Beth ~ I agree with you! I looked up seeking an IEP for autistic children in GA and it appears that it can be done. I would think that all of the previous documentation would be acceptable enough. My grandson has an IEP due to his ADD and inability to copy from a board onto his paper (don't know the name of that problem).

Karen- Does he attend a Mental Health Mental Retardation center? If so can the local MHMR help?or his Doctors y private Counselors? I’d ask sometimes they know a short cut! Had to use their help a few times for Mom even.

If you haven't done it in writing, make a written request for an IEP and state that you would like a written answer for your lawyer to review. That might be enough to make them think again.8

A day with nothing scheduled that I have to go out for. Trying to finish up Christmas lists. Have Christmas letter written. Need to copy and send out. Will finish decorations in house. Theme for choir party this year is Austrian so I am going to try making Austrian chocolate balls.
Kim - gorgeous tree skirt.
Katla - Hope your trip to Powell's is wonderful.
Karen - sounds like you have gotten some good advice on the IEP.
Everyone take care Sue in WA3 -
Good morning.
I had a relaxing weekend with my mother. Her car is getting some work done, so on Saturday, I took her out to do errands. Then that evening, we went to dinner with my two nieces. One lives in the same town as my mother, but the other was up for a visit -- she was adopted at her birth, so I've actually met her only a handful of times. It was very nice to see her.
My husband and son got home safely. I think they had a wonderful trip. We have one more week of school/work, then on Saturday, the three of us head to Mexico for Christmas. My two older sons are going to spend the week of Christmas with my mom. She has a couple doctor appointments to which she would appreciate having someone else drive. My oldest son has volunteered. He is also going to make Christmas dinner for her. I am sorry to miss that, but I am super thankful to be going to Mexico!
So talking about birthdays last week . . . Everyone in my house forgot mine this year. Lol It's okay. My two oldest children never remember. And my husband and youngest son were out of the country. My mom remembered, a couple high school friends messaged me, and my father-in-law called. And my former boss texted me! So I wasn't completely forgotten. A couple weeks before my birthday, my husband bought me a new electric griddle and joked that it could be my Christmas/birthday present, and they brought me some beautiful glass pieces from the factory they toured. So it's all good.
I guess that's all I've got. Except our cat removes a Christmas decoration from our tree each day, and leaves it under the tree on the tree skirt! Such a nut.

Kim - I think your embroidery is just stunning, some of the prettiest I've seen...
Karen - glad you have good advice--my sis got her Down syndrome son all the way to high school graduation, but it took many, many tears, hair tearing, and cussing out a few functionaries during the years of "mainstreaming" him. Why do systems make it even harder for those who struggle? It never made sense to me, when the ones who need assistance the most seem to get the least.
Chugging along - swapped gears on my work thing and got it done a different way - we'll see how it goes with the alphabet soup gang tomorrow... (CEO, CSO, CFO, CMDO, etc.)
Now to write up three months of reporting that haven't been asked for since September, and are now due on Thursday... Whee!
Off to the races, my chickens,

Karen, I agree with others. If you have an Autism diagnosis, he should begin with an IEP. I’m pretty sure my grandson started school at 3 with an IEP in place.
I’m reading Good Sugar, Bad Sugar. Have any of you read it? I’m not far enough in to determine if I recommend it.

Bessie managed to chew through her leash enough that it broke this morning when I was walking both dogs alone in the dark. Eventually she got the idea that she could walk beside me and we'd get home safely. I had an old leash to use for the after breakfast walk, but at 10 AM we were at Petco buying a new leash.

Looking forward to getting back to normal tomorrow. Exercise. Writing. A run? I love having guests, but, boy, do they take some energy!
I will do some Christmas prep. Hope to make the Chocolate Roulade. I'm going to prep my root veg this year and freeze them. Turning my mind to bread sauce and stuffing. Brandy butter.
Because we are having the family over on Christmas Day I don't want to be spending the whole morning in the kitchen. Want to get most of it prepped. My son is bringing a ham and a stinky cheese.
I'm relieved to have got through these last couple of days without blasting my calories. A holding operation. We stuck to our exercise regime and there was extra walking.

That is what I'm hoping for! And perhaps the ability for increased fitness.
Currently I work to breathe especially when I exercise ... it would be delightful to breathe more easily.

Kim: LOVE the tree skirt. Heck with the tree, I'd like to wear it.
Lisa: 🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽 for the meetings, reports and big grant award.
Pip: Yay for Bootz. Looks like he is one well behaved kitty under that tree.
Big thank you to whoever recommended the book "Atomic Habits" I was able to download the audio version from my library. Just getting into it, but it resonates and reaffirms so much that I already know.
Over the weekend I had a bout of the blues. It was cold, cloudy and the full moon always does a number on me. Today I'm much better. However, there is something funky going on with my left knee. It hurts as though there is something misaligned on the inside of the knee. Will see if my chiro + therapeutic massage will fix it.
Machka: Glad you got answers from your ENT. I'm holding a good thought that a procedure will bring you much relief.
I will be taking my DH in for another ENT opinion this Thursday. Hope to find a way to remove the blockages in each ear canal (aka 'surfers' ear) so he can be fitted for hearing aids.

Took the extremepump class today. The plan for tomorrow is to do a DVD for the bosu.
After exercise stopped at the Salvation Army then Aldi to do some shopping. Home to go to the bowling Christmas party. I was fairly good – only had cheese, fruit, and some of the shrimp orzo salad I brought. Only water to drink. Did buy some sugar cookie mix at Aldi, think I’ll make some for Christmas. That’ll be three different types of cookies. I’ll put the reminder in the freezer and maybe around March take them to ceramics. They’ll never know that they were Christmas cookies.
M – wouldn’t surprise me one bit if when you can start breathing, you’ll lose even more weight. They do say that sleep apnea leads to weight gain (or making it hard to lose). Congrats on your son moving closer to you
Barbara – regarding burning mouth – we were putting up decorations and I came in the house to heat up water for tea. Stupid me took a mouthful because I was thirsty. And it was HOT. I’d forgotten to put some ice cubes in it before I drank it! But the silver lining was that I didn’t want to “sample” things that I was making for Christmas/Christmas Eve.
Had a bit of a crying episode last night thinking about the fact that I won’t get to see PJ for the holidays. But for now I’m over it. At least I’ll see Jess. I remember when PJ was born Vince said to me “the only way we’ll ever see him is if we go up there”. Guess he was right (about this)
Having my breakfast of steel cut oats with Greek yogurt and grapes. Not bad at all
KJ – when we first moved to this neighborhood, not one person decorated. Now, a fair amount of people do. It’s just interesting.
Kim – awesome tree skirt
(((((HUGS for Karen VA)))) Do you think the grandkids will become foster failures?
Carol – Hi, where in PA are you?
Barbie – it’s a good thing you had an extra leash!

Hi Gals,
Another busy day, but really plowing forward on getting things done. I think I might be done with client embroidery before the weekend. That would be outstanding! It looks like I might be hosting a Christmas Eve supper, my families tradition when I was small was a basic green salad, sourdough bread and cracked crab, simple -no cooking and few dishes. Then we would have vanilla ice cream and Christmas cookies for dessert. The cookies are all made for gifts, so this was the first time you were allowed to touch the cookies that made it a huge treat. A gal friend will be alone on Christmas Eve and thought it would be fun if “we” hosted, she’ll pay for ½ the expenses, it will be at my house and she’ll invite her friends – which seems strange, but she is my only single girl friend (our age range) and this is to be a singles Christmas eve, and I know no one to invite. So while my first reaction was not good, I’m over that and am embracing the idea.
Not holding my breath on this however as I know it could all not work out at all.
Everyone thanks for the nice comments on the tree skirt, I appreciate it.

"Todo"s and "done"sDid: transplanted lettuces, mustards and a tiny brussels sprout plant, (man was it cold and damp!) ground the almonds, updated firehall harassment policy with input from expert, emailed to board president, called cousin and chatted. Tomorrow will wrap goodies for a friend, meet another friend for coffee, pick up packages from post office, return dvd to library, finish the tree, prep veggies, walk/comb Tumble, make crescent and gluten free batters.Luci you are so kind, but alas, I've learned that just because I love doing something, doesn't mean I'm any good at it... take singing for instance A big difference between having taught your leg muscles to move a certain way to certain music and having a real sense of rhythm and style. BTW it's Barbie who teaches line dancing. Confusing, I know, to have two line dancing Barbaras, but there it is.
Karen in VA grr for a system requiring such setback for your grandson. ((Hugs)) to both gs and gd fostering those kittens.
Lanette had to laugh at myself, put a few seeds in potting mix last month? Stuck 'em in the little plastic greenhouse where they sprouted, but just barely. It's so cold, they grew so slowly, most still have their seed leaves and only one or two true leaves. But I saw a friend who had “volunteer” lettuces that reseeded themselves from earlier crops and I got jealous, so I pushed mine into the giant pots in the sheltered sunniest corner of the yard. Hers are much farther along than mine were. Yes “were.” Shadow Puppy got interested and when my back was turned, investigated the transplants. Oh well.
Welcome Pac!
Heather ditto your “Go tigers” Beth, Karen, Annie, Amber and Kay! Grr!
Rori Thanks! Will try those muffins to curb my after meal cookie overindulgence. The spiced pecan recipe is incredibly easy, takes way longer to read than to do.Got from this link, https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/3-ingredient-sweet-potato-casserole-with-maple-pecans but didn't want the pureed casserole so dotted these on top of roasted sweet potato chunks. First dish to empty at the potluckMachka hope that great news about your son and his fiance moving back won't put a damper on your restorative getaway...
Spicy Maple Pecans
Ingredients
¾ tsp kosher salt
1/2 cups pure maple syrup
2 cups pecan halves (about 7 ounces)
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper – this is a little too much, cut back to ¾ tsp
added 1 tsp mace
½ tsp cinnamon,
½ tsp ginger
¼ tsp allspice
1/8 tsp ground cloves
barest pinch cayenne
Preparation
1. Heat 1/2 cup syrup in a large skillet over medium-high. Add pecans, salt, spices and cook, stirring constantly, until syrup has evaporated and pecans are glazed, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a parchment paper (NOT waxed paper) -lined rimmed baking sheet and let cool.
2. If they're too soft and goopy, pre-heat oven to 425. Bake in metal pan until syrup bubbles. Pour off onto parchment paper. When cool, test for crispness and goopiness. Repeat as needed until nuts are crisp, then pour onto wire rack so any remaining goey glaze drips off.
3. Candied pecans can be made 2 days ahead; store in an airtight container at room temperature. If they last that long
Kim how I envy you your N. Calif sourdough.
Well, the cheese dip was not such a great hit at the firehall potluck... too runny. Quite a bit left over, was going to freeze and use for soup base, but now think I'll just whomp up some mac'n'cheese with it. Haven't cooked for Joe in quite awhile, he'd probably welcome it.
Funny how I can get so much more done when I “have” to be somewhere, like BB&B or dog group. Had all day today to accomplish stuff, watched a DVD from the library and napped instead.
Lighter, lovelies!
