@rheddmobile It is! I was running with the Schweddy Belles for a long time and still friends with the majority of them. I also volunteer for Barry's waterstops during their marathon training runs.

@LoveyChar The course we were practicing yesterday takes you across Bartlett road twice before entering the woods. On race day the road is blocked off, but yesterday it wasn’t. However we got lucky and the light changed as we approached, plus there is a fancy crosswalk button which counts down with a beeper and a light up person (Bartlett seems to use these but Memphis doesn’t so they seem fancy to me).

Anyway a guy tried to turn left right into us while we had our crosswalk light, and then noticed there’s a big old Bartlett police car stopped at the light right next to us! So dude stops crossways through the intersection with a flabbergasted look on his face and politely waits for us. It was very satisfying to see him swinging in the breeze like that after starting to run us over!

I feel so bad for you trying to climb a tree, you must have been so scared! Usually dogs don’t frighten me much but my husband and I once had to run from a pair of escaped semi-feral pit bulls which were fighting dogs belonging to a drug dealer. We ran to the nearest door and a lady let us in and we called 911 and waited to them to come and give us an escort out of there! And she gave us a Church tract. So that’s my scariest dog story.

There aren’t leash laws where I grew up in the country, and I don’t know whether Bartlett has them or not. But I have never been gladder in my life to be jumped on by a large muddy dog than I was yesterday. He was very happy and very muddy and he jumped right up and put his paws on my shirt. But at least he showed us where the path was!

Oh yeah, April Flanagan. I know A LOT of the MRTC board members and really good friends with one of MRTC's volunteer coordinators. I live over near Bert Ferguson Park.

On your map you started out okay, but you took a right on the purple trail when you should have stayed on the white trail, and then towards the end you took a wrong turn on the red connector trail. You could go out there and for the most part just practice the white trail one last time. That is about 80% of the race. Just follow the white markings on the trees.

Like I said, come race day you will have the course flagged. Lane will say what side of you to keep the flags on, I think they usually have them on the left side. It is a very windy course and it is easy to get lost. But they should have course monitors and 8K race arrows at each trail shift to make sure you don't make wrong turns...unless you are Chris Rayder...some how that dude seems to get lost even with a bike escort lol.

Well if you’re Chris you can’t just follow the rest of the runners and go where they go!

So is it SchweddyGirl because of the Breakaway Runners?

To be fair, I once was a second from taking a wrong turn on a 5K once. It was at night, though, and I was the lead male (ended up winning male). This was the 2nd half and the actual lead runner was so far ahead that I couldn't see her or the ATV leading the way. I went straight instead of turning left and noticed I was about to pass through a row of cones before quickly changing course to go the correct direction.

I wish ignorant arses weren't so abundant. It's sad that the only thing stopping him from proceeding was the police car. I don't even think those people care until they get caught and that's it, but it's never about who they could have hurt or killed. They're not remorseful; they just wish they wouldn't have been caught. No decency whatsoever, disgusting. Most of the people here, most, are respectful and will wait.

I hate Pitbull/any dog fighters and they can all burn in... as far as I'm concerned. Harsh, but I mean it. I'm glad the dogs didn't hurt you, though. I hope law enforcement/animal control took over that situation and helped those dogs.

@mbaker566 – Happy Belated Birthday! Glad Speed Demon behaved herself in the running store. Lol. Were you afraid the coyotes might attack her or you?

No not at all. they typically give humans a wide berth. i don't run with small dogs. i've pet wild ones in the past when i was young and stupid-they seemed to like it too. i run with a waist leash so i was ready with free hands if need be. speed demon also is a good fighter.
but again typically, coyotes give people lots of space and if we do the same, there isn't an issue. the one dog walker mentioned that they were in mating season and were a little more aggressive than usual but just like people-keep an eye out on our surroundings and will likely be fine

@rheddmobile Memphis and all suburbs have leash laws. I dont see many unleashed dogs around my neighborhood, but I see them all the time in leashed areas of Shelby Farms. I will sometimes take my pup off the leash on the dog park side of the tour de wolf, but is only if there aren't others on the trail. I will sometimes do the same down by the Wolf River trails, but only because he is a great trail dog and never treks off the trail. As soon as we see cyclists or other pedestrians I leash him, and I always pick up after him. Even on the trails.

@T1DCarnivoreRunner This guy Chris is a phenomenal runner. Around here in Memphis he is known as the one to beat. It is just funny, because he has gotten lost on escorted courses with both a bike escort and police escort. And even on courses that were simply a big square.

Anyway, 2 mile run for me today around the neighborhood with my pup. I will post stats later since I am writing this on my mobile.

    LOL, on a big square.

If you didn't know, I also live in west TN. I'm a bit further north (near Missouri's tail), but try to make my way to Memphis every now and again.

@quilteryoyo this is where it gets confusing... I'm a mix and matcher! I've been using Hal Higdon's training plans since I learned that training plans were a thing. I follow the distances on those, just I do them with my intervals rather than straight run them. I did look at Galloway's plans but wasn't convinced and prefer to stick to the devil I know. Speedwork on the current plan is just x miles at race pace, so I just run my run intervals faster! I've found pacing to be an issue but am learning to recognise how hard an effort it takes to hit target paces. It's still a learning process :)

Happy belated birthday! @mbaker566! Does Speed Demon get to approve your dates? 😁

    First, Happy belated birthday!
Second... when we had our puppy he got veto power on anyone that came in our circle. Like, seriously. Trusted him over most people without batting an eye.

    Morning all!

Work was so busy last night and the weather is hot and humid. I think the humidity has been close to 100%. Everything feels damp and sticky guh. Just driving home at 11pm I felt that sheen.

This morning I did a gentle 3.4k to bring me to 143k even. I'm tempted to do 7k tomorrow just to hit 150k for the month! May have to rethink Februarys goal already haha! See how I go tomorrow.

How is the fire situation down there? I have not heard it on the news up here in a long while.

I think I can relate to Chris, save for the other posts saying how fast he is.

Despite it all, I feel confident about my marathon. I know I can complete it, so I am not going to stress my training plan being off. But, I do think I am also burning out on the training as well, since my free time is so limited. After this marathon, I think I am going to take a break from any races and just run as I feel I should (or not).
    Sounds like a good plan.
Thanks @eleanorhawkins . I like Hal Higdon too.
    Me three.

While running today, I tried to adjust my headphones (Treks Aftershoks aren't the best under a buff) and must've pressed something, because they started calling "last number dialed". Not wanting that, and not knowing who I had called last, I went into panic mode, trying to get glove off, phone out of zipper pocket and cancel the call. Fortunately it was just calling my husband, and not my boss or the father of one of my kids' friends. I'm guessing there's a way to stop it from the headphones but I haven't figured that out yet.
ETA: Just tried it, and all I had to do was press the same button again. No need to find the phone.
