It helped me to not set goals about results because I have no control over the results. Instead I set my goals as behaviours that I can accomplish. Some of my goals have been about drinking water, how much I walk or ride my exercise bike, or what foods I eat or don't eat. Nothing is accomplished easily and being critical of yourself doesn't help. You have had big family challenges and still you've made great strides. Be your own cheerleader.

Last night with the kids. While I have thoroughly enjoyed being here with them, I have to admit I am looking forward to getting back home to my regular schedule. My two cats will no doubt give me some grief. Luckily I have a straight through flight from Phoenix to Columbus, so only 3 1/2 hours of so flight time. Should be able to drive home before dark.
Grandson had been coughing all week and cranky off and on. They took him to doctor today-double ear infection. Got medicine started so hopefully he will be better soon. They are leaving for a couple of days in Flagstaff on New Year's day. Luckily toddlers recover quickly.
Hope everyone has a safe New Year's eve. Looking forward to continuing with progress in 2020.

Debby - New Year, new you! Please do not be so hard on yourself. We are all works in progress. Maybe take some time today and review your year. Was there a ton of stress which made it difficult to concentrate on you? Do or did you have underlying health issues? Or, did you try to change too much and by doing so set yourself up for failure.
I have certainly found by setting small, weekly/bi-weekly goals I am more successful. I started very small since I was a total coach potato. My first goal was to measure and record all of my intake. The second week I decided I would walk in place during TV commercials while I was watching TV. Etc......
You can do this! You have the strength inside of you. Hug yourself often, it's OK.

Happy New Year's Eve everyone - Machka you only have 6 more hours until 2020 lol, it's not even 9am here, so I have quite a few hours more than you to wait.
Nothing planned today, I usually stay awake to watch all the celebrations on the TV, I know a lot of people in York congregate around the Minster for the countdown, but it's not for me. Feeling a bit meloncholy - if that's the right word, I've been thinking a lot about relatives who are no longer here. I'm trying to feel positive and get out of this "whats the point of it all" mood that I have got myself into. I have a lot to be thankful for I know that, I have a lovely family and fabulous friends. I'ts probably that I am under the weather and feeling out of sorts with this cold, I'm sure I'll be back on an even keel once I get rid of it and get my energy back.
Amber - how scary for you, and in church too! I was just reading about another incident in a church in Texas, armed worshipers shot and killed a shooter, but not before he killed two people.
Here's to a happy and healthy New Year for all of us.
Going to think about small goals to get me going into the new year. Baby steps Viv baby steps! (There is so much I want to do that I get overwhelmed!)
Love to all
Viv UK7 -
Barbie - I like your idea of setting goals as behaviours, I sometimes think it's my behaviours that let me down, I'm not consistent and I am easily distracted. I am my own worst enemy, but realise no one can do this for me, I need to figure this out on my own.
One thing will be to limit my time reading on the PC and more time doing, I've been up nearly 2 hours already and have done nothing constructive. Time to get my butt into gear.

I went to the ER, which is going to cost me, and they want me to see my doctor for generic follow-up. I don't think they can tell me anything that's worth the money. I had an EKG, and I know I don't have heart problems or diabetes. So I am resisting the follow up visit. I hate doctors especially ones that can only tell me what I already know, that I fainted and need to drink more water.
I've not actually heard of fainting because of dehydration but I have heard of it because of low blood sugar. I would want a full blood test if it were me, but it is up to you.3 -

I don't give myself a deadline. A deadline is disheartening.
Instead I tell myself I'll stick to my calorie deficit for 5 weeks ... and see where I am in 5 weeks. If I haven't lost anything, at least I haven't gained. If I have lost 5 kg (like I did the first time I tried this), then great!
But there's no failure. I have never failed at anything. I don't believe any of us fail.
Machka in Oz5 -
Fainting can be caused by blood pressure issues too. I fainted once because I got up too fast after lying down for too long Headaches can be caused by dehydration. They also can be caused by high blood pressure. I assume your blood pressure was taken too.
M your right blood sugar could be a cause too.1 -
Happy New Year, Machka, as you're the first of us! Barely an hour and a half for you now, as I post this.
Then in order, Happy New Year to Julie in Paris, then Heather, Viv and Irish Terri, and to all my North America sistren...
I'll be long asleep by midnight... I'm OK with that.
Debbie in VA, if I were to name my "failures" of this past year, you'd be reading down the page a foot and a half. To me, you are your "best self," because you have the courage to continue. After all, as Winston Churchill said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
My work has taught me, too, that it's all fleeting, there's always the next thing, and that no one wins every time. If someone says they win every single, solitary time they try, I start edging away from them, as lightning strikes are lethal, and can affect others near you.
Looking forward to a day on my own, just me and my cat - who is looking at a catnip toy like it's her long-lost child. I always feel like a drug dealer when I give my cat anything with catnip in it.

"Todo"s and "done"sdone: 32 mins vac/tidy DR, finish/print minutes/Harassment info to VP, phone calls (electrician for invoice, SDAO), posted minutes and next meeting sign, recycling mountain, Freddie’s, Grocery Outlet, called Pat and listened-mostly. Bonus, Joe took us to the beach again
to do: invest 10 mins cleaning MBR, dust LR, bonus 10 mins filing, prep veggies, roast prime rib, b sprouts, potatoes, phone calls (vet re flea/ heartworm rxes & dog group flyers, call Carolyn), laundry (whites, colds), get up and move after eating, again.
Tracey we’ve missed you too! Sorry especially to hear about your hip and back pain. Wakeup calls and can’t believing how many calories are in food are bound to be upsetting to your DH, part of the journey back to health. Better now than never.
Oh Heather and Viv, how exhausting that level of fear must be. Does anything help? Breathing, meditation, medication?
Karen in VA enjoyed the image of your GS cluing your DS in to “Monty”
Lisa safe travels. At least if you see the baby in the hospital, you can be sure its the baby in that blanket and not something else wiggly…
KJ I too enjoy long drives, but a word of caution. My last 11 hr drive resulted in a lot of blood clots in one leg that hospitalized me and put me on Xarelto for six months. Could have prevented had I stopped at least every 2 hrs and walked briskly for 10 mins. No one wants DVTs, just sayin’…
LuciB “...hard for me to explain...” ain’t communication grand? What works best with my DH is no more than 3 bullet points, then let him mull. If it were budget stuff, I’d make a sheet showing only the Total incoming (in green), the Total outgoing (in red) and the difference in whichever color. Then if he questioned either total, hand him a list, but don’t tell him… Sometimes Joe simply can not hear me. Even when I pare it down. Have to pass the word through my brother-in-law. Whaever works.
Michele trigger finger surgery “this time”?
Annie do you have a primary care Dr. or PA? Hoping the headaches and fainting are just dehydration, but please follow up. Important!
Oh Amber, how horrible. Keep you and yours safe.
Allie Brava! Got a passport?
Debbie in VA you’ve had a lot on your plate this year. Couragia! Being your best “you” is something you can be every moment of every day, and has little to do with any number on a scale.
Yvonne, WOW that is some light display, good thing it’s the electric company’s…
Tina hope the neck pain eases soon. If not, would you consider chiropractic?
Katla specialist?
Machka quick scan of the 20’s fashion list, saw neither rouged knees nor rolled hose… Hubba Hubba love the “look”
Meg delighted you’re getting so much out of kickboxing and 9round. Great antidote to the sadness/stress of cleaning out your freind’s house.
Viv ((hugs)) missing loved ones while suffering a cold are bound to lead to bleak thoughts. Hope your gratitudes bring a little light.
Ginny in OH safe travels!
Barbie thanks for the behavior reminder, just what I needed to hear.
Lisa “there’s always the next thing.” Yup. So I’m trying to let worrying about the next thing go… and fully be where/when/who I am now. Not easy for me.
Thinking about word for the year and adding things to my 20 for 20 list (borrowing some from Tina). Inclining towards “Pay Attention”. Maybe I’d like my house/yard/body/self more if I’d pay more attention to them … ;}
Lighter, lovelies!

Good morning Ladies -
Hubs and I don't have any big plans for the day. We will go for a drive this morning and probably have lunch somewhere. It is supposed to rain tomorrow so we won't want to get the "play" car out then. I know this will shock most of you, but we are going to our neighbors tonight for NYE shenanigans. I really love this neighborhood we moved into almost 7 years ago. The group will be small this year, which is just fine.
Hubs goes back to work on Thursday. The jewelry that I had made in NYC will arrive on Thursday so I have to stay home to sign for the delivery when it gets here. I had some errands I was going to do, but I think I'll log in to work and get payroll done and some stuff caught up so I won't be so far behind when I officially go back next week. The errands will wait until Friday.....or next week
Happy New Year Ladies! Make it your best one yet.

Good news for a change - I know we're all tired of the rest. I gathered these from a few places for us (mostly the Washington Post and the New York Times:
Worldwide:
In 1981, 42% of the world lived in extreme poverty (less than $2 a day). In 2019 - 10% did.
In 1950, more than one-quarter of ALL children died in childhood. That number is now at 4% and falling every year.
Every day, another 325,000 people get their first access to electricity, and twice that go online for the first time. Most important, 200,000 people get piped, clean water for the first time EVERY SINGLE DAY.
That's just a few - if you want a lift for your day, read this: https://futurecrun.ch/99-good-news-2019
There are so many good things going on out there, and we get so mired in the bad news sometimes we can't see out. It's honestly the best time in recorded history to have been alive, to be our age, to be doing what we do.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR8
