Hey all.
@PastorVincent it's all hitting you at once eh!
I was on call last night, first time ever. Got called once so didn't get up this morning to work out. Still struggling to fit exercise in, also struggling with motivation. I started last week with a roar and ended with a groan.
This morning when I was measuring out my breakfast my 5yr old daughter asked me to measure hers to. It broke my heart. I don't want her to become obsessed with food like I am. I know she's just emulating mummy, and that's fine. I explained that's she doesn't need to track her food.
So I'm going to stop tracking. Or stop being obvious about it? I've been tracking on and off for a couple of years now, not religiously but enough. I'm going to go back to how I lost the weight to begin with - moderation.
Kids, they know how to pierce your heart.
@Avidkeo I agree with the others. Don’t stop what you are doing. Kids just emulate, it has probably no more meaning than wanting to help unload the dishes, and she could be over it tomorrow. Also what’s the harm in letting her measure out her own cereal or food? It could turn in to a math lesson, she could start weighing your food, she could grow up to be a pivotal person in the “diet”, medical, health world. I think at the very least you’ll be equipping her with good habits. What about looking to her teen years? Girls get very concerned about weight management and turn to extreme choices. You’d be preemptively heading off that problem, make a day where we don’t weigh food to balance the potential obsession of you think it’s there. My daughter is 24, overweight and started gaining about 7, after a divorce (not saying you’ll divorce-just there will be outside influences in her life). Equip her with knowledge her peers won’t necessarily have. You have a powerful moment before you.6 -

Avidkeo,
I see this as only positive.
I think measuring food is a skill all kids should learn!
We live in a world that now has such abundance of food product that we have a world wide obesity problem.
So many people have no idea what a serving of 100 calories looks like in any food.
To learn the real size of a suggested serving is valuable knowledge!
Can I suggest you simply ponder how you want to teach this new learning moment and make it a strength in her life!
@Avidkeo I also have to agree with this. While I get what you mean about not wanting her to become obsessed with food, I would also think about what you have had to learn and change to take control of your weight/diet/whatever issues. With hindsight, I wish I had known about portions, calories and nutrition in general when I started piling on the pounds while informing everyone that I obviously had a crap metabolism because I 'hardly ate'. Yeah, maybe I didn't eat all that much in volume but oh boy did I stuff my face with calories unknowingly!
With that in mind, I've started trying to make my daughter (admittedly a lot older than yours at 13) more aware of what she eats. She gets mad with me about it but I hope one day she'll get it.
@ContraryMaryMary awesome report!

Completed the first 10K of the training and EVERYTHING hurt for a couple of days. It was really weird. The run day I was fine all day. Next day, my hip, knee and ankles were gone for the next two days. I'm starting to feel better now, which is good because we go back to training tomorrow.
Man this thread gets really busy if you don't check daily, you are definitely of the loop. Hope everyone has an amazing week!

Lots of foam rolling and stretching last night and this morning, as well as a super short walk with the dogs (letting them roam around and sniff themselves out). I also foam rolled and stretched this morning and am looking forward to some yoga at lunchtime. I've booked a massage for tomorrow night, hoping that'll help work out the knots in my legs. I really want to run 10 miles before the race but a friend reminded me that I won't be gaining much in the next two weeks. I promised him and my husband that I won't run through pain; if it acts up again, I will stop running and walk home.6 -

Average at least 135k per month, which would put me over 1,000 miles for the year.
Run the Year Team: Five for Nineteen
Scheduled rest day today. Golf instead of running. It was hot pulling those clubs around, and my legs knew that they had raced this past weekend. Another reminder that it takes me about a week to recover from a race.

Not in my house. My son has a certain set of things he must do as part of a team that is this family. Dishes, mow the lawn, etc. I also pay him to do some extra things. Always have, the jobs just were always age-appropriate.
He does not even complain much because it has been that way his whole life. Might be the only thing I got right as a parent though. LOL7 -
Hey guys. Thanks for the positive feedback about measuring! It's a relief really and you are all right about teaching her some good habits. We already have conversations about "all the time food vs sometimes food" and eating when hungry vs eating because bored etc. And she understands that which is great. She's also learning that it's a balance.
And you are right - learning what a serve actually is vs what you think it is...6 -
In exercise news, I'm about to go play squash, and do a lifting session. Yay.7
-
5 hot sweaty miles on trails at noon - had to take the cat to the vet and couldn’t get out while it was still cool. Cat is making upset noises and throwing up a lot and not eating and hiding under furniture - he’s very high strung and the vet thinks he may just be messing with us as payback for our being away this past week, since his vitals are otherwise good. He’s staying overnight for observation, hoping for the best.
Five miles felt super hard today. Partly the heat, and partly that we have lost so much conditioning from not running enough. It felt good to get out on trails for a (slightly) longer run.
On the upside, I made my 50 mile goal for July!9 -
I'm in for the accountability! I keep doing so well about 2.5 miles getting faster and almost to 3 miles then stop for a week and have to build up again.
Little over 2 days left in the month so looking forward to reporting more in August.
Today's goal is 2 miles... yes in the heat this afternoon because meal prepped work lunches with the extra hour instead of running in the cool.7 -
Where's August?
Tag your it.2 -
After a week off my hip is feeling much better. I plan to run again tonight but will be short in my July goal. I’m ok with that.6
-
I hope no one minds, 'cause I took the liberty of beginning the August 2019 Monthly Running Challenge.
Just hope everything works...8 -
Perfectly timed my run today. The rain was almost over but the sun hadn't come out to turn the day into a sauna.
My training plan called for a 3 mile pace run. I went for it and did 3.1 miles in 27:50! A new 5k PR for me - about 30 secs a mile off my old time!

I went to run group tonight and the workout was 5-7-3 minute intervals, with 1 minute recovery between. But I ran them at pretty easy pace because I'll do the actual speedwork on Wednesday. I just wanted to go to group to motivate myself to get a run done. Also my right knee is a little sore from Saturdays wedding extravaganza. Too much standing around and dancing in heels (low heels, but still).
That meets my mileage goal for this month. My stretch goal was 125, which I won't make, but I should get over 120. Which will be my highest mileage month since October.
I'll do some assessment for setting a goal for August and head over to that thread. I'm not sure I'm quite where I want to be training-wise at this point, but I'm feeling better about it than I have been.5 -
Excellent job on your 5k PR @martaindale!1

Excellent job on your 5k PR @martaindale!
Ooh, yes, I missed this! Great job!1 -
@contrarymarymary - great race report and awesome running over the 2 days!
@martaindale - congratulations on the PR!
Wasn't sure how today's run was going to be after the difficult long run on Sunday. I woke up to heavy marine layer clouds and lovely coolness. It stayed under 70F I think for the entire run and I was able to take Hobbes the Vizsla along for the 1st time in over a week. We had a few stops and starts as he wanted to sniff initially and then meet and greet pretty much everyone on the trail. It amazes me how much better I do when the temps are down even if the humidity is up and dew point is about the same... I guess I am just not made to run in hot weather. I have a 6 mile pace run on the plan for Wednesday so hopefully that should get me to my goal for the month!
I will jump over to the August thread and set a goal too. Thanks @Tramboman for getting it started!

Surprisingly good 9 mile run this morning. Was feeling achy and tired last night from working at my Mom's house all day yesterday. But after I got to running a few miles, everything felt pretty good, despite the return of the oppressive heat, humidity, and zero wind.
Ended July with 130+ miles (and no injuries) 😁
