69 years old female...5'5" ...I used to be 5'7" but arthritis hit and I lost two inches, so now that two inches is squished around my waist like the billows of a big accordion... ...Oh, well. I'll just keep working on it.
We used to walk 5 miles a day. A pinched nerve and back surgery side-lined me for about a year. Then I had back surgery. Now I'm waiting to get my hip fixed. Hip Doc said surgery in April. Ugh! I can't do any walking or biking...both kill me. I see my personal trainer three times a week. She is taking it very slow and easy with me.

My 61st Round!
Time to start counting calories again. I've finished over maintenance the last 3 rounds and it's time to get serious. I've read that 80% to 95% of people who have lost a significant amount of weight will regain it within 2 to 3 years. I've been part of that statistic in the past, but this time I'll be one of the 5% to 20%. I've managed to mostly maintain over the past year and I plan to continue into the New Year.End R40: 171 (-3)

12/29—170.8 All holiday sweets are cleared from the house. I think I’ll begin the No Junk Food Challenge today for a week. After all the cookies, cakes, etc available 24/7 over the holidays, not only do I need to do this, but it may help with breaking that sugar addiction which will be difficult again. Hopefully, I’ll be able to stick with it most days at least. One day at a time! I’ve also committed to doing an informal "365-mile Challenge" (not counting step miles) and recruited two long-time friends to share a spreadsheet to track our progress, so this should be fun, too. I did it two years ago (finished by June) and it was not only fun, but really helped keep me motivated to get outside every day weather allowed and get in a walk, bike ride, or hike.

Back to life! Back to reality!
Last year, my goal was to get down below 160, to allow me to enjoy the indulgences of holidays and celebrations.
This year, I exceeded that and have been below 150 for most of the last 2 months.
Last year, I put on 10 lbs over the last 2 months of the year.
This year, I have consistently lost weight since the end of July. I have put on about 4lbs over the Christmas break, but am still below my original 2019 goal.
That's a WIN in my book! And I still have 4 days to drop some of that overage before the year ends.
I have already hit my 2019 goal. The trick now is to stay there as I travel through the minefield of December. 😂
I need this more than ever now that I am in maintenance! I might even manage to lose a bit more ever so slowly.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Every round I've noticed I go down and the last day I go up in time for the next round!
Goal: to start a new low at the same or less that I end the previous one.
I'm leaving town for two weeks for international travel so weighing is not consistent especially with skipping days in the middle.
My goal this and next round are non-scale. To avoid chocolate. That will cut down on many of the sweets. I really don't like it that much. Why do I eat it? And to be aware of what my body is saying of when to stop eating.
UGW 131, or is it? Am I fixated on a random number rather than ongoing habits and health?5 -

12/29 - 154.3 - The scale behaved better this morning. It actually shifted numbers when I moved so I believe this weight. Not bad for having an early dinner out with friends and a few drinks. I did wake up extremely thirsty so I drank almost a full bottle of water before I even got out of bed so I'm sure this is a bit higher than it would be had I not done that. Honestly forgot about weighing until I finally got out of bed and went into the bathroom. Quite happy to see 154.x again despite the water chugging.

Do you take measurements? I’m terrible at that myself but if you are losing FAT and gaining MUSCLE your weight may not change but your body composition will. A pound is a pound but muscle takes up less space! - Jpv, 11/22/19

NEVER GIVE UP! You can surprise yourself! I have.
What we need to succeed is a sustainable way of eating, not a DIET we go on and off.
This is NOT A DIET. It’s a LIFESTYLE.

12/29 122.5 No explanation for this bump unless it was the small bit of baked white potato at lunch yesterday or the little bit of dark chocolate (no sugar) from the night before. May not have had enough water. Low calorie, great macro day so not worried. Woke up at 3:30-the cat was crowding me off the bed.8 -

Hello, everyone! This is my first round in the challenge. I'm Keith and I live just outside Philadelphia in Boothwyn, PA..
My ultimate goal is to get to 185 lbs. To be clear, this is not something that will happen quickly. I have seen people drop huge amounts of weight and their skin sags off of them. I don't want that to happen to me. So... after some serious research and lots of opinions/information/YouTube videos, my plan is to lose between 1 and 1.5 lbs. per week.
First, I will GRADUALLY change my diet and cut out the bad foods. I have already eliminated soda and added sugar. I now use stevia as a sugar substitute.
Second, I joined both DietBet and WalkBet. For the first 3 months of DietBet, I did nothing. Now I take walks in the morning for about 1 to 1.5 hours. My Mom even comes out for the first block (she's 82 y.o.). So we support each other.
I will next be starting DDPYoga since I cannot find a decent plan from Beachbody that a very large person can do without hurting themselves.
Losing at this rate should take between 140 and 200 weeks. Yes, about 3 to 4 years. It took me a long time to get here and, although faster than gaining the weight, a LONG time to lose it.
Starting Weight: 402.8
Current weight: 388.6
Ultimate Goal: 185 lbs., but realistically 10-12% bodyfat.
10-day Goal: 386.5
Day/Weight/Comment
12/29 - 388.6 - Walked around a local mall 1.2 miles, will take another walk after dinner.

@fmfdfa2020 - putting off everything till I lost weight? I was guilty of that all my life until I did actually lose it a few years ago; when I look back why did I do that ? I know why, I always wanted to blend into the background so no-one would notice me and how fat & uncomfortable I felt with myself. Now I know how much I missed out, life is for living what ever, we only get one chance and it's not a rehearsal, so yes, you go ahead, live it and enjoy it, you deserve it and you will still get to the weight you feel happy with if you persevere and have patience. You will get lots of support in this group it is amazing!!!7
