Happy Halloween Ladies!!

Lisa - I always think I'm happy when "I am in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing." Sounds like you have that right now.
I do too.
I wouldn't change anything, except for wanting a bit more personal cash.
I know that everything could change in the blink of an eye, but, right at this moment, I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing, anywhere else I'd rather live, or anyone I'd rather be with.
I'm doing the lottery every week, so I'm always hopeful about the cash situation.
My friend won't be arriving until past my usual lunch time and then we have to go out to eat. I can see a Quest bar coming to my rescue.

Hey all! I am here! Busy week with Halloween activities, crafts, and food! Had to "tone down" some of the crafts due to the younger age of my kiddos this year. The four and a half year old boy that I usually have with me as gone on to full time preschool. (He was more than ready, I think his mom wasn't). Now the average age of my kids is 1 1/2 years. Not a lot of fine motor skills yet, so lots of "handprint" crafts and pre cut and "abstract" stuff. lol
I have managed to stay on task with my challenges this month! Yea! I got a little over 24 hours of exercise in and I also walked a little over 100 miles this month (my walking isn't counted towards my 24 hrs of exercise). SO...I have basically been doing two hours of exercise each day. This has been a struggle for me when you add that to 10 hour work days (plus home and hubby care). But I got it done and have been rewarded with...get ready...an eight pound loss! Whoot! I am going to take measurements tomorrow (I already had my Halloween costume on when I remembered measurements today). I am still wearing the same size pants, they just fit better; so maybe a good deal of toning going on; and let's face it, the way my pants fit before, I probably should have been in a larger size instead of packing myself in like a stuffed sausage. lol
Rebecca- Athena! and Tucker Adorable!
Suzy Q- Love the book recommendations! I also ready ...Scarlet Sky recently! I really enjoyed it! I will be looking into a couple of the other books you suggested. The Geography of Happiness one looks really interesting!
Heather- lol YOu and your "hunky handymen"! It is nice, though, when you get someone who does the work and cleans up after themselves! Power on to your hunky hubby; out there doing his share! So sorry to hear of DH's aunt (was it an aunt?)? The same thing happened to my hubby's great aunt. She was in her 90s and living/working her ranch and she fell while out in the fields. A neighbor spotted her barn door open and went to investigate and found her. Still alive, but broken hip. Thank god for neighbors, eh?
Kim- It is an older book, but I always recommend The Kindness Diaries to everyone I meet. I just adore that book! The author of the book, now has a show on Netflix (called The Kindness Diaries), but with the cameras there filming everything it just seems contrived and insincere. Not a fan of the show at all.
Well, the kids are arriving. First little one here is dressed as an ice cream cone! lol I will get pics. I am dressed as the child catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. (I am obv dating myself as not even the kids parents know who I am!)
Happy Halloween to all! ttfn xoxoxo KJ (Kelly)7 -

Barbie Thanks in advance for keeping us going for another month. Appreciate you so much.

Josephine the Ballerina is home for a few days between chemo rounds. She can wiggle the toes on her affected leg and is feeling hopeful. We have Jared boxes prepared for her next planned hospitalization (next week, I think). I didn't know anything about Jared boxes until a dear nurse friend from Pennsylvania was visiting. She & my partner made some wonderful choices & made up several Jared boxes for Josy's future hospitalizations. They made some extras to donate for other children. This hospital doesn't have an ongoing project but maybe this will spark it.
Still waiting for our new grandbaby. Daughter-in-law will be induced Monday if Lilliana doesn't make an appearance before then.
Hoping Kim isn't suffering too much from smoke & power outages. My cousin from Healdsburg last reported that their house is still safe. She and her husband evacuated to San Francisco.

Morning Ladies~
I am up and had my tea and got dressed, fed the poocher, packed some stuff for me, and took the garbage out..
I was listening to Joyce this morning.. she asked do you rest? most people dont know how to as its rush rush rush..
but on the days I have off now. I do take a little nap..I enjoy it , and it makes me feel better..
When I was with Tom very rarely did I rest, as he would go go go constantly, just as his father did , he still is that way and Elena says she feels guilty when she sits down like I did..
I honestly am very happy with my life other than work, I am losing weight and feeling better, have my precious pup and great friends and no desire to ruin that by looking for a man.. I have 2 failed marriages behind me,now is me time and I am Happy With that.. now to see what my boss says today..8 -

JRs bouncing around yelling it’s Halloween 🎃 he’s excited it’s the 1st one we will leave the house for. Got the candy ready in the closet to switch out what he gets. (Too unsafe not to anymore plus he still can’t have hard stuff yet).
We were going to do our garage hand outs with fully decorated fun for kids but after last years rudeness forget it the kids at our last house were from an orphanage, disability center,y a caring neighborhood so was a delight. Kids here put down the decorations to moan about the goodies we give. Last year gave out rubber spiders 🕷 that glow in the dark,McDonald’s coupons, pretzels, exspensive chocolate like Reese’s pieces to Hershey’s,lots of exotic candies , chips bags of them, more toys,y baby food treats like baby gummies to baby Gerber cracker packs. Yet moans even tho we allowed them to take multiples of any they wanted some filled their buckets allowing mommy y daddy to go home early! (That’s the main reason since it rained the past 4years sooner at home less chance of sickness y everyone happy at home in bed for school! Especially baby siblings can go to bed !)

Kelly WTG, I am inspired by your exercise challenges and will look for some November challenges to join!

We have lived in our house for the last 20+ yrs and have never had trick or treaters at the door. There is a busy street in front of our house and no sidewalk on our side of the road. I grew up in a very rural area and only remember going trick or treating one time when an adult took us after Sunday evening church.
Kelly ~ Great news on the 8 lb loss!
Heather and Lisa ~ So glad you are both in a good place in life. Prayers that it will stay that way for you.

Copied This from an Email Post:
Halloween is Big Business.
Second only to Christmas, Halloween is the biggest grossing holiday of the year when it comes to shelling out the shekels. Approximately 8 billion dollars will be spent this Halloween, with over 2.6 billion dollars being spent on Halloween costumes alone and plenty more being shelled out for trick or treat candy. 330 million bucks will be spent just on pet costumes!
Wouldn't it be nice if that money was spent on helping those who could benefit from the help!

Checking in early as going to be a full day. I work until 3:30, but have a meeting starting at 1 to who knows how long. It's a last minute one for leaders. Then I have candy already for the kids tonight. Last couple years we have not had many trick or treaters because of all the Trunk and Treats in town. But they usually bring all the grand children by so I can take pictures.
Amber-I get worn out just reading all you do with JR.
Michele--I love the snail, looks like spring.

Woke to this! Must admit that it's kinda nice after months of such heat in Texas! Have the heat on.

Some how I lost my other MFP account and cannot get MFP to bring it back, therefore I lost all my friends under the old account. Looking for new gal pals that are into heavy lifting, adventures and staying active. I am currently working with a personal trainer 2 x a week (lifting heavy) and I play racquetball with 3 of my friends 2 x a week.6

Cheri - Our heat finally kicked on early this morning. It was 65F in the house when I got up at 5. The outside temp was 31.
We didn't get many trick or treaters here until our neighborhood started doing a hay ride. Now we get 20ish kids all at once and maybe 7 or 8 stragglers at other times.

Just made myself a low cal version of blueberry pie. In the bottom I crumbles up a graham cracker. Then cooked the blueberries with some unsweetened applesauce added some cinnamon. I put the hot blueberry mixture over the cracker and added a dollop of whipped cream instead of ice cream. Not as sweet as true blueberry pie, but very satisfying. Might try it using other fruits.4

Amber ... your description of "city churches" sounds horrifying. I wouldn't allow a child of mine to attend that either. We too have a pager system in our church so that nursery staff can quickly get ahold of parents, and everything else is very transparent. A few years back we changed out the doors in all of the rooms so that they had windows. Everything is open to see everywhere! But to be honest, I never used the nurseries with my sons. I think that JR is receiving an invaluable lesson and memory by sitting with his family during church. I've never understood why people worry about fussing babies or cranky kids ...
It is raining cats and dogs here today. As a result our church "Trunk or Treat" has turned into an indoors event. We may get more than we bargained for! I just spent two hours turning an 8 foot table in the gym into my "trunk." My husband and I had originally planned a fishing theme and I think we recaptured that. I'll try and post a photo after tonight's event.
I will be so, so very glad when the Halloween candy has been moved out of the stores. This holiday, more than Christmas and Easter, causesgreat grief with my eating plan. The words "fun size" and "miniature" seem to be magnets to me.
Lanette ... I restarted my produce box. Here's yesterday's offerings. I only get one smaller box every other week. The produce is organic and all of this was in perfect condition!

My bathing suit came! Never realized just how stretched out my old one was. I think I’ll probably just take it and leave it at the condo. I already have one bathing suit down there.

Margaret: That recipe sounds delish. Thanks for sharing.
Lisa: Your happiness radiates right off the page. Bravo on your attitude towards your boss.
Relatively good news from podiatrist yesterday. What I am feeling on the outside of my foot is the avulsion fracture from my slip in April. It's only been 6 months, and the bones do show some bridging to the tendon from where it separated. However, it may never entirely heal. The bones there are so small, it's not even something that can be pinned together with surgery. Employing orthotics, stiff shoes and modifications to some moves, I can continue exercising. I need to get back to stretching with the therapy bands, too. With knowledge comes relief. I am going to focus on continuing the healing, while simultaneously getting back to the gym.
October 2019 intentions and scorecard:
🎯 Be lighter - down .8 I am 3 pounds from normal BMI.
🎯 Get back to photo scanning project. Avg 15 mins/day. Fail Got sidetracked with decluttering DH's desk. Still a work in progress.
🎯 Add harder intervals to daily recumbent bike workout. Done
🎯 Intentionally connect with acquaintances and neighbors. Set up coffee/lunch dates. Done Three lunches with neighbors this month. Already have 2 set up for November.
Hold a good thought for my brother today. He has a Skype interview for a job where he is a top candidate, up against stiff competition. His birthday is coming up. This would make turning 60 a tad more special.
Happy Halloween to all who celebrate. Brother and I are setting up a a simple display of departed loved ones so we can casually celebrate Dia de Los Muertos starting tomorrow.
Stay well. We can do this.

We are not doing trick or treat this year. Next door is going full out with the decorations etc. In Hove the kids only call if you put out a decoration or lit pumpkin, so we can hide in the back of the house.
When we did do it in our last house and when we went round with the kids here, we were amazed at how polite the kids were. We had to encourage them to take more than one candy and they were full of thank yous. Such nice, polite children!!!!!
Photo of my friend in front of one of the more decorated houses.
We had a wonderful seafood lunch with homemade pasta at my favourite ice cream place. Lovely day and a good walk.

beth those veggies don’t look at all like misfits-they look yummy.
Margaret . I like your creative blueberry pie, never thought of adding applesauce-I’m gonna try it
Rori sounds like helpful information about your foot and you are on the right track. I’m holding a good thought for your DB’s interview
Will stay in tonight and exercise—Won’t have any little goblins or witches knocking on our door—too rainy.
See you all on the November thread.

Amber ~ My DnL and her Mother (both teachers) keep the nursery at their church once a month. I will have to ask her about the safety precautions there as the church has thousands of members and is very large. I do remember leaving my son in the nursery when he was an infant and I guess I was too dumb to think about his safety.
Margaret ~ I looked back and that recipe sounds great. My biggest thing lately is finding out I could cut apple and pear wedges and roast them in microwave for about 20 secs. Very good and a little cinnamon adds to the flavor.
Heather ~ Your friend looks great.

evening ladies~
got my car back.. it was a bit more money than i expected ,but looks brand spankin new. I figure with the money I got from my dad, it will help pay the extra that insurance didnt, and will pay off 2 small credit card bills with money still in savings..
Boss said no to raise and more hours, he doesnt want me to leave ,but is also looking to hire another part timer and not give me the hours,if thats not a slap in the face.. so I will put my chin up and start a vision board formyself and what I want to do..and will do it~~~7 -
BOO! You know what day it is! But if you'd rather celebrate National Knock Knock Joke Day, I won't judge...
Michele - The snail is so cute! Imagine what a smile that would give someone walking past your porch or garden!
Margaret - I do something kind of similar to your blueberry pie, but with apples. The fruit and spices satisfy the urge for pie pretty well, and they are sweet enough that no added sugar is needed.
Philip went the the gym with me to work out today. It's only been two weeks but so far he's sticking with it so I've got hope that he'll decide to hang in there as my workout buddy once his trial membership expires.
We don't get trick-or-treaters here and it's unbelievably gorgeous here today, so after dinner I'll be walking over to one of the local taprooms to listen to a band and hang out with Philip while he does chair massage. And I'll have enough calories left over to have a beer, too!
That's it for me - see you in November!

Happy Halloween ladies!
We are hoping we don't get any goblins stopping by - mainly the racket the schnauzers set off doesn't make it worth it, plus we generally don't get any on our unlit private road. I did buy one small bag of butterfingers just in case. Hopefully DH will scarf down most of them if we get no takers.
Rori - so sorry about the slow healing on your foot; glad there are ways around it. Loved hearing that you are getting out more and lunching with neighbors! Crossing fingers a LOT for your brother and this job. It would be ideal if he could stay in the area - give you some time away from your DH to do some things if he could stop by. Glad the grocery pickup is working for ya. Your icicles gave me a chill!
Allie - I never make it to Costco but have plenty of friends that shop there, will ask them to see if they can find any crepini for me. Your boss's reasoning for not giving you the raise and potentially cutting your hours by hiring another part-timer is so sad. Good luck in your job search!
Beth - those are good looking misfit veggies, I'd take them in a heartbeat. Good amount and variety. May I ask what you pay for the box? I was paying $25 for my box which had about 1/3 of the amount yours has, glad I was able to cancel it. I'm curious where your misfits vendor sources the veggies.
I've been watching "My 600 lb life" as I've mentioned before. While I don't need weight loss surgery, I am fascinated by the interaction the patients have with the therapists and often see a little bit of myself when it comes to how to deal with out of control eating and how to face the demons that often drive it.
Heather - love the photo of your friend in front of the decorated house. What year was your home built? I really like the solid looking brick. And see if your hunky tree trimmers want a job in the US! I could keep them busy for at least a day. Trimming the trees and shrubs, lol.
Carol - I was going to mention how painful it must have been for your dad. I remember my mom and dad both getting kicked by cows and horses, thankfully not in the mouth.
Karen in VA - What's a Jared box? Glad Josephine is in good spirits. Good luck to Lilliana's mom and hope she has a safe and quick "birth day".
Michele - your Pooky snail looks great, I don't see anything wrong with it!
Regarding books - someone on here mentioned "Being Mortal" by Atul Gawande. I got it from the library and have read about half of it. Very insightful, and depressing for me right now. I keep reading in this book and other sources that falling is the worst thing that can happen to an elderly person. So this morning I dug out one of my "gentle" Leslie Sansone DVD's and did a 20 minute walk. Dancing is supposed to be so good for us, so I threw in some 1960's and 70's dance moves, lol. This has to be good for balance and strengthening ankles and legs.
Also, regarding balance, I mentioned falling to DH this morning - he fell in the bedroom a couple days ago and really skinned up his arm. He failed to turn on the light lost his balance - so it was preventable. He said he falls at least once a week, he also tripped up the outside stairs and landed on the deck on his knees and hands. Geesh.
OK ladies, that sizes it up for now.
Barbie, thanks in advance for upcoming November thread. The year is whipping by!

Well it is 30 something degrees here and with wind chill in mid 20s-spitting some snow. Usually have 100 or so trick or treaters come by-just a handful so far. It is supposed to last until 8, but choir practice starts at 7:30 and since "business" is slow (like 12 kids so far), I will pack it in. Luckily I can take candy to work and we will use it for candy bags for foster kids Christmas. I will probably keep a couple of smaller favorites for treats for myself but have been good and not opened the bags until tonight.
Stay warm all (if you are anywhere where it is cold!)
