2. E2: What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. Create vocabulary lists for each unit that come from the texts used: Animal Farm, Julius Caesar, Wes Moore, I Am Malala. Find a way to incorporate changing words from one part of speech to another. Students need to know how to review multiple sources and synthesize information in order to draw a conclusion. Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Difficulty using possessive nouns in their own writing. Honors: practice subject/object pronouns (my friend and I / my friend and me). Poetry: Revise "Songs are Poetry" handouts.
4. Curriculum Development: Writing mini-unit. Review scholarly research on 5PE. (I think I can have this as an intro to the research unit so that they also get exposure to how quotes are integrated and cited.) Parallel structure; use of emotional language, specific detail. Use "Write About a Pebble" lesson from Atwell. How long should each unit take? Do research on characteristics: curiosity, persistence, resilience, creativity, responsibility, optimism, courage, integrity, authenticity, leadership, self-awareness, humility, compassion - others? Include grammarly check on essays! Review assessments. What is the purpose for each unit? What should the controlling ideas be in a study of world literature? Review world lit options. 10. Volunteering ideas: Theater. Library. Animal shelter. Community Kitchen. Emerge Georgia training.
11. Family: Find cousin photos.
WFTY: Progress. So the half-marathon I want to run is the Disney Princess Half at the Magic Kingdom in February of 2021. The Magic Kingdom opened in Orlando in 1971, which means that 2021 will be the 50th anniversary, and that seemed like something kind of cool to me.6 -

WFTY: DEPTH
Depth Year - UpdatesI definitely have way too much stuff. I need to streamline my existence, resist adding more stuff, and start using what I have already got. I have been working towards doing this for several years with my decluttering. I need to stop the march of consumerism, and putting money into the pockets of other people by buying things I want rather than actually need.Daily Goals
03 Jan: This is going to be way harder than I thought. Need to work out strategies and guidelines for what I can and cannot purchase.- I have a stack of books which I haven't read. I will read one of those book a month, and not buy any more books this year. I will source any other books I want to read at the library.
- 04 Jan: The Illusionists - Rosie Thomas > 5 chapters per week
- 12 Jan: finished chapter 18, so well ahead of goal.
- 13 Jan: finished my 1st book: Will start the 2nd tomorrow

- I have closets full of clothes that no longer fit. I will work my way through them over the next two months, and either alter them to fit, or donate them to charity.
- 07 Jan: One bag already full and ready to go to the charity shop
- I have a lot of Craft supplies. I will optimise what I have before I buy any new supplies. Sticking to this one will be difficult.
- 07 Jan: Depth Year: I have Patchwork Craft this morning. I will pick out one of my ongoing projects and work on it to completion. No new projects until I have finished at least 3 ongoing ones.

Will catch up on everyones doings tonight but a quick check in after another hiatus.
Sunday my mom and stepdad came over to help with the nursery/projects. We got so much done! Sat down for late lunch and my stepdad passed out! My mom is so good under emergency response, she works in healthcare, I called 911 without even asking, DH was scared but good for manpower. Stepdad was back to pretty quickly but EMS responded anyway, and it turned out to be most likely low blood sugar, so super scary but hes okay otherwise!
I did much better with cooking this week. Managed Sunday-Weds home cooked, ate out with family Thursday and tonight my prepped meal trial arrived and that was a life saver for a night i wanted to order out/not cook. I think it will be worth it to have the first few weeks of adjusting to life with baby. I have another meal kit arriving to try on Tuesday, but I have to cook that one. I think between the two and just cutting down on grocery lists/meal planning will be helpful and we can just get snacks/small groceries delivered/pick up service.
I'm super tired, and learning that I need to learn how to rest better, so im practicing that skill too!!
DH has a work training an hour away from home (and home is 40 minutes from the hospital) two weeks before my due date! Im a little anxious about that but my neighbor friend who is a SAHM will bring me to the hospital if anything happens early.
EVERYONE is sick at work. It's a pool and spa store so you think in January they would just take the time off! But no...so I tried to take time off to avoid the germs and was called in because it was "busy" I stayed for 3 hours and it was not busy so i left, very annoying.
Things that have helped me this week food wise;
Larabars
Frozen/prepared meals
Taking extra time to rest
Pepcid!
No dairy before bed
Things to continue improving on;
Use water bottle, drink more water
Less dunkins stops
More protein powder, drink smoothie for breakfast even if not hungry6 -
Daily habit goals: track😁, exercise, 👿journal😁
Friday Plan
1. Up at 5:15, walk—👿Nope. Needed my sleep too much after Wednesday night episode
2. Lay out clothes for Saturday workout 😁
3. Pack 2 salads, “TV dinner”, 2x yogurt and KashiGo for healthy breakfast-lunch-dinner-breakfast-lunch—Nope👿—wasn’t sure what I could eat, definitely wasn’t going to try a salad again!
4. Ready to leave at 0715 (yikes!)😁
5. Track all😁
6. Meal plan for week 🤨—sort of. Realized I’m at the mercy of husband and kids for 1/2 the dinners, so on those days I need to be careful with calories leading up to dinner just in case.
7. Order for Dad birthday 😁
8. Quality time with DH👿—didn’t feel up to hour+ drive to join him at the boat; make it up tomorrow
9. Bed at 10, journal 😁
Feeling headachy but better. Proud that I tracked all even when feeling sick and happy that I didn’t exceed calorie limit especially as I didn’t exercise. Tomorrow is celebrating my dad’s birthday (after 2 heart episodes in the past year just so happy he’s still around). And I have to catch up on some work.
Daily habit goals: track, exercise, journal
Saturday’s Plan:
1. Write 2 Reviews to 95% complete
2. Run app, 2 yoga reps
3. Get dad card
4. Track all
5. Groceries
6. Dinner with fam to celebrate dad
7. Upstairs by 10, journal

I’ve got a busy day ahead, I’m taking someone for a taster session of side-saddle riding, having a ride myself, lunch out, attending a leaving party for a neighbour then having my next door neighbours for an evening meal. I need to get a move on!4 -
Morning! It’s officially February! On my first post here, I had added goals for the year, so to keep myself accountable, I wanted to post a monthly update:
2020 Goals:
• Reach goal weight (140) - As of this morning I’m within a pound of this goal. I know I’ll need to lose more after, but this will be a 40lb loss that I’ve been working for for years!
• Get a physical - Haven’t scheduled yet
• Complete the “You Vs The Year” challenge. (Complete 1020km in 2020) - currently at 129km. Not bad considering I missed all of last week.
• Learn how to maintain weight once ultimate goal is reached. - TBD
JFT Saturday:
- Church music rehearsal
- Daughter to bday party
- Budget
- Food prep
- Stay green
- Get exercise
- Dishes
- Laundry
Hope everyone can stay healthy an avoid all the germs flying around! 😷6 -

Today not really sure what to expect today
Wife headed out for girls weekend. My daughter’s gonna have a sleep over tonight. Feel like I need to give myself a little mental break from diet focus a little... will see.
Goals for Friday:
Log all calories no matter what
No more than 500 calories in red
Hit he grocery store right after work to pick up food for daughter’s sleep over
Make pancAke batter tonight for girls breakfast (otherwise it’s gonna interfere with my workout time Saturday)
P90
No trainer... I’ve ridden 7 days in a row and need to give legs a rest from the bike
No booze
Yesterday recap
Log calories ✅
No more than 500 cal positive ✅✅✅actually had 100 to Spare due to smart choice (and I ate enough that I felt guilty)
Grocery store✅
Premake pancake ✅
P90 ❌😐
No trainer ✅ although is it really a hard goal NOT to exercise?😜🤪
Skip the booze ✅
I’m a little disappointed in not working out but was happy to skip beer and stay under calories.the beer thing has really gotten easier primarily because I am working so hard on other things it needs to be a special occasion for me to think about self destructive activity.
For Saturday
Tour of zwift... little bummed because there is no way I will make my planned ride today will have to do it later in afternoon I guess
Clean car
Stay at least 500 to 700 in green
No booze
Daughter to dance
Balance check book and look at bills
Clean a little
Make a healthy dinner
Hang with daughter
Check vacation options for spring

My weight history:Name: JoanGoals for 2020:
5'11"
69 yrs old
SW Year 2017: 217
SW Year 2018: 195.5
SW Year 2019 : 206
SW Year 2020: 182.6These are the healthy habits I would like to do in 2020:2020 - January Discard 5lb Challenge
1. Lose 15 pounds to get to my ultimate goal of 165, and then learn how to maintain it.
2. To be better with planning my meals each week
3. to get up in the morning, and have a rough idea of what I plan to eat the rest of the day.
4. To stop mindless eating. To learn how to eat to live, not live to eat.
5. To make drinking water a regular habit.. and drink 8+ glasses of water a day
Name: Joan
5'11" - yes, I am very tall!
SW: 185.4 (Jan 3, 2020)
1st GW: 180.4
2nd GW: 178 (to be in the "normal" weight range).
Ultimate GW: 165-175, and learn to maintain.
Current Weight today:Jan 6: 181.2 -- back on track with healthy eating the past 2 days.Feb 1: 178.0
Jan 7: 182.5 - got into Candy Kisses last nite
Jan 13: 181.7 -- getting there, but slowly. Weight went up for a couple days, due to unhealthy eating again.
Jan 17: 181.2 -- just holding this weight!! Want to get back to the 170s!!
Jan 19: 179.6 -- Yah! Back in the 170s. Close to my 1st goal of 178 --- then onto next goal of 175, and maintain.
Jan 20: 180.2 -- but I am not going to worry, since only up .6
Jan 23: 179.8
Jan 29: 179.0 -- but on pins and needles all day waiting for hubbys biopsy results... so I expect this to go up.
So if you guys could please say many prayers. My husbands biopsy came back, and he does have prostate cancer. Out of 12 samples, 7 showed cancer. The scarriest part is that they do a "gleason" score to tell how aggressive it is, and my husbands cancer is considered moderately aggressive.
So on Feb 12 he has to have a bone scan and MRI ... and pray that the cancer has not spread outside the prostate. Then .. we go from there.
We are trying to stay positive, and we know that prostate cancer is typically slow growing. We were shocked to hear that his was faster growing, but with how quickly his PSA numbers jumped, it was not a big surprise.
taking it one day at a time... but love to have any prayers from you guys.
So I have to work harder at taking care of myself. All I wanted to do yesterday was eat, and thankfully all I had in the house was pretzels and apples. So when I go to the grocery store today... have to stay away from the junk food.
JFT, Sat
1. log all food
2. concentrate on mindful, slow eating
3. concentrate on water == trying to make this habit. 8+ water a day
4. laundry
5. no snacking tonite... or if I do, just grab a apple and stop.
6.keep positive thoughts going .. turning it over to God
7. go to the gym

Have been hectic and am therefore way behind but been jumping on to check on @mytime6630 and just seen your news. I’m sorry - absolutely you are in my thoughts and prayers x2

Hugs and prayers 🙏🙏🙏 for you @mytime6630 !2
-
@mytime6630 - You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time. Glad you are focusing on keeping up your self-care.2
-
@vermontrebecca6929 - Thanks for your encouragement and for helping me to see my partial progress through the "half-full" lens. You're right - we really do need to celebrate every victory. Congrats on getting through your first week of consistent logging!
@Faebert - Thanks, I'm feeling a lot better today and my voice is mostly back. I'm fortunate not to have Friday classes, so I was able to rest those vocal cords. I genuinely love my job, but down time in the classroom is an elusive commodity!
@Kuhl50 - Glad you're feeling better. Kudos to you for tracking even when you felt awful. And Happy Birthday to your dad!2 -
@mytime6630 I'm so sorry to read about your husband’s results; thinking of you and your family and sending you very best wishes.2

Scale goalsEnd of 2017: 174.6
End of 2018: 189.2
End of 2019: 196.4
Today: 194.8
Ongoing plans/ideas behind the cut1. Purchases: Look for an "ugly Christmas sweater" and a long-haired doll at thrift stores. Practice French braiding. Go to used bookstore and look for On Writing (Stephen King), Dying for a Paycheck (Robin Hardman), The Prince (tr. Tim Parks, Russell Price, or Robert Adams), The Secret Adversary (Christie).
Need practice with the difference between transitions and overlapping (at end of paragraph - "another issue is Y" vs "there are other issues besides X"). Quit using "in conclusion" and "I believe" and other writing-about-my-writing phrases. Confusion between direct/indirect objects and prepositional phrases. Use the UDHR and the Declaration of Independence to study paraphrasing; use that to front-load Machiavelli and how to deal with challenging texts. Confusion between everyday / every day and similar constructions.
3. E1: Need practice with quoting & paraphrasing sources, identifying claims that would need support, use of last names for reference, and capitalization practice (common/proper nouns, titles).
Schedule assessments for Fall 2019; plan out return times. Write 1 reflection weekly; type one in Classroom by Weds. Copy-paste to discussion board for comments due Friday. PB usernames 6 digits, no 19 or 20s, no birthdates. Homework: Online journal Mon due Tue; Reflection Tue due Wed; C&P journal in class Wed; Comments Thu due Fri. Bonus if you are the first response; further bonus if you respond to comments on your post. Grammar practice Mon & Wed; quiz Fri.
5. Professional Development: Write blog post weekly. Comment on 3 posts each week -Tu Th Sun? Check with PSC. Talk with Z about articles and/or conference proposals. NOTE: ATTENDED PRE FLEX DAY.
6. Medical: Dentist Apr 30 8 AM but check on meetings and RS. Onco Apr ???. PCP Schedule for July. ObG schedule for October. PCP - allergy shots?
7. Theater: 1984 auditions 27-28 6:30.
8. House: Crawl space repairs. After that - siding? Or perhaps bathroom floor.
9. Fun: Open beading on Thursdays. Coloring at library on Tuesday. Put jewelry away. Edney Hack Nights alt Weds. ASL? Spanish/Portuguese practice? Practice piano. ROL Secret Adversary. Buy new bikes and bike rack for car.
10. Volunteering ideas: Theater. Library. Animal shelter. Community Kitchen. Emerge Georgia training.
11. Family: Find cousin photos.
WFTY: Progress. I managed my long run today, but it wiped me out so bad. And I've done NO grading. *sigh*

Hello team,
I forgot to post here last night, or rather I fell asleep watching TV very early and just ended up going to bed. I am sure my body needed it after last week. I took today as a loaf day. It's the first day I've had in two weeks where I wasn't 1. bedridden with the flu or 2. frantically trying to stay afloat at work. Is my house a disaster, yes. Is there a mountain of paperwork I could catch up on, yes. But I feel good about taking today to lay low and give myself time to recoop. I have one week left to my DietBet and I am at my goal weight for it. So now I just have to maintain. My goal will be to stick to my meal plan for the week, and then have a cheat day at the end. I am not sure where I will go from there, I am halfway to my total goal weight, with 25 lbs to go. However, my biggest goal is to develop healthy habits for life, and I have yet to find a balance between strict rules I can follow short term, and really unhealthy habits. Ugh, why is the balance so tough! Is everyone feeling better? Sounds like people were down with illness/food poisoning a lot this week! Hope you are all on the mend!
@clicketykeys that half marathon sounds amazing! I am so excited for you!
@ajb1014 How scary! I'm glad your stepdad is ok!
@mytime6630 I can't imagine hearing that news. You and your family are in my thoughts. I'm glad to hear they have a plan of attack, and hopefully you'll have more information soon about what to expect. Stay strong and keep the faith. *hugs* to you

I know I’m going to struggle to meet most of my goals. I’m out riding for much of today. Lunch will be whatever snacks are offered provided the horse stands still enough for me to eat and I won’t be drinking much because of the inevitable consequences! My father is cooking a Sunday roast and I’m likely to be ravenous by then. I’m having porridge for breakfast to sustain me.4 -
@mytime6630 I'm so sorry to hear your news. I was really hoping it would be more positive. Here's hoping that the Feb 13 news is more positive. I'll be thinking of you both and absolutely will say some prayers for you. Xxx3

WFTY: DEPTH
Depth Year - UpdatesI definitely have way too much stuff. I need to streamline my existence, resist adding more stuff, and start using what I have already got. I have been working towards doing this for several years with my decluttering.
