Hey. I did 82km in October. Going to increase that to 90 for November.
Starting with a relay race tomorrow. 150km around the mountain!12 -
So both resident dogs are trained to run in front of me and it's a "job" for them. They were just not very good at heel bumping into me too much. Foster dogs i try to teach both.
They learned right, left, leave it, get it (go faster), slow, walk, move over, come here. It being a job helps keep them focused.
Cuddler tries to hold it till we finish running. Speed demon will get ahead and pee so she doesn't disrupt the pace. Only fly by sniffing allowed.
I don't do treats since neither are really food motivated.
It helped a lot. Cuddler was VERY leash reactive. Speed Demon was terrified of everything. Running and walking is much less stressful now.
Shadow knows right left and straight. We use them when hiking too. She's smart.3 -

I use let's go for faster, slow, and stop also 'with me' if he decides to go off on his own, especially useful at agility when I need him to stay next to me for some part of a course. There are other agility commands that we practice at times on walks like a specific type of stop (boom) with his hind paws on an obstacle and his front off, around when he needs to go around an obstacle, typically a jump, etc.

November is the biggest mileage month in my training plan so my goal is 285km.
I have two HM races, one this Sunday and another on 23 November.

I have registered for a half on 9th November though it is way to early in the plan to try and jog that. It is the only local event that allows me to try for 15k before the year end but anything over 12k will be new territory for me since I started this weight loss plan and it is all for a good cause.8 -
Aiming for 100 miles in November. I'd like to slowly build my long runs up a bit more, so that half marathon isn't such a big deal. But staying healthy is the main priority!10

Final little run before the race this morning. I have failed dismally at hitting either my 'just finish before the sweeper' or my PR target paces, so it remains to be seen what actually happens on Sunday.
I read somewhere about the 10-10-10 strategy for marathons and am intending to embrace the reduced version of that. Basically it says run the first 10 miles (or 5 in my case) with your head (in other words hold back), the next 10 (or 5) with your legs and training and the final 10k (or 5k) with your heart (aka go get it!). Will report on that on Monday!
I set myself a goal of 120km for October with a stretch goal of 134km. I've run 143.64km so guess that was a win. Words cannot express how hard it was this morning for me to remember I'm tapering and not keep going to make it a round 145.
On the topic of our Saturday-Sunday miles for Kevin, there are still some empty slots but it doesn't really matter. The point was that the last goal for this year that @MobyCarp had spoken of was the New York marathon, and as he can't run it we will run for him on the day. I was unable to take part in the tribute runs for Dennis, but vaguely remember someone did something on Strava? Anyone remember what or know how to do it?

Into the peak of my marathon training plan, but nursing leg injuries right now. That is a bad combination. Plan calls for a minimum of 142 miles, but I'll be lucky if I run 100. So I'll set a goal of 100, and see how close I can come to the 142.
Going to start November with a 2 hour tribute run for @MobyCarp. Can't miss that.10 -
Looking forward...
Saturday, Nov 2nd is my last "I care about it" race of the year. It is the Pittsburgh 10 miler. I have not run a 10-mile race like 1/2 a decade, and at that time I ran it in 1:27. I was nowhere near in the shape I am in now. Of course, at that time I was training for shorter faster races and not 50ks. So while the distance is "short" to me now, I might not be as fast. I am targeting breaking 1:20, but not sure if that is doable. I do not normally run that fast. But we will see.
I might pick up a 5 or 10k here or there, but right now I plan not to have anything serious until Pittsburg Marathon in May. I used to run several winter races a year, but with my Raynaud's getting much worse over the last year I am taking the winter months off from racing and scale back training to probably 3 runs most weeks (10-15 miles each)
For 2020 I have 3 races planned currently:
Pittsburgh Marathon - Time to beat 3:51
Glacier Ridge Trail 50k - Time to beat 7 hours
Hell Have No Hurry Trail 50k- Time to beat 9 hours
But I have thought about it a lot and I think 2020 will be the last time I run a road marathon. I think in the future I will be 30k or less only for road races. I will still do ultras on the trail, but I really feel like the abuse on the body of a road marathon is too much. Probably will do Pittsburgh Half Maraton in 2021.
Also, by next spring I hope my anti-trex plan has had good results and I plan to attempt a tough obstacle course:

With a foot making walking difficult, my November plan is very much a variation of the @MobyCarp school of thought -
"stay healthy, get uninjured"
Long term 2020 goals - (when I'm back running)
Focus on 10k races and aim for speed over distance
Try a new class, like boxing or parkour. AND join a barbell club

A PARKOUR CLASS WOULD BE AWESOME. Wonder if there are any cheap yet good ones near me. This spring would be a good time after I have like 4 or 6 months of anti-t-rex2 -

Now, running is a piece of my weight loss strategy, I hope to obtain my goal weight around June 2020.

I’m keeping it loose: no plans.
Tonnes of plans for spring... only time (and the grumpy old legs) will tell whether I can actually do them all!
In a perfect world I want to do a trail HM on Feb 28, I'm already signed up for a big road HM on March 22, then at Easter we're hiking the final 110km or so of St James' Way.

Hello all and hanks @shanaber for setting this up.
I think my aim for November is just to get back to running regularly. October was a bit of a slow one due to illness/laziness after my first HM. Hopefully this most recent cold will go so I can breathe properly again and I can get back to a routine.
Plans for 2020? I'm hoping to sign up for more races, rather than my usual one a year. A few 5k/10k's and maybe a half marathon or 2!4 -
Plans for 2020..
None so far. I do want to sign up for a few races. More than this year cause well now I have the bug. Maybe another HM (or 2) a couple 5K, a couple 10K, and a 10 miler. So aiming for 6+ races. I don't have a desire to run anything longer than HM. Maybe one day, never say never right? But for now, this is good for me.
That and to just keep running.

I eat around half of my exercise calories (mainly as I don't believe the calorie burn they give) which allows for the odd treat and it gave me the energy to finish C25K and run a couple of 10ks this month whilst still losing weight.

Thanks and good job on your weight loss as well! I got kinda bored before with the C25K so that's why I decided not to use it this time. I guess it was back around June I started back doing some very short intervals of 30 seconds running then 1 minute. At some point I started doing intervals of 1-3-5-3-1 (minutes, with walk breaks between) then upped to 3-5-7-5-3. Then I decided one day to run 10 minutes, then 12, etc. It seems to be working so far and I run 3 times a week generally.
I have not been eating back my exercise calories so far and am just kinda thinking of running as calorie burning right now. So I just kinda do what I feel like I guess. Sometimes I'll walk uphill 2 min on the treadmill, run 2 min, hop off and do 2 min strength training, repeat, repeat, repeat for a 30 min workout.6 -
Plans for 2020 are:
5K in Feb
10K in March
15K in April
Half in April
Half in October (maybe, I might be pregnant by October in which case I don’t know that I would still want to do this one.)

2. Run in an actual organised race, -parkrun counts.
3. Keep running regularly.
Seems a bit of a stretch!

Not a stretch! You can do it! And don’t feel like you have to be at a certain weight to sign up for an organized race, I did my first half while I was still in the obese BMI category and there were lots of people my size and bigger

7/18/2020 - Mount Spokane Vertical Challenge - trail 10k
10/7/2020 - Wild Moose Chase - trail 5k or 10k

There are other possibles too but I don't have those written down. I suspect I'll only choose to run a couple of the possibles. I've done all of the 5k's listed here at least once before. A HM in May would be my first, since I DNS this year's in August. How that goes will determine the likelihood of signing up for the one in October.4 -

I will be out 6am on Sunday morning GMT. Which is either 1am or 2am EST. Anyway put me down for an hour.1 -

Orphia kept the master list, and it was me who set up the Strava thing. Mostly I was aiming for some sort of visualization like a flyby that would go all around the world showing the 24 hours. But I never really got it to work. Not everyone is going to have a GPS file, and I had to download all the files we had, then change the times on all of the files, then re-upload to get it to line up right... and the flyby had to be zoomed out so far they were meaningless, OR you could zoom in but then had to manually move around on the map. I'm not convinced it was worth the work, unless someone else has better computer skills than me and wants to try something. I also wonder if anyone has access to @MobyCarp's actual Strava account.2 -

I want to make Shadow a mini agility course in the backyard. She's too smart and has too much energy I feel we need to do something with her. She loves running and hiking though and it's really helped her energy level and behavior.0
