Allie: You are a good friend to your neighbor, Lil. I hope she is okay. :flowerforyou:
Dr. Katie: Happy 65! You sweet young thing!!!
Kim: Your neighbor is lucky to have your support and help.
Machka: When we were in College there was a massive snowfall in Lane County, OR, and the streets of Eugene & Springfield couldn’t be plowed for days because the nearest snowplows were miles away in the mountains. The dorms were full of kids who had no outlet for fun or frustration, and there were some knife fights and stabbings there. I believe the correct psychological term for this is a behavioral sink. There were some taverns that arranged to get beer delivered, & the police were stationed all over the campus area. My apartment building never lost power. A house just across the road from us collapsed from snow load on the roof. No one was injured in the collapse as far as we knew.
Floods, fires and blizzards can happen unexpectedly and out of the blue just about anywhere. California has sure had more than its share of fires in the past few years. I think they should work on burying all power lines. That would reduce the manmade causes of fire. Nature is still nature & lightning would still be possible, but look at how much might be protected! (I realize the change over would be expensive in the short run, but not in the long run.)
Rebecca: What a cute puppy!
I have been under doctor’s care for a while now. Still have bleeding sinuses but the meds are helping.

Our friends from Cornwall are arriving in less than an hour. We are going out in the chill for pizza after a glass of something sparkling. I hope the guy will be ok as he has stage 4 lung cancer, but is doing well on chemo. It's a short walk to the bus.
I did a bit of quite unnecessary cleaning today, but it's never wasted and it's lovely when the house looks nice.
Feeling a bit under par and so is DH. I think we may have caught a cold from Bea.

I’m excited today!! Only 1 pound to goal after a 2 month plateau!

Happy Monday! I think Fall went by faster then Spring. It is to snow today. I had a good weekend. Worked Saturday and yesterday after church, just stayed home and did things around there after a nap.
Tracey--I love the story about your 101 year old lady. She is very lucky to have her family so involded in her life.
Katla--Sure hope you feel better soon.
Katiebug--So sorry to hear about your dad's fall. Hope he heels fast. Happy Birthday a day late.
We are getting new neighbors across from us and next door. The one across has been a rental all the almost 17 years we have lived in our house. The guy that owns the house and his wife broke up so he has been redoing the place to live in himself. At this point I think he would of been better off just tearing it down and starting over. But they are about done and he is living there. Then next door are moving out so will be getting new neighbors there. It is also a rental and we have been Blessed there excpet the time they rented to some party drug people and it was a mess. They threw beer bottles and cans over the fence into our yard and just all kinds of trash. Every time I called the lady that owns the place and the father of the girl that rented the house for her. They were only there many 5-6 months but after they left they had to gut and redo the inside of the place. I just pray whoever we get next are decent people.
Okie--Love the outfits. Really look the parts and sounds like a lot of fun.
Lisa--My DDIL uses the Wal-Mart pickup as she says she doesn't have to drag the kids and end up buying things not on her list. I have thought about it, but not tried yet.
Kim--How nice of you to check on your neighbor and make arrangements to take her with you if needed. It must be so scarly for her.
Rebecca--What a cute puppy. Looks like he is going to be a big dog. Althea is growning fast and so cute.
Well time to get some work done and sounds like some flakes are starting to come down.
Blessings, Vicki GI NE5 -
SuzyQ – thanks for the reminder that if I’m tempted for something sweet, a swig of vinegar squelches the urge. For some reason, I haven’t thought of that in quite a while
Michele
LOL - I could never swig the vinegar, but can eat a small kosher pickle (what 5-10) calories. Does help me rid the sweet taste out of the mouth.
For filling breakfast at 50 calories?! Mine average between 200-350 calories. I have picked up Cascadian Farms high-fiber cereals and eat 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup as a snack (200-230 per cup). Egg whites, instead of egg substitute, may be a better option. One egg white has 17 calories.0 -
Has anyone else had trouble logging in food and exercise in MFP today? I keep getting error messages. I also have to hit Community right away or MFP just does not let me in. Strange!1

Happy belated birthday, Katiebug! My son's 19th birthday was yesterday, as well.
No word on the potential job, yet, but today is the earliest I would have expected to hear anything. The position officially closed on Friday, so I am not worried yet. Actually, I am not worried in any case. I am happy where I am, so it will be fine, whatever happens.
I am so sorry for the fires and power outages in California. One of my husband's coworkers has been without power for one week. That's difficult to imagine.

Had to log off and log back in. Looks like all is good to go now. I record exclusively in MFP and said to self.....hm, how many calories do I have for dinner? If I could not log back in to find out I would have had a light salad. Glad I was able to log in because I have 600 calories that I must eat to make my minimum.
Work has been crazy lately. Most days I am not eating breakfast until 11:00 am which is late considering I start at 7:00. I am not hungry first thing in the morning and simply cannot force myself to eat before work.
Hope everyone has a great day, evening, sleep!2 -
Kay: Belated happy birthday.
Kim: You are such a good neighbor and truly caring person. Sorry your boss is moving.
Shopping online: I started this past May ordering my weekly groceries for pick up from Walmart when I was nursing two broken ankles. I've kept it up because it has proven to be a huge time and money saver. I get so many of the same things over and over, and the choices they have made relative to meats, fish and veges have been excellent. I have to minimize the amount time I leave DH alone, so this has been a terrific benefit for me. I backfill anything I might have missed by going to Costco, Sprouts or Trader Joe's.
We are looking at 5 inches of fresh powder outside our door, which is starting to melt in the sunshine. However, it's still below freezing. Brother is experiencing his first real winter weather. He was a bit traumatized yesterday when he went outside the house to await a Uber, and in just a short while, he was chilled to the bone and his lungs hurt. It's not like I don't advise him how to dress for temps in the 20's -- stubborn man thinks he can handle anything. Today he woke up and said it still hurt to breath deeply. We are not leaving the house today, and I'm trying to keep him, sick cat, and DH all fed and amused.
Take care friends. We can do this.

Today is International Animation Day!
"This day commemorates the first public performance of Charles-Émile Reynaud's Théâtre Optique at the Grevin Museum in Paris, 1892. In 1895, the Cinematograph of the Lumière brothers outshone Reynaud's invention, driving Émile to bankruptcy. However, his public performance of animation entered the history of optical entertainments as shortly predating the camera-made movies. ... During International Animation Day cultural institutions are also invited to join in by screening animated films, organizing workshops, exhibiting artwork and stills, providing technical demonstrations, and organizing other events helping to promote the art of animation."
Rita - You should go to one of the UFO museums while you're there! I think there are still several but there is one pretty prominent one on the main street through Roswell. They have a little grey alien figure you can take pictures with, and tons of delightfully tacky souvenirs. Have you ever camped at Valley of Fires State Park (down near Carrizozo)? It's a cool spot - very otherworldly landscape there.
Pip - Oh, Pip, I am so sorry to hear about Floyd's diagnosis. I know what a heartbreaking decision that was. Every time we have to do it I think I'd rather take the needle myself if it would save my sweet furry companion. Wishing you comfort in knowing Floyd had a wonderful life and a peaceful ending in the arms of his beloved people. We'll miss his gorgeous face around here.
Tracey - Your friend at the nursing home sounds like an inspiration to everyone around her! That's great news about finding your ring.
SuziQ - Wow, you look fantastic!
Rebecca - Oooooh, the new puppy photo made me squeal! What an adorable little moppet.
I'm not sure what happened but I seem to have found some motivation. Not looking a gift horse in the mouth! I've made a lot of little changes over the past couple of weeks but I think the motivation came first rather than the other way around. That said, I hope all those changes will help me keep it going. I decided to set what for me is a fairly aggressive goal of losing 20 pounds before our ski trip in February. It's about 16 weeks so I'll have to work hard, but it should be doable if I keep up the workouts.
Philip and I are continuing to plank every day, and he's going to the new gym with me twice a week. I really really hope he'll decide to stick with it, because it's a huge help for me if we go together. He's a skinny guy but a little exercise will do him good anyway. We do strength training on those days, but I'll probably go back in there in between now and then to use the rowing machine although my main focus for cardio right now is the ski machine. We're also getting the hang of Mealime for meal planning and I'm learning some little tips that make it work better for us. The user interface still frustrates me and I wish they'd put in some work on their web site because doing it all on the phone is ridiculously cumbersome.
Th-th-that's all, folks!

Wow, DD and I worked really hard this last weekend and got the paddock cleaned up and recycled asphalt put down. We shoveled for 3 hours yesterday but it looks good and will hopefully help with the winter mud situation.
Happy birthday Katie!

Thank you all for your kind words regarding the loss of our Floyd. I don’t have the words to let you all know how much it meant to us8

Power Outages - All this talk is motivating me to get my “emergency” tub together. I did manage to clear out my file cabinet and find the house deeds after the last fire scare, but I still need to gather the solar flashlights, ensure the battery powered candles are ready, and put the earthquake kits together.
Michele- Oatmeal is a great breakfast food. Get the plain one and add peanut butter and some banana slices. It’s satisfying and healthy. I know you said you like variety, but egg whites are a great protein source, low calorie (2 egg whites are 50 cals) and you can add something different every day to make them different. I use pesto, Chimuchurri, marinara sauce, gravy from dinner, etc. Eggs are versatile. I get the ones that have one ingredient: Egg whites. I don’t like the substitutes such as egg beaters. I also make cloud eggs and toast them rather than having bread.
SuzyQ - I have trouble with MFP logging quite often. At least a few times per day. The community seems to be more stable.
Napping - There hasn't been conversation on this, but I need to learn how to nap. Since I now eat dinner once in a while, I’ve stopped sleeping well those nights. Any advice? I have never been able to nap. I think it’s my brain being too busy thinking about what I should be doing other than napping.
I’m in the middle of a spring clear out. I call it that because I started in the spring and I expect it’ll continue right through next spring. How do we accumulate so much stuff?????4 -

RV Rita – congrats! Doing a happy dance for you
Beth – yup, green beans in my cereal. I told you I have some strange breakfasts
Went to ceramics tonight and then mahjongg.
Sh0tzz – oatmeal is one of the things I have. Steel cut is good, but not real good in the calorie dept. ohhh….talking about eggs reminds me that I have these egg poacher cups on my Christmas list. I can’t wait to get them, then I can have a poached egg. I have had salsa on my egg and some cheese. Honestly, I don’t have a problem napping. Just set me in front of the TV and I’m out

Scary!
But I was thinking more of the fact that so much of our courses these days are done online. I get my assignments online, I submit them online, the lecture notes and recordings are online.
If they shut the power down here, university would grind to a halt!
Breakfast -- I don't eat it except on weekends. Then I eat a piece of toast with nutella and jam and a piece of toast with cheese.
MFP Log -- sometimes you need to close your browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE, etc.), then open it and delete your history and cookies. Then run Malwarebytes to check things. Then open your program (like MFP) again.
You'll have to log in again with user name and password, and you'll have to do that with everything so I only do it about once every couple months.
Shopping Online -- I have even started ordering some produce! But mostly I get the non-produce items, then we walk to a little local grocery shop that has some good produce or I go to a fresh fruit and veg market close to work and pick some up there. Plus my husband is in the process of growing things.
Regarding substitutions ... I can select if I want things substituted or want my money refunded. I can write a note to clarify what kind of substitution I will accept. And when they get things wrong (maybe twice in the past 18 months), I ring them up and get it fixed.
Napping -- I'd love to have the time! Naps are rare luxury items. The closest I get to naps is when I nod off in my lectures or on the bus on the way home. I just have to sit still for a moment with nothing much to do and I'm asleep ... I'm just that tired.
This past weekend, I was absolutely dragging, could hardly keep my eyes open on Sunday afternoon while we were waiting for our cycling event to wrap up. I figured I had a couple hours before our rider (we don't get a high participation on these events) came in, so I briefly toyed with the idea of indulging in a nap. Instead I went for a 2 km jog which woke me up a bit, and then continued studying.
If I exercise fairly well during the day, I'll sleep well at night.
Okie-- I also love the outfits.

About naps For me, I've found that having a routine helps me sleep better. I eat my meals on schedule, go to bed on schedule, and get up on schedule. I get drowsy after lunch, but found that taking a nap makes it harder for me to sleep well at night, so now I get up and move around in the afternoon to ward off the drowsy time so I don't take a nap.

1 Final Exam
Done!!
I do still have some follow-up paperwork for the cycling events which I hope to finish today, but it isn't immediately urgent.
Next ...
I've got 2 weeks off university and my next course starts Nov 11. But I do need to locate my textbook and review the unit outline, etc.
And I've got a list of home things to work on!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes. I spent most of the day in church with Sunday school and morning worship, then charge conference in the afternoon. It was a district wide meeting with lots of people I knew. They sang happy birthday to me so that was pretty special. Dave cooked steaks and I made salad, then we had ice cream and cake that he bought. Dave gave me a very nice long dress wool coat. I had been wanting one. My granddaughter called me on the phone and my sister face timed me with my great niece. It was a very nice day.
Today I started the day with my dad at the doctor. For now we are going to let the jaw heal on its own, continuing the soft diet. The doctor offered to refer him to an orthodontist for a mouth guard, but said it was up to daddy. He said no thanks! After the doctor’s appointment, I went to the gym and did an upper body workout. Then I went shopping for children’s underwear which I took to the clothes closet for foster children, where I volunteered for a couple of hours sorting clothing donations. Then Dave and I went to Sam’s club for a few things. In all, it was a busy but nice day.

Machka “take THAT math teacher!” hahahahahaha
Rebecca Tucker oh that face! And Athena's too of course... ;{
Lanette loved hearing about your tiny but mighty neighbor. My BFF was 6' tall and I am not quite 5'. We used to walk our dogs through the east bay hills and back in those days I could keep up. We were Mutt and Jeff. Wishing you happy trails with your new walking pal.
Rita Yippee!
Katla “bleeding sinuses” oh no! I'm so very sorry to hear this. Wishing you well.
Sh0tzz99 not sure I undertstand why you need to learn to nap, but have you tried just resting? A little meditation or 10 minutes with your legs up a wall can be as restorative as a catnap. I'm with Machka and Michele, as soon as I'm still, I'm falling asleep. Means I fall asleep easily, sleep about 5 hours, wake up and... either get up and do something for an hour or two or three so I can go back to sleep for two hours, or toss and turn uselessly for hours and hours.
'nother flyby. I went to BB&B while guest walked a nearby beach. Then she and I took Tumble for a 2 mile beach walk. Corned beef, potatoes, cabbage and a real beer, half a glass of wine watching the sunset at yet another beach, hot tub time and I'm zzzing as I type. Tomorrow driving to Cape Arago and Bandon, hope to be back in time for the line dance potluck.
May not update stats 'til Thursday, just too sleepy.
Lighter, lovelies!

Hi all! I have been busy reading, but not doing much of anything else. Even skipped the gym today. I sort of have an excuse (yeah, yeah, I know.....) but I worked yesterday (Sunday) which is not normal anymore for me. Lately on Sundays it's been walking with a friend then cleaning house. One of my co-workers has 3 (yes, 3!) kidney stones and is in excruciating pain. I've only ever had one experience with kidney stones (oh so very grateful for that!) so I do understand her not being able to work and now my end of month paycheque will be quite nice! lol Always look for the silver lining! Anyway, so today I got some housework done, and will have to finish the rest tomorrow (Tuesday).
I have been having a hard time sticking to an eating plan, so I decided to just make some mini goals. My goal for today was to log all food. And I did it! I was 500 cal over my goal, but that's okay for now. My goal for tomorrow is to log my food again. I will be going to the gym, and now know that I need to burn at least 500 cal in order to make any difference on the scale. For tomorrow anyway.
Can't remember if I said it or not, certainly thought it, Pip so sorry to hear of Floyd's passing. Hugs to you and Kirby.
Machka, reading about how much you do every day exhausts me! I don't know quite how you manage to keep up! Although I have heard that if you need something done, ask a busy person! lol
Katla, bleeding sinuses, that does not sound good! Sincerest get well wishes being sent your way.
Rebecca, oh my! Pictures of Athena AND a puppy?? Cuteness overload! lol
Kim, was watching the news today, those fires leave me speechless. Keeping you and yours in my thoughts. Sorry to hear that your boss is leaving. Never seems to be that the jerks leave, it's always the nice guys!
Can't remember anything else right now, must be getting close to bedtime!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Day 2 - most of the kitchen units have been taken out. We had a slight problem with the shower, the electrician is here this morning to fix it. The plumber should also be here a bit later to move some water and or gas pipes (I think) Hope nothing else goes wrong, keeping fingers crossed.
Love to all
Viv UK6 -
viv good luck with the renovation. There will always be an unexpected bump or two along the way but the end result is always exciting.
I’m exercising on my treadmill every day (sometimes 2 times per day) which is going well. The app that tracks and syncs with MFP not so much, so I’m going “old school”
—after every workout I move a penny in a jar, sometimes the simplest things Oh, and I don’t know if it’s accurate but each workout is 120 calories burned and I’m not eating back those calories.
Still walking past the Halloween candy, it’s a gauntlet out there!! But I’ve got you all In my pocket
