” house and dog sitting for a friend. She’s an elderly dog lover whose elderly dogs passed away a few years ago, and rather than adopt a new dog which might outlive her, she has taken in senior dogs which have been rejected by other adopters because of their age and other issues. The two dogs are sweeties. Anna was a puppy mill momma before being rescued by animal control and has crippled feet because of years of living in a tiny crate - she can barely hobble, but likes to be ridden around in a stroller. Mister Checkers outlived his first owner, was adopted, rejected and sent back because he has incontinence issues. He’s a cheerful little old deaf guy.
Dog pictures for those who like dogs!
The two dogs aren’t much trouble and in return for caring for them we get to live in a house with a hot tub, fancy media center, yoga room and POOL! It’s been too chilly to swim at night but I’ve been lapping my little heart out in the afternoons when it warms up.
The upside of the chilly weather is it was really nice running weather this morning. We took advantage of our location to head to a new spot - at the Córdova end of the Greenline. Ran 10k for the first time since Achilles’ tendon injury. I did have to take a walk break in the middle and stretch my calf because it was tightening up and threatening to get sore. I think I taped it too tight because when I redid the tape it stopped bothering me. Still managed an 11 minute overall pace more or less, disappointed I couldn’t do it all in one go but it will get better.
I do have a complaint about Memphis, or rather Memphians. I remember when the Greenline went in and the city officials were bragging about how it would be possible to jump on the Greenline with a bike or on foot and go across the city, making the city more “walkable” and exercise friendly. Well - that sounds great in theory, but in practice Memphis ain’t friendly. We drove to the Cordova junction of the Greenline and lo and behold there’s zero dedicated parking, and the businesses all around have signs saying if you park there to use the Greenline they will tow you! We ended up parking at the Starbucks two blocks away and walking over. I figured if Starbucks of all places had us towed for trying to be healthy and green, we could probably post a complaint on social media, go viral, and get an apology from the CEO! While walking over, we discover that there are no sidewalks for the block nearest the trail entrance, on a seven lane road with high speed traffic. We could walk on the grass on the shoulder, but it would pretty much be instant death if you tried to cycle there. So basically, the lack of being able to park anywhere near it means the Greenline is pretty much useless as a way to actually get from point A to point B. Does anyone think these things through?

i found a generator on the santa clarita runners website
eta: and i started crying because moby isn't here to help me decide like he always did when i started upping my mileage

So yay me! Looks like I am going to have A LOT more free time soon. Like 50-60 hours a week will be freed up! Yay! Of course, that is because we were all told today that my workplace was folding and we no longer have jobs, but you know, that just means no money for food and stuff.22

Dang @PastorVincent that is aweful! I am so sorry 😵 Take some time for yourself, then get out there and dazzle some new company that will be blessed to have you!2

This! That sucks, but it may just mean there is something better with your name on it that some power that is has lined up.

So I think you all have stolen my nice weather in So CA and sent me your heat, humidity and thunder storms 😡Please send the nice weather back!
@avidkeo - congratulations!!! When does it close?
@rheddmobile - enjoy your vacation! That is crazy about the Greenline. Maybe you can write a city manager and ask them what the plan is for making it more accessible.
@mbaker566 - I know exactly how you feel! I keep looking for his posts and comments! 😢
@jakesmomma2004 - welcome to our group of crazies! Feel free to jump into the discussions and/or ask questions.
Oh @PastorVincent - that is terrible! Definitely start tagging your professional contacts while enjoying more running time for a bit!
I actually got up super early so I could get my run in today before it got hot and before I had to be places (taking neighbor friend to her doctor appointment). It was already mid-70's when I headed out around 7:30 and 85 when I got home. Tried to keep it slow and my HR down and stopped at every drinking fountain even if the water was warm. Fortunately I left Hobbes the Vizsla at home or the run would have been cut way short as it was just way too hot for him. I was completely soaked and literally dripping everywhere (shorts, shirt, hat) and squishing in my shoes so I took off my shoes and socks and jumped in the pool. Spent some time floating around and leisurely swimming laps. Then I went in and burned at least another 100 calories fighting to get my sports bra off 🤣Date........Miles.......Total

I need to get up earlier to run (yes I know I've been saying this for a month). It was hot, nuff said.
@Avidkeo Congrats on the house!!!!
@PastorVincent So sorry to hear that. But time off and new beginnings aren't the worst things in the world, good luck.7 -
finally managing to do some catch up reading.
Great news @Avidkeo on the house, big commiserations @PastorVincent on the job front. That's no good.
So I've mostly been walking/hiking and SUP-ping rather than running. Did a long hike on the weekend with some friends as we looked for a spot to Wild camp. The weather was misty and very windy, but our camp spot was ace (although doesn't feel so 'wild' when three other groups come and camp fairly near). The Sunday we dropped off the ridge to get out of the wind, and got horribly lost, scratches from brambles, stings from nettles and climbing over barbed wire fences as I couldn't get one member to quite understand that paths are marked for a reason, and when you go off-piste you may find you can't get out the other side....
Three things are affecting my running lately. My housemate is looking to buy a house, meaning I need to move out and find somewhere else, meaning I am having a MASSIVE clear of all my possessions. I'm working on the principle of 'what would I save in the event of a fire' and working out where to sell stuff and what stuff to give away.
Second issue is that my ankle is twingy. So it aches on the inner ankle where it joins the shin, BUT, more alarmingly, just at the front of the heel in the inner arch is tight....is this the dreaded PF? It doesn't actually hurt when running or walking, just during the day and is worse in the mornings.
Thirdly - it's got proper hot here in the UK. I know, 82 F isn't much to you guys over in Hotsville, but it's a big thing for us. I mean, we're DYING of heat over here. I had two choices this morning - do a short run early, or come into work early so my brain can function while it is still cool. I came into work and what have I been doing? yup, here on MFP.
Oh well. Happy running people, and happy recovery to those of you not yet running!!!

Since we were gifted with a 'cool' 68F morning at the end of July, I decided to try a 5K PR run this morning. Did a 2 mile warm up, then broke into a 5K, then slowed for a 2 mile cool down. I actually did achieve a PR (21:29 - 6:53/mi). So that is 3 PR's this year (1 mile, 5K, Marathon). Hoping to get some more as the weather cools. Oh, and I met my July goal today. Good day so far

@Scott6255 WTG on the PR for the 5K. This Fall weather in July is fantastic!!
I'm leaving today for a week's long trip - 2 days of driving to IN, cousin's wedding, sight seeing, visiting with family, 2 days of driving home. Probably won't get any running in, but am hoping for a couple of good walks. I'll try to check in, but may mostly "stalk" since I have a hard time commenting much when using my phone. Good luck to everyone who has a race this weekend!!!4 -

we went for an evening run. it was 2 miles on the dot.
speed demon set the starting pace. cuddler slowed it down and kept it steady. Joy, the foster, isn't much of a runner but she was game to run with the pack. it was hot and muggy still. we had to slow down in the last half mile for Joy. the first quarter mile was a little scary with all three pulling me ahead. i wasn't sure if my feet would keep up. about a mile in, i realized that i was starving and it was a fasted run. very grateful it was a short run. no scenery photos. just a residential run. the dogs then had a pool party

Strength training kicked my butt, literally. I was surprisingly sore yesterday but the run went well. I took the younger, faster dog first and went not quite 2.5 miles with her. Then I took the older dog who usually spends most of the run by my side, except when he needs to stop and sniff. Yesterday, someone switched dogs on me.
This morning was nice and cool when I took them both out for a decently paced walk. We stopped a few times but otherwise they were raring to go.
Good luck to any and all racing this weekend.8 -
@avidkeo - congratulations on your house!
@PastorVincent - I'm so sorry to hear about your job. Sending all the good vibes for a great opportunity to come along soon.

Last night: speedwork with the HM/marathon group, so I did the same 60-90-30 second intervals as I did on Monday, but 5 sets instead of 3.
This morning: long run done today because I have a busy weekend with two weddings on Saturday. One of those is for two runner friends. I thought they were going to make everyone run beforehand but the groom is injured unfortunately so no organized running involved. I plan to do a virtual 5k in the morning though for the Race to Cure Sarcoma. July is Sarcoma Awareness month and my younger sister died 5 years ago from sarcoma so I do this and fundraise a little in her honor and memory.
It's going to be kind of a crazy day of run, change, wedding, change, second wedding, reception, sleep - but should be a lot of fun.12 -
@girlinahat - I love the places you camp! Such beautiful scenery although climbing through brambles, nettles and one barbed wire doesn't sound so fun. Well, actually it is kind of cool to get off the path. I hope that part wasn't while carrying all your gear though!
The tightness in your foot does sound a bit like PF. I found that rolling my foot on a small ball works great. I like ones like these. You can also freeze a small water bottle and roll your foot on that. It is nice when it is hot and helps with the inflammation.
@Scott6255 - Way to go with the 5k PR!! Fantastic.
@mbaker566 - love all your pups and their personalities!
@quilteryoyo - have a great trip!
@katharmonic - I'm sorry about your sister, she must have been very young. It is wonderful that you are able to honor her memory with that run!
Also wow! 2 weddings in one day! That could be a lot of dancing!
Strength training day for me today so no run but it is so overcast and all I could think was that it was a missed opportunity to run in the cool cloudy morning. Yup, until I walked outside and realized yes it is cloudy, but cool, nope, already 80 at 7:30 in the morning! Very unusual weather for us for July!6
