I had that same problem this week. Following for recommendations.... Have you tried any of Gypsy Runner's clothing line? I love her capris because of the fit and the pockets. She has some cold gear leggings but I haven't tried them. She is an actual runner. She runs marathons all the time. She and her husband travel the US in an RV, set up booths at race expos with her running gear line, she runs the race, and then they move on to the next city.2 -
i had some nice ones from c9 and reflex902

I just looked to see where the closest parkrun is to me, out of curiosity because I knew we didn't have one, but new ones are starting all over Poland. They started one 5 kilometers from my house, and it looks like they've been doing it there for 6 months! I just signed up and will go check it out tomorrow!
Oh, that be perfect you could run to the race as a warm-up, run the race, and run home.
Exactly! Although tomorrow I'll probably bike there and just do a 1-lap warmup, as I was only planning to run about 5-8k. It's been a long running week.3 -

It's been warmer the past few days, but that means that everything is all melty! I crashed right into a slush puddle right outside my front door and soaked my foot. Not the best start to my run, but fortunately I was only going a couple of miles.
Right now the forecast is for a relatively sunny and snow-free weekend. Hope everyone has good luck with the weather over the next few days.7 -

I'm mapping out my Sunday 20-miler, trying to set myself up for success as much as possible all the while knowing that it will be a learning process. After I've done anything once, it's a confidence booster but before that point hits, it's a big, ugly dread.
Anyway...
@TheMrWobbly Thanks for being a ray of sunshine for me, a continuous source of support. It helps... Also, I hope your back is feeling better...
@kimlight2 Thank you for answering the turtle question...
I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend...

I was just in Asheville and saw this being advertised... Thought would have been great if it were last weekend when I was there! Good luck!
That would have been so cool to have a meet-up! Asheville is about 1 1/2 hour drive for me. I saw that you visited the Biltmore. Such a lovely place. Was all the Christmas decor still up? Another cool thing to do in Asheville during the holidays is to visit the gingerbread house competition at the Grove Park Inn. I've yet to go but it's been on my want-to list for a long time!
That would have been cool! No, the Christmas decor was not up. They apparently take it down a week into the New Year, so missed it by a couple weeks. I really would love to go during the holidays but it never quite happens.
Where do you live? In N.C.?
I live in southwest Virginia and work in Kingsport, Tennessee so I can be in WV, KY, TN or NC within an hour.
How perfect it that?! All those races you can do!1 -
@LoveyChar
This is your first twenty miler? I remember being so nervous before my first! But the feeling afterwards, when you now know you can do it, it feels great! Wishing you the best for Sunday.3 -
@rheddmobile I have a couple of "polar" tights as they call them from Athleta - not the cheapest for sure. I received gift cards so was able to get one each year - The quality is great and have been wearing them for a couple years now and still are the same. Fairly warm too.
2 very easy miles on the treadmill and some upper body work. Tomorrow is long run, and supposed to be 50's! Perfect for it.
Reached monthly goal, so everything else is icing and goes towards my RTY miles
I'll try the 1-4-4-1 @PastorVincent was talking about if I can, or a modified version at least
Happy Weekend!5 -

I have some by Nike that are pretty good. I'm not sure they'd keep you dry in the rain, perhaps water resistant track pants over your current choice? I have some smart wool for a base layer, but again wont help keep dry and you'd get cold.1 -

Lol, that cracked me up. Ok if I’m able, is that better?😂1 -
@LoveyChar good luck with your 20-miler. That is a tough one mentally for sure. I liked (well, like is too strong a word - I tried to make it bearable by) splitting it up into segments of 5 miles, at least mentally if not by actual routes. Those last 5, maybe even split it up in smaller goals and keep checking them off.
@rheddmobile: Cold weather tights - my go-to pair is Saucony Siberius. They are thick and fleece lined. A quick google suggests they are no longer making them unfortunately. I should see if I can track down any more as they are by far the best winter tights I've tried and they do repel water/snow pretty well. I am up for that same kind of cold rainy weather tomorrow so I'll be wearing them for sure.

I left work early and went for a run in the sunny 45 degree weather. My knee and back didn't complain too much and it mas my longest run in almost two weeks so I was really happy with that. It felt extra good to have escaped work after a tough week and take some time to get outdoors and de-stress.7 -
Good evening everyone! Oh, how I have missed all of you! The community, the general support and encouragement, the RUNNING!
It’s been an incredibly difficult week - still dealing with my son’s issues and his birthday was Wednesday too.
Because of his problems and because of his birthday, my Tuesday and Thursday running didn’t happen. I feel like I am so far behind!
Ah well, life happens and we have to maneuver and prioritize. I’m ready for this season to be over!
No great running news or stories except that I AM running sixteen miles tomorrow!8 -
Rainy pants. https://www.runningwarehouse.com/Ultimate_Direction_Womens_Ultra_20_Pant/descpage-ULDW2P.html The video model reminds me of Skip @skippygirlsmom . These seem do-able in the rain and thin. no reviews though.

Hey all.
Just spent 6 hrs in the car driving home after my holiday. Have unpacked and now watching Doctor Who while hubby takes the kids out for a bit!
I managed 6.6k this morning before leaving.

So parkrun was really fun! It was a small group of people, but I expect it will grow, especially when the weather gets nicer. I rode my bike there, and the hills reminded me how out of shape I am for cycling. It was freezing and later started lightly misty-raining, so not the greatest but it's whatever.
The parkrun course itself is an undulating loop that you do 3x, so it is a challenge, but not too bad. I tried to not to treat it like a race, and intentionally started my watch with a slow 1k jog, then just paused it until we started, instead of starting a new workout, so that I wouldn't really know how I was doing on the 5k. As it was, I could definitely count it as a speed/hill workout. I probably won't, though. Also I think the course is a bit short anyway. But the point is to have fun! Mission accomplished!!!
Got my 50k for the week and am on track with the monthly goals
January goal 100 miles (stretch goal 200 km)

None here either. I look from time to time, but nothing. Sounds like people really enjoy them.
We do not have any within our state at all:
Appears there is one in Atlanta now, but that is if for GA.

There are 2 here in TN, but closest to me is actually just over the border in KY. That's still a 2.5 hr. drive, so it is not something I would do most weekends.

Cloudy, low 40s F and no wind today. Started out in a little light rain, but that ended within the first two kilometers. Almost all the snow we had last week has melted. Had a strange ache in my left kneecap early on, but it went away quickly and never returned. Probably fossilization...
Note: If you use Garmin Connect and run today, you will earn the Year of the Rat badge.
Next year when you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?

Does anyone else do long runs without a hydration pack?
I bought mine and loved it but the longer the runs got and the more full the pack got, the less I liked it. I think today I’m going to try just the belt with some gels and see how that goes and if i feel better3 -
@katharmonic Glad the knee is feeling better! Finger and toes crossed that your weekend runs will be pain free.
@polskagirl01 Glad you found a park run nearby. Looking forward to hearing how it went. Was catching up on the thread. Glad you enjoyed the park run!!!polskagirl01 wrote: »Now I'm curious. How do you accidentally start running?
@T1DCarnivoreRunner I didn't know you were in TN. I'm in East Tennessee, but the Knoxville one is still over an hour away. Like you, not something I would want to do every weekend.
@Tramboman I was planning to run today. Thanks for letting me know about the badge.2 -
@janejellyroll Thank you!!!
@Camaramandy648 I ran with the standard military issued camelback that my husband used on all his ruck marches. But it drove me nuts to run with something on my back. So I bought a strap for one of the zillions of water bottles we already have and I use a "fanny pack" with gels in them for a run anything longer than a couple of hours. I drink water before I leave the house and I run on sidewalks alongside gas/stations, usually, and pass my house and I can refill if I need to plus I carry a couple of dollars if I needed to stop for something at the gas station but I haven't needed it yet. I like running as light as earthly possibly. Camelbacks are nice, though, especially if you get far away from home.1 -

Where is @7lenny7 ? I haven't seen any posts from him lately. I hope he is okay.4 -
@katharmonic Thank you so much for the advice!!! I'm not running further than 1.6 miles from my house in case my husband has to peel me off the pavement. It's 1.6 miles in each direction with two hills, one big, up and down. I'm doing that 1.6 × 2 back and forth = 3.2 × 6 laps = 19.2 + 4 laps (.25 miles) at the middle school track smack dab in the middle. I didn't have any major issues on the 18 but I ran 5.1 miles into the boonies on a trail where if I needed medical assistance of any kind or even just my husband, it would have been difficult for anyone to even find me. I will have greater peace of my this trip. Thank you for sharing your experience...I appreciate when people share what worked for them.3

Not any more. I used to, but since getting the Wunjo I have used it on all long runs. It is easier to organize salt tabs, food, and drink AND has a place to store extra hand warmers, gloves, etc. Plus since y clothes are almost completely black, the little bit color in it is helpful for visibility.
I used to only run with belt bags, but during summer runs I need a lot more hydration and often add 2 water bottles to my 1500ml hydration pack.
The bag itself is light and comfortable. The 1500ml of water weighs around 3.5 pounds which is not much for a person of my size. I will lose more than that in sweet during a summer long run. A lot more.
Also, I used to run through a park that had water fountains so I could stop and refill my bottles. That made running with less hydration easier.
Nowadays I try to plan my run so that that I have everything I need for the entire run on me. Especially in races where hydration stations are great games of Russian Roulette for me.4
