Ok. My childhood was *kitten* too. Alcoholic Mother took up with a pedophile, he liked my little brother. How was i the only one that saw that? Or was it ok with her? Anyway, HUGS girl, thats brutal. The past sucks, here's to the future. [/quote]
@Elise4270 YES! HERE IS TO THE FUTURE!3 -
OH MY GOODNESS LOOK WHAT HAPPENED
Yesterday I was taking out the trash and my dog followed me out and was going CRAZY at the neighbors. I felt awful and went to call her off right as my neighbor was helping this GIANT, FLUFFY dog out of her SUV. She works at a pet hospital and said he was running on the road near there and walked in and went right to the treat section. She posted ads all over the internet but nobody has come for him yet. She said she has three dogs and two cats already and I said, let me go get my daughter - she LOVES animals and she's been very anxious. At this point, the neighbor suggested the giant beast fluff stay at my house for the night. I said "Sure! Anything to burst Madison's autistic/anxiety bubble and bring her back down to earth!"
Needless to say: It worked!
Now, STILL no one has put an ad up anywhere for their missing dog. Animal shelters have no new information. Nobody seems to be looking for him....... and he is SO mild mannered and polite and he will shake hands for a treat. And he smiles ALL THE TIME. And his eyes are golden. He's beautiful and perfect in every way. AND HE'S A MALAMUTE!
Here is what I was not expecting to see when I got out of the shower last night - I forgot he was there and when I got out, he scared me to death
As of right now, the plan is to keep him. He's great and both my kids, Madison especially, are IN LOVE. Also he would make a fantastic running partner for long runs and my smaller fur baby can keep going with me on short runs. If anyone should ever come for him, I will of course surrender him back to his family, but in the meantime, I am elated to have the opportunity to care for him!

I feel humbled to be on this journey with you @LoveyChar and with @Camaramandy648 there are 3 of us marathon novices going for this together. Mine is April 19th. I couldn't run across the road when I started in July 2019. I completed C2K in October, ran my first 10k the same month and my first half marathon in the November and all at pretty much the same pace of 10:30-11:00 per mile. I am not special, I am determined.
From my journey so far the advice given is so right. When I started I was running at 12 minutes a mile, yesterday averaged 9:47 per mile for 10k. Admittedly today my thighs are telling me that was a little quick so extra stretches needed. I NEVER push myself for pace, never sprint finish, just do the miles and let my body go at whatever pace it says it can do.
I had one injury as I was an idiot and didn't do any warm up or stretches as I was short on time. Well that 15 minutes cost me 3 weeks out in December with shin splints and now I am well behind my training plan. I am doing RED January with some people at work. I am not totally convinced on skipping rest days but I am alternating shorter runs between mid and long runs where the rest days should be.
Really pleased to be sharing this journey with you
@TheMrWobbly and @LoveyChar I feel very fortunate to know you and be on this journey with both of you. We got this!
@Avidkeo your question is completely valid - My answer, while the details differ, is similar to @LoveyChar. But the question isn't really, "why are you doing this with only four months of training?" I'm not new to running. I started running in 2014 after a childhood filled with trauma that led to an adulthood filled with trauma. Loads of abuse, serious drug addiction, pulling myself out of the pit completely alone (before I realized I had a Creator that was deeply involved in every moment), being told I'll "never be..." that I "can't...." etc etc etc etc. My ex husband tried to drown me in a toilet. My very first childhood memory - I must have been two? - is of our house burning down and my mom, covered in blood and crying, telling me it would be okay. Her then-husband set the house on fire.
Those are only TWO examples of the various abuses and traumas. I am 34. I started recovering in 2012....
My point is that this marathon will pale in comparison to other things I have endured. You could give me a hundred mile race and it would pale in comparison to other kinds of pain and suffering I have endured and overcome.
To your point though - I began in 2014 and ran several races and was very consistent until my mother's death in 2016. I moved here and never really quit completely - I ran a half marathon in 2017, warrior dash, springfest 5K, the Color Run - lots of races since I've been here. I just haven't been consistently running. I've been working the marathon training since October though, so by the time race day hits, I'll have been training for this one purpose for six months.
I have never been so focused on running or fitness or nutrition in my life, and I have been loving it. Also the community on this forum is absolutely AMAZING!
You all are fantastic and I so so so LOVE learning from each of you. Thank you for your wisdom!
Ah apologies, I had missed earlier posts when you said you had started in October, I am sorry for that. I think with the grit and determination you have, you will ace it. I agree this is an amazing place. I often talk to my family of my online running group. Enjoy the journey!6 -

Morning all.
Just a short run today, to warm up before strength training. I'm trying yet another set of contacts. I just can't seem to get the prescription right for my right eye but I think im as close as. I'm going to get now. It's slightly annoying but not enough to give up completely. So I definitely won't be using them for everyday wear but to have some for weekends, long runs etc will be fantastic.

Take the puppy to a vet. Many Many dogs these days have chips in their shoulders with ID on them. A vet can scan the puppy and see if it is registered.
Also, have a vet look at the puppy to determine any health issues you will need to deal with if you keep the furball2 -
@Avidkeo Thank you!!!! I hope so!
@PastorVincent @Tramboman --- the chip hasn't been updated since 2012, but unfortunately, the owner wants him back. My daughter is heartbroken.6 -

Aww that’s too bad. But you can show the owner how happy his pup made her! And she helped a scared lonely pup. Maybe you two can pick her a new friend. She looks so happy. Tell her she did good taking good care of him. I hope if mine ever get lost someone like her find them. I’d let her keep them tho! Haha! Nah they are good dumb dogs.6 -
Hey monthly question?
How are the new goals going? Are you on track? Have you learned anything? Have you stuck to the new you goals? What amazing foods have you had this year? Best homemade dish you rock (and can I have the recipe)?3 -

Excellent question!
I am doing great! I've been really good at sticking to my calorie goals the last 3 weeks, and am doing great with my running goals.
Makes for a change for me! 2 weeks sticking to something used to be my best before coming here. I love the encouragement to keep going.
You guys are like chocolate, I just can't quit you!7 -

Monthly Questions
How are the new goals going? Umm...ok, I guess? Decided on a plan, just need to get to it.
Are you on track? Umm....kinda? Last week, I majorly hurt my right knee, while that is feeling a bit better, now I have a cold trying to take hold, 1st one in a bout 2 years? And now it seems to be settling in the chest. Great.
Have you learned anything? Not to over goal myself, and start actually listening to my body
Have you stuck to the new you goals? Not really active wise, but I HAVE given myself rest as I have needed it.
What amazing foods have you had this year? Due to the fact I really haven't gone anywhere or done anything out of the normal, I guess the tofu scramble I made New Years Day. I didn't drain all the water out before I added the tofu to the pan & added Trader Joe's Vegan mozz style shreds. Yum!
Best homemade dish you rock (and can I have the recipe)? Personally I don't think I rock any, but have been told that I cook well, which is surprising as those are the meat dishes, and I'm a veg head! (soI don't eat, not can I taste test them) Tonight I'm going to try 1 I adapted from Cheap Lazy Vegan, instead of the rice cooker, I'm going to try the Instant Pot. If you want the recipe, I can certainly give it to you!3 -

Images- The 9th actually. There is talk of redoing the osteotomy. MRI showed only a 6 degree change in femoral version. I was told by a nurse that it was from 37 to 15 degrees. So we're at 31degrees. I'm anxious for the visit. I've done too much research and wonder if I have miserable malalignment and the tibia need de -rotated. Ohhh external fixator! 😱. The acetabular measurements look fine to my lay eye. Anyway, long way of saying I'll update Thursday/Friday.
How the leg feels? Meh. The knee and ankle are bothersome. Hip burns, still hard to put sock/shoe on. And leg muscles lack strength and stab in fits.
But other than that, I'm good. Nursing school starts next week, I got all my stuff. Least the brain still works.
Thanks for asking. It's been a little lonely not running with y'all.10 -

Yes. I want the recipe as long as it doesn't have soy or nuts (allergy). I like veggies. Just to lazy to plan veggie meals.1 -

How are the new goals? Goals are moving. I was active every day last week, and am on track to be active everyday this week as well. I am traveling on Wednesday and Thursday, so that will be a challenge to get in some running and walking time, but we will see how it goes.
Are you on track? Yes! So are I am doing good for my 31 day active streak.
Have you learned anything? Not yet.
Have you stuck to the new goals? Yup! Been logging successfully and making good food choices. I have been maintaining my active days.
What amazing food have you had this year? Flatout Flatbread. Not the cheapest option out there...but I got a coupon for them yesterday when I bought a pack so my next pack will be $1 less!
Best homemade dish you rock? This one is hard...I have so many. Like really, I do...just ask me for a recipe with an ingredient and I can give you a great one. A really good one that I made just the other day was a Spice Rubbed Pork tenderloin, here is a link to the recipe: https://myrecipes.com/recipe/spice-rubbed-pork-tenderloin
As far as my running and walking goes! I got in 3 miles this morning on Mud Island in downtown Memphis. I was a little sad though, all the Christmas lights are for the most part off. I so love running this part of down during Christmas.
Jan 1: 2.47
Jan 2: 3.28
Jan 3: 1.83 (walk)
Jan 4: 4.42
Jan 5: 1.83 (walk)
Jan 6: 3.07
Total miles for 2020: 16.9 miles

I would love to join!!
Before 2018 I was a 5 times/40 miles a week runner, very fit and at a healthy weight. Over the last 2 years my running has been sporadic and I have gained 27kg in weight which hasn't made running fun . I'm slowing getting back into it, 2018 I did 350 miles, 2019 I did 750 miles and my goal for 2020 is 1000 miles. I have signed up for 2 half marathons and 2 full marathons so training for these will hopefully motivate me to run.
Goal for January is 75 miles:
3.5/75 done
13 -
I'm in for 40 miles.

First "real training" run of the plan! I mean, this is the second week, but this is the first structured run. The plan was...
1 Mile warm up
4 miles "easy"
4 miles HMP (half marathon pace)
1 mile cool down.
Obviously, when you add all that up you get the ELEVEN miles I ran.
Those of you that been around a while will be familiar with my inability to correctly pick a turn around point mid-run
Well, the warm-up went fine, but then I really struggle to hit a pace as slow as she listed. I think that is because that route I was on was so flat and all the runs I showed her in Strava had 5 to 6 times the elevation. But then I hit the HMP split and I struggled to hit that too, but came within 10 seconds so I think that is pretty good.
Cooldown was fine, save it was twice the distance planed.
Having my Garmin watch know the plan is a HUGE help btw. It lets me know when I am being bad, when I need to change to the next split and all that.
Ah well, 1 done, 99 million more miles to go!17 -
Hey monthly question?
How are the new goals going? Good so far. Diet is on track and runs are going well.
Are you on track? So far yes.
Have you learned anything? Running 4 days a week is fun.
Have you stuck to the new you goals? Yes so far.
What amazing foods have you had this year? Nothing yet.
Best homemade dish you rock (and can I have the recipe)? Turkey Cachatore Burger.
Everyone I have madeit for enjoys it.
1/2 cup each chopped sweet peppers, sweet onion and mushrooms.
1 package ground turkey
1 Tbs tomato paste
1/2 Tbs wostershire sauce
Italian seasoning to taste.
Form into 3 big patties and broil. Top with a slice of provolone cheese and enjoy.
It's 320 calories without the cheese.3 -
Put in a treadmill trek today after work. My knee was killing me after only a few minutes, then same leg under the butt, then my lower back kicked in with a whine. I gave up after 30 minutes.. and discovered I was wearing my old old shoes, and not my kinda newer shoes . DOH! 😆

Wow, there are some amazingly courageous and strong folks out there. Makes me both sad for you and proud of your strength all at the same time 💔.
Ran 5 miles this evening. 1st mile felt like my top half wasn't communicating with my lower half. Just felt out of sync. Started feeling normal after that. Just an easy paced recovery run.

Jan 1 2.5 kms (treadmill)
Jan 2 2.5 kms (treadmill)
Jan 4 2.5 kms (jogged fully instead of walking in between, so yay. And not treadmill)
Jan 5 2.7 kms on the treadmill.
Jan 6 3 kms on the treadmill.
It is really cool to read everyone’s posts, it is super encouraging to read all that as I begin my running life So glad to have found this post11 -

Trying to adjust back to my normal work schedule after the winter break - so I'm back to run groups in the evening instead of during the day. I almost forgot how much I dislike running fast in the dark and cold of winter. But I do always love it when it's done! Tonight's workout was a ladder of 1-2-3-3-2-1 minute intervals with 90 seconds recovery in between. Finished with 4 sprints. We had 25 people show up at group tonight which was a lot of runners in the street, all wearing their lights - it was like a Christmas parade.

Monthly question - I just set my goals! You want me to actually have accomplished any already? I guess I'm doing okay. I've run every day in January so far, and I've done my minimum of 5 pull-ups. I also put my workout time into my work calendar and blocked it off for this week, because the stress is ramping right up. So far I don't think I've had time to learn anything except that I wish I had done more over the break to get ready for the new semester.
I have no fabulous dishes to share. I'm not a bad cook, I just don't have the time and energy to put into it - especially the planning and shopping parts. I made a peanut butter cup pie for a party recently that was a hit. Stupidly easy and unhealthy, but delicious (basically peanut butter, sugar, pudding mix, and cool whip).6 -
Oh, this might have happened...
