<snip>Also...I do weight training and that has more helped with body composition than anything else. I lost 60lbs and went from 22/24 to 18 doing only cardio. Started weight training and fluctuated between another 1-10lb loss and 3-5 months, went from 18 to 14. I've continued to fluctuate between the 10lb loss, but my body is definitely re-shaping itself.
If your body is reshaping itself then it sounds like you are gaining muscle and burning fat. Please remember muscle weighs more than fat. Reshaping is a happy thing. Do not underestimate the effect it has on your appearance.0 -

I'm not gaining muscle, retaining I hope, but gaining muscle is extremely hard, especially for females. Muscle is more dense than fat, that's for sure and as I said...the weight training has helped with body composition.
Based on pictures, I'm definitely not underestimating what it is doing to my body..hahahaha. :bigsmile:0 -
I'll add that the "tough love" approach is honest, and honesty is what will help people change.
That assumes that everyone responds to the 'tough love' approach. I know I don't - in fact whenever I read people doing the boot-camp style, motivational piece (which always has a large self-congratulatory undertow in my mind), I have a massive desire to see them trampled under a rampaging herd of Wildebeest until there's nothing left but an insubstantial pool of steaming red goo.

I don't respond to tough love either. However, I recognize that there are many others who do respond to it. Take the stuff that is helpful to you, and leave the rest. Just because it doesn't help you doesn't mean it isn't helpful. Just because something isn't going to reach every single person doesn't mean that it shouldn't exist.
There are tons of threads here that are absolutely not helpful to me, like pretty much anything with cauliflower. I'm not going around calling out those OPs for creating threads that don't apply to me personally. I just ignore those threads.0 -

No. It's time from your life that you'll never get back.0 -

yes, you have to read all of it and write a 5 page essay about what you learned from it.0 -
People get so butthurt over a difference of opinion or approach to giving advice.
I agree with the OP. Yes, there are certain factors in life that make things more difficult and complicated when approaching weight loss. The same rules will still apply, to a degree.
Keep on keepin' on, folks.0 -
The message is spot on. The delivery sounds snotty and condescending. I think that is where OP went wrong...0

There is truth in the fact that there are a lot of crazy diets out there that complicate things when it's simply a matter of taking in less calories than expended. However we can't hide the fact that some of us need additional help and that's what those diets are trying to address. But we shouldn't have to sacrifice our favorite foods...it's just a matter of moderating the amount. We can also alter our eating habits by choosing foods that help "burn off fat". There are foods available that provide low calories and add bulk to help make us feel fuller so that we eat less.0
